>>Hey everyone. Welcome back to the cube. Lisa Martin here with Dave ante, we're covering snowflake summit 22. This is Dave two of our wall to wall cube coverage of three days. We've been talking with a lot of customers partners, and we've got some more partners to talk with us. Next. Informatica two of our guests are back with us on the program. Rick TA Daniels joins us the G P global ecosystems and technology at Informatica and Peter COO vice president and chief strategist banking and financial services. Welcome guys. >>Thank you guys. Thanks for having us, Peter, >>Talk to us about what some of the trends are that you're seeing in the financial services space with respect to cloud and data and AI. >>Absolutely. You know, I'd say 10 years ago, the conversation around cloud was what is that? Right? How do we actually, or no way, because there was a lot of concerns about privacy and security and so forth. You know, now, as you see organizations modernizing their business capabilities, they're investing in cloud solutions for analytics applications, as well as data data being not only just a byproduct of transactions and interactions in financial services, it truly fuels business success. But we have a term here in Informatica where data really has no value unless it's fit for business. Use data has to be accessible in the systems and applications you use to run your business. It has to be clean. It has to be valid. It has to be transparent. People need to understand where it comes from, where it's going, how it's used and who's using it. It also has to be understood by the business. >>You can have all the data in the world and your business applications, but people don't know what they need it to use it for how they should use it. It has no value as well. And then lastly, it has to be protected when it matters most what we're seeing across financial services, that with the evolution of cloud now, really being the center of focus for many of the net new investments, data is scattered everywhere, not just in one cloud environment, but in multiple cloud environments, but they're still dealing with many of the on premise systems that have been running this industry for many, many years. So organizations need to have the ability to understand what they need to do with their data. More importantly, tie that to a measurable business outcome. So we're seeing the data conversation really at the board level, right? It's an asset of the business. It's no longer just owned by it. Data governance brings both business technology and data leaders together to really understand how do we use manage, govern and really leverage data for positive business outcomes. So we see that as an imperative that cuts across all sectors of financial services, both for large firms, as well as for the mid-market so >>Quick follow up. If I, may you say it's a board level. I totally agree. Is it also a line of business level? Are you seeing increasingly that line of businesses are leaning in owning the data, be building data products and the like >>Absolutely. Because at the end of the day business needs information in order to be successful. And data ownership now really belongs in the front office. Business executives understand that data again is not just a bunch of zeros and ones. These are critical elements for them make decisions and to run their business, whether it's to improve customer experience, whether it's to grow Wallace share, whether it's to comply with regulations, manage risks in today's environment. And of course being agile business knows that data's important. They have ownership of it and technology and data organizations help facilitate that solutions. And of course the investments to ensure that business can make the decisions and take the appropriate actions. >>A lot of asks and requirements on data. That's a big challenge for organizations. You mentioned. Well, one of the things that we've mentioned many times on this program recently is every company has to be a data company. There is no more, it's not an option anymore. If you wanna be successful, how does Informatica help customers navigate all of the requirements on data for them to be able to extract that business value and create new products and services in a timely fashion? >>So Informatica announced what we call the intelligent data management cloud platform. The platform has capabilities to help organizations access the data that they need, share it across to applications that run their business, be able to identify and deal with data, quality issues and requirements. Being able to provide that transparency, the lineage that people need across multiple environments. So we've been investing in this platform that really allows our customers to take advantage of these critical data management, data governance and data privacy requirements, all in one single solution. So we're no longer out there just selling piecemeal products. The platform is the offering that we provide across all industries. >>So how has that affected the way Informatica does business over the last several years? Snowflake is relatively new. You guys have been around a long time. How has your business evolved and specifically, how are you serving the snowflake yeah. Joint customers with >>Informatica? Yeah, I think then when I've been talking with folks here at the event, there are two big areas that keep coming up. So, so data governance, data governance, data governance, right? It's such a hot topic out there. And as Peter was mentioning, data governance is a critical enabler of access to data. In fact, there is an IDC study for last year that said that, you know, 80, 84% of executives, you know, no surprise, right? They wanna have data driven outcomes, data driven organizations, but only 30% of practitioners actually use data to make decisions. There's a huge gap there. And really that's where governance comes in and creating trust around data and not only creating trust, but delivering data to and users. So that's one big trend. The other one is departmental user adoption. We're seeing a, a huge push towards agility and rapid startup of new projects, new data driven transformations that are happening at the departmental level, you know, individual contributors, that sort of thing. So Informatica, we did a made announcement yesterday with snowflake of a whole host of innovations that are really targeting those two big trend areas. >>I wanna get into the announcements, but you know, the point about governance and, and users, business users being reluctant, it's kind of chicken and egg, isn't it. If, if I don't have the governance, I'm, I'm afraid to use it. But even if I do have it, there's the architecture of my, my, my company, my, my data organization, you know, may not facilitate that. And so I'm gonna change the architect, but then it's a wild west. So it has to be governed. Isn't that a challenge that company companies >>Absolutely, and, and governance is, is a lot more than just technology, right? It's of a people process problem. And there really is a community or an ecosystem inside every organization for governance. So it's really important that when you think about deploying governance and being successful, that every stakeholder have the ability to interact with this common framework, right. They get what they need out of it. It's tailored for how they wanna work. You've got your it folks, you got your chief data officer data stewards, you have your privacy folks and you have your business users. They're all different personas. So we really focus on creating a holistic, single pane of glass view with our cloud data governance and catalog offering that that really takes all the way from the raw technical data and actually delivers data in, in a shopping cart, like experience for actual enterprise users. Right? And, and so I think that's when data governance goes from historically data, governments was seen as an impediment. It was seen as a tax, I think, but now it's really an accelerator, an enabler and driving consumption of data, which in turn for our friends here at snowflake is exactly what they're looking for. >>Talk about the news. So data loader, what does that do? >>Well, it's all in the name. We say, no, the data loader it, it's a free utility that we announced here at, at snowflake summit that allows any user to sign up. It's completely free, no capacity limits. You just need an email address, three simple steps start rapidly loading data into snowflake. Right? So that first step is just get data in there. Start working with snowflake. Informatica is investing and making that easy for every single user out there. And especially those departmental users who wanna get started quickly. >>Yeah. So, I mean, that's a key part point of getting data into the snowflake data cloud, right? It's like any cloud, you gotta get data in. How does it work with, with customers? I mean, you guys are, are known, you have a long history of, you know, extract transform ETL. How does it work in the snowflake world? Is it, is it different? Is it, you remember the Hadoop days? It was, it was E LT, right? How are customers doing that today in this environment? >>Yeah, it's different. I mean, there, there are a lot of the, the same patterns are still in play. There's a lot more of a rapid data loading, right. Is a key theme. Just get it into snowflake and then work on the data, transform it inside of snowflake. So it's, it's a flavor of T right. But it's really pushing down to the snowflake data cloud as opposed to Hado with spark or something like that. Right. So that, that's definitely how customers are using it. And, you know, majority of our customers actually with snowflake are using our cloud technology, but we're also helping customers who are on premise customers, automate the migration from our on-premises technology to our cloud native platform as well. Yeah. >>And I'd say, you know, in addition to that, if you think about building a snowflake environment, Informatica helps with our data loader solution, but that's not enough. Then now you need to get value out of your data. So you can put raw data into the snowflake environment, but then you realize the data's not actually fit for business use, what do we need to do actually transform it to clean it, to govern it. And our customers that use Informatica with snowflake are managing the entire data management and data governance process so that they can allow the business to get value out of the snowflake investment. >>How quickly can you enable a business to get value from that data to be able to make business decisions that can transform right. Deliver competitive advantage? >>I think it really depends on an organization on a case by case basis. At the end of the day, you need to understand why are you doing this in the first place, right? What's the business outcome that you're trying to achieve next, identify what data elements do you actually need to capture, govern and manage in order to support the decisions and the actions that the business needs to take. If you don't have those things defined, that's where data governance comes into play. Then all you're doing is setting up a technical environment with a bunch of zeros in ones that no one knows what to do with. So we talk about data governance more holistically, say, you need to align it to your business outcomes, but ensure that you have people, processes, roles, and responsibilities, and the underlying technology to not just load data into snowflake, but to leverage it again for the business needs across the organization. >>Oh, good, please. >>I just wanted to add to that real quickly. Yeah. One of the things Informatica we're philosophically focused on is how do you accelerate the entire business of data management? So with our, our cloud platform, we have what's called our clear AI engine, right? So we use AI techniques, machine learning recommendations to accelerate with the, the knowledge of the metadata of what's gone on the organization. For example, that when we discover data assets figure out is this customer data, is it product data that dramatically shortens the time to find data assets deliver them? And so across our whole portfolio, we're taking things that were traditionally months to do. We're taking 'em down to weeks and days and even hours, right? So that's the whole goal is just accelerate that entire journey and life cycle through cloud native approaches and AI. Yeah, >>You kind of just answered my question. I think Rick, so you have this joint value statement together. We help customers. This is informatic and snowflake together. We help customers modernize their data. Architecture enable the most critical workloads, provide AI driven data governance and accelerate added value with advanced analytics. I mean, you definitely touched on some of those, but kind of unpack the rest of that. What do you mean by modernize? What is their data architecture? What is that? Let's start there. What does that look like? Modernizing a data. Yeah. >>So, so a lot with so many customers, right? They, they built data warehouses, core data and analytics systems on premises, right? They're using ETL technology using those, those either warehouse, appliances or databases. And what they're looking for is they wanna move to a cloud native model, right. And all the benefits of cloud in terms of TCO elasticity, instant scale up agility, all those benefits. So we're looking, we're looking to do with our, our modernization programs for our, for our current customer base that are on premises. We automate the process to get them to a fully cloud native, which means they can now do hybrid. They can do multi-cloud elastic processing. And it's all also in a consumption based model that we introduced about about a year and a half ago. So, so they're looking for all those elements of a cloud native platform and they're, but they're solving the same problems, right? We still have to connect data. We still have to transform data, prepare it, cleanse it, all those things exist, but in a, in a cloud native footprint, and that's what we're helping them get to. >>And the modern architecture these days, quite honestly, it's no longer about getting best breed tools and stitching them together and hoping that it will actually work. And Informatica is value proposition that our platform has all those capabilities as services. So our customers don't have to deal with the costs and the risks of trying to make everything work behind the scenes and what we've done with IDMC or intelligent data management cloud for financial services, retail, CPG, and healthcare and life sciences. In addition to our core capabilities and our clear AI machine learning engine, we also have industry accelerators, prebuilt data, quality rules for certain regulations in within banking. We've got master data management, customer models for healthcare insurance industry, all prebuilt. So these are accelerators that we've actually built over the years. And we're now making available to our customers who adopt informatic as intelligent data management cloud for their data management and governance needs. >>And then, and then the other part of this statement that that's interesting is provide AI driven data governance. You know, we are seeing a move toward, you know, decentralized data architectures and, and, and organizations. And we talk to snowflake about that. They go, yeah, we're globally distributed cloud. Okay, great. So that's decent place, but what we see a lot of customers doing to say, okay, we're gonna give lines of business responsibility for data. We're gonna argue about who owns what. And then once we settle that here's your own, here's your own data lake. Maybe they they'll try to cobble together a catalog or a super catalog. Right. And then they'll try to figure out, you know, some algorithms to, to determine data quality, you know, best, you know, okay. Don't use. Right, right. So that, so if I understand it, you automate all that. >>So what we're doing with AI machine learning is really helping the data professional, whether in the business, in technology or in between not only to get the job done faster, better, and cheaper, but actually do it intelligently. What do we mean by that? For example, our AI engine machine learning will look at data patterns and determine not only what's wrong with your data, but how should you fix it and recommend data quality rules to actually apply them and get those errors addressed. We also infer data relationships across a multi-cloud environment where those definitions were never there in the beginning. So we have the ability to scan the metadata and determine, Hey, this data set is actually related to that data set across multiple clouds. It makes the organization more productive, but more importantly, it increases the confidence level that these organizations have the right infrastructure in place in order to manage and govern their data for what they're trying to do from a business perspective. >>And I add that as well. I think you're talking a lot about data mesh architectures, right? That, that are really kind of popular right now. And I think those kind of, they live or die on, on data governance. Right? If you don't have data governance to share taxonomy, these things, it's very hard to, I think, scale those individual working groups. But if you have a platform where they, the data owners can publish out visibility to what their data means, how to use it, how to interpret it and get that insight, that context directly to the data consumers that's game changing. Right. And that's exactly what we're doing with our cloud data governance and catalog. >>Well, the data mesh, you talk about data mesh, there's four principles, right? It's like decentralized architecture data products. So if, once you figure out those two yep. You just created two more problems, which is the other two parts of the Princip four, two parts of the four principles, self service infrastructure, and computational governance. And that's like the hardest part of federated, federated, computational governance. That's the hardest part. That's the problem that you're solving. >>Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, think about the whole decentralization and self-service, well, I may be able to access my data in mesh architecture, but if I don't know what it means, how to use it for what purpose, when not to use it, you're creating more problems than what you originally expected to solve. So what we're doing is addressing the data management and the governance requirements, regardless of what the architecture is, whether it's a mesh architecture, a fabric architecture or a traditional data lake or a data store. >>Yeah. Mean, I say, I think data mesh is more of an organizational construct than it is. I, I'm not quite sure what data fabric is. I think Gartner confused the issue that data fabric was an old NetApp term. Yeah. You're probably working in NetApp at the time and it made sense in the NetApp context. And then I think Gartner didn't like the fact that Jamma Dani co-opted this cool term. So they created data fabric, but whatever. But my, my point being, I think when I talk to customers that are they're, they're trying to get more value outta data and they recognize that going through all these hyper specialized roles is time consuming and it's not working for them. And they're frustrated to your points and your joint statement. They want to accelerate that. And they're realizing, and the only way to do that is to distribute responsibility, get more people involved in the process. >>And, and that's, it kind of dovetails with some, the announcements we made on data governance for snowflake, right, is you're taking these, these operational controls of the snowflake layer that are typically managed by SQL and you, and that decentralized architecture data owner doesn't know how to set those patterns and things like that. Right. So we're saying, all right, we're, we're creating these deep integration so that again, we have a fit for persona type experience where they can publish data assets, they can set the rules and policies, and we're gonna push that down to snowflake. So when it actually comes to provisioning data and doing data sharing through snowflake, it's all a seamless experience for the end user and the data owner. Yeah. >>That's great. Beautiful, >>Seamless experience absolutely necessary these days for everybody above guys. I'm lisa martin, exciting conversation coming up about vaccine cloud management. I've got two guests with me, tim Elka is here, the sales and delivery director of IBM Services for Salesforce and fred Thompson joins us as well. The C. I. O. Of the health service executive in Ireland. Gentlemen, welcome to the program. >>Either I have to be here >>so we're very socially distant northern California UK. Glad to have you guys here. We're gonna talk about what the health service executive or HST and Ireland has done with IBM and Salesforce to facilitate vaccine management. But Fran let's go ahead and start with you talk to us a little bit about HSC >>So that the HSC provides public health and social services to everyone living in Ireland. Okay. We that acute hospitals community services nationally. We directly employ about 80,000 people and we fund a further about about 40,000 people. Um and our annual budget is slightly north of 21.6 billion a year. We are the largest employer in the state of the largest organizations the state. Uh you know, we provide a huge range of services right across the whole spectrum and we also fund other organizations who provide those services as well. So we would we would fund some voluntary and charity organizations and we would also uh by services from the latest A GP and other organizations as well. >>So talk to me about a year or so ago when the pandemic hit, what were some of the challenges that HSC faced and then when it came time to we have a vaccine, we have multiple vaccines that roll out um capability. What were some of the challenges that you faced initially? >>So from a an organizational perspective, um, there are, there were huge challenges in that. We were like every other health service worldwide facing uh, an enormous pandemic that was impacting on people. And this is all about people, it's all about people's lives. At the end of the day, people can talk about numbers and they can talk about costs and they can talk about other elements at the end of the day. This is about individual people's lives, their families and their communities. And for the HFC, our challenge was really about how do we manage to protect the totality of the population in Ireland as much as we can from, from the ravages of the virus. Um, and you know, the initial challenge we had was around contact tracing and managing that before a vaccine became available and once the vaccine became available it was then how do we stand up and national vaccine solution that we would be able to deliver and record vaccine to the totality of the population who were getting back? >>Yeah. So there was no pre existing vaccination program. Of course, probably in most places, you needed to get health care workers vaccinated ASAP. And it's also needed to be a national program. So what did you do next? After determining? All right, we need to work with some partners to be able to build technology to facilitate uh equitable, efficient rollout of the vaccine. >>So we did have regional vaccine systems and we do have a number of vaccine programs out there that were that were managing flu vaccine, heP C vaccine. But we needed we did we didn't have a national program and we needed to vaccinate people immediately. Um, and we also wanted to make sure that vaccine program was not dependent on the HSC infrastructure because, you know, we want to be able to vaccinate people in non HSC sites and we wanted non HSC staff to be able to vaccination. Uh, and we didn't want a huge pre dependent on our existing infrastructure. Um, so the first thing we did, we we looked at a number of vendors. Um, and we chose IBM as our partner with Salesforce. And that partnership is really a strategic partnership and it's a partnership that we worked through all the bumps and all the lumps of the program together. Um, and you know, and and there there have been challenges, but like it's too working with him and his team and through our team that we've overcome some of those challenges. Um, and like when we started off, remember the very first conversation I had with him as legislators, we need to vaccinate healthcare workers now, okay, you've got two weeks to start, um and we need to configure a system, get it up and running and to be able to um roll it out to the hospital And two. I'm very quickly then to all of our nursing care homes. Now, that was the challenge. >>And let's bring tIM in is this is a radically quick project from MPB to roll out in two weeks to talk to us about first about the IBM partnership with Salesforce and what you're building together. >>Absolutely. And it's great and Fran. It's interesting to hear you speaking about the run into this because from my perspective, a week before we all started this, we had a simple conversation called into Health Service Executive has some talking about some vaccination program, how can we help? And then within a week we've gone from zero to having how many calls with Fran and team just to understand and with the salesforce team to really understand how the 33 parties can bring the best of IBM, the best of Salesforce and the best of HSC in terms of the adaptability and what we need to get done to get those vaccinations up and running for the health care workers. Now, you know when franz said to me, we need something in two weeks, there was absolutely clarity. If you can't do it in two weeks there's a door, right? So we knew exactly the challenge and that's the kind of thing right before christmas that we were so fortunate to really bring in the team like everyone you think about this, everyone has probably the 14th of december, I was thinking of winding down thinking of having their christmas holidays and vacation time and everybody from the irish team and from the english team said no or cancel, christmas will cancel everything. So it's really christmas came early and christmas was canceled all at once, so and the key bit here, the strategic partnership is, I'm in the sales force have been working together for years and years and years growing out a partnership, we know their products really well, we've got huge capability in that space, but actually with the new health cloud part of it, the vaccine management parts are quite new to salesforce as well, only launched back in august september time, so it's quite new, so we had to go in together as a sort of partnership there to say to just get this done. So we had the best people from salesforce, I know the product, the best people from IBM all turning up on the 14th of december and saying right, we've got to get this done By the 29th with christmas and christmas holidays in the way the vacation time in the way, I think we have 36 hours of time off to eat turkey and fill ourselves before getting back to the wheel and really getting this done and to get I think was four acute hospitals we went into as of the 29th to start the vaccination program, so trying to do that, understanding everything is a compromise at that point, but it has to be secure, you know, this, this is, this is personal data going into these systems, so you can't forget about all the aspects, it's got this minimum but minimum with those kind of constraints as a health system. So it needs to be secure, it needs to also be that national platform going forward as well. So basing on a great platform like Salesforce, you know, you can scale out, you know, you've got those options to grow in the future, but yeah, not without a lot of challenge and then working out what's now getting to know each other, but if we only talked about twice before, we have to know each other pretty well now, um, but just trying to work out how we then structure, what's going to happen every two weeks afterwards, How is that going to move forward? We're going live every two weeks and we haven't done that now for the last three months, So good fun. >>So yeah, good fun. And but so much work to get done and according huge, coordinated effort in a very short time period, during a very challenging time. Talk to me a little bit about France, but you launched this um cloud management vaccine, Cloud management in january 2021 today to thank you. Told me one million people have been vaccinated so far. Talk to me about what the IBM Salesforce solution enables you to deliver to the HSC and to the irish citizens. >>So we have delivered a million vaccines. Okay to uh to stage is uh there's a dose one of those two for most people in Ireland. Um and there's about 720,000 people have got their dose one and the balance I've got, I've got the dose too, that's about sort of just about one in five of the population. That has to be that there has to be vaccinated. And one of these were very conscious of is that, you know, an organization is that we need to take a risk-based approach to this. So we need to look at the most vulnerable groups. There were lots of people who were dying from, you know, from this and they were all the a lot of people are elderly groups and people who were who were vulnerable with uh with pre medical condition. So our challenge was how do we, how do we vaccinate those people quickly and effectively uh and also vaccinate health care workers who are going to care for these people? Uh and and that's what we're, we prioritize the work. So we have to go into 50 acute sites, about 600 or so care homes. We set up a lot of what we call pop up clinics literally attended the in a location or we took over a sports hall or whatever we did. We rolled it out to the GPS to about 2.5 1000 G. P. Site. Um and all of that was being done while we were building the system. So we were, you know, building the system and designing the system on two weeks prints. We have to be agile way too quick. We can make huge compromises and we know that okay. I mean everyone wants a perfect system which is to make the compromise and look and see what you need to do now to keep the program running and how you manage that were, you know, Uh about 3000 users all to be set up fairly quickly or a little over between 1000 users so you can manage all that as you're going through everything. >>I think agile is the name of the game here. Tim talked to us about how you're delivering the agility in such a 10uous time. >>Well, we're all virtual which is added to the mix. But the funny thing with that agility, we've got a span of people across all the countries and everywhere that we can bring to that that party and we're running a normal but I was kind of a normal agile project except normally it would take 23 months to really get that team working effectively, getting to know each other and we just not had time to that to do that. So there's been a core team here and we're bringing in the experts around it. But really just everything is working with Fran work very hand in glove, trying just to work out what we need to do here to look at the next sprint, to look at the next go Live, to look at the compromise. How do we compromise for two weeks? What can we live with for two weeks? What's in the backlog for now? And Fran and I have many conversations, what do we need to do this week and then what's next week? And that's the level of fluidity And that's in part because of the way the pandemics and the response to pandemic is mapping out as we saw the vaccines are changing availability, is changing the rollout plan is changing. None of us have worked through a pandemic before. So agility is the name of the game at the highest level. I think we're all now very used to being sorry, there's a problem. Something's changed. Can we adapt the system to you know where normally in a sprint, I'd be thinking I've got some fixed requirements for two weeks. I'll build that and then do the next two weeks, everything is up for grabs and we're just having to maintain quality at the pace, the responsiveness and balancing it all as an IBM team and you think, and whilst we're also doing that on a platform that it takes time to configure and build these things as well. So it's some of it is you're gonna have to wait a few days. So sorry, you know, in a few days is really probably sometimes the maximum amount of time that can be, you can differ. But as Fran and everyone in the HRC and the, the national immunization office, everyone's pragmatic about realizing we're all in this together and it's really just being one single team, one unit working out and very open and transparent about the, after the possible >>we're doing something, go ahead. >>And we had a phrase, there was like, those are the pieces, we just just do it now and, and we did a lot of that. Okay. Um, you know, where there were things that were prioritized, we're in the middle of a sprint. Um, there were there were changes in the program or there were changes in how, how the vaccination was going to be delivered. Um, and we couldn't wait the week. Just it wasn't available. So we have this thing is just gonna do it now and him and the team, you know, drop what they were doing, you know, made the changes, we test them fast and we put them in and and that gave us then, you know, an extra time to actually then deliver the rest of the sprint and we have to do that. Several Okay. Several very, very late night to deliver >>and I imagine that's still going on. But to wrap here guys, amazing work that you've done together so far with the Salesforce vaccine Club Management rolling out across the HSC, you said one million vaccinations delivered many hundreds of thousands in the queue. I'm sure more iterative work and sleepless nights. But what you're doing for the country of Ireland is literally as friends in the beginning. Live coverage in Las Vegas for eight of his re invent 2019 R Seventh year out of the eight years I've had it, we've seen the rise and dominance of Amazon continued to thunder away at the competition span. Their lead printing money stew minimum in my coz right here next to me. I'm John, very extracting from noise. Our next guest, steam A lady who's the presidency of Aviatrix Cube alone was on Tuesdays part of our editorial segment. Who his company or one of his employees going to term. You take the tea at a cloud native cloud naive, which has been going viral. Welcome back to the Cube. Thank you. All right, so let's get into the aviatrix value. Probably wanna get digging more, but first explain what you guys do and what market you're targeting. >>So we do. I would say cloud native, not naive. Cloud native networking that embraces and extends the basic constructs the native constructs of the public clouds, not just a W s, but all the public clouds and builds a multi cloud architecture, networking in security architecture for enterprise customers that that delivers the simplicity and the automation that people want from cloud. That's why they want a cloud native but yet brings along the functionality, the performance and the visibility and control that they had on on Prem. So that kind of taste great less filling, not one of the other. Both. I want the simplicity and automation of anything that expect from the cloud. But I need that enterprise functionality that control the security, the performance that he used to have on Prem because I wasn't doing that for my own health. I need to bring that along. That's what we do. >>What main problem you solving for customers? What's the big pain point? So what are you enabling? >>The big pain point is the center of gravity, as Andy Joshi's talked is moving from on Prem into the cloud. So it's so it's no longer. I mean, data centers aren't going away. They're going to still be there. But the investment architecture is in the cloud and you're going to see the clouds start moving out with their their announcements. You see everything that outposts and on everything else they're doing is taking the architecture moving out. The problem we solve is A W S says to every enterprise customer. We will give you anything and everything you ever need from networking and security. You don't need anybody else. And so so what ends up happening is as enterprises. So for an SNB, that's great. If you've got a few, VP sees life is good. Use all the native stuff from AWS. What happens, though, is your Qualcomm or your USA or your new name it big 50 year old 100 year old enterprise. You have complex networking and security demands. You go to the cloud. There's so many limitations of what the native constructs of all the clouds could do. You start realizing, okay, I need Maur. And so we're very complimentary to AWS. We sit on top of that. We leverage those basic constructs. We program those contracts and then we extend that functionality to deliver the functionality that they need. >>That's awesome, stupid when I want to dig into that, but I want to first get to the hard news you guys have news here at reinvent? What's the big news story that you guys were putting out there? Two >>announcements and actually goes perfectly with the way the world's going and also with the embrace and extend of a W s. So the first is we introduced what we call aviatrix Cloud win. So they announced Transit Gateway Network manager with accelerated VPN leveraging global accelerator as just a way to bring in basically embraced branch offices into the cloud. So if you think of SD win in that market, if your if your center of gravity is on Prem in a data center on pls is horrible, you needed a better way to do branch office connectivity. SC wait is fantastic, and it's a great, optimal way to get back to that data center. Well, as the center of gravity moves into the cloud, their data centers in the cloud. I just need to get better optimal access performance in late and see into a W s because that's the center of gravity. So AWS with the global accelerator allows youto get on one of their 250 pops around the world as quickly as possible. So if you're in Singapore, get on that pop VPN in, and then you go across the global backbone of AWS all the way out to that BBC in Virginia. It's beautiful, because guess what? That is the most optimal way to get there instead of vpc to vpc across the Internet right on the AWS backbone. Well, Steve, it's fascinating stuff because if you look at the traditional network, it was I knew the knobs and how I need to get everything to work. But the big challenge for most network people is most of the network that they're responsible for. They can't touch it. That's right. They can adjust it. So are we recreating some of the environment? Or how? Because clubs supposed to be simple? Well, that's easy, but it needs to meet the enterprise requirements. Help that network administrator there there, sometimes going away to the cloud administrator. You still networkings tough and therefore, how do we make that? That's part of what we do is that's the other thing that we solve is people think they go to the cloud and they think, Oh, go build. I don't want to build anything. I want to consume. It's still difficult. We come in and abstract away a lot of the details for them such that we deliver that service on the cloud win. The other thing that we do again, back to embracing and extending. What do you What? What router is out in that branch office 87% of the time. Sisko, right? I mean, course it is. So the S D wearing guys will go in and say, We'll rip that box out and put in another little box like a 20,000 branches. I'm not ripping out anything, right? That's very painful. So with our cloud win, we can orchestrate and reconfigure the Sisko. All of our engineers came from Cisco. So any Cisco IOS router out there, we can orchestrate and reconfigure to set up the VPN automatically through our orchestrator so that when you don't rip and replace out that Roger that's existing there. So now AWS loves it because that's the last piece of friction. They want no friction, and it's always in that physical to cloud transition There. All the complexity is, and by enabling their network manager and an accelerated VPN and global accelerated to use the existing Cisco. Roger, that's out there. No one else does that Cisco doesn't do that. We're the only ones. So when you embrace a native construct, what's the native construct in the branch office? B, G P. And Cisco IOS. We embrace it and then and then enhance it and make it better. >>Are you only on Cisco about June 1st? >>Wait. Now it's just go. Francisco's 87% >>of every bridge your software abstraction software across. And you you basically change the game with SD. Win a little bit, you modernize >>It s t win is great for the old way of doing networking. When you look for the next five years, you're still gonna need SD went. It's a bubble market. It's like when optimization us riverbed. If when optimization is a great market, it was for a while, just like SC win. But that's kind of the old way. But Maur Maura, what you're gonna find is what Where my branches need to connect to is in the cloud. And if you do that, you don't need esti win. You just need better connectivity. Tate of us provide. >>I gotta ask you the question about the cloud naive because there's a lot of old school I t people who still think there's food in the data center. Still, action there on box makers are all in the vendor side supplying boxes. They're still want to supply boxes, right? So as those old guys and gals do their thing, they're stuck in their ways, right? That's friction. Total gas. He talks about the transformation as new leadership. What has to change in that old world? What should those C I ose and CEOs tell their their staff? And what should the staff do themselves? >>I actually think the customers air there. I think the vendors are that the vendors are the one that aren't They're the ones who are cloud naive. They actually don't even know what they don't know. The customers are the ones they say, Oh, no, And this is the whole shift that Josh was talking about business transformation. They understand. And they are bringing along all their people and they have some people that are probably further along and experts in AWS. But they absolutely number one requirement for them is we've got to bring along the people they don't want to leave them behind and say, You get to work on the old data center and these guys are gonna work in Cloud. They're bringing them all in. >>Talk about your customers who's buying from you? What's it look like? What kind of scope do you have? A customer base? >>It's funny. It's It's It's all the old networking guys. It is not. It's not developers signing that. It's it's It's old. I t. Now they don't want to do it the old way. They want to do it the new cloud way. But these guys understand BDP. They understand networking, and they're in charge now. And so it's like because it's gotten so serious for enterprises. This the networking team, the security team it is. It is I t that is running this, so that's a big company. Small companies, we get him. All right, Steve, I want to make sure I understand this because when I hear cod Native, I really think a lot about that application. Mind shift. Yeah, Micro Service is our protector, and that's on it for sure. Networking. Unfortunately, for the most part, it's nothing. Bites are going through the pipes, and I haven't really thought about that. So you know, it's not just because it's cloud but cloud native and therefore things like your container and doctors Dr. Rise thing. This is what this world is built for that your solution is solving for yes. So I'll give you a perfect example. So So we help. We actually helped a dhobi us come out with T g. W. Last year, Cheri, I found, was on stage with Day Brown and the networking keynote launching T g w whenever Great. Of course, before that, you were just doing bpc the vpc peering It was a horrible mess. So you need a transit architecture. So they came out with T g w Fantastic. So we embrace and extend T g w. So the problem is, they come out with T g. W. But guess what a Doris doesn't do. Don't propagate routes to spoke VP sees. Okay, so how did the routes get propagated? Well, you have a person. They need manual. If there's an update on the on from you manually update the routes. Well, that might work. If you've got three. VP sees again. You're an SNB. But I'm an enterprise. I got 3000 vpc That is not gonna work. So cloud native we are We are not just sitting on top of AWS. We are in the matrix we are in. We understand natively. So our central control, it will actually like we're not. There's no b g p running at that layer, but our central control it will push routes an update, routing tables everywhere. It needs to be learned. The routes from Amman Prem push it where it needs to be, and then everything automatically works. Yeah, it reminds me, you know, we had more than a decade ago. We went from all the north south traffic to the East west, propagated by VM. Yes, is an order of magnitude 8 12 and know that this cloud environment people can't do it. There's not enough people. I don't have enough man hours because the machine learning So here's devices need to be here. Another thing that's happened in guys is there is there is 100% of people in there in the universe that that that no cloud, that number's growing, but there's a fixed set. Everybody's going after all those people. You've got the big clock. They're all hiring like crazy. The vendors are probably hiring. You've got customers they're stealing from each other. It's very difficult to keep a staff. And so they look and they say I probably could figure this out, but there's no way I'm going to be able to operationalize it. There's just zero chance I could do that And there's just so much change. And honestly, they say it's a full time job just keeping up with what Amazon is announcing their get implementing. And so that's where they look and they come to Austin. They say there's zero chance that I can deploy networking architecturally without aviatrix >>on the network and guys because you and I always say the neighboring guys have the keys to the kingdom. They always have. I mean, people have tried to move the center of power away from the networking guys, But now, as the cloud gets the center of gravity, some of the power networking guys got to step up their game. But they don't want to rip and replace anything is as you went out earlier. It's complex, even pull one or two out. So the concern that I might have put the question to you is Steve. Great, great energy. But I'm really nervous that these routes are not gonna be. There's gonna be some coherency issues around updating routes because that's my number one concern. How do you guys solve that? >>Well, the one thing I've always seen, who's the worst? When? When? When most things happen, Who's the culprit? Human, right? It's always a human. Does something wrong. And so I would much rather trust some sort of automated software because at least if you program it correctly, it's going to do the right thing so way have not had. I mean, it's so >>you know what I'm sure is no issue there. >>Yeah, no, there's no issue, I mean, and what we do see, sometimes our people say, because there's a lot of people that are that are very smart, they get into the cloud and they are do it yourselfers and they love to go build, and they love the complexity, and they want all that they feel they feel like this job security and what we sometimes have to do is say you. But think about day to think about handing off the operations. You might get hit by a bus, and then your company is screwed, and you gotta almost get them enlightened to realize that they should be working on higher level things other than low level things. I'd say that's something that we kind of educate. People, >>houses Amazon there, one cloud of many 34 maybe one or two jazz. He said to me. You know, mostly primaries will be picked, probably Amazon. But in some cases, as you will be a primary less than that eight arrests. So multi cloud is the word that it was Something about an Amazon sees me loosening up a bit what it is, so they recognize it. What is multi cloud? I mean, what is really going on? I think >>I think if you're a small company, absolutely pick one cloud like for sure, right, like that doesn't make sense to go multiple clouds in your small medium business. If you're not that, if your needs are not that complex, pick one cloud right? And if it's a Toby asses the later stay with them. If it just happens to be, well, I got a bunch of credits and azure. Okay, maybe do them. I think. To date most people are picking eight of us There, there, there, there, The killer here. But when you talk to the enterprise, the real enterprise right that are just now moving into the cloud, they're all multi cloud Just had one today. Super large chip company down L a San Diego area. Guess what. Use it. All three clouds. I asked him why. Well, because we started in AWS. We got some things there we've got. We've got a bunch of stuff that runs and an azure with offers 3 65 other things that they dio and Google for ml and that kind of stuff. It runs better their enterprises. They're gonna pick where the workload run best, and they're big. And so they're gonna look and they're gonna They're gonna They're gonna elevate up building architecture that works across all of them. I don't think multi cloud means I'm gonna move this workload from here to here. That's never gonna happen. Maybe in 20 years. But I doubt it. It's just that the workloads heir destined, they run better on that and they're gonna focus on >>different park loads for the cloud that picked the right guy for the right workload. >>Yeah, and I'm so big and I require different companies and I get acquired. And and and And you got to think of the on Prem data centers eyes another cloud that's a multi. And then I go into Europe, and I have GDP are and I need another cloud. I mean, they're gonna have 45 clouds, and I don't think it's gonna be 20% across all >>that could be a power lot. They'll be more than 13 closets. Be specialty clouds a riff on this all the time. Well, Steve, I want to thank you for coming on the Q. Appreciate it. Give a quick blood for the company. How many employees you're gonna hire, some of your objectives >>growing fast. We've got over 400 customers and you ask one of our customers we've got customers spending millions of dollars a year with us all the way down the customer spending $5 a month. Why? Because of the wonderful thing of cloud they can consume. We've got 400 customers all over the world and even know who probably 300 of them are right. Why they go on the market place they go like this, they download. Maybe they come on drift. Ask one question. They launch and they spent $5 a month. I don't even know what they're doing. And eventually we watched their Amar are it just grows and grows and grows and grows. And eventually like, Whoa, Now you're spending 50 grand a year. We should talk. So it's kind of like how some companies used open source that ends up being our funnel a low friction zero friction High velocity Landon expand model. And then we have the traditional enterprises that you'd imagine every so everything in between >>your hiring, >>we're hiring like crazy, hiring a whole bunch of sales organization around the world.
