Thanks >> so much Right to be here. So this this is the fifteenth radio your internal innovation summit that really has been very influential. NPM wears development over the last fifteen or so years About eighteen hundred engineers here. So each year growing Mohr and Mohr interest, excitement cross collaboration with India More talk to us about how this is really worthy of the CEOs. Time to come here. And with this geek fest, >> well, it is, in many ways, just one of these pieces of the VM wear R and D culture is a research and development innovation off site. And it's something, you know, long preceded me. But when I got here, it's like I'm going to keep doing it. Of course we are. You know this is sort of like the party for the top engineers, right? You know, they get to come geek out, share their best ideas, interact with each other. So it's become one of those unique pieces of our of our development culture and ultimately is, I say, bm where well to do two things right, developed great, breakthrough, innovative, disrupt the products and make our customers successful with those products. So everything that we do sort of centers around those two things. And obviously, if the products are great, we don't have that. We know what to do So to us, keeping that culture of innovation and giving our engineers time to really just geek out, see what each others are doing, challenge each other. It's really pretty special. And yeah, it deserves the CEO's time. >> And you've got You just had your sales president's club without top performers. On the sales side, this is the technical version. It hasn't been that organic piece of the VM were culture, engineering, leadership. But you also have acquisitions, just acquired it. Nami. Yes, you've had a few other you cloud health big time moves relationship with a ws azure. The cloud foundation stuff. How is lending it together? Because you have all this organic innovation. I see cloud management, networking, security outside suffer to find data center is playing out. As you you guys had predicted. How does the acquisitions fit into the culture and the radio? >> Well, you know, part of it is when we talked to many of the engineers about the acquisitions, we say, Hey, we do radio. They're like, huh? All right, this is well, it's this opportunity for us to see what everybody is doing interactive that level and good engineers are almost always part of the decision with respect acquisitions. So they just take to it like, you know, fish and water, right? They just jump in, right, start interacting with their peers. And it is such a, you know, open, diverse pool that all of sudden ideas air being a bounced off each other, homogenize challenged and, you know, people seeing how they can connect with people. So tow us. Many of the acquisitions just find us to be so beneficial to how they come into the company. And they quite appreciate it, you know, just getting back from sales club hate sales leaders >> and he was pretty good. I like this, you >> know, for many of those acquisitions. But the engineers, this is even better for you >> guys aren't just buying stuff up. You guys are very specific in your acquisitions. Cloud Health again is a great example. Scene. No air watch going with further back. Why? Bit, Nami, What was so big and important about it, Nami to acquire them? >> Well, you know, we saw a couple of things. One is that, you know, it's a company. They definitely had this ability, this respect. We're poor with the open source community, you know, and being able to cross between open source and enterprise credibility. That's exactly where I am, where seas and wants to be able to position ourselves so they fit exactly into that space. This idea of being able to bring enterprise packages is the cool open source applications space. And we already had a multiple set of marketplace efforts internally where we saw that we needed that ecosystem play for activities so they just snap so perfectly into the middle of that and very much hybrid will take cloud, uh, aspects to it. And as we do for every one of our acquisitions and I personally meet with every CEO before we do the deal Are they going to fit our culture? And you know, there aren't that many of our acquisitions where I have people saying no, no I'll i'll be the executive sponsor for this one. No, no, no, I will, I will. I will be No, no, no, please. I'll do this one. And you know, of course, the fact that it's in Seville, Spain, right? You know, I think I think if you it was just driven by vacation plans. But it's >> all well, of course, Erica Cube alumni. And we have a whole cube alumni thing going on here. There's no emanate work we're doing here just good people of nice. And so >> you're planing the Cube visit to civilly explain. It's >> like love, Teo. Of course, we have international presents. One of the things I always quote from you is Besides, that hybrid cloud reference years ago was a quote. You said I think twenty, twelve or twenty thirteen feet which year it wass seems like yesterday. You said if you're not out on that next wave your driftwood, so I gotta ask you here at radio you got You got all this organic stuff. It's kind of the wave's coming. Is this what wave is? Are you seeing the end? We're riding right now, because business is great. Um, you're pumping on all cylinders. You've kind of gone through your ten years that through the early days of and you got CEO and you know it. Everything's normal life now and you're on a good run. What waiver? You're going to be surfing on the business side of all this stuff behind you. What's what? When is this all fit in? >> Well, you know, one of the things that I think is so critical for us now and particularly with the, you know, the, um, war cloud on eight of us. Go now with the relationships with Azure and IBM. Alibaba are four thousand BC PP partners. So that's, you know, really starting to take off our BM or Cloud Foundation on premise. We have a big customer saying Okay, I get it right. Don't look down the stack. Look up. Rely on you guys to be the infrastructure. Bring that together for the hybrid infrastructure is a service. And to me You know, part of what I'm looking for for this from the conference is putting all those pieces together because our customers don't want to be doing it. They want us to do it, but we have to make it so consumable, so compelling that just sort of like the sphere. Was it our beginning? They just sort of say, the M where your hybrid cloud, That's what I want, right? And be ableto operationalize at a scale. And if we get that really working well for customers, the management, the automation, the security operations of that boy. Now we do have the opportunity to ride the Cuban eighties wife right into me. It really is. We have to straddle those two over the next several years, >> so make you know, super nice party stand, >> that embracing that next major trend, >> which is up on top of the stack program ability. >> Yeah. You know, when the aside describe Coburn at ease and containers, it's like Java was twenty years ago. You know, what was the last major software abstraction that the industry agreed upon? Jonah, It's almost exactly twenty years ago, and it defined middleware abstraction for the last twenty years. Containers Cooper, Netease the next middleware abstraction. And we see Cooper. Nate is becoming the next native a P I that thie VM where infrastructure, STD see will support and will deliver. And we're going to make containers and cue bernetti so seamless with regard to the core bm infrastructure that a customer never needs to decide. >> What impact will this have? I mean, I see you've been involved many ways talked about the Pentium in the Intel side of your career, I'll see and and what that enabled in terms of inflection, point and growth and creation of value. Where do you see this Cooper Netease Abstraction. If this is going to be one of those inflection points as you as you point out, how do you envision the impact to the industry? What's gonna happen? >> We see that Cuban eighties layer impacting down as well as impacting up, and that's why we see it. It's so critical to get it right. You know, it becomes the consumption a p I infrastructure, and we've talked about, you know, infrastructure is code or, you know, a P. I ittle dismiss a displace open stack. As an AP, I becomes the middle, where a pea eye of choice, but also that defines the middle where abstraction of choice. So all of your Web spheres, Web logics, Java communities, they're going to get displaced as well as they are re factored into this automated containerized, the scale out world. That's exactly where we're sitting. And that's another piece of the bit Nami acquisition that we just announce because you know, being ableto package containerized, open source applications packages exactly fits into that strategy as well. And if we do those two things, I think VM where is going to be extraordinarily well positioned for decades to come way past me? >> So let's talk about customers. Here we are at radio twenty, nineteen, fifteen years I mentioned you guys, This is a really competitive event. Engineers want to be here. You probably had well over a thousand projects. Submissions. How do customers one benefit from the innovations that are discussed here at radio, but also how to customers influence some of the projects of the exciting things that engineers want to put together? >> Well, one of the things that we really enjoy about the whole BM where R D community is you know engineers are leaving with customers all the time. We push him out into those places, you know, we selectively bring customers in and have them in Iraq. Tear a radio. We have other mechanisms, like flings, right? Yeah. These open source lightweight things that customers could be giving us code. We could be giving them code. We you regularly, you know, bring them into our campus for, you know, their participation and different advance programs. So it really is a very constant, ongoing and somewhat end and dialogue that we're having weather. That's from an early product concept that we might be seeing for the first time here at Radio Teo Act The part, this patient and beta activities before we roll them out broadly. So it really is having them participate in the end, the end roll of innovation. And sometimes Hey, it sounds like a good idea. And it sort of sucked right when we tried to do it. Other times they're like, Oh, wow, some of these things, really. I've taken off and gain legs while beyond what we would have dreamed of. >> What have you seen that this year's event? Project Wise featured project. Why's that really kind of caught your attention, Like you. That's a really good idea. >> Well, I must admit, I just landed last night, So today is my first day at radios. So I just got back from our sales club, as John mentioned earlier. So I think I'm gonna have to take a buy on that question here because I got to go do my homework here. >> We'LL ask the questions. I have attracted talent, engineering, talent That's also the best of the best elite forces. This is a challenge in the streets of retain talent on engineers. Love to work on a hard problem. I gotta ask you what, Some of the hard problems at the end where is trying to tackle that would attract the elite engineering forces to the company. Because again, you're talking about something really big is going on with software. What are some of the big problems? >> Yeah, well, a couple of them that, you know, I'm pretty focused on for our team, and one is we said, you know, we said it's a software defined data center. Right? Going forward. It's the self driving data center. How do we bring so much telemetry? and automation that we truly are running the data center on customers behalf. And if I, you know, build on the Del Technologies World announcement of'em were cloud on Delhi emcee. You know, we're now managing their on premise data center from our cloud. You know what? If we can put more machine learning a I into the middle of that, it's not just that I wantto do it instead of them. I want to do it dramatically better than they ever could write. Using the greatest algorithms telemetry, learning, etcetera that the infrastructure becomes more reliable, right, it becomes higher performance. It becomes increasingly predicted right of its behavior and adjusting to those things. So the self driving data center's pretty high on the list for us. You know this idea then of a true multi cloud operational plane. We're customers. Just say, Here's there's my working. Would you figure out where to run it here? My policies. Here's the work will take care of it for me today. I was running it on this cloud the afternoon I brought it back on promise, because you it >> sounds easy, >> Cassidy. Right? Wow, If you could do that, its scale But then you say, boy, You know, if I move it around, where does the day to reside? Right, You know, have I met my policies and compliance requirements? So this a multi cloud operational plane is a >> big problem that you're attracting talent Is that distract complexity away and making it easy? >> Yeah, right, R, that's what we do. It's hard. I know. You know some >> of the cool things, you know, the are blockchain All right, you know, also breaking through reside. Describe blockchain. It's like the public private key encryption breakthroughs of forty years ago. But they're still very raw, right? Their performances crappy. You know, they don't scale very well. You have all sorts of issues associated with audit ability and repute, ability of those mechanisms. So those are some of the new problems and then also attacking entirely new new segments like NFI, right? Hey, we're going to build a five g network. That's not reliant on hard work, right? >> Well, when you're out of the quiet here, we're going to come to your office, will go deeper, dive on the business and some of the cool tech stuff, >> and we're just coming up on the M world in a couple of months. I think this will be the cubes tenth time there and any little teasers that you could give us about the world twenty nineteen. >> Well, we certainly hope that, you know, we're able to bring a lot of these club messages together right and have sort of, you know, connected all the dots. Had some twenty nineteen. We're live here on the Cube, were in Boston, Massachusetts, and was soon Merriman. I'm John Wall's. Glad to have you with us for our last day of coverage. We're now joined by the SPP. Adele Technologies. Pete. Myka, Pete. Good to see you this morning. And Pete, by the way, is coming with I'm sure song in this heart of smile on his face two and a half hours to get in today. >> It was a long drive in, but I'm here now. I'm excited to be here. This is a great show. And here with great partners. >> Yeah, the tough part's over, right? >> We're in Boston, not in Vegas, so that you gotta be a little >> bit there some consolation. Let's just first off, let's paint the umbrella here a little bit about the overall partnership between Delhi, um state right and red hat and how that's evolved. And currently, word stands with all the new releases I've heard about this week. >> Yeah, it's been a great partnership for almost two decades now, right? Della and red hat of working together on a lot of different products from ready stack are ready architectures and ready nodes to software sales. Support customer engagements has been a tremendous partnership for twenty years, and I expect to be going for another twenty years. >> All right, that's digging a little bit walking through the stacks, if you Well, so we understand. You know, Red Hat is an operating system, you know, long history working on, you know, all the del platforms. You've got the converge environment. Where where does red hat fit in? What pieces of there ever broadening portfolio fit in? >> Right. So really, on the ready solution side of the world, which is another part of the products I managed for Del. So within the ready solutions environment, we worked with red hat on open stack way. Deliver hardened, supported open stack products to both. Tell Cohen Enterprise Markets on that. We also deliver open shift and already noted ready solution environment so we can deliver that container men's container environment for those same enterprise and serves customers. >> Yeah, so if you know, the Cubans at, you know Del Technologies World last week and at that show in here, I >> saw a sizable >> break out for telecommunications. You know, we could talk a lot about Enterprise, but, you know, telcos got some certain special requirements needed to make sure it's certified for certain things and, you know, gotta be tested out. Maybe we talk a little bit about what those customers are looking for and why that match you red hat makes sense. >> Sure mean Telco really wants to have control over their environment they wantto have. Open source is a great technology for Tell Cole, right, and they love taking the technology customizing for their environment, reselling components to their end users in open stack from Red Hat is a perfect fit for that market. And so again, we deliver that and the hardened solution on top Adele Technologies on Del Partridge servers deliver that to the telco market and provide them the tools and the capabilities they need to deliver the solutions to their customers. >> What what is it? Let's go dive in just a little bit. Then about those specific traits or attributes, you think in terms of the telecom market goes, you know what is specifically about you think there needs that they find so attractive about open source and what makes them stand apart from other industry sectors. Yet to me, it's controlling >> customization. So rather than taking a packaged app that shrink wrapped in running it like everybody else, they want to get a customized control for their markets. They have certain as to mention they have certain standards and compliance you don't have to deal with. They also want to differentiate within that telecom market. So it's hard to do without having control around the underlying stack. I think those are the big attractiveness around. And then, um, you know that the solution from Red Hat combined with Dellis is such a enterprise quality product for the telecom market, which I think has certain advantages. >> Okay, so you mentioned you know, the ready solutions and open stack piece, and then on top of that, there could be open ships. So that's right, a news, you know, talk to you know, many of the customers, the executive team on the team here, open shift for showing good momentum over thousand customers. So how does that fit in with the solutions you're >> offering well, so we offer a ready solution for open shift this wall, right? And we see that as the container solution for the the market that really wants those open source type products and has a line themselves with red hat in Lenox. And so it's a perfect solution for that. And, you know, we really see Oprah shift as the ability to create a managed environment for containers as we saw from Polish Kino with Over shit for now provides a tremendous hybrid cloud experience for customers at one of my great workloads, both on premises to cloud and back. And so we think that's tremendous technology that we'll add value. And with our hardware technology underneath that we could provide a stack that we think services the market quite well. >> Yeah, it's funny, Pete, you know, you've got a lot of history and I've worked with you for many years on this the ultimate A lot of these technologies, you go back to server virtual ization. You look a container ization in Cuba. Netease. They're like, Well, we want to extract upto, allow the applications to be able to be modernized and do these wonderful things. And I shouldn't have to think about the infrastructure. Right. But we know what the end of the day It lives on something, and it needs to be good talk a little bit of things, like Corinne, eh? Tease. And you know where Del thinks they fit from an infrastructure standpoint compared to communities. >> Yeah. What we want to do is provide the infrastructure that makes it easy to four workloads and applications to preside on, including open shifting cabernets environments. Right? And so, really, what you want to do? And for years, as you say, we've got a lot of history in this. We've been trying to push that complexity and management up the stack. So the hardware and even the virtual ization layer and the container layer becoming afterthought, right? And you know, what I saw from open ship for is that really puts the power back into the application developers and makes it easier to manage and control your underlying harder environment. So, with tight integrations into the open ship community with our del technology Zach, we can provide that sort seamless infrastructure layer that allows the application developers to go do what they need to do not be worried about infrastructure management. >> Do you have any customer examples that might help highlight the partnership? >> Um, no, I >> don't have any good. I >> didn't I'm sorry. I didn't >> know the customer. Well, let's hope out for a little bit. And you talk about hybrid and what that's going to enable there, is that the, uh Oh, here we go for you on this in terms of what's new, What's the latest? I mean, what about the capabilities? You're going to get nowt for what's going to be offered and what is that? That's kind of jumping off the page to you. This is Yeah, this was worth the wait. Well, >> to me, it was all about the management in the automation, the underlying infrastructure just again taking that complexity away from the developers and putting it, um, allowing the application developers tools they need to do to very quickly developed applications, but also migrate them to the proper landing spot and maybe cloud one day and maybe on premises the next. You know, one of the beauties of cloud is is there are classes of applications that may not necessarily fit on a public cloud. You may not know that. Do you? Get there and you want to have the flexibility to push them out, see how they work and bring them back in and open Shift gives you all this capability open shit for yeah, >> eso Absolutely what we hear from customers. It it's not. The future is hybrid and multi cloud. It's today, and the future are voting hybrid and multi class today. To that point, I wonder if you could help us. Just It's not Dell specific, but VM wear made an announcement today that they're supporting open shift for on top of'Em. Where can you maybe t explain where that fits into the overall discussion? >> Yeah, So look, Dell's always writing choices, the customers and we want it we want to be. And we are the essential infrastructure company to the enterprise and commercial environments. And so open shift on VM were just another example of choice and customers. They're gonna have different location environments out there. They're going to run some containers. They're going to run. Some of'em are going to run some native way. Want to be the infrastructure provided for that. We want to work with partners like you had a choice to our customers. >> You know, we've heard a lot this week about flexibility, right on a scale and options and all. And I understand providing choice is a great thing, you know, the customers. But what does that do for you in terms of having to answer to all of that desire? The flexibility? Well, it's it's >> opportunity in this challenge, right? Supporting all these different environments, of course, is a challenge for engineering teams. But it's also opportunity if we want to be. And we are the essential, you know, hardware technology, player in the industry. We have to support all these leading platforms and open shifts. Just example of that. The >> challenge on that side of it. I get opportunity, but you have to develop that expertise We do know throughout your force, and that probably has its own challenges. >> It doesn't mean we have to have expertise only and our own technologies like VM wear, but also open shift and other technologies or red hat technologies. We have to higher and cultivate, um, open source engineers, you know, which is not always easy to find on DH. We have to develop those expertise that know how to integrate those components together. Rights, not just a matter of taking the software and laying on top of the next eighty six architecture and saying it's done way, want Toby to integrate that. So we provide the best experience to the customers. So having that capability to understand what's happening at the hardware infrastructure layer also, what's happening at the virtual ization and container layer is a critical piece of knowledge that we have to. We have to grow and continue to work with >> you. But what about, I mean, as far as the competitive nature of the work force, then I kind of thinking about It's almost like ways. The more people who use that, the tougher it is to get around right, Because so the more people who are moving toward open source, the more which is great. But it also the more competitive the hiring becomes, the training becomes that it does bring with it. Certainly I would say barriers by any means, but a different factor. >> It's a challenge across the entire industry right now, hiring good technical people, and it's not just on open source space. It's an all space is open source is a particular challenge because it takes a certain set of skills to work in that environment. Dell has a philosophy where we are continually looking at university hires and growing from within. We try to hire a CZ. Many new hires, new grads as we can, But the reality is we have to look everywhere in order to try to find those. Resource is very hard to come by, and it's very competitive to get these employees are these candidates. Once you find them, it's hard to get him in the head of environment. >> So it it's interesting. Just step back for a second here last week at your show, it was I opening to see such a nadella, you know, up on stage with Pak else, right? While Microsoft Environments have lived on V EMS for a long time, you know, far as I know the first time the two CEOs have been public scene together fast word to here. And once again we saw touching Adela up on stage with, you know, red hat. It's, you know, for years we think about the industry as to the competitive nature and what's going on and Who's fighting who. Multi cloud. It's not like it's everybody's holding hands and singing, you know, Cooper Netease, Kumbaya. But it is a slightly different dynamic today than it might have been >> is very different in the past. When there are maur infrastructure players, Mohr software players, you could pick your swim lanes. You can compete now, the lines are blurred, and cloud definitely has a lot to do with that. Right and hybrid Multi cloud has everything to do with that, because if your applications going run on eight of us one day on premises the next day in azure the next day you better have tools, processes and procedures that allow those applications the migrate across that multi cloud experience. And so what if forces vendors to do is get together and participate in a cooperative in whatever your favorite word is for competitors working together. But that's really what it is, is we've realized you look a Del Technologies UVM. Where is part of our family? But we're working with Red Hat. What, working with Microsoft and Red Hat, as you see, is doing the same thing. Live coverage. Day three wrap up of Del Technologies World twenty nineteen Java is Dave a lot. There's too many men on set one. We get set to over there blue set, White said. We got a lot of content. It's been a cube can, in guise of a canon of content firing into the digital sphere. Great gas. We had all the senior executive players Tech athletes. Adele Technology World. Michael Dell, Tom Sweet, Marius Haas, Howard Ally As we've had Pat Kelsey, rco v M were on the key partner in the family. They're of del technology world and we had the clients guys on who do alien where, as well as the laptops and the power machines. Um, we've had the power edge guys on. We talked about Hollywood. It's been a great run, but Dave, it's been ten years Stew. Remember, the first cube event we ever went to was DMC World in Boston. The chowder there he had and that was it wasn't slogan of of the show turning to the private cloud. Yeah, I think that was this Logan cheering to the private cloud that was twenty ten. >> Well, in twenty ten, it was Cloud Cloud Cloud Cloud Cloud twenty nineteen. It's all cloud now. That difference is back then it was like fake cloud and made up cloud and really was no substance to it. We really started to see stew, especially something that we've been talking about for years, which is substantially mimicking the public cloud on Prem. Now I know there are those who would say No, no, no, no, no. And Jessie. Probably in one of those that's not cloud. So there's still that dichotomy is a cloud. >> Well, Dave, if I could jump in on that one of the things that's really interesting is when Veum, where made that partnership with a ws It was the ripple through this ecosystem. Oh, what's that mean for Del you know Veum, wherein Del not working together Well, they set the model and they started rolling out bm where, and they took the learnings that they had. And they're bringing that data center as a service down to the Dell environment. So it's funny I always we always here, you know, eight of us, They're learning from their partners in there listening and everything like that. Well, you know, Dylan Veum where they've been listening, they've been learning to in this, and it brings into a little bit of equilibrium for me, that partnership and right, David, you said, you know that you could be that cloud washing discussion. And today it's, you know, we're talking about stacks that live in eight of us and Google and Microsoft. And now, in, you know, my hosted or service lighter or, you know, my own data center. If that makes sense, >> I mean, if you want to just simplify the high order bit, Dave Cloud. It's simply this Amazon's trying to be enterprised everyone, the enterprise, trying to claw Amazon, right? And so what? The what that basically means is it's all cloud. It's all a distributed computer system. OK, Scott McNealy had it right. The network is the computer. If you look at what's going on here, the traditional enterprise of vendors over decades of business model and technology, you know, had full stack solutions from mainframe many computers to PC the local area networking all cobble together wires it up creates applications, services. All that is completely being decimated by a new way to roll out storage, computing and networking is the same stuff. It's just being configured differently. Throw on massive computer power with Cloud and Moore's Law and Data and A. I U have a changing of the the architecture. But the end of the day the cloud is operating model of distributed computing. If you look at all the theories and pieces of computer science do and networking, all those paradigms are actually playing out in in the clouds. Everything from a IIE. In the eighties and nineties you got distributed networking and computing, but it's all one big computer. And Michael Dell, who was the master of the computer industry building PCs, looks at this. Probably leg. It's one big computer. You got a processor and subsystems. So you know this is what's interesting. Amazon has done that, and if they try to be like the enterprise, like the old way, they could fall into that trap. So if the enterprise stays in the enterprise, they know they're not going out. So I think it's interesting that I see the enterprise trying to like Amazon Amazon trying to get a price. So at the end of the day, whoever could build that system that's scalable the way I think Dell's doing, it's great. I was only scaleable using data for special. So it's a distributed computer. That's all that's going on in the world right now, and it's changing everything. Open source software is there. All that makes it completely different, and it's a huge opportunity. Whoever can crack the code on this, it's in the trillions and trillions of dollars. Total adjustable market >> well, in twenty ten we said that way, noted the gap. There's still a gap between what Amazon could do and what the on Prem guys Khun Dio, we'd argue, is a five years is seven years, maybe ten years, whatever it is. But at the time we said, if you recall, lookit, they got to close the gap. It's got to be good enough for I t to buy into it like we're starting to see that. But my view, it's still not cloud. It doesn't have to scale a cloud, doesn't have the economics cloud. When you peel the onion, it doesn't certainly doesn't have the SAS model and the consumption model of cloud nowhere close yet. Well, and you know, >> here's the drumbeat of innovation that we see from the public cloud. You know where we hit the shot to show this week, the public have allowed providers how many announcements that they probably had. Sure, there was a mega launch of announcements here, but the public lives just that regular cadence of their, you know, Public Cloud. See a CD. We're not quite there yet in this kind of environment, it's still what Amazon would say is. You put this in an environment and it's kind of frozen. Well, it's thought some, and it's now we can get data set. A service consumption model is something we can go. We're shifting in that model. It's easier to update things, but you know, how do I get access to the new features? But we're seeing that blurring of the line. I could start moving services that hybrid nature of the environment. We've talked a few times. We've been digging into that hybrid cloud taxonomy and some of the services to span because it's not public or private. It's now truly that hybrid and multi environment and customers are going to live in. And all of >> the questions Jonah's is good enough to hold serve >> well. I think the reality is is that you go back to twenty ten, the jury in the private cloud and it's enterprises almost ten years to figure out that it's real. And I think in that time frame Amazon is absolutely leveled. Everybody, we call that the tsunami. Microsoft quickly figures out that they got to get Cloud. They come in there, got a fast followers. Second, Google's trying to retool Oracle. I think Mr Bo completely get Ali Baba and IBM in there, so you got the whole cloud game happening. The problem of the enterprises is that there's no growth in terms of old school enterprise other than re consolidate in position for Cloud. My question to you guys is, Is there going to be true? True growth in the classic enterprise business or, well, all this SAS run on clouds. So, yes, if it's multi cloud or even hybrid for the reasons they talk about, that's not a lot of growth compared to what the cloud can offer. So again, I still haven't seen Dave the visibility in my mind that on premises growth is going to be massive compared to cloud. I mean, I think cloud is where Sassen lives. I think that's where the scale lives we have. How much scale can you do with consolidation? We >> are in a prolonged bull market that that started in twenty ten, and it's kind of hunger. In the tenth year of a of a decade of bull market, the enterprise market is cyclical, and it's, you know, at some point you're going to start to see a slowdown cloud. I mean, it's just a tiny little portion of the market is going to continue to gain share cloud can grow in a downturn. The no >> tell Motel pointed out on this, Michael Dell pointed out on the Cubans, as as those lieutenants, the is the consolidation of it is just that is a retooling to be cloud ready operationally. That's where hybrid comes in. So I think that realization has kicked in. But as enterprises aren't like, they're not like Google and Facebook. They're not really that fast, so So they've got to kind of get their act together on premises. That's why I think In the short term, this consolidation and new revitalisation is happening because they're retooling to be cloud ready. That is absolutely happen. But to say that's the massive growth studio >> now looked. It is. Dave pointed out that the way that there is more than the market growth is by gaining market share Share share are areas where Dell and Emcee didn't have large environment. You know, I spent ten years of DMC. I was a networking. I was mostly storage networking, some land connectivity for replication like srd Evan, like today at this show, I talked a lot of the telco people talk to the service of idle talk where the sd whan deny sirrah some of these pieces, they're really starting to do networking. That's the area where that software defined not s the end, but the only in partnership with cos like Big Switch. They're getting into that market, and they have such small market share their that there's huge up uplift to be able to dig into the giant. >> Okay, couple questions. What percent of Dell's ninety one billion today is multi cloud revenue. Great question. Okay, one percent. I mean, very small. Okay. Very small hero. Okay? And is that multi cloud revenue all incremental growth isat going to cannibalize the existing base? These? Well, these are the fundamentals weighs six local market that I'm talking to >> get into this. You led the defense of conversations. We had Tom Speed on the CFO and he nailed us. He said There's multiple levers to shareholder growth. Pay down the debt check. He's got to do that. You love that conversation. Margin expansion. Get the margins up. Use the client business to cover costs. As you said, increased go to market efficiency and leverage. The supply chain that's like their core >> fetrow of cash. And that all >> these. The one thing he said that was mind blowing to me is that no one gets the valuation of how valuable Del Technologies is. They're throwing off close to seven billion dollars in free cash flow free cash flow. Okay, so you can talk margin expansion all you want. That's great, but there got this huge cash flow coming in. You can't go out of business worth winning if you don't run out of cash >> in the market. When the market is good, these guys are it is good a position is anybody, and I would argue better position than anybody. The question on the table that I'm asking is, how long can it last? And if and when the market turns down and markets always cyclical we like again. We're in the tenth year of a bull market. I mean, it's someone >> unprecedented gel can use the war chest of the free cash flow check on these levers that they're talking about here, they're gonna have the leverage to go in during the downturn and then be the cost optimizer for great for customers. So right now, they're gonna be taking their medicine, creating this one common operating environment, which they have an advantage because they have all the puzzle pieces. You A Packer Enterprises doesn't have the gaping holes in the end to end. They can't address us, >> So that is a really good point that you're making now. So then the next question is okay. If and when the downturn turn comes, who's going to take advantage of it, who's going to come out stronger? >> I think Amazon is going to be continued to dominate, and as long as they don't fall into the enterprise trap of trying to be too enterprising, continue to operate their way for enterprises. I think jazz. He's got that covered. I think DEL Technologies is perfectly positioned toe leverage, the cash flow and the thing to do that. I think Cisco's got a great opportunity, and I think that's something that you know. You don't hear a lot of talk about the M where Cisco war happening. But Cisco has a network. They have a developer ecosystem just starting to get revitalized. That's an opportunity. So >> I got thoughts on Cisco, too. But one of things I want to say about Del being able to come out of that stronger. I keep saying I've said this a number of times and asked a lot of questions this week is the PC business is vital for Del. It's almost half the company's revenue. Maybe not quite, but it it's where the company started it. It sucks up a lot of corporate overhead. >> If Hewlett Packard did not spin out HP HP, they would be in the game. I think spinning that out was a huge mistake. I wrote about a publicly took a lot of heat for it, but you know I try to go along with the HPD focus. Del has proven bigger is better. HP has proven that smaller is not as leverage. And if it had the PC that bee have the mojo in gaming had the mojo in the edge, and Dale's got all the leverage to cross pollinate the front end and edge into the back and common cloud operate environment that is going to be an advantage. And that's going to something that will see Well, let me let me >> let me counter what you just said. I agree. You know this this minute. But the autonomy was the big mistake. Once hp autonomy, you know what Meg did was almost a fatal complete. They never should've bought autonomy >> makers. Levi Protector he was. So he was there. >> But she inherited that bag of rocks. And then what you gonna do with it? Okay, so that's why they had to spend out and did create shareholder value. If they had not purchased autonomy, then he would return much better shape, not to split it up. And they would be a much stronger competitor. >> And I share holder Pop. They had a pop on value. People made some cash with long game. I think that >> going toe peon base actually done pretty well for a first year holding a standalone PC company. So, but again, I think Del. With that leverage, assuming pieces, it's going to be really interesting. I don't know much about that market. You were loving that PC conversation, but the whole, you know, the new game or markets and and the new wayto work throwing an edge in there, I don't know is ej PC and edges that >> so the peanut butter. And so the big thing that Michael get the big thing, Michael Dell said on the Cube was We're not a conglomerate were an integrated company. And when you have an integrated company like this, with the tech the tech landscape shifting to their advantage, you have the ability to cross subsidize. So strategy game. Matt Baker was here we'd be talking about OK, I can cross subsidize margin. You've brought it up on the client side. Smaller margins, but it pays a lot of the corporate overhead. Absolutely. Then you got higher margin GMC business was, you know, those margins that's contributing. And so when you have this new configuration. You can cross, subsidize and move and shift, so I think that's a great advantage. I think that's undervalued in the market place. And I think, you know, I think Del stock price is, well, undervalue. Point out the numbers they got VM wear and their question is, What what point is? VM where blink and go All in on del technology stew. Orcas Remember that Gus was gonna partner. You don't think the phone was ringing off the hook in Palo Alto from their parties? What? What's this as your deal? So Vienna. There's gotta be the neutral party. Big problem. The opportunity. >> Well, look, if I'm a traditional historical partner of'Em are, it's not the Azure announcement that has me a little bit concerned because all of them partner with Microsoft to it is how tightly combined. Del and Veum, where are the emcee, always kept them in arms like now they're in the same. It's like Dave. They're blending it. It's like, you know Del, from a market cap standpoint, gets fifty cents on the dollar. VM wears a software company, and they get their multiples. Del is not a software company, but VM where well, people are. Well, if we can win that a little bit, maybe we could get that. >> Marty still Isn't it splendid? No, no, I think the strategy is absolutely right on. You have to go hard with VM wear and use it as a competitive weapon. But, Stuart, your point fifty cents and all, it's actually much worse than that. I mean the numbers. If you take out of'Em, wears the VM wear ownership, you take out the core debt and you look at the market value you're left with, like a billion dollars. Cordell is undervalued. Cordell is worth more than a billion or two billion dollars. Okay, so it's a really cheap way to buy Veum. Where Right that the Tom Sweet nailed this, he said. You know, basically, these company those the streets not used to tech companies having such big debt. But to your point, John, they're throwing off cash. So this company is undervalued, in my view. Now there's some risks associated with that, and that's why the investors of penalizing them for that debt there, penalizing him from Michael's ownership structure. You know, that's what this is, but >> a lack of understanding in my opinion. I think I think you're right. I just think they don't understand. Look at Dale and they think G You don't look a day Ellen Think distributed computing system with software, fill in those gaps and all that extra ten expansion. It's legit. I think they could go after new market opportunities as as a twos to us as the client business. I mean mere trade ins and just that's massive trillions of dollars. It's, I think I think that is huge. But I'm >> a bull. I'm a bull on the value of the company. I know >> guys most important developments. Del technology world. What's the big story that you think is coming out of the show here? >> Well, it's definitely, you know, the VM wear on del I mean, that is the big story, and it's to your point. It's Del basically saying we're going to integrate this. We're going to hard, we're going to go hard and you know Veum wear on Dell is a preferred solution. No doubt that is top for Dell and PacBell Singer said it. Veum wearing eight of us is the first and preferred solution. Those are the two primary vectors. They're going to drive hard and then Oh, yeah, we'Ll listen to customers Whatever else you want Google as you're fine, we're there. But those two vectors, they're going to Dr David >> build on that because we saw the, um we're building out of multi cloud strategy and what we have today is Del is now putting themselves in there as a first class citizen. Before it was like, Oh, we're doing VX rail and Anna sex and, you know, we'LL integrate all these pieces there, but infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure now it is. It is multi cloud. We want to see that the big table, >> right, Jeff, Jeff Clarke said, Why are you doing both? Let's just one strategy, one company. It's all one Cash registers that >> saying those heard that before. I think the biggest story to me is something that we've been seeing in the Cuban laud, you know, been Mom. This rant horizontally scaleable operating environment is the land grab and then vertically integrate with data into applications that allow each vertical industry leverage data for the kind of intimate, personalized experiences for user experiences in each industry. With oil and gas public sector, each one has got their own experiences that are unique. Data drives that, but the horizontal and tow an operating model when it's on premises hybrid or multi cloud is a huge land grab. And I think that is a major strategic win for Dell, and I think, as if no one challenges them on this. Dave, if HP doesn't go on, emanate change. If H h p e does not do it em in a complete changeover from strategy and pulling, filling their end to end, I think that going to be really hurting I think there's gonna be a tell sign and we'LL see, See who reacts and challenges Del on this in ten. And I think if they can pull it off without being contested, >> the only thing I would say that the only thing I would say that Jonah's you know, HP, you know very well I mean, they got a lot of loyal customers and is a huge market out there. So it's >> Steve. Look at economic. The economics are shifting in the new world. New use cases, new step function of user experiences. This is this is going to be new user experiences at new economic price points that's a business model. Innovation, loyal customers that's hard to sustain. They'Ll keep some clutching and grabbing, but everyone will move to the better mousetrap in the scenario. So the combination of that stability with software it's just this as a big market. >> So John twenty ten Little Table Back Corner, you know of'em See Dylan Blogger World double set. It's something that helped us along the way. >> You know, when we started doing this, Jeff came on board. The team has been amazing. We have been growing up and getting better every show. We really started to see stew, especially something that we've been talking about for years, Well, Dave, if I could jump in on that one of the things that's really interesting is when Veum, I U have a changing of the the architecture. But at the time we said, if you recall, lookit, they got to close the gap. We've been digging into that hybrid cloud taxonomy and some of the services to span I think the reality is is that you go back to twenty ten, the jury in the private cloud and it's enterprises the enterprise market is cyclical, and it's, you know, at some point you're going to start to the is the consolidation of it is just that is a retooling to be cloud ready operationally. show, I talked a lot of the telco people talk to the service of idle talk where the sd whan local market that I'm talking to Use the client business to cover costs. And that all Okay, so you can talk margin expansion all you want. We're in the tenth year of a bull market. You A Packer Enterprises doesn't have the gaping holes in the end to end. So that is a really good point that you're making now. the cash flow and the thing to do that. It's almost half the company's revenue. that bee have the mojo in gaming had the mojo in the edge, and Dale's got all the leverage But the autonomy was the big mistake. So he was there. And then what you gonna do with it? I think that but the whole, you know, the new game or markets and and the new wayto work throwing an edge And so the big thing that Michael get the big thing, Michael Dell said on the Cube was We're not a conglomerate were in the same. I mean the numbers. I think I think you're right. I'm a bull on the value of the company. What's the big story that you think is coming out of the show here? We're going to hard, we're going to go hard and you know Veum wear on Dell is a preferred solution. Oh, we're doing VX rail and Anna sex and, you know, we'LL integrate all these pieces there, It's all one Cash registers that I think the biggest story to me is something that we've been seeing in the Cuban laud, the only thing I would say that the only thing I would say that Jonah's you know, HP, you know very well I mean, So the combination of that stability with software it's just this as a big market. At least a market with Dave Alonso. We are at Del Technologies World. This is our third day of coverage. As John has been saying, This is a cannon double cannon of Q content. We are pleased to welcome back a couple of alumni to keep. We've got Beth failing Presidents data Protection division from Italians. It's great to have you back. And Sherrod Rastogi also welcome back S VP of data protection product management Guys, Lots of news. The last three days, fifteen thousand or so people. Lot of partners. We've been hearing nothing but tremendous amount of positivity and also appreciation from your customers and partners for all of this collaboration within the Della Technologies company with partners. Some of the news, though, that you were on the keynote stage give us some anecdotes that you've heard from customers and partners the last few days about where Del Technologies is going. >> Yeah, I'm happy too. And you know, a big announcements this week. We're a power protect software and the power protect extra hundred appliance. And what we're hearing from customers is this is exactly what we needed to do because the demands on data protection are changing with more more. Brooke look being distributed with data being more more important and with the risks being more more prevalent that they were looking for us to take a bold step and introduce this next generation software to find platform. And so the feedback you're getting is you've done what you needed to do, and they're looking forward to learning more. >> So I wonder if we could sort of explore a little bit this concept of data management. So data management lead needs different things to different people. Sure, if your database person maybe maybe different from a person who's doing data protection, what does it mean in a data protection context? I think >> first of all, you know, having visibility off your data all across your infrastructure that resides in the edge. The court a cloud across multiple applications in physical virtual environments, right? So having full facility that I think is one component second is not the ability to move the data across seamlessly across any socially target but it is on track in the cloud. Robert Cloud. I think that sort of a second element, the third and probably the most important is how do you actually get value from the data, right? Already, Actually, not only unable to protect it, but make it available at the right time, right place for the right application and be able to use it because, as you know, data is the fuel of the modern visual economy. On making it available is really, really critical. And that to me. So you're combining all of that is what I would consider it at management to be. >> So double click on that. I mean, could you be more specific about the attributes of, you know, a modern data management system? So I >> would say, you know, any modern technology may be modular FBI driven, you know, it really sort of the automate scale performance coverage. All those attributes, I think are very important for any more than data protection product and be able to meet the needs of our customers. You know, high scale hi coverage and rapidly, >> and that gives you a cloud like experience presumably allows you to scale out many a performance. I've seen some of the conversations that start associating with that or scale in place Bath. You talked about that? Yeah, Well, yeah. I want to explore a little bit about your business because you know who knew? Who would have predicted a few years ago? The data protection would always because all of a sudden become this hot space veces diving in hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars being spent. And of course, you're the biggest player. So everybody wants a piece of your hide. And so and you got a portfolio. It goes back up llegado days. They have amar stuff data, domaine et cetera, et cetera. She had a sort of make sure that that was logical for your customers. Protect those customers that have made investment of you, but also shoma roadmap. Jeff Clark comes in, says, Okay, we're going to simplify, you know, marching orders. Your business in a very rapid time has transformed. Can you talk about that? What's what's taking place in your business? >> Absolutely, David, it's so interesting even comparing last year to this year, right? We're at this pivot point where we're building on the legacy of Trust and I T and knowledge and experience that we have. But we're now setting the foundation to be number one and data protection and data management for the next ten years. Introducing this new set of products were able to bring a customer's forward. We call it the path to power. So in addition to that, bring new customers into the family. We're looking for all those aspects of modern day to management, with simplicity, with multi cloud, with automation and with the new use cases where it's more than just back up. It's CCD are its analytics. It's testing toe. It's validation. So this is whole spectrum of things that we can expand into now that we have this new platform. It's really exciting. >> It is exciting. And yesterday the under Armour video was very cool, and one of the things that they set in there is that there they're leveraging data for brand reputation. I mean, they've got under Armour has incredible brand ambassadors Tom Brady, Steph Curry. But looking at it as not just a business ever. But this is actually tied to our brand reputation, did. It is so incredibly pivotal to the lifeblood of a business. It has to be protected. >> Yeah, and that's a big theme. And you probably something too. But, you know, in this day and time data is no longer something that maybe people in I'd worry about write It is now the lifeblood of most of our customers, corporations and at the same time list, like the threat of malware are very prevalent. And so things like what we've done with cyber recovery always were working with our customers to protect their data. In a survey we just did. With twenty two hundred I t professionals, twenty eight percent of them had had some data loss in the last twelve months. So the risk of data loss is real. And we take our responsibility very seriously to help our customers protect from that risk. >> So I like this message to any source. Any target, any s l a. I would I would had any workload and because on so talk about you're differentiation in the marketplace, that would be great, because it's hard sometimes, you know, squint through all the marketing. And so what makes you guys different specifically thinking >> about Delhi emcee Indiana production historically has its strength in dealing with complex work clothes at high scale, with high performance on having a wide coverage of work has been a strength and actually had very low cost, very efficient, right? So that string we sort of carry on into the future. And what we're adding on is I would say that the next degree off simplification and ease off ease off, install, upgrade use. Making those work was very, very simple, right? So I think that's another dimension. We are God. We're adding our dimension, what we call multi dimensional scale, which is both scale up and scale out the same time when you actually add more notes and more cubes, you are not only capacity, but he also improved performance, right? That's it, architecturally, a fundamentally different way in Harvey approach it. So I think that's an element of innovation, and I think on performance we're introducing our first all flash off Lions industry first, So we're super excited about that. And so I think it just helped our customers in terms of restore interactions store Do those work was a lot faster. Those are some other elements in which we continue innovating. >> That's great. Yeah, so you talk about the power protect X four hundred, which is your flesh. John Rose said something on stage. Beth, I want to ask you, Teo, sort of add some color. Hey, said this is not just secondary storage. It's protected. Managed infrastructure, >> huh? That's great face. >> What? What did he mean by that? And what should we take away? >> I mean, it shows how we're broadening the use cases that these products can help satisfy. And so much of what we're talking about Del Technologies is a simplified infrastructure across the board, not thinking about just point products, but giving the customer that experience of a seamless extendable infrastructure. So protected managed infrastructure means that your infrastructure, something you have, can confidence it's protected and that you also are not just dealing with all of these pieces and parts. But I can think of it has a managed whole. I think that that helps out and talk to John about that. But that's what I take away from what he's saying. >> If I can just add to that, I would say Like, you know, data management is sort of the perfect glue across the whole del technology infrastructure, but a server storage bm We're, you know, eighty, you know, infrastructure pivotal, right? Data management data productions are off, cuts across everything, and we can bring everything together. So >> I would like to add something to that if I make it. You know Beth on sure Art as well. Data protection Backup was always OK. We gotta back it up. Who's gonna? Okay, Bump bolted on. And what's happening is the lines are blurring. Primary storage, secondary storage. You're seeing back up in the e r. Use cases. You talked about analytics and, you know, so many new emerging. That's why it is so exciting. And so because those lines are blurring, you get more value out of the system. It goes beyond just insurance. And that means this could be a lot of money being made here >> if there is. And it is also a really important need, write one thing that we haven't touched on. But I also think it's really important is with our protect we're helping combine self service with centralized governance. So what I mean by that is, if you're a V a madman or Oracle Adnan or a sequel admin, you know, you could have control over protecting your data, but we pair that with a single, you know, governance model. So if I'm the person is responsible for my company's entire, you know, data set, I can still make sure that everything's happening is it should be. And there are no anomalies, so we're really making it as easy as possible, for the business is within our customers to protect and manage their data but not making it the Wild West. Because somebody in the end is accountable for saying I know where all the data is, and I know it's protected, so it's having both of those users. >> So as data protection has really elevated, the stay was saying to become its way beyond an insurance policy. This is absolutely table stakes because data has so much value and so much value that organisations haven't even been able to extract it right, how the conversation within the customer base changed. It's not just to the admin girl or guy anymore. Rightness is Are you saying this really leveled up Tio? Maybe a senior level C level challenge as our business imperative that the state of must be protected and readily accessible at any time. Who are you talking to? >> So answer quickly that I lied to you when we're talking to the eye to decision makers. So seo no, that level data protection strategy has become something that they have in their priority list, right? It's not really in any way what it was maybe five or ten years ago. Now it's something that there's cord of what they hold as their responsibilities, executives and and that's great. It's great to have those kind of conversations because it's strategic. >> Another conversation. Just an example from yesterday, while speaking with one of the chief architects at a major company, they're really talking about cyber security on How do you use Extend? You know what we offer into a full solution across their technology. Do address, you know, doesn't use case right. So I think it's expanding beyond just back up and protection to true protection off the data. Very most mission critical data is available and not just protected. They also want to talk about how can you recover that real quickly in very quick time, so that your operation, when you do have that cyber, if and when you have that attack So I think it's just expanding toe touch. A lot more customers, I would say Our people buying, buying decision makers across >> so that when I talk to people in division I sense a renewed energy. A renewed focus. I mean, GMC before Del. Tell'Em Steve always been really good. Taking engineering resource is to getting products out to the market. But But I I see again more focused effort here and one of the exam to keep pushing on. Is this notion of cloud model so beyond? Just okay, there's a target. How do we now get to that? You know, data protection is a service small. I know that you're working toward that. I know it's, you know, a lot of it's It's early days there, but you've got to be a leader in that, I presume. So. I want to keep watching that pushing that I won if you guys could comment on what coming >> on, both things that you said. First of all, there's absolutely a level of excitement and focus and confidence in what we're doing in the product groups. I'm really changing the way we're developing software so that we have a new customer value coming out every quarter. And they were having clarity between the top level strategies. White downs, what individual engineers are working on. So that's fun and excited because we're truly transforming the way we're developing Product says point one. And the second one, absolutely here, that theme throughout all of what we're talking about. You heard a nun day one, No, giving people that cloud that experience infrastructure has a service which certainly includes data management and data protection so they can consume it in a way that fit step business that scales with business That's automated, that doesn't require, you know, massive manual steps and is more what people expect today was a cloud like experience, even for them on from data centers. Clearly, that's where we're moving. And this one more point is you know, people really want automation they don't wanna have to think about. Did I remember to protect everything? They want the system to do that for them. So you'LL see more of that from us as well. You know how we helping them with machine learning? An A I an automation so they can have confidence that all of the assets are protected even if they haven't remember to do it all. >> I mean, I just add to it. I've bean at Delhi emcee for about a year. >> It >> has been a fantastic journey waiting. It's exciting. It's been awesome. Awesome experience. I totally see the >> focus. And I think that renewed focus the cloud like a model and the innovation. They all go hand in hand because the old waterfall model of okay, we're gonna develop properties shipment every year, eighteen months. Whatever it is that doesn't fly anymore. People want innovations, and now they want to push code every day. Right? So our baby, every quarter at least. >> Yeah. Yeah. Facing new energy to the engineers as well. >> So I mean, I understand that many of your team, if not your entire engineering team, has been trained in agile. Is that my getting it right? Is that right? >> Yeah, yeah, >> not just not just like internal train. You guys brought in outside people and really took him through some formal training. Right >> way have in multiple different kinds of training. And we have lots of communications inside to get people coaching. And it's not just a process book that we're following its really a different way of thinking about how you bring customer value in small increments, staying in a good known stay and making sure that we're maximizing our engineering capacity. >> That's big. And I wish we had more time cause that's cultural train. Yeah, yeah, that you guys are really driving. And we also didn't have time to touch on partners, but it can imagine there's a lot of excitement and your huge partner community about what you guys are doing This. Robbie, Welcome back. >> Thank you, Lisa. Much appreciated. >> And you brought some Hollywood? Yes. Glenn Glenn ER, president of Sony Innovation Studios. Glenn and welcome to the Cube. >> Thank you very much. It's great to be here. >> So you are love this intersection of Hollywood and technology. But you're a filmmaker. >> Yeah. I have been filming movies for many years. Uh, I started off making motion pictures for many years. Executive produced him and over so production for them at one of our movie labels called Screen Gems, which is part of Sony Pictures. >> Wait a tremendous amount of evolution of the creative process being really fueled by technology and vice versa. Sony Innovation Studios is not quite one year old. This is a really exciting venture. Tell us about that and and what the the impetus was to start this company. >> You know that the genesis for it was based out of necessity because I looked at a nice Well, you know, I love making movies were doing it for a long time. And the challenge of making good pictures is resource is and you never get enough money believing not you never get enough money and never get enough time. That's everybody's issue, particularly time management. And I thought, Well, you know, we got a pretty good technology company behind us. What if we looked inward towards technology to help us find solutions? And so innovation studios is born out of that idea on what was exciting about it was to know that we had, uh, invited partners to the game right here with Del so that we could make movies and television shows and commercials and even enterprise solutions leaning into state of the art and cutting edge technology. >> And what some of the work prize and you guys envision coming out this mission you mentioned commercials. TV is it going to be like an artist's studio actor? Ackerson Ball is Take us through what this is going to look like. How does it get billed out? >> I lean into my career as a producer. To answer that one and say is going to enable that's one of the greatest things about being a producer is enabling stories, uh, inspiring ideas to be Greenland. That may not have been able to be done so before. And there's a key reason why we can't do that, because one of our key technologies is what we call the volumetric image acquisition. That's a lot of words. You probably say. What the heck is that? But a volumetric image acquisition is our ability to capture a real world, this analog world and digitize it, bring it into our servers using the power of Del and then live in that new environment, which is now a virtual sets. And that virtual set is made out of billions and trillions in quadrillions of points, much like the matter around us. And it's a difference because many people use pixels, which is interpretation of like worry, using points which is representative of the world around us, so it's a whole revolutionary way of looking at it. But what it allows us to do is actually film in it in a thirty K moving volume. >> It's like a monster green screen for the world. Been away >> in a way, your your your your action around it because you have peril X so these cameras could be photographing us. And for all you know, we may not be here. Could be at stage seven at Innovation Studios and not physically here, but you couldn't tell it. If >> this is like cloud computing, we talking check world, you don't the provisional these resource is you just get what you want. This is Hollywood looking at the artistry, enabling faster, more agile storytelling. You don't need to go set up a town and go get the permit. All the all the heavy lifting you're shooting in this new digital realm. >> That's right. Exactly. Now I love going on location on. There's a lot to celebrate about going on location, but we can always get to that location. Think of all the locations that we want to be in that air >> base off limits. Both space, the one I >> haven't been, uh, but but on said I've been I've walked on virtual moons and I've walked on set moons. But what if we did a volumetric image acquisition of someone set off the moon? Now we have that, and then we can walk around it. Or what if there's a great club, a nightclub? This says guys want you shoot here, but we have performances Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night there. You know they have a job. What if we grab that image, acquired it, and then you could be there anytime you want. >> Robbie, we could go for an hour here. This is just a great comic. I >> completely agree with you. >> The Cube. You could. You could sponsor a cube in this new world. We could run the Q twenty four seven. That's absolutely >> right. And we don't even have >> to talk about the relationship with Dale because on Del Technologies, because you're enabling new capabilities. New kind of artistry was just totally cool. Want to get back to the second? But you guys were involved. What's your role? How do you get involved? Tell the story about your >> John. I mean, first and foremost one of things that didn't Glendon mention is he's actually got about fifty movies to his credit. So the guy actually knows this stuff, so which is absolutely fantastic. So we said, How do you go take average to the next level? So what else is better than trying to work something out, wherein we together between what Glenn and Esteem does at the Sony Innovation Labs for Studio Sorry. And as in Dead Technologies could do is to try and actually stretch the boundaries of our technology to a next tent that when he talks about kazillion bytes of data right one followed the harmony of our zeros way have to be able to process the data quickly. We have to be able to go out and do their rendering. We probably have to go out and do whatever is needed to make a high quality movie, and that, I think, in a way, is actually giving us an opportunity to go back and test the boundaries of their technology. They're building, which we believe this is the first of its kind in the media industry. If we can go learn together from this experience, we can actually go ahead and do other things in other industries. To maybe, and we were just talking about how we could also take this. He's got his labs here in Los Angeles, were thinking maybe one of the next things we do based on the learnings we get, we probably could take it to other parts of the world. And if we are successful, we might even take it to other industries. What if we could go do something to help in this field of medicine? >> It's just thinking that, right? Yes. >> Think about it. Lisa, John. I mean, it's phenomenal. I mean, this is something Michael always talks about is how do we as del technologies help in progress in the human kind? And if this is something that we can learn from, I think it's going to be phenomenal. >> I think I think that's so interesting. Not only is that a good angle for Del Technologies, the thing that strikes me is the access toe artist trees, voices, new voices that may be missed in the prop the vetting process the old way. But, you know, you got to know where we're going. No, in the Venture Capital way seen this with democratization of seed labs and incubators, where, if you can create access to the story, tells on the artists we're gonna have one more exposure to people might have missed. But also as things change, like whether it's Ray Ray beaming and streaming, we saw in the gaming side to pull a metric or volumetric things. You're gonna have a better canvas, more paint brushes on the creative side and more. Artist. Is that the mission to get AC, get those artists in there? Is it? Is that part of the core mission submission? Because you're going to be essentially incubating new opportunities really fast. >> It's, uh, it's very important to me. Personally. I know it speaks of the values of both Sony and L. I like to call it the democratization of storytelling. You know, I've been very blessed again, a Hollywood producer, and we maybe curate a certain kind of movie, a certain kind of experience. But there's so many voices around the world that need to be hurt, and there are so many stories that otherwise can't be enabled. Imagine a story that perhaps is a unique >> special voice but requires distance. It requires five disparate locations Perhaps it's in London, Piccadilly Circus and in Times Square. And perhaps it's overto Abu Dhabi on DH Libya somewhere because that's part of the story. We can now collapse geography and bring those locations to a central place and allow a story to be told that may not otherwise have been able to be created. And that's vital to the fabric of storytelling worldwide's >> going change the creative process to you don't have to have that waterfall kind of mentality like we don't talk about intact. You're totally distributed content, decentralized, potentially the creative process going change with all the tools and also the visual tools. >> That's right. It's >> almost becoming unlimited. >> You wanted to be unlimited. You want the human spirit to be unlimited. You want to be able to elevate people on. That's the great thing about what we're trying to achieve and will achieve. >> It is your right. I mean, it is interesting, you know, we were just talking about this, too. Uh, we're in, you know, as an example. Shock tank. Yes, right. I mean, they obviously did it. The filming and stuff, and then they don't have the access. Let's say to the right studio. But the fact is, they had all this done. Andi, you know, they had all the rendering they had captured. Already done. You could now go out and do your chute without having all the space you needed. >> That's right. In the case of Shark Tank, which shoots a Sony Pictures studios, they knew they had a real estate issue. The fact of the matter is, there's a limited amount of sound stages around the world. They needed to sound stages and only had access to one. So we went in and we did a volumetric image acquisition of their exit interview stage. They're set. And then when it came time to shoot the second half a season ten, one hundred contestants went into a virtual set and were filmed in that set. And the funny thing is, one of the guys in the truck you know how you have the camera trucks and, you know, off offstage, he leaned into the mike. Is that you guys, could you move that plant a couple inches to the left and somebody said, Uh, I don't think we can do it right now, he said, We're on a movie lot. You could move a plant. They said No, it's physically not there. We're on innovation studios goes Oh, that's right. It's virtual mind. >> So he was fooled. >> He was pulled. In a way, we're >> being hashing it out within a team. When we heard about some of the things you know Glenn and Team are doing is think about this. If you have to teach people when we are running short of doctors, right? Yeah, if you could. With this technology and the learnings that come from here, if you could go have an expert surgeon do surgery once you're captured, it would be nice. Just imagine, to take that learning, go to the new surgeons of the future and trained them and so they can get into the act without actually doing it. So my point and all this is this is where I think we can take technology, that next level where we can not only learn from one specific industry, but we could potentially put it to human good in terms of what we could to and not only preparing the next of doctors, but also take it to the next level. >> This was a great theme to Michael Dell put out there about these new kinds of use case is that the time is now to do before. Maybe you could get there technology, but maybe aspirational. Hey, let's do it. I could see that, Glenn, I want to ask you specifically. The time is now. This is all kind of coming together. Timing's pretty good. It's only gonna get better. It's gonna be good Tech, Tech mojo Coming for the creative side. Where were we before? Because I can almost imagine this is not a new vision for you. Probably seen it now that this house here now what was it like before for, um and compare contrast where you were a few years ago, maybe decades. Now what's different? Why? Why is this so important >> for me? There's a fundamental change in how we can create content and how we can tell stories. It used to be the two most expensive words in the movie TV industry were what if today that the most important words to me or what if Because what if we could collapse geography? What if we could empower a new story? Technology is at a place where, if we can dream it. Chances are we can make it a reality. We're changing the dynamics of how we may content. He used to be lights, action camera. I think it's now lights, action, compute power action, you know, is that kind of difference. >> That is an amazing vision. I think society now has opportunities to kind of take that from distance learning to distance connections, the distance sharing experiences, whether it's immersion, virtual analog face, the face could really be powerful. Yeah, >> and this is not even a year old. >> That's right. >> So if you look at your your launch, you said, I think let june fourth twenty eighteen. What? Where do you go from here? I mean, like we said, this is like, unlimited possibilities. But besides putting Robbie in the movie, naturally, Yes, of course I have >> a star here >> who? E. >> So I got to say he's got star power. >> What's what's next year? Exactly? >> Very exciting. I will say we have shark tank Thie Advanced Imaging Society gives an award for being the first volume met you set ever put out on the airwaves. Uh, for that television show is a great honor. We have already captured uh, men in black. We captured a fifty thousand square foot stage that had the men in black headquarters has been used for commercials to market the film that comes out this June. We have captured sets where television shows >> and in hopes, that they got a second season and one television show called up and said, Guys, we got the second season so they don't have to go back to what was a very expensive set and a beautiful set >> way captured that set. It reminds me of a story of productions and a friend of mine said, which is every year. The greatest gift I have is building a beautiful set and and to me, the biggest challenges. When I say, remember that sent you built four years ago? I need that again. Now you can go >> toe. It's hard to replicate the exact set. You capture it digitally. It lives. >> That's exactly it. >> And this is amazing. I mean, I'd love to do a cube set into do ah, like a simulcast. Virtually. >> So. This is the next thing John and Lisa. You guys could be sitting anywhere going forward >> way. You don't have to be really sitting here >> you could be doing. What do you have to do? And, you know, you got everything rendered >> captured. We don't have to come to Vegas twenty times a year. >> We billed upset once. You >> know you want to see you here believing that So I'LL take that >> visual is a really beautiful thing. So if we can with hologram just seeing people doing conscious with Hollywood. Frank Zappa just did a concert hologram concert, but bringing real people and from communities around the world where the localization diversity right into a content mixture is just so powerful. >> Actually, you said something very interesting, John, which is one of the other teams to which is, if you have a globally connected society and he wanted try and personalize it to that particular nation ethnicity group. You can do that easily now because you can probably pop in actors from the local area with the same. Yeah, think about it. >> It's surely right. >> There's a cascade of transformations that that this is going Teo to generate. I mean just thinking of how different even acting schools and drama schools will be well, teaching people how to behave in these virtual environments, right? >> How to immerse themselves in these environments. And we have tricks up our sleeves that Khun put the actor in that moment through projection mapping and the other techniques that allow filmmakers and actors to actually understand the world. They're about to stepped in rather than a green screen and saying, OK, there's going to be a creature over here is gonna be blue Water falls over there will actually be able to see that environment because that environment will exist before they step on the stage. >> Well, great job the Del Partnership. On my final question, Glenn, free since you're awesome and got a great vision so smart, experienced, I've been really thinking a lot about how visualization and artistry are coming together and how disciplines silo disciplines like music. They do great music, but they're not translating to the graphics. It was just some about Ray tracing and the impact with GP use for an immersive experiences, which we're seeing on the client side of the house. It del So you got the back and stuff you metrics. And so, as artist trees, the next generation come up. This is now a link between the visual that audio the storytelling. It's not a siloed. >> It is not >> your I want to get your vision on. How do you see this playing out and your advice for young artists? That might be, you know, looked as country. What do you know? That's not how we do it. >> Well, the beautiful thing is that there are new ways to tell stories. You know, Hollywood has evolved over the last century. If you look at the studios and still exist, they have all evolved, and that's why they do exist. Great storytellers evolved. We tell stories differently, so long as we can emotionally relate to the story that's being told. I say, Do it in your own voice. The cinematic power is among us. We're blessed that when we look back, we have that shared experience, whether it's animate from Japan or traditional animation from Walt Disney everybody, she shares a similar history. Now it's opportunity to author our new stories, and we can do that and physical assets and volumetric assets and weaken blend the real and the unreal. With the compute power. We probably have to go out and do whatever is needed to make a high quality movie, and that, I think, in a way, is actually giving us an opportunity to go back and test the boundaries of their technology. They're building, which we believe this is the first of its kind in the media industry. If we can go learn together from this experience, we can actually go ahead and do other things in other industries do. Maybe. And we were just talking about how we could also take this. He's got his labs here in Los Angeles, were thinking maybe one of the next things we do based on the learning to get. We probably could take it to other parts of the world. And if we are successful, we might even take it to other industries. What if we could go do something to help in this field of medicine? >> It's just thinking that, right? Yes. Think >> about it. Lisa, John. I mean, it's phenomenal. I mean, this is something Michael always talks about is how do we as del technologies help in progress in the human kind? And if this is something that we can learn from, I think it's going to be phenomenal. >> I think I think that's so interesting. Not only is that a good angle for Del Technologies, the thing that strikes me is the access to artist trees, voices, new voices that may be missed in the prop the vetting process the old way. But, you know, you got to know where we're going. No, in the venture, cobble way seen this with democratization of seed labs and incubators where, if you can create access to the story, tells on the artists we're gonna have one more exposure to people might have missed. But also as things change, like whether it's Ray Ray beaming and streaming we saw in the gaming side to volumetric or volumetric things, you're gonna have a better canvas, more paint brushes on the creative side and more action. Is that the mission to get AC Get those artists in there? Is it? Is that part of the core mission submission? Because you're going to be essentially incubating new opportunities really fast. >> It's, uh, it's very important to me. Personally. I know it speaks of the values of both Sony and L. I like to call it the democratization of storytelling. You know, I've been very blessed again, a Hollywood producer, and we maybe curate a certain kind of movie, a certain kind of experience. But there's so many voices around the world that need to be hurt, and there are so many stories that otherwise can't be enabled. Imagine a story that perhaps is >> a unique special voice but requires distance. It requires five disparate locations. Perhaps it's in London Piccadilly Circus and in Times Square. And perhaps it's overto Abu Dhabi on DH Libya somewhere because that's part of the story. We can now collapse geography and bring those locations to a central place and allow a story to be told that may not otherwise have been able to be created. And that's vital to the fabric of storytelling. Worldwide >> is going to change the creative process to You don't have to have that waterfall kind of mentality like we don't talk about intact. You're totally distributed content, decentralized, potentially the creative process going change with all the tools and also the visual tools. >> That's right. It's >> almost becoming unlimited. >> You want it to be unlimited. You want the human spirit to be unlimited. You want to be able to elevate people on. That's the great thing about what we're trying to achieve and will achieve. >> It is your right. I mean, it is interesting, you know, we were just talking about this too. We're in, you know, as an example, shock tank. Yes, right. I mean, they obviously did it the filming and stuff, and then they don't have the access, let's say to the right studio, but The fact is, there had all this done on DH. No, they had all the rendering. They had the captured already done. You could now go out and do your chute without having all the space you needed. >> That's right. In the case of Shark Tank, which shoots a Sony Pictures studios, they knew they had a real estate issue. The fact of the matter is, there's a limited amount of sound stages around the world. They needed to sound stages and only had access to one. So we went in and we did a volumetric image acquisition of their exit interview stage. They're set. And then when it came time to shoot the second half a season ten, one hundred contestants went into a virtual set and were filmed in that set. And the funny thing is, one of the guys in the truck you know how you have the camera trucks and, you know, off offstage, he leaned into the mike. Is that you guys, could you move that plant a couple inches to the left and somebody said, Uh, I don't think we can do it right now, he said. We're on a movie lot. You could move a plant. They said, No, it's physically not there. We're on innovation studios goes Oh, that's right. It's virtual mind. >> So he was fooled. >> He was pulled. In a way, we're >> being hashing it out within a team. When we heard about some of the things you know Glenn and Team are doing is think about this. If you have to teach people when we are running short of doctors, right? Yeah, if you could. With this technology and the learnings that come from here, if you could go have an expert surgeon do surgery once you're captured, it would be nice. Just imagine, to take that learning, go to the new surgeons of the future and trained them and so they can get into the act without actually doing it. So my point in all this is this is where I think we can take technology, that next level where we can not only learn from one specific industry, but we could potentially put it to human good in terms of what we could to and not only preparing the next of doctors, but also take it to the next level. >> This was a great theme to Michael Dell put out there about these new kinds of use case is that the time is now to do before. Maybe you couldn't get there with technology, but maybe aspirational, eh? Let's do it. I could see that. Glenn, I want to ask you specifically. The time is now. This is all kind of coming together. Timing's pretty good. It's only gonna get better. It's gonna be good. Tech, Tech mojo Coming for the creative side. Where were we before? Because I could almost imagine this is not a new vision for you. Probably seen it now that this house here now what was it like before for, um and compare contrast where you were a few years ago, maybe decades. Now what's different? Why? Why is this so important? >> You know, for me, there's a fundamental change in how we can create content and how we can tell stories. It used to be the two most expensive words in the movie TV industry were what if today that the most important words to me or what if Because what if we could collapse geography? What if we could empower a new story? Technology is at a place where if we can dream it. Chances are we can make it a reality. We're changing the dynamics of how we may content. He used to be lights, action, camera. I think it's now lights, action, compute power action, you know, is that kind of difference. >> That is an amazing vision. I think society now has opportunities to kind of take that from distance learning to distance connections, the distance sharing experiences, whether it's immersion, virtual analog face the face. I could really be powerful. Yeah, >> and this is not even a year old. >> That's right. >> So if you look at your your launch, you said, I think let june fourth twenty eighteen. What? Where do you go from here? I mean, like we said, this is like, unlimited possibilities. But besides putting Robbie in the movie, naturally, Yes, of course I have >> a star here >> who video. >> So I got to say he's got star power. >> What's what. The next year? Exactly. >> Very exciting. I will say we have shark tank Thie Advanced Imaging Society gives an award for being the first volume metric set ever put out on the airwaves. Uh, for that television show was a great honor. Uh, we have already captured, uh, men in black. We captured a fifty thousand square foot stage that had the men in black headquarters has been used for commercials to market the film that comes out this June. We have captured sets where television >> shows and in the in hopes that they got a second season and one television show called up and said, Guys, we got the second season so they don't have to go back to what was a very expensive set and a beautiful set >> Way captured that set. It reminds me of a story of productions and a friend of mine said, which is every year. The greatest gift I have is building a beautiful set and and to me, the biggest challenges. When I say, remember that sent you built four years ago. I need that again. Now you can go >> toe hard, replicate the exact set, you capture it digitally. It lives. >> That's exactly it. >> And this is amazing. I mean, I'd love to do a cube set into do ah, like a simulcasts. Virtually. >> So. This is the next thing John and Lisa. You guys could be sitting anywhere going forward. We don't have to be really sitting here you could be doing. What do you have to do? And, you know, you got everything rendered >> captured. We don't have to come to Vegas twenty times a year. >> We billed upset once >> You want to see you here believing that So I'LL take that >> visual is a really beautiful thing. So if we can with hologram just seeing people doing conscious. But Hollywood Frank Zappa just did a concert hologram concert, but bringing real people and from communities around the world where the localization diversity right into a content mixture is just so powerful. >> Actually, you said something very interesting, John, which is one of the other teams to which is, if you have a globally connected society and he wanted try and personalize it to that particular nation ethnicity group. You can do that easily now because you can probably pop in actors from the local area with the same city. Yeah, think about it. >> It's surely right. >> There's a cascade of transformations that that this is going Teo to generate. I mean just thinking of how different even acting schools and drama schools will be well, teaching people how to behave in these virtual environments, right? >> How to immerse themselves in these environments. And we have tricks up our sleeves that Khun put the actor in that moment through projection mapping and the other techniques that allow filmmakers and actors to actually understand the world. They're about to stepped in rather than a green screen and saying, OK, there's going to be a creature over here is gonna be blue Water Falls over there will actually be able to see that environment because that environment will exist before they step on the stage. >> Well, great job the Dale Partnership On my final question, Glenn free since you're awesome and got a great vision so smart, experienced, I've been really thinking a lot about how visualization and artistry are coming together and how disciplines silo disciplines like music. They do great music, but they're not translating to the graphics. It was just some about Ray tracing and the impact with GP use for immersive experiences, which was seeing on the client side of the house. It del So you got the back and stuff, but you metrics. And so, as artist trees, the next generation come up. This is now a link between the visual that audio, the storytelling. It's not a siloed. >> It is not >> your I want to get your vision on. How do you see this playing out and your advice for young artists? That might be, you know, looked as country. What do you know? That's not how we do it. >> Well, the beautiful thing is that there are new ways to tell stories. You know, Hollywood has evolved over the last century. If you look at the studios and still exist, they have all evolved, and that's why they do exist. Great storytellers evolved. We tell stories differently, so long as we can emotionally relate to the story that's being told. I say Do it in your own voice. The cinematic power is among us. We're blessed that when we look back, we have that shared experience, whether it's animate from Japan or traditional animation from Walt Disney, everybody shares a similar history. Now it's opportunity to author our new stories and we can do that and physical assets and volumetric assets and weakened blend the real and the unreal. With the compute power. I'm Lisa Martin with one of the best men in TV Dressed man Dave Alon Today that Ty is awfully dapper today. Always a pleasure to be with you. And we're pleased to welcome back to the Cube tight Schmidt, VP and fellow of extreme skill infrastructure from Delhi and see, we're all kind of color coordinator here. Somebody sent us a memo Happy to be back. Thank you. Great to have you here. So we've We've been having great conversations the last day and a half. Lots of energy, lots of excitement. This is the first doll Technologies World sensed all returned to the stock market a few months ago. Talk on all things. Lots of buzzwords. Hybrid multi cloud partnerships edge One of the things that Jeff Clarke said this morning in his key Now that I think needs to be said in a game of thrones Voice is the edges coming? Just coming. What is the edge meat isn't like digital transformation, where it means five things to two different people. >> Yes, so the edges coming. Some would say the edge has been here, but now it's being at least, uh called something that we could try to get her head's wrapped around. Right? So, uh, the edges has been here. It's here. It's It's continuing to manifest itself. I'm gonna give you a couple of examples what we're hearing from customers. You know, human nature is I want this thing to be defined. I want it to be something stable, bounded that I can then go and create a work force or a product line. And I know exactly what we're doing. Well, I've got news for those folks. It's not that it's, Ah, it's chaotic. It's dynamic. It's disruptive. Um, I'll bucket ties it into a few big level buckets that we're seeing, but the thing I'm trying to get people to get their heads wrapped around is that the edges not defining usage models the edges, not defining products. The usage model is defining the edge, and so there's thousands and thousands of different usage models, But I'll talk about a few of them right. Um, I think most people would be in their minds. They're thinking about a distributed network and distributed data set or something outside of my traditional data center space. And I need compute storage, Something to facilitate my business. I'm calling that the private edge still a little bit from the private cloud, calling it the private edge. And basically it is, um, it's a It's a direct ingest or usage of compute that I'm buying storage that I need. It's at a location typically follows the data. So where I'm collecting data, my my array of sensors and cameras and you name it I ot type devices where that data is that I need to have on prem Data center capacity to collect that data, do something with that data, and then action. Do something actionable at that facility. And, you know, uh, minds and construction centres and retail stores. People talk about autonomous vehicles. Reality is is leading up to the autonomous vehicle. There's a need for data collected off of these cars as they're experimenting >> with different terrain and weather conditions and driving conditions, and we are providing those types of edge data center capabilities for those automotive companies to drive their cars around, stop into these depots, download their data, get updates, and off they go to collect more data. And that's an example of the private edge. So we've seen everybody been data centers, face floor, pristine, beautiful. You know, physical security. The edge could be a truck, a police car, doc. But it could be anything. So how are you seeing customers deal with the physical security aspects of the edge? That's a great question. So there and there's a physical in logical component to it, right, So they're all over the place. So these first, these first examples of where we're seeing EJ being actually adopted outside of a traditional data center space, tremendous sensitivity, toe physical security. Some of them are taking care of it themselves. So they have, uh, courtyard or a building that they're wanting to simply put a device in. And they're handling security, physical security at that location, others are Listen, I'm trying to understand the cost trade offs of building this fortress, which kind of his counter counter productive to what I'm trying to accomplish here. Can you provide that as part of your data center? solution. And so, looking at things like ballistic protection, overall theft protection, these things air smaller. They can be hold off, so we have to anchor them to the ground. We have to have wave to think differently about how these things are connected so that somebody can come up and cut through a wall or cut through a pipe and get access to this critical data. So how we approach that physically eyes is a tremendous, tremendous concern to customers. And we're addressing that through the solutions were providing ballistics bombproof flameproof intrusion proof different types of biometric sensors. In some cases, we hide them in plain sight, painted with graffiti, puts a bullet holes on him, make it look like they're not worth anything. You're it. So you do have some serious stress testing as well. Which was what? Your favorite stress test. >> There's a lot of shock and vibe testing, so we have a way to protect against seismic. We have to >> protect against wind loads. You we may have a thousand pounds of snow on top of, and we have to test these things against those type of environmental conditions. Way haven't, uh, we have it yet back. You try to drive over one with a bulldozer or some type of a vehicle, but we do do impact testing, ballistic test sting. And there's there's a lot of fun testing, and I don't mean to minimize the logical security. A lot of this is critical infrastructure, right? So, you know, if it talks about the threat matrix and so, uh, what do you see in there? What's what's Del bringing to the table? I mean, are are, you know, wonderful array of security elements with our company right now are implying that I think we're having to do with customers. This is an early part of the journey is how is this data being protected? And the logical component, at least what we're seeing today doesn't necessarily differ as much from the traditional data center. But things like, um, you can automatically detect whether an intrusion of physical deters has been made and decide to do something actionable, like lock hard drives where even if somebody was to steal a server or the hard drive, they can't do anything with it. GPS type sensors and devices that can track the valuable components in the solution and not allow them to be turned back on unless they are connected into that network. A za proofpoint. So there are a number of things that are that are being driven that somewhat looks like the traditional data center, by essence of where they're located and how these things are remote way have to. We have to think about that >> when you're talking >> with customers who are on everybody's on a journey of many different types. Digital transformation. I t. Security Workforce We've talked about all of those things last year's Del Tech world and, of course, this week as well. How do you advise them of Where do I start if I have Like, for example, when dehl was talking about the latitude devices this morning and all of this really cool tech built and even with train protection, for example, were all, and John Reese even talked about the edge of people the end, the edge of Io ti and centers, which makes sense. But where does a company like Adele stirred these conversations with customers who have a tonne? Probably People edges and io ti edges are yeah, so with where do we start? Kind of raining this all ends, we get the data out on it in real time, process it as close to where it's being generated as possible in a way that we can we can actually understand. >> This's the world I live in, right? So fundamentally, it helps us understand that that most companies, >> um, >> you know, lots of different organizations. But when it comes to a data center type of solution, you have the group who are trying to do something transformational the software writers, the applications and workload developers who are trying to take advantage of next generation it to do something transformational, you have the also you have the facility side. So this is the data center, the real estate, and the two don't necessarily, you know, talk about strategy in a line on how they're going to facilitate transformation. It's ultimately it starts with having deep discussions with both of those organisations. What are you trying to do to transform your business? How does that translate to the types of gear storage networking that you're going to require? What if you weren't constrained by your facility? What could you do and paint that picture for them? It also in parallel involves deep discussions with the facility and corporal estate side of of a company. What do you have? What are your challenges many companies do have on I .'LL speak for the telco space. They have a landscape of what you could consider edge data centers. There, the central office's, uh, extend out to the cell tower. These are pieces of real estate that they're trying to monetize, and but what comes with that are the constraints and the variability from site to site regulation requirements, cost of construction, labor flavor rates. You know, whether it's union or not. >> There's just a tremendous amount of variability. The end of the >> day where Dell comes in and helps is one week. We are a great thickener of things because we can. We can I would say force. But really, it's enable the discussion between the and the facility teams. We do have that understanding, and we are looking at it objectively through both of those lenses at the end of the day, creating a cost model, something that customers can use to look att, tradeoffs, locations, types of technology. Looking at those trade offs to help them make decisions is we're spending a lot of our time doing. It's a real cultural dichotomy. You've got the, you know, technology team, trying to move fast and break things. You got the facilities and let's keep it stable and safe, and they're both critical. They were absolutely both critical on They have deep ownership and governance on those respective sides of the business. And so these edge data centers the part of the world that I own. It really forces that discussion happen. It's the collision between it and facilities where those decisions have to be made in a real estate level, a ten infrastructure facility level and at a ninety networking security level on all those things have to be understood and accomplished, solved at the same time >> and quickly. They don't have the luxury of time to really sit and battled this, you know, swan it back and forth like a tennis match. >> They don't I will say that >> majority the industry right now, this is a big play for them. You can't push all of your chips in without having a lot of this information. So what we're seeing is a lot of I would call crawl, walk, run where they are starting with modeling techniques. Then they're going with proof of concepts to test out. What does this mean from a non pecked standpoint? What does this mean from a Catholics? How much I'm going have to spend visit scale, you know, from one to a thousand or ten thousand? And so getting this data and helping them build the models to help them understand that allows him to plan big and understand what they need to do at a higher level? >> Wow. Along with my co host, stew Minutemen. We're joined by Caitlin Gordon. She is the VP product marketing at Delhi Emcee. Thanks so much for coming back on the cute Kate. I >> know This is so nice. Maybe we'LL have to make it three days in a row. >> I would we would love that. All right, so the last year at this very comforted you lunch power, Max, what's Tet Walker viewers through Sort of. The new capability is the latest and greatest. What's going on with power Max this year? >> Yeah, My favorite thing to talk about his power, Max. So we couldn't miss that today. Yeah, So a couple of updates in the Power Mac's front couple on the software side and then on more on the hardware side as well. S o from ah software side. We've got a couple pieces, which is a lot of our customers, really starting with the largest of our customers, are looking to add more automation into their data centers, and storage is no exception. And how do I automate some of those storage work clothes? Teo, make things run more seamlessly, get into more of a cloud operating model. So we had a couple of announcements on that front. We have a new V R. Oh, plug in, um, to automate work clothes through the r o A. CZ. Well, as ants will play books coming this summer, a couple important automation hand spins and obviously a lot more to come there in the future. The other one in a similar vein, is that containers, right. We've seen the increase adoption of container. So, um, and that the container is being used in production applications means that external storage is actually become a reality in that world, and the support for a C. S. I plug in on power Max, is something that we're seeing more interest from. So we have announced that's coming this summer as well. >> So, Caitlyn, I remember a year ago when Power Mask got announced. I heard things like intelligence and automation. And I went to add non, you know who's been working on this kind of technology for decades? Is that non how we've been talking about this for decades? Tell me why it's different and he lit up like I hadn't seen him in awhile, told me, What's going on for I want you to connect now a year later is what's this mean for customers? What does that automation? You know, an intelligence mean, is there a certain KP eyes or hero metrics who have is two customers using this today that they couldn't have done? And with you, no last generation intelligence storage? >> Yeah. Hey, think about it. It's really about moving to this concept of the Autonomous Data center. And how does this become an autonomous storage system? So both the intelligence within the system that we talked about last year and the decisions that the system is making itself every single day all by itself, that's that has really changed. And it's a completely new evolution of its making billions of decisions a day for customers so they don't have to do that means you're gonna have fewer people managing storage and they can invest in other things. Then when you move that up the stack, some of that the bureau, the answer will play books really enables you to then automate more of the work flows within that so again gets you more into that operating model, and you can automate not just the storage infrastructure, but then get to this autonomous data center >> So way talk to Travis briefly about Dev ops and you're mentioning answerable playbooks. You know, for years we've been talking to customers and saying, Okay, we we need to get two more agile environments, you know, Dev ops there, but enterprise storage specifically, there's a little bit slowed up, so it sounds like we're starting to get to greater adoption. What? What, what what got us over that you know, Hurdle, and where our customers with it today? >> Yeah, and I think it's really the maturity of our largest global customers that have gotten to a place where, for the workloads that will continue to remain on these thes on from infrastructure on our purpose built storage on our high end arrays, they need to run that as efficiently as possible. Um, and a lot of the work we've done to build in a. I does part of that, but really, ultimately they're looking at in there. Three. Terek protector. How do they run things more smoothly? Um, and it's really our customers that have brought that us is a requirement, and we've been able to to support that. >> So how do you work with customers? Mean innovation is, of course, an underlying theme of this of this conference. Talk about how you collaborate with customers to to solve their problems and how you help them. Think ahead what their future needs are. >> Yeah, and certainly Travis, I myself, might our teams, as well as the engineering team, spend a lot of time with our customers in the briefing centre. A lot of in the field, um, really talking about their challenges and the privilege that we have, especially with something like a Power Max platform, is the customers we have. There are the ones that are constantly pushing the boundaries of what we can do for them today, so they always need the best performance. The best efficiency and what has changed is they also now we need that simplicity. They need that operational simplicity, even on their high resiliency. High performance systems. Um, and we spend a lot of time understanding those requirements on DH, the problems that they're trying to solve and how we can help them get there and that that could be automation that could be containers. But it could also be cloud right, And that's the other piece that we've we made a lot of investments across our portfolio is how do we support that cloud consumption cloud operating model, leveraging public cloud? Um, and and a lot of it really just comes from how do we help our oppressors continue to solve their problems? >> It's a competitive marketplace, and, as you said, customers, they want everything. They want efficiency. They want simplicity. They wanted to not cost them too much money. What what's your unique selling point? How do you message this is This is why our solution is >> that I mean, our overall strategy delancy from a storage perspective is that we're way. We'LL have a single product in each segment with which we've compete and each one will be architected for very specific requirements so that we can meet the combination of a price points and it features and capabilities across all these different perspectives and that each one of our platforms is designed to be industry leading in that category. Which is why we have power Max on the high end, the resiliency, that performance, the availability that you know, banks, hospitals, governments around the world expect. But the same time we have mid range pot for us. We have an entry platform that could be sold for under twenty five thousand dollars, right and has a different set of requirements. We have the unstructured business, which is supporting the data. Aaron. That data explosion in a file data, Um, so the The fact is the matter is this. That is all about having the right actor architecture's so customers can have the data in the right place at the right time with the right service level. Um, and that's why we have this portfolio and within each portfolio that were leading in each one of those categories, That's kind of the bigger perspective we have on it. We do not just have a hammer. Not everything is a nail for us. Um, and that's an important part of how we can partner with with our customers to help themselves. Not one challenge, but all the challenges they have >> killing one of the interesting shifts we saw the show is clouds being talked at more than ever at this show. One of the earlier segments we had on we talked about the cloud enabled infrastructure. So things like power, Max, you know, I asked J. Crone, you know, tell me why this is cloud watching, and he gave me a good answer. What I want to ask you your angle on is when you talk to customers, you know how to storage fit into the overall discussion of their cloud strategy. You know what, some of the key business drivers and you know how how's Del technology? >> And I'm glad you said that because Jay and I have had this cloud washing conversation as well as I think that's the unfortunate thing in the reality in the market in the past, probably ten years is a lot of cloud washing, and where we're really focused today is, and we talked a little about this yesterday as well as they say. There's one piece of the how do we fit into overall Del technologies cloud strategy with the Del Tech Cloud. I'm in the VCF integration. We kind of covered that the other pieces that when we look at cloud enabled infrastructure, we're focused on solving really specific use cases that we hear our customers trying to solve today of connecting that data center into a public cloud. So that could be what we call cloud connected systems. The tearing of data from your own promises, infrastructure into the public cloud. Really, that's more of an archiving. This case, a kind of a tape replacement use case that could be dead, remain cloud tear, cloud tearing cloud pools. All the different pieces we have there could be CLO Data Services, right. Offering storage Data services is in a public cloud. Unity Cloud Edition will be one or the New Delhi emcee. Cloud storage services could be another one or even that cloud data insights piece of it. So it's really about solving that solving real challenges about disaster recovery Analytics in the cloud. How do you do that? In a really impactful way? That's simple and easy for customers. >> Yeah, the other Claude related thing wanted to get your take on is many of solutions. I heard on there is, you know, it's VX rail underneath. It's VX rail underneath. It's VX rail under >> you. Notice that >> I did, and you know a way. We had a number of people. V X ray. Lt's doing great, but, you know, if you talk about cloud and the infrastructure that I have in my data center, you know, we've talked Teo, talk to Dell for years. You know, the new power Max last year is underneath some of those admire. Where does that fit in? Kind of CIA and cloud, you know, infrastructure piece. >> Yeah, in a lot of different places. And for Roddy, for reasons, right? Some of us just the high value workloads you need. The scalability, the resiliency, the performance you need the ability to scale your computing your capacity separately. You want to be able to consolidate not just your applications, but actually all your file and sew something like unity or even power. Max, you can have your block workloads and your file workloads there. So we have a lot of customers looking to use traditional three tier architecture, but leverage that in a true cloud operating model from an automation standpoint, cloud consumption model, but also leveraging public cloud computing, right, leveraging the public cloud and really impactful ways, for example, for disaster recovery, eh? So it's really that combining what people love about our industry leading best of reed storage. Um, with that agility of the public cloud is a combination that we certainly hear a lot from our customers of How can I make the best use of clouds? Everyone walks in and say that club first strategy, but it's really about well, how do you actually think about data first and then how do you have a cloud strategy that supports that? >> So So let's talk about the future. I mean, ahs, You said This is what the customer is thinking about right now, but it's your job to think ahead and make sure that you are giving them solutions that fit their future need. So what are you thinking about the solutions that are available today that were really unimaginable five years ago. I think about ahead to twenty twenty five when there is enough data to fill the Empire State Building thirteen times over. How are you helping companies manage the tsunami of data? >> Yeah, and I think part of that is really about again the operations we talked about. Part of that really just comes back to having the right architecture for that type of workload. So this is where I salon actually well before the data era actually was designed for this specifically. So Iceland, created in the early two thousand's, was designed of one file system from terabytes and two petabytes. A single administrator can manage now up to fifty eight petabytes in a single file system. That's game changing when you think about the scale that we're seeing today. So the reason we went to that capacity isn't certainly just cause we thought we could. It was cause our customers were asking for it. Is these workloads in that data that we're talking about autonomous driving center that are just driving the scale? Ability limits, And they're asking for more and more in the most efficient floor print possible. And if you think about that, especially even in the cloud context, there's a There's a combination of How do you leverage that in the in the data center right? And physics means you can't get it up into the cloud necessarily. Um, but then also, there are use cases. They're like analytics of How do you leverage public cloud computing? But then you have that industry leading scale out now, as on the from the storage side so you can combine that. So you talk about something that we talked about here last year, and now we're talking about it a little bit more as well as our integration with Google Cloud platforms. So a lot of our customers are looking to use G. C p for compute for analytics workloads on DH. It's really almost rent your compute for analytics, but you have to have the right storage platform with the right architecture on the back end of that. So what we've done is fully integrated. Iceland, uh, platform and file system through G C P portal. So you could actually combine that public hug, compute and that file system that can support that type of scale. So it's a really unique combination that can help support not only the scale of that data, but also that some of the unique use cases and work loads that are coming out of that >> So Caitlin lot of products here that that would be talking about. Last thing I want to ask is customer customer conversation you have, you know, is data the center of the challenge and opportunity. They have something else that kind of bubbling up. As you look across the conversations you're having that you could have your audience. >> I think at the center of what I hear from customers, Data's in there, but they don't come in saying its data, right? They'll come in thinking about, you know, just trying to figure out how to use cloud properly there. Think about how Doe I simplify things. How do I, um, operate in a way to meet the service levels with a budget that's definitely not getting bigger? Um, and really be as efficient as possible. And it's not, um, some people are looking to go public. Cloud thinking. It's an easy button are there, but it's it's really about How do we change things? Teo run more efficiently and customers inherently to understand, right that the data is at the center of it, and that's increasingly the most valuable asset in the organization. And then they need to optimize their infrastructure to support that, so it really does come down to what? What can we help them to simplify? Optimize. Secure that so that they can truly unlock that. He is a senior director primary storage marketing at Delhi emcee Thank you so much. Thrilled to redirect from Boston, >> the home of the universe, >> it's indeed well, we would say so so and so lots of news coming out this morning yesterday. Talk about some of the mean. If you want to start with talking about the storage platform, the mid range storage market in general sort of lay the foundation What you're seeing, what you're hearing, and then how the new the new products fit in with what with what customers air needing. We'LL >> break that a couple pieces. I believe that the mid range of the storage market is the most competitive. They're the most players. There are different architectures and implementations, and it's the biggest part of the market. About fifty eight percent or so so that attracts a lot of investments in competition. So what we announced today, it was the deli emcee Unity X t Siri's and that built on all the momentous on the success we had with Unity, which we actually announce basically the same conference three years ago. So we've sold forty thousand systems Good nowhere market leader, and the first part is the external storage market. It's declined, continues to be exaggerated. One of the Ellis firms predicted it wasn't gonna grow it all last year. Well, crew sixteen percent actually grew three billion dollars. It's with unity. Its original design points like the sort of Day one engineering principles were really around a couple of things. One was a true, unified architecture being told to do. Block storage, file storage and VM. Where've evils that was built in, not bolted on like no gateways, no extra window licensing, no limitations on file system size. The second was around operational simplicity and making it easy for a customer to install easier for custom manage. He was a customer of use remotely manage, and then we took that forward by adding all inclusive software, making it easy to own like not him to worry about software contracts. So all of that goodness is rolling forward in the engineering challenge that we took on with E x t wass. You know, a lot of mid range systems switch of those that have an active, passive architectural design. It's hard to do everything at once. Process, application data run, data reduction, run data services like snapshots of replications, all without significantly impacting performance. And a lot of cases, our competitors and other platforms have to make compromises. They say. Okay, if you want performance turned this function off. What was that challenge that our engineers took on? And that's what we came up with. No compromise for midrange storage. That's unity. Extinct. >> Yeah, Shawn, it's it's really interesting you could I could probably do a history lesson on some of the space thing back to, you know, early days when you know we were first to DMC. It was like, Oh, the data general product line. You know, getting merged in very competitive landscape is, as you said, most companies had multiple solutions, you know, unity in the name of it was to talk about Dell and AMC coming together, but what I want you coming on is there was often, you know, okay, somebody came out with, like, a new a new idea, and they sold that as a product. And then it got baked into a feature, and we saw that happened again and again and again. And the storage market, what are some of those key drivers is toe. You know what customers look for? How you differentiate yourself. Are we past that? You know, product feature churn way in the platform phase. Now, you know, we always say it would be great if software was just independent of some of these. But there's a reason why we still have storage raise. Despite the fact that, you know, it's been, you know, it's been nibbled at by some of the other, you know, cloud and hyper converge. You know, talk applications. >> Yeah. Uh, let's say that a couple ways in that, especially in the mid range. Our customers expect the system to do everything you know. It has to do everything Well, it doesn't get to be specialized for a lot of our customers. It is thie infrastructure. It is that data capital, which is the lifeblood of their business. So the first thing is it has to do everything. The second thing I would say is that because it has to do everything and one feature isn't really gonna break through anymore. The architecture's the intelligence, the reliability, the resiliency that takes years of hardening. Okay, the new competitors has to start a ground zero all over again. So I would say that that's part of the second thing I would say is, it's about the experience inside the box from the feature function and outside the box. How do we get a better experience? And for us, that starts with Cloud I. Q. It's a storage, monitoring and analytics platform that you can really you have infrastructure insight in the palm of your hand. You're not tied to a terminal, and if you want to be, of course you can. But you can now remotely monitor your entire storage environment. Unity, Power Max SC Extreme Io. Today we announce connect trick support for sandwiches in VM support. So we're going broader and deeper, you know, as well as making its water. So it's hard to have one feature breakthrough when you need the first ten to even get in the game. >> Well, as you said, for for these customers, this infrastructure has to do it all. And and so how do you manage expectations? And how do you How do you work with your customers? Maybe who have unrealistic expectations about what it can do. >> Our customers are the best. I mean, everybody says it, but because they push us and they push the product and they want to see how far it can go and they want to test it. So I love them. I love because they push us to be better. They push us to think in new ways. Uh, but yeah, there are different architectures. Have differences. Thumbs Power Max is an enterprise. High end, resilient architecture. It's never going to hit a ten thousand dollar price point like the architecture wasn't designed. And so for our customers that wants all these high end features like an end to end envy me implementation. Well, that's actually why we have power, Max. So you don't want to build another Power Macs with unity. So while the new unit e x t, it is envy Emmy ready and that'LL give us a performance boost We're balancing the benefits of envy. Emmy with the economics, the price point that come with it. >> All right, So, Sean, talk about Get front from the user standpoint, you know, we've We've talked about simplicity for a long time. I remember used to be contest. It's like All right, well, you know, bring in the kids and has he how fast they can go through the wizard Or, you know, he had a hyper converts infrastructure. It should just be a button you press and I mean had clouded. Just kind of does it. When we look at the mid range, you know, where are we in that? You know, management. You talked about Cloud like you, you know, how do we measure and how to customers look at you know how invisible their infrastructure is? >> I think every I don't think any marketing person worth his salt would say, My product is hard to use. It's easy to use the word simplicity, but I think it's we're evolving. And again, it's that outside the box experience now, the element manager Unisphere for um, for unity is very easy to use with tons of tests and research. But it's going beyond that is how do we plug into the VM? Where tools. How do we plug? How do we support containers? How do we support playbooks with Ansel? Forget it. It's moving the storage. Management's out of storage. Still remember, twenty years ago, we helped create the concept of a storage admin. You know, things that coming full circle. And except for the biggest companies, you know that it's becoming of'em where admin that wants to manage the whole environment. >> Okay, I wonder if you could walk us up the stack a little bit. You know, when you talk about these environments at the keynote this morning, we're talking about a lot of new application. You're talking about a I and M l. What's the applications, Stace? That's the sweet spot for unity. And, you know, you know, you mentioned kind of container ization in there, you know, Cloud native. How much does that tie into the mid range today? >> Yeah, I think it goes back to that. All of the above. Its some database, some file sharing, some management and movement of work loads to the cloud. Whether be cloud tearing. What? Running disaster recovery As a service where you know you need the replication You just don't want to pay for and manage and owned that second sight in the cloud. We'Ll do that as a service. So I, uh I think it's again. It goes back to that being able to do everything and with the rise of the Internet of things with the rise of new workloads, new workload types, they're just more uses for data and data continues to be the light flooding of business. But it you need the foundation. You need the performance. And with X t now twice as fast as the previous generation, you need the data reduction with compression. Indeed, implication with extra that's now up to five to one. You need the overall system efficiency so the system doesn't have a ton of overhead, and you need multiple paths to the cloud For those customers that already ofwork loads in the cloud. No, they're going to go there in the next twelve months or know that they have to at least think about it and so that we future proof them across all boys. So you need those sort of foundational aspects and we believe we're basically best in class across all of them. But then you get more >> advanced. I want to get your thoughts on where this market is going. As you said that analysts that the news of its demise has been greatly exaggerated, analysts are just not getting it right. I mean, they said it wasn't gonna grow a gross. Sixty grew sixteen percent. Why are they getting it wrong? Are there and also do? What do you see as sort of the growth trajectory of this market? I'm not >> sure they're getting it wrong. And they may be underestimating the new use cases and the new ways customers using data What I think we should probably do a better job of as an industry is realize that there is a lot of space for both best of breed infrastructure and converged infrastructure and things like Piper converge. It's not an or conversation, it's an and conversation, and no one thinks that I love working about Del Technologies is we have the aunt, you know, for us, it's not one or the other, and that's all we could sell. We have the aunt, and that allows us to really better serve our customers because over eighty percent of our customers have both. >> So, Sean, you mentioned working for Del Technologies. There are a couple people that have been at this show for a while there. Like boy, they didn't spend a lot of time in the keynotes talking about storage. Bring us in a little bit. And inside there, you know, still a deli emcee. You got still a storage company. >> Still, you've seen the name isn't there very much. So you know that we wouldn't be spending all this time and R and D and you've heard about the investments we've made in our stores sales organization and our partner organization. You don't do those investments. If you're not committed to storage it, you know, way struggled for a while. We're losing share for awhile, but that ship has turned for the last four quarters. We've grown market share in revenue, but we're pretty good trajectory. I like our chances. >> I want to ask you about something else that was brought up in the keynote. And that is this idea of a very changing workforce. The workforce is now has five generations in it. Uh, it is a much younger workforce in a in a work first that wants to work in different ways. Collaborate in different ways. Uh, how are you personally dealing with that with your team, Maybe a dispersed team. How are you managing new forms of creativity and collaboration and innovation in the workforce? And then how are you helping your customers think about these challenges? >> You know, I, uh, maybe I can't write for the Harvard Business Review. For me personally, this is my approach that is one guy's opinion for me. It's about people like you want to manage the project, not the people I expected. I trust my staff, and they range from twenty two to sixty two to be adults in to get the job done and whether they do it in the office or at home, whether they do it Tuesday at two o'Clock or Tuesday at nine o'Clock. If it's due Wednesday, I'm gonna trust them to get it done. So it's, uh, there's a little of professionals. It does require sometimes more empathy and some understanding of flexibility. But I participate in that change to I don't want to miss my kid's game, and I wanna make sure I bring my daughter to the dentist, So I, uh, I think it's for the best, because we're blurring the lines of on and off. I could see again. I don't write for our business, really a time in the next few years where vacation time is no longer tracked. I don't think that far away >> a lot of companies don't even have it at all. I mean, it's >> just you >> get your work done, do what you need to do. >> So I love it because then we come back to being more of it. It's even more about, um, a meritocracy and performance and delivery and execution. So, uh, I think it's only the better and more productive employees, happier employees. It's actually reinforcing cycle. What I found, >> and that's good for business. That's a bottom line. >> Employees. You good >> for Harvard Business Review. >> So, Sean, last thing I wanted to get is for people that didn't make it to show. Give them a beginning of flavor about what's happening from a mid range to orange around the environment here and tell us, how much time have you been spending at the Fenway and, you know, pro Basketball Hall of Fame sex mons you know, in the Expo Hall there because I know what a big sports got. You >> are not enough is the first question, quite simply, the best mid range storage just got better now the market leader, when all the advantages, we have immunity. We just rolled them forward to a new, more efficient, better performing platform. So it's, ah, our customers are gonna love over bringing forward, and I think it's our sales. Guys will find it much easier to sell. So we're, uh, we're thrilled with today's announcements. I'm John for Michael David. Want Dave? Lot of strategy being discussed. A lot of new product introductions, availability of things and beta. Michael Dell on stage of Pat Nelson, You're starting to tell a lot of great things. Jeff Clarke, master of ceremonies and here with us, Matt Baker was senior vice president's strategy and playing. Works for Jeff Clarke. Re to see you. Thanks for coming on. >> Thanks for having me. It's great to be back. >> So you're the man behind the curtain for Jeffrey. You get mall. Who's their devices? You sending all the place? He's Tom Brady. You're Bill Belichick. I >> don't have my >> so pretty strategic couple years for del sure. So take a step back because you know one of the luxuries of doing the queue for ten years. As we get some one on ones with Michael, we seem in the hallways. We get the child, then he's very approachable. We talk to him before you went private when he went private or three. Dellums buying him. See? And then when he bought the emcee. So serious conversations. But it's always had that vision of scale. Benefits of that and the numbers were off the chart. People's eyes were popping out their head. So a lot of strategy coming in with the founder with the team pretty impressive. Take us through the pieces on the board, What happened, what didn't have and what could have happened and how it all transpired. >> That's that's a long journey, and it could take a little weight. And second, I think, you know, Michael is a visionary. He's always had a vision for something bigger and certainly the history of del shows that scale matters. And, you know, we we saw display out with our competitors and our strategy versus their strategy. They got smaller, we got bigger and you know, so we're sitting here today. Following all of those moves was a vision tio become that, as Michael would say, essential infrastructure provider and in addition to that not just the physical infrastructure but the logical infrastructure of the management of all that. So vision that Michael saw through to, you know, the acquisition of the M C along with the constituent parts that were the federation inside of there being bm where an opportunity to really bring forward a solutions powerhouse that was ableto address this broad challenge that our customers were having, Which is how do you manage all of this stuff? And, you know, putting a lasso around that and figuring out how to help our customers with what is becoming increasingly complicated. It's not becoming simpler. The individual components are becoming simpler, and that's our job. To make each of those elements more automated more, you know, easy to use, more approachable for more people. But ultimately, people are trying to achieve so much with technology today that you gotta drain away the complexity of that and bring a higher order platform and a higher order operating environment to allow people to really realize their goals. >> And one of the things that you've got to do and your job is you also got not only look at that but also cut through the hype. Sure, I mean how many times we heard the PC is dead. Many times we heard that if you're not here there, you're out of business somewhat true when you have transformational markets. But then the day that the value activities that they're involved in a company is pretty simple, they have operations. They sell a product, good or service. They give it to a customer, they collect cash. At the end of the day, this workload. So you look at everything all things being equal. This is a developer operational and a workload kind of challenge to do something. Certainly pretty much. It's so operation leads a big advantage. >> Well, I think that's what our customers are struggling with is that there are very good reasons to choose different operating environments. I mean, tohave things in different localities. Simply you might want to preposition content like you guys do. I'm sure somewhere behind the Cube is a cdn right for distributing content and so that service benefits from geographic distribution. But you shouldn't have to create a diverse operating environment in order to operate a geographically diverse environment. What we're creating is the singular operational hub for your entire environment. You can run workloads in azure. You Khun, run workloads in eight of us, you Khun run workloads in the four thousand VC PP partners that that Pat mentioned during the key note. And you could do that all through a single operational framework. I don't want to stay single pane of glass, but in essence, the sink. Thank you. Single operational framework that allows you to orchestrate and manage your entirety of your operations. Which allows you to choose the best horse for the given course. >> So strategy guy? Yeah, dial back a few years, even maybe before the acquisition. How clear wasn't you? Was it to you? And what gave you the confidence that acquiring Because you guys were quiz, It'd Dell was inquisitive, and I say a lot of them didn't really pan out the way you had hoped. And you're going to bring in this giant PMC cleanup. VM wears cloud strategy, leverage it across the portfolio. Really, Dr Scale Become that sort of arms dealer, if you will. Sure. What gave you confidence at the time or was it more? Hey, this is a great asset. We'LL figure it out. Can you share with us? >> I think you need to roll the clock back much further to the fact that We were partners for a long time with the emcee, and we were certainly one of the largest. And year by year, the largest or second largest partner to VM were. So we were incredibly familiar with one another and incredibly familiar with our capabilities. We were the early company that worked on. I can't remember what it was called. It might have been Oh, my God. I can't even remember the name of a guy. Integration. No, no, I'm talking about the early visa and implementations that went to market with Dell. Right? So we have been collaborating on hyper Converged. We've been collaborating on Cloud management. We've been working with the emcee years prior. In fact, some of the folks that are appearing on you know your show today. Our people that were my partners ten years ago at that Del. So I think we had the confidence and Michael certainly had a long history with with the organization. And I think he saw on opportunity that there was sort of ah, confluence of of opportunities around, you know, the markets, you know, our ability to pull a deal like that off. But I think ultimately Michael had the confidence that this was going to create a powerhouse and those assets were undeniable. And to some degree, what you were saying about, you know, the sort of these zero some assumptions is like Okay, well, software to find it's going to disrupt traditional race. To the extent that it's going to be, there are no zero sum outcomes in it. We continue on, and those markets continue to be robust. In fact, the storage market has been growing quite robustly, so sort of like this is a set up of capabilities that people need. We need to get bigger, not smaller. >> I buy that and I buy this not a zero sum. I heard Bill Clinton at Adele World years ago talk about how it's not a zero sum game and that I thought was pretty credible. However, historically the IT business has been a winner. Take most you know the leader gets most of the the prophet the second makes does okay and the third kind of barely breaks even. And there is no fourth, fifth and sixth. So it is sort of a winner. Take All are going to take most market, isn't it? >> I think to some degree, but it depends on how you define markets and Barney we all. We all tend to participate and find opportunities. Teo to move and cross into new market areas. Market extension is a a basic of strategy, right? Like look for adjacent sees expend. So there's plenty of room in this three plus trillion dollars market for us all to really participate. The job of strategists and business leaders is what air those best opportunities and how do we get after them? And certainly Michael is proven to be the strategist to figure this out. Like what? What? You know Dell's acquiring A and C. It's like, Yeah, way are you know that >> nineteen ninety billion You grew fifty fourteen percent last year. What? Yeah, >> it's always good that the founder around always great to have that leadership in the history. But one of the things I really like about the strategy that you guys are taking is one. I love the bigger scale leverage. I think that's right on the money. We called that right out of the gate. I'm here in the Q right when it happened, but there's nothing that's emerging. I want to get your thoughts on what? I see this clearly with Google. Google has a sorry sight, reliable engineer, and they run measurement for the massive interest for themselves. They're clouds. Not yet. Translating is no one's like Google, right? There's no enterprise that actually just Google, so it's like a tailored suit for one person. Google Operational Consistency is a huge message here. This year has been for a while. This is really important. I want you to take a minute to explain why that strategy and what the impact will be for customers. >> Yeah, well, I think that you just sort of it's the analog within our customers to what you just described with our business. Achieving scale allows you to accelerate growth. Achieving scale, innit operations allows you to achieve scale and accelerate. Your digital transformation is a customer. So if you're able to create the equivalent of these sightless reliability, in other words, creating a highly scaleable environment, there is no lack of demand, for it fueled innovation in any business anywhere today. That's why we're so bullish on the future that were in the middle of this massive investment cycle of digitizing codifying business process into application and growing the footprint and sort of surface area of all businesses. So if you're able tto create this consistent operating level rather than spending all day down in the plumbing of it all, automate that layer and then focus on the business value. That's if you go look through our studies around, you know, digital transformation. What our customers air doing. It shows that to some degree they face did transformation stall right there. They're like, How do I get everybody aligned to this tea? I've got the business increasingly were like You all need to come together as an organization and focus up and helping our people free up and scale themselves to get closer to the business and really be a part of that sort of strategic discussion for the company. It's the same thing it's achieved. Scale works everywhere, achieve scale, innit Operations frees up time and investment dollars tto help the debs to help the business >> rival revenue to drive revenue well, not justa cost issue. You take away that cost, which is a cost consolidation, cost, leverage, efficiency, et cetera. But the flip side is like Bank of America was saying on the keynote. They gotta know we gotta run their business and make money. So the APP developers are critical. Well, tonight could be a part of the revenue stream, >> and I think the sort of basics of it all is that this wee keeps throwing around the term digital transformation. But at the end of the day, people are codifying business process and their customer experiences and all of that into technology. And that's how they're delivering new business products, new experiences for their customers. You know, I have a branch list bank that I use, I have. You know, I adopted them because the technology was great, right, because their experience of banking through them is amazing. If Andre never >> they know you that its data model, that actually is not an account number and >> absolutely so I think that that's the point you're asking. Why is a consistent operating model important? It helps it achieve scale. And some people say, Well, it's all about developments like them. Look, it's the It's the interplay between ops and death. There's two words there. It's not know ops. It's Dev and Ops and Achieve Scale. You need operators who can achieve scale to achieve scale, you need consistent capabilities. Tooling >> excited. So what you're saying about revenue scale is really important because most big acquisitions, they talk about synergies. That's a code word for cut. You guys grew fourteen percent last year, so I'm sure you have, you know, costs energies. But they're our revenues, energies as well to your point >> and customers as well. >> I think we've just been successful, showing the power of the full portfolio and and that's turned into will make a bigger and bigger bets with you. And during the the Post keynote press briefing, you know, it was stated. Look, you know, people I don't necessarily want more and more and more more vendors. They want fewer more strategic vendors for certain elements, and then they want to look for new innovation in in other areas on. So I think that it's sort of we're benefitting from the fact that we are the company that you could turn to to solve this broad challenge of it, and then you can work with others around your specific vertical, what you might do. We've got a huge network of partners that we work with that can help customers with the spoke applications for their specific vertical health care retail. So on and so forth. So, yeah, I think we value chain in the valley. Twenty infrastructure >> suppliers to your point about that zero sum. Um, uh, thesis is not being zero. Sum is infrastructure loves automation. Automation loves data. So if you have an end to end architecture, you have better data. Correct. You have opportunities, you know, being around automation machine learning, too. Set the standard for the next layer >> up. Well, and that consistency extends all the way across. Right? So if I can create a consistent model, that model is also four out in the data. And then I can create a consistent engine to consume that data to Dr Automation that continues to add value in value in value. So putting that loop around it is hugely important to driving value for our >> customers. Do your kids play? Would you rather you know, they say we gotta like this Really? The hot desert or freezing cold, right. So, Matt, would you rather be a fighter test pilot or a college professor? >> You know, you must have read something from my Twitter feed. I would rather >> you gotta answer. Definitely. Fighter pilot. Fighter pie. Okay. How about would you rather be a professional hunting and fishing guide or professional ocean racing skipper? >> Probably the ocean racing skipper. Although I'd like to be closer to my family. Both of those. You're out out of >> the way with your top five jobs. >> That was Those are my theoretical jobs. I love my job. I don't want a new job. I love my job. In short, what's the core strategy of Adele Technologies? >> Well, I think it's to continue to drive value across the totality of this entity that has so much power. And I hope that's on display. An obvious to you both that we're really pulling together to create solutions that deliver a massive amount of value to our customers. And I think that's unmatched in the industry. With the cue, we're live Day one of our duel set coverage of Del Technologies World twenty nineteen student a menace here with me, and we're welcoming back a couple of alumni. But for the first time together on our set, we've got Terry Pellegrino, the BP of high performance computing at Delhi Emcee and Nick, who grew VP of Data Analytics and Cyber Securities just at MasterCard. Did I get that right? All right, good. So, guys, thanks for joining Suited me this afternoon, by the way. So we will start with you High performance computing. Talk about that a lot. I know you've been on the Cube talking about HPC in the Innovation lab down in in Austin, high performance computing, generating a ton of data really requiring a I. We talk a lot of it II in machine learning, but let's look at it in the context of all this data. Personal data data from that word, you know, it turns out do with mastercard, for example How are you guys working together? Dell Technologies and MasterCard to ensure that this data is protected. It secure as regulations come up as fraud, is a huge, expensive >> issue. Well, I think make way worked together to really well worry about the data being secure, but also privacy being a key item that we worry about every day you get a lot of data coming through, and if we let customer information or any kind of information out there, it can be really detrimental. So we've really spent a lot of time not only helping manage and worked through the data through the infrastructure and the solutions that we've put together for. For Nick, who also partnered with the consortium project that got started Mosaic Crown to try to focus even more on data privacy on Mosaic Crown is is really interesting because it's getting together and making sure that the way we keep that privacy through the entire life cycle of the data that we have the right tools tio have other folks understand that critical point. That's that's how we got all the brains working together. So it's not just Delon DMC with daily emcee and MasterCard It's also ASAP We have use of Milan, you're sort of bergamot and we'Ll solve the only three c and all together back in January decided to get together and out of Nick's idea. Think about how we could put together with all those tools and processes to help everybody have more private data. Other. >> I think this was your idea. >> I can't say it was my idea. The European Union itself with what? The advent of Judy parent privacy. Their biggest concern was we don't want people to stop sharing. Data began with artificial intelligence. The great things that we do with it from the security, you know, carrying diseases all the way through, making sure transactions are safe and secure. Look, we don't want people to stop our organizations to stop sharing that data because they have fear of the regulations. How do we create a date on market? So the U has something called Horizon twenty twenty on one of their initiatives. Wass Way wanted to understand what a framework for data market would look like where organizations can share that data with confidence that they're complying to all the regulations there, doing the anonymous ization of that data, and the framework itself allows someone to say, I could do analysis without worrying that if it's surfacing personally identifiable information or potentially financial information, but I can share it so that it can progress the market data economy. So as a result of that, what we did is we put the guilt. I said, This is a really good idea for us. Went to the partners at del. That's it, guys, this is something we should consider doing now. Organization always been looking at privacy, and as a result, we've done a very good job of putting that consortium together. >> So, Nick, we've talked with you on the Cuba quite a few times about security. >> Can you just give >> us? You know, you talked about that opportunity of a I We don't want people to stop giving data in. There was concerned with GPR that Oh, wait, I need you to stop collecting information because I'm going to get sued out of existence. If it happened, how do we balance that? You know, data is the new oil I need, you know, keep not flowing and oh, my God. I'm going to get hacked. I'm going to get sued. I'm going to have the regulation, You know, people's personal information. I'm goingto walk down the grocery store and they're going to be taking it from me. How do we balance that? >> Well, the nice part is, since State is the new oil, well, we considered it is artificial intelligences that refinery for that oil. So, for our perspective, is the opportunity to say we can use a eye to help. Somebody says, Hey, I don't want you to share my data information. I want to be private, but I can use a I d. S. Okay, let's filter those out so I can use a I'd actually sit on top of that. I can sit down and say, Okay, how do I keep that person's safe, secure and only share the necessary data that will solve the problem again, using artificial intelligence through different types of data classifications, whoever secure that data with different methods of data security, how we secure those types of things come into play. And again, there's also people say, I don't ever want my data to be we identified so we can use different methods to do complete anonymous ation. >> How do you do that when there are devices that are listening constantly, what Walmart's doing? Everybody that has those devices at home with the lady's name. I won't say it. I know it activates it. How How do you draw the line with ensuring that those folks that don't want certain things shared if they're in the island Walmart talking about something that they don't want shared? How do you facilitate that? >> Well, part of that is okay. At a certain point, when it comes to privacy, you've gotta have a little bit of parenting. Just because you have that information doesn't mean you need to use that information. So that's where we as humans have to come into play and start thinking about what is the data that we're collecting And how should we use that information on that person and who is walking through a store? And we say we are listening to what their conversations are? Well, I don't need to identify that you or you. I just didn't know what is the top talking about? Maybe that's the case, but again, you have to make that decision again. It's about being a parent at this point. That's the ethical part of data which we've discussed on this program before. Alright, >> so teary. Talkto us some about the underlying architecture that's going to drive all of this. You know, we we love the shift. For years ago, it was like storing my data. You know, Now we're talking about how do we extract the value of the data? We know data's moving a lot, So you know what's changing And I talk every infrastructure company I talked to, it's like, Oh, well, we've got the best ai ai, you know, x, whatever. So you know what kind of things should custom be looking for To be able to say, Oh, this is something, really. It's about scale. It's about, you know, really focused on my data. Yeah, absolutely. Well, I will say first, the end of underlying infrastructure. We have our set of products that have security intrinsic in the way they're designed. I really worry about ki management for software we have silicon based would have trust throughout a lot of our portfolio. We also think about secure supply chain, even thinking through security race. If you lose your hard drive on, we can go and make sure that the data is not removed. So that's on the security front. On the privacy side, as a corporation, William C. Is very careful about the data that we have access to on. Then you think about a HBC. So being in charge of H. P. C for Cordelia emcee way actually are part of how the data gets created, gets transferred, gets generated, curated and then stored. Of course, storage s O. What we want to make sure is our customers feel like where that one company that can help them through their journey for their data. And as you heard Michael this morning during keynote, >> uh, getting that value out of the data because it's really where that little transformation is going to get everybody to the next level. But right now there's a lot of data. Has Nick stated this data has more personal information at times? Andan i'll add one more thing way. Want to really make sure that innovation is not stifled and the way we get there is to make sure >> that the data sets are as broad as possible, and today it's very difficult to share data. Sets mean that there are parts of the industry there are so worried about data that they will not even get it anywhere else than their own data center and locked behind closed doors. But if you think about all the data scientists, they're craving more data. And the way we can get there is with what make it talked about is making sure that the data that is collected is free of personal information and can still be qualified for some analysis and letting all the data scientists out there to get a lot of value out of it. >> So HBC can help make the data scientist job simpler or simplify evaluating this innumerable amun of data. >> Correct. So what in the days you had an Excel spreadsheet and wanted to run and put the table on it, you could do that on a laptop for end up tablet. When you start thinking about finding a black hole in the galaxy, you can do that on tablet. So you're gonna have to use several computers in a cluster with the right storage of the right interconnect. And that's why it's easy comes in place. >> I mean, if I man a tactical level, what you'LL see with HBC computing is when someone's in the moment, right? You want to be able to recognize that person has given me the right to communicate to them or has not given me the right to communicate to them, even though they're trying to do something that could be a transaction. The ability to say Hey, I have I know that this person's or this device is operating here is this and they have given me these permissions. You've got to do that in real time, and that's what you're looking for. HBC competing to do. That's what you're saying. I need my G p you to process in that way, and I need that cpt kind of meat it from the courts. The edges say Yep, you can't communicate. No, you can't. Here's where your permissions like. So, >> Nick, what should we >> be looking for? Coming out of this consortium is people are watching around the industry. You know what, what, what >> what expect for us? The consortium's about people understand that they can trust that they're data's being used properly, wisely, and it's being used in the way it was intended to be used so again, part of the framework is what do you expect to do with the data so that the person understands what their data is being used for the analysis being done? So they have full disclosure. So the goal here is you can trust your data's being used. The way was intended. You could trust that. It's in a secure manner. You can trust that your privacy is still in place. That's what we want this construction to create that framework to allow people to have that trust and confidence. And we want the organization to be able to not, you know, to be able to actually to share that information to again move that date economy forward. >> That trust is Nirvana. He is the VP product Marketing Cloud Delhi Emcee and Moeneeb unit. Minute Soudan VP Solutions Product marketing at VM. Where. Thank you so much for coming on the show. >> Thanks for having >> thanks for having us. So we just had the keynote address we heard from Michael Dell Satya Nadella Pack Girl Singer It's a real who's who of this of this ecosystem. Break it down for us. What? What did we hear? What is what is sort of the most exciting thing from your perspective? >> So, Rebecca, what? What we hear from customers again and again is it's a multi cloud world, right? Everybody has multiple cloud deployments, but we saw that mentioned five on average cloud architectures in customer environments and what we keep hearing from them is they There are operational silos that developed as part of the to set the fellas that are different. The machine formats. All of these things just lied a lot of lead to a lot of operational silos in complexity, and the customers are overwhelming or willingly asking William C. As well as being Where is that? How do we reduce this complexity? How do we we'll be able to move, were close together? How do we manage all of this in a common framework and reduce some of the complexity? So there's really they could take advantage off the promise of Monte Club. >> Yeah, so many. The Cube goes to all the big industry shows. I feel like everywhere I go used to be, you know, it's like intel and in video, up on stage for the next generation. Well, for the last year, it felt like, you know, patent Sanjay, or, you know, somebody like that, you know, up on stage with Google Cloud of a couple of years ago, there was Sanjay up on St Come here. They're searching Adela up on stage. So let's talk about that public cloud piece China. We know you know the relationship with a wsbn were clad in a ws sent ripples through the industry on you know, the guru cloud piece. So tell us what's new and different peace when it comes to come up to public clouded. How does that fit with in relation to all the other clouds? >> Sure, no, I'll amplify. You know what Aaron said, Right? We think about customer choice first. Andrea Lee, customer choice. As you know, you got multiple cloud providers. We've seen customers make this choice off. I need to make this, you know, a multi cloud world. Why're they going towards the multi clothing world? It's because applications air going there on really well, where strategy has bean to say, How do we empower customers without choice? Are you know, eight of us partnership is as strong as ever, but we continue to eat away there, and that was their first going to choice a platform. And Patty alluded to this on the stage. We have four thousand cloud provider partners right on the four thousand block provider partners we've built over the years, and that includes, you know, not small names. They include IBM. They, like, you know, they've got in Iraq space. Some of the biggest cloud providers. So our strategy is always being. How do we take our stack and and lighted and as many public laws? It's possible. So we took the first step off IBM. Then you know, about four thousand. You know, other plot providers being Rackspace, Fujitsu, it's Archie. Then came Amazon. I'm is on being the choice of destination for a lot of public clouds. Today we kind of further extend that with Microsoft and, you know, a few weeks ago with Google, right? So there's really about customer choice and customers when they want the hybrid multi Claude fees his abdomen right. You got two worlds, you couldn't existing application and you're looking Just get some scale out of that existing application and you're building a lot of, you know, native cloud native applications. They want this, you know, in multiple places. >> All right, so if I could just drilled down one level deep, you know? So if I'm in as your customer today, my understanding it's Veum or STD. Sea Stack. What does that mean? You know what I use, You know? How is that? You can feel compare? Do I use the Microsoft? You know System Center. Am I using V Center? You know, >> shark now, and this is really again in an abdomen. Calm conversation, right where they were multiple announcements in here just to unpack them there. It's like, Hey, we had the Del Technologies Cloud platform. The Del Technologies clock platform is powered by, you know, Delhi emcee infrastructure and be aware Cloud Foundation on top, where slicing your full computer network storage with the sphere of visa and a sex and management. Right. And the second part was really We've got being where cloud on a deli emcee. The system brings a lot of the workloads which stood in public clouds. We're seeing this repatriation off workloads back on. You know, on the data center are the edge. This is really driven by a lot of customers and who have built native I pee in the public cloud beyond Amazon beat ashore who want to now bring some of those workloads closer to the, you know, data center or the edge. Now this comes to how do I take my azure workloads and bring it closer to the edge or my data center? Why's that? I need you know, we have large customers, you know. You know, large customers multinational. They have, you know, five hundred thousand employees, ninety locations will wide. Who built to I p or when I say I p applications natively in cloud suddenly for five thousand employees and ninety locations, they're going ingress egress. Traffic to the cloud public cloud is huge. How do I bring it closer to my data centers? Right. And this is where taking us your workloads. Bringing them, you know, on prime closer salts. That big problem for them. Now, how do I take that workloads and bring them closer? Is that where we landed in the Veum wear on Del, you know AMC Infrastructure? Because this big sea closer to the data center gives me either Lowell agency data governance and you know, control as well as flexibility to bring these work clothes back on. Right? So the two tangent that you're driving both your cloud growth and back to the edge The second tangent of growth or explosion is cloud native workloads. We're able to bring them closer. Your data center is freely though the value proposition, right? >> Well, we heard so much about that on the main stage this morning about just how differently with modern workforce works in terms of the number of devices that used the different locations they are when they are doing the tasks of their job. >> You talk a little bit about the >> specifics in terms of customers you're working with. You don't need a name names. But just how you are enabling the >> way get feedback from customers in all industries, right? So you don't even share a few as well Way have large banks that are, you know, they're standardized their workloads on VM where today, right as as have many Morgan is ations, and they're looking for the flexibility to be able to move stuff to the cloud or moving back on premises and not have to reformat, not have to change that machine formats and just make it a little easy. They want the flexibility to be able to run applications in their bank branches right in the cloud, right? But then they don't they don't necessarily want adopt a new machine format for a new standardized platform. That's really what Thie azure announcement helps them do, Just like with eight of us, can now move workloads seamlessly to azure USVI center. Use your other you know, tools that you're familiar with today. Already to be ableto provision in your work clothes. All >> right, so for and what? Wonder if we could drill into the stack a little bit here? You know, I went to the Microsoft show last year, and it was like, Oh, WSSD is very different than Azure Stack even if you look at the box and it's very much the same underneath the covers, there was a lot of discussion of the ex rail. We know how fast that's been growing. Can you believe there's two pieces? This there's the VCF on Vieques rail and then, you know, just help. Help explain >> s o for the Del Technologies Cloud Platform announcement, which is, as you said, VX rail in first hcea infrastructure with Mia McLeod foundations tightly integrated, right, so that the storage compute and networking capabilities of off the immortal foundation are all incorporated and taken advantage off it. In the end structure. This is all about making things easier to consume, right, producing the complexity for customers. When they get the X trail, they overwhelmingly tell us they want to use the metal foundations to be able to manage and automate those workloads. So we're packaging this up out of the box. So when customers get it, they have That's cloud experience on premises without the complexity of having to deploy it because it's already integrated, cited the engineering teams have actually worked together. And then you can then, as we mentioned, extend those workloads to public loud, using the same tools, the same, the MSR foundation tools. >> And, you know, uh, we built on Cloud Foundation for a while, and I'm sure you followed us on the Cloud Foundation. And that has bean when you know yes, we talk about consistent infrastructure, consistent operations, this hybrid cloud world and what we really mean. Is that really where? Cloud foundation stack, right? So when we talk about the emcee on eight of us, is that Cloud foundation stack running inside of Amazon? When we talk about you know, our partnership with the shore, he's not being where Cloud Foundation stack running on a shore. We talk about this four thousand partners. Cloud certified IBM. It is the Cloud Foundation stack and the key components being pulled. Stack the Sphere v. Santana Sex and there's a critical part in Cloud Foundation called lifecycle management. It's, you know, it's missed quite easily, right? The benefit of running a public cloud. The key through the attributes you get is you know, you get everything as a service, you get all your infrastructure of software. And the third part is you don't spend any time maintaining the interoperability between you compete network storage. And that is a huge deal for customers. They spent a lot of time just maintaining this interrupt and, you know, view Marie Claude Foundation has this life cycle manager which solves that problem. Not not just Kee. >> Thank you for bringing it up because, right, one of the big differences you talk about Public Cloud, go talk to your customer and say, Hey, what version of Microsoft Azure are you running and the laughter you and say like, Well, Microsoft takes care of that. Well, when I differentiate and I say Okay, well, I want to run the the same stack in my environment. How do I keep that up today? We know the VM where you know customers like there's lots of incentives to get them there, but oftentimes they're n minus one two or something like that. So how do we manage and make sure that it's more cloud like enough today? >> Yeah, absolutely. So. So there's two ways to do that to one of them is because the V m. A and L E M C team during working on engineering closely together, we're going to have the latest word in supported right right out the gate. So you have an update, you know that it's gonna work on your your hardware or vice versa. So that's one level and then with via MacLeod and L E M C. We're also providing the ability to basically have hands off management and have that infrastructure running your data center or your eyes locations, but at the same time not have to manage it. You leave that management to tell technologies into somewhere. To be able to manage that solution for you is really, as Moody said, bringing that public loud experience to your own premise. Locations is long, >> and I think that's one of the big, different trainers that's going to come right. People want to get that consumption model, and they're trying to say, Hey, how do I build my own data center, maintain it, but the same time I want to rely on, you know, dull and beyond Where to come and help us build it together. Right? And the second part of announcement was really heavy and wear dull on the d l E M C. Is that Manager's offered the demo you saw from June. This is actually the evolution journey of itself is where they used to be, like support systems. Now they become actually translate to business dollars because, you know, the first thing that your customer awful customer touches is an application and you can drive business value from it. My name is Dave Lan Ting here on Marlborough Studios with Beth failing. Who's the president and GM of the Delhi Emcee Data protection division. Good to see you About. >> Good to be here days. >> So the reason why we're here today is this is the third year you've released the Global Data Protection Index. We love data. We love to dig into the data. So tell us about the survey. What? It's about the size of the survey. Who? You? You're responding, so >> Yeah, absolutely. That survey talked to twenty two hundred decision makers globally and asked them questions to understand where they are in their data protection, implementations and strategy and how much data loss or data disruption impacted their business over the past twelve months. >> So when you do, these survey's over three years like you have here, you get a time. Siri's things start to, you know, pattern start to emerge. What were the key findings this time? >> There are a couple of really interesting findings that stood out one as we talk to the customers about where they were on their I T maturity journey, we found that the number of adopters people who were fully immersed in data protection when from nine percent to fifty seven percent. So it's a really big jump. Another thing we saw was the data they were protecting grew by five times over five hundred percent. So even though we know data is growing dramatically, it still is striking just how much it's growing. >> I've said many times that the industry, our industries, marks to the cadence of Moore's long You could come draw that out Logue Logue graph paper. But the Kurdish is shifting, its becoming more exponential, certainly non linear, so that that data growth is even surprising to me on but relates to the cost of downtime and the impact of disruption. There's a data in here wanted to share that with us, >> and it's pretty striking. The number of customers that were not able to recover their data after disruption grew from fourteen to twenty seven percent, and the level of cost is growing as well. The average impact of a data disruption event is half a million dollars, but if you're not able to recover your data, understandably, it's almost twice that. >> So you know it's complexity is growing, and to me, this really talks to digital transformation >> of >> the way in which people are using data and differentiating from what they've done in the past. It dramatically increases their risk because the data value is so high. >> And the study shows that companies that have gone through a digital transformation and clearly leveraging the data as an asset are too times more profitable than companies that have not data matters. More and more people are realizing that the flip side of that coin is then the cost and the impact. Your business, if you do have a disruption or a data loss, is that much more significant. >> Historically, we've had these silos of applications that have infrastructure that's hardened and fossilized around them, and increasingly, we're sharing more data across those applications. You know, Cloud, which we'LL talk about, is is really accelerating some of those transformations and so you have more and more complexity. We live in a multi vendor world because people want best of breed. They want horses for courses, but it adds a layer of complexity to the process. What did the survey tell you? >> And first off, the average is three data protection vendors per respondent. That's consistent with where we were two years ago. But what we see also Mohr dramatically is that the likelihood of not being able to recover your data after a winsome or attack if you're using multiple vendors is two times is high. So as the threats are maturing, the need for us to be able to protect ourselves and our company's from those threats needs to mature as well. And the data seems to show that having three vendors may not be the best way to be responding to this increasingly risky world. >> So that's interesting that you talk about now. Some of the challenges that were brought forth in the study always wanna ask that in the study like this, there were three big ones that stood out. Cost is always top of mind. The right technical fit on DH, then gpr Compliance is another factor. What's the data show in terms of those challenges? >> So the top three you really hit them I won was the ballooning cost and complexity. Another was the need. Thio adhere to compliance, and then the third was the need to ensure that you have data protection that covers the emerging technologies, the emerging strategies. >> So we talked about multi vendor adds complexity as cost a cz risk and just talk about the challenges. What is delle AMC doing to address these challenges? What gives you confidence that you can earn the right to stay at the table? >> Yeah, eso were first are very proud of the legacy of data protection experience that we have and what we've learned in what we helped our customers do as part of that legacy. We've protected tens of thousands of customers around the globe for for decades. But what we're doing now is modernizing our capabilities, insuring that we're protecting the multi cloud environments, the new, the new types of applications, making SNU simple products like the idea so that customers can take that confidence they have in us and bring it forward with them into the next decade. >> I'm interested in how people are leveraging the club for data protection and also what Delhi emcee strategy is there because, you know, own a public cloud your relationships with with public cloud providers. But what is your strategy there and our people reverse? How are people using the cloud for data protection. And what is your strategy? There >> are strategies to provide the best global multi cloud data protection that anybody delivers in the world. And when we do that would providing all the use cases that customers are using for the data protection. One interesting fact from the survey. It was those customers who have adopted a cloud technology. Ninety eight percent of them are leveraging that technology for data protection. In those use cases, they're evolving beyond just backup. Beyonce cuse me beyond just long term retention archive to include backup replication, data protection for the cloud workloads. We're really doing a lot to make sure we keeping up with that very dynamic market. >> The people want to get more out of their their backup in data protection than just insurance. We've talked about this a lot, just in terms of leveraging analytics and ransomware etcetera. D are bringing that together on so forth. But I want to continue on the discussion of cloud because I talked about you have some relationship specifically and mentioned it, but VM wear and eight of us every relationship. But you have to have a portfolio you can't just put all your legs in one cloud basket. What's your strategy >> and the importance of enabling customers to leverage a W eso, Google, IBM or Azure? For a PJ colleagues, Alibaba is very essential for us, and we think it's even more important that you have a standard data protection strategy. When you're leveraging multiple cloud vendors and distributing your day birth date over more and more locations, it's even more important that you have avenged. You can count on and trust to bring our there together to a single data. Protections to allergy. >> One of things I like about service like this, especially over time. You can get a sense of the maturity model, you know, however you define it. Laggards, evaluators, adopters and leaders is always your consistent on how you ask that question. You can get a time Siri's and see how things are shifting. So there's, ah, question a slide in the study that talks about that. What did you find in terms of the adoption? >> And I hinted at this at the beginning, but I find this to be one of the most striking findings from the survey. The number of respondents that fell into the category of laggards not really putting a lot of thought at all into data protection shrank from thirty eight percent to two percent. So that's massive in two years. And on the flip side of that, the number of vendors who the number of professionals who were now considered a doctor's had gone from nine percent to fifty seven percent. So we really are seeing a massive shift in the number of companies that are now focused on data protection as a core part of their strategy. >> In my view, that's because of the digital transformation that's going on is more than just the buzzword. Every CEO is trying to get digital, right? Yeah. So just to summarize. So data is growing in this non running a fashion that we talked about that's driving up costs and cumbersome costs of disruption. Cost of downtime is growing. Even the best of breed leaders are struggling to keep up. The pace of innovation is so fast. If you're not figuring out how to monetize your data in some way, shape or form, and I don't mean selling your data, we're talking about how levitate it contributes to the monetization business. Cutting costs are increasing revenue and in some way, shape or form. If you're not doing that, then you're in trouble. I'm gonna come back and ask you again. What gives you confidence? That Delhi M. C. Is going to be the preferred supplier we heard about multiple vendors is problematic. So how are you gonna win in this game? >> One thing is making sure that we're building our business strategy on wheel data like this survey. So we're staying on top of what's happening in our customers world, and we're modernizing our products in a portfolio to meet those needs in the second is building on the legacy of the I T. Infrastructure that we've protected for many, many decades. We have the trust, We have the architecture, we have the performance. We have the best day cost to protect. And now we're bringing in modern, simple multi cloud data protection. We're on this and we're going to win. >> So surveys like this are they're big, they're expensive.
