>>Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. >>Welcome to this Special Cube conversation. We're gonna unpack and have a casual conversation around the big news that VM Ware just announced the sphere 7.7 point. Oh, or V. Sphere seven. Chris Prasad, senior vice president, General manager of the Sphere Cloud Platform Business unit. Paul Turner, VP of product. Guys, we just chatted about the big news. Congratulations. Um, the bottom line, if I'm a customer, I'm moving into the cloud. I see this as really an either an enabler or blocker. You guys actually think it's an enabler? Um, I'm not saying it's a blocker, but as a customer, I just need to know, Is it going to help me go faster? I'm going cloud, Which means I've been told I got to get on the cloud you got Amazon might have azure or multiple clouds with workloads sitting around. I gotta pull them all together and make them work. But right now, I just got to get my operations cloud native necessarily kind of pressure point. >>Oh, for sure. One of the biggest drivers that you see happen in the industry right now is kubernetes. Why? Why is kubernetes taking off communities taking off because it gives you cloud independence. It gives you the ability to run with same operating model, whether it's in Google Cloud, Amazon's Cloud, Microsoft Cloud or any other cloud service. What we're doing with version seven instruction bring that same kubernetes cloud independent operating model directly in divisor. So now all of your infrastructure platforms that are out there, 90% of I T environments are all kubernetes ready platforms on. That's really powerful. So what we've done is just taken a totally different kind of, um ah, scope on how cloud should be Cloud should be any cloud. It should be independent of one particular flavor of it and on developers should be able to work then in a much more agile way. >>You just see, I've been following VM where you know my career since it was founded. And, you know, with the Cube coverage over the years is they see the innovation. You guys do a lot of great stuff. Of course, we keep on our teams to minimum. And David Lantz he made some good calls with these v san. We saw the early stuff with V Cloud Air Kind of saw that kind of going in this direction, But it's been really innovation going on around you guys. I'll see with NSX has exploded and V Sphere has been the core thing. As you guys look at the cloud model, you guys made some good moves with Amazon. I've always felt that you guys could be that Switzerland that that layer of connection points between as enterprise really moved from old way of provisioning, too much more seamless operating model where they have a deal with cyber security. They gotta deal with all the stuff that's going to come from APS that's going to come from the APP store. When you bought Hep D Oh, I was like, That's actually really smart move. You started bringing that cloud native vibe into V sphere, and that's what's essentially happening here. Isn't it? >>Exactly. This is like the the coming out party for that, like it's V Sphere having all the hefty oh goodness embedded in it. And what they would see is that because we have such a huge presence in the on Prem space, this provides the fastest bad for customers to get to the cloud. So today I mean this? I don't want this point to be lost on the today. You know, we are running the same VM Ware Cloud Foundation, our on Prem on Amazon in Google and many of the same code base. Same code base, right? It's the exact same thing. So now what does that give you as a customer? It gives you the same operational model across all these clouds. Because customers today, we thought that they're setting up set of processes and tools or Amazon. Then you go to Azure. You're doing a different set than their training people to do that. And, you know, you could get into compliance and other issues where things fall through the cracks. Right? When you do that here, the same platform you said your policies wants it applies to all the clouds. You can move your workloads between clouds, right? That's a V motion. Essentially, we don't know the >>last kept on that one, but that's ideal would be crippled >>today. It is happening today and we have thousands of other partners which are the tier two service providers who are all also offering that. So we have a huge grab off these providers are in which we live in the same platform. >>Yeah, I want to add something else, actually, to that as well. Which is? This is an open platform, which is really powerful, right? This is based on kubernetes for developers, which means you can run on the V sphere platform, and that is a hybrid infrastructure that is the most ubiquitous infrastructure out there. But if you actually want to take your application actually deployed onto a native application Native Cloud, you can do that as well. Um, and so it's very important for us to keep the platform open while making broadest available on >>Dev ops. I mean, first, I totally agree. I think open wins, But the end of the day, I think this operating consistency is a big story because it's kind of like nuance. But it is really the most important customers care about, because if you're operating successfully seamlessly across cloud, it's better. So the question I have on the Dev Op side because the dream has always been infrastructure as code. So are you guys there with this? Do you consider this V Sphere seven kind of infrastructures code from a developer? Is it all being taken care of. How close are we in your mind's eye to infrastructure as code. >>Now it's 100% there. I mean, we made the announcement around Hangzhou, which is a set off other products and capabilities that we add to what the sphere has and that whole stack. And the solution is for this targeted at the modern developer. So we have all the capabilities that the developers need to do infrastructure as scored, to deploy their applications and deployed across all these clouds. >>And I want I want to add to that the infrastructure as code really has two parts to it. We look at how do I provide the developers infrastructure's code, which is what we're doing with kubernetes enablement and we have our V San product is available. In fact, all storage services from V sphere available through that andare NSX services are available through kubernetes. So you've got full infrastructures code for developers. But infrastructures code also means how do you deploy large scale infrastructures and manage them as code? How do people actually manage the operations and the deployment of services? And so you're right in your admin team actually have a full layer of enhanced lifecycle management provisioning off configurations and settings across infrastructure. All of that is now managed, as >>that's almost under the hood kind of stuff. But that's important because networking is going to play a big role in all of this from a security standpoint and also compute storage. Pretty much looking, looking good, but networking becomes a huge part of what's under the hood. >>Yeah, I mean, look at networking is what enables us to connect all these clouds together, right? And NSX being the underlying platform for us enables us to have one single layer across all these clouds with the same operating model. So NSX is very critical. >>I want to get your guys thoughts on some little history lesson here or scar tissue, as we say in the industry. You know, I remember back during the Hadoop days, 2010 the big data movement hit, and it was just going to save us all. It's gonna be great, but what ended up happening was this very hard to stand up these clusters and what happened was the commitment the vision was there, but it was just really hard to manage and stand up clusters and hire people to do this. So it has some use cases, but it just really kind of fell down. We saw Open Stack have a similar trajectory where good on paper, things had used cases. But it's just so hard to manage the trends. We're moving very, very fast. Cloud was here. Cloud Computing kind of took everyone by storm and just got rid of all those things. And so they kind of dying. >>No. But if you think about why open Stack didn't go anywhere in the end, it's because of the operational complexity right? It took a lot to set it up, and he had essentially invest a lot more than keeping it running right. And then what we're doing is saying you don't have to worry about that aspect because it's built into the platform that you already know, right? So we have taken that complexity out completely, and so you just have this fear. The administrators know how to set up and run and do life cycle, and this year, and you get kubernetes, go >>back to my original question. If that's the case, which, by the way, I think that's the way to think about it. Then I found the customer acceleration. I can draft up with the movement of cloud as fast as I can Go is having any kind of blockers. >>Fastest lamb like cloud >>ran to the cloud >>and fastest fastest ramp to a cloud operating model, which means that all of your developers can now actually run as quickly as they can, building their applications independent of I t. In a much more dynamic way. So you want to move to that cloud operating model. That's why Kubernetes is so important on the infrastructure side. We've actually, of course, made it a much easier platform to manage. But but it's the agility that matters. >>You guys have done some great innovation. I think you've got a good ear to the market, made some good moves. Looking good. This is a great vision. I got to get your guys take on the edge. Big discussion. Five g. Certain years love that kind of vision. But the end of the day and edge. Now, if you talk about cloud operations, everything's an edge, right? So what does edge mean for V sphere? How do you guys look at the edge of the network. And as these applications with the sensors or whatever happening at the edges, How does this V Sphere look at that? How do you guys look? >>So, uh, for let me just I would say that, you know, we we have, ah, data center edge, right? We just think of it as, um, retail stores, Starbucks, right. They have a kind of a mini data center application running there. That's one kind of edge that people talk about. Then you have the kind of the telco edge, but a lot of the crossing of the five year data is happening, right? Where the cell tower, Selden. We're done. And then you have the devices. You just the cars, the You know what you have at home and we're not right. And then and we can play across all of these because we have the platform. I don't know if you know, but ah, v sphere, as the platform is, is embedded in many devices today. It's in the army. It's embarking leaders it. So it has a form factor that can live in all these devices. We certainly play in the data center, so we're well suited to play the >>piece for anywhere. >>Yeah, that is exactly right. >>I think we're already We're already at the data center edge, as we've talked about that is, it's a very common deployment use case for earlier versions of the sphere, and it will continue to be the value that you guys it's not not new at all. I think the telco edge is actually a very interesting one, particularly the five G switch over. So you know what's happening. There is. There's a whole radio access networks and you're looking at the V Ron as a big initiative there. Which is how do we bring virtualization as a service they're into into those networks? Container deployments becomes very important as well. So we actually have a platform with version seven that actually can give the telco edge and five G network deployments a much more secure, predictable runtime environment. So that's really powerful as well. And it's containers and VMS because many of those applications that are deployed a telco edge our container based applications. >>It's interesting, you know, we talk about stacks in our last segment and you guys talking about the news and now having all these stacks later on. But think about the evolution of the industry with cloud. A whole new sets of services are emerging mentioned Telco Edge. So it just looks different. What's the same kind of open model that open systems brought us, but just a little bit different? It's a distributed cloud security computer, same concepts, new new capabilities. >>Not just to add to that, I mean the biggest innovation John is happening in the hardware layer by the computer, sort of getting disaggregated. There is a lot of acceleration that is going on that are specialized chips, a six effigies that are being built into the servers and and memory's getting pulled outside because the interconnect is getting fast enough for those things to happen. And so a lot of the innovation that we do as a platform that we didn't talk about much today is really a data layer, because we had to virtual eyes all of that and provide it to the level. Of course, >>yeah, it's great. It's a great architecture. I think I just add more complexity that's coming and you guys can help. Abstract away is you just look at cybersecurity and the role of data. You got to get in front of all these these trends to get that automation dev ops going because without any automation and software is just people can't handle the inbounds. It's a big problem. >>Yeah, you really need, um, your platforms to provide intrinsic security. It shouldn't be. It shouldn't be an option. It shouldn't be something the developers need to worry about. It should be something that's just part of the platform. And that's one of the things that we see is critical and actually built into Visa or seven. And you've seen that we've made a number of acquisitions recently. Actually, in the security piece, it's it's so that we can purposely build into your runtime environment, which is your VM environment container environment that we're running. We actually build in intrinsic security would build in a dynamic checking off the scope of an application in real time. Um, while those applications running, which is very key. >>Paul, >>Thanks for sharing all that great stuff. I want to get one final thought for both of you before we wrap up is we've been seeing and we've been reporting kind of the three ways of the cloud wave one was public. We all kind of know how that turned out. Awesome Cloud Native Born in the Cloud Wave two is well right now with a lot of intensity hybrid that's got a range of definitions. And then the third wave that's coming fast is multi cloud. So I want to get your thoughts on hybrid. A lot of energy, a lot of spend a lot of dollars investment in hard causing people in hybrid. I know we have different definitions. Is also different versions of hybrid. How do you define hybrid? And how does that become a path to the next wave? Or is it a path of next wave? What's your take? >>So it's absolutely the bad the next, I would say the hybrid, in our view, is the same platform running on which cloud do you want to use in our platform, as we talked about spans all the major clouds today giving the same operating model, and that's what we view as the hybrid cloud story. But the next one is the ability to mix native cloud workloads and services with that, and we already have a set of products and services that target that it's the times. A portfolio that I talked about is all focused on the multi cloud journey. So we kind of support both, and we're looking forward and aggressively going after the multi cloud. >>I think it's important to think of them as is completely complimentary of each other, right? A hybrid infrastructure platforms. So you know, a single I T organization can actually have one operating experience for their entire infrastructure, independent of Cloud Private Cloud Public Cloud Services. But Multi Cloud is about developers. It's about developers able to deploy their applications on any cloud environment that they need to, and they don't need to worry about infrastructure. So hybrid cloud is really about, ah, hybrid infrastructure that we can deploy everywhere, multi cloud and the services that we're providing to developers is all about how you could be independent of any cloud deployment that you want. It could be a hybrid infrastructure you deploy on. It could be on a standard public cloud service, >>and what's interesting is not. Not not all clouds are created equal. I mean, Amazon has much more capability in Azure and Google, but they're finding their swim lanes. But again it's all about the workload. The workload decides which cloud to work on. Satya Nadella Keynote Analysis | Microsoft Ignite 2019


 

>>Live from Orlando, Florida It's the cue covering Microsoft Ignite Brought to you by Cohee City. >>Hello, everyone. And welcome to the Cubes live coverage of Microsoft Ignite. We're kicking off three days of live coverage here at the Orange County Civic Center Convention Center. Sorry, I'm your host. Rebecca Knight coasting along side of stew Minutemen. Do we have so much to cover? So many new products? So many new strategies. New Emphasis Head knew new buzzwords, tech intensity and democratization. Uh, you were here. You were in the hub. You heard Satya Nadella live on the main stage. I'd like to just get your initial impressions and initial thoughts of of his keynote, and we're gonna dig into all of >>them. Rebecca, it's great to be here second year doing it with you here. Your background, really on business. Productivity. Really enjoyed doing this one within you. Chew said Walter Wall. Three days of covered The place is just buzzing with activity. 26,000 in attendance for a show that's been called soft night for I think it's been about six years. It was tech head back in the day we talked about last year, you know, this was originally, you know, the windows and office. You know, administrators show and has really matured over time. Trust was a big topic of conversation. And you know what? With my general thing, they rearrange some of the logistics of it. I actually, you know, usually I'm sitting with the press and the analyst upfront. Actually, you know, when in the shoes of the attending here, which meant I stood in our for almost two hours waiting to be one of the 3000 out of 26,000 to go get a seat and communication was a little bit weird and we kind of move in. But I did get a nice seat. Such intel was up on front. I thought they covered a lot of ground and it ran well, logistically. For those of us that were watching from the main stage, I heard remotely, you know, as sometimes happens, you know, Internet or things that there could be some calendars. It is with all of these cloud shows that we go to you just get this barrage of so many different things, everything from you know, really interesting as your arc, which we're gonna spend a bunch of time talking about through all of the latest. Aye. Aye. And the power things that they're going on all the way down through dynamics and teams and devices and EJ and on DDE down to the browser and the search engine. So so many different things. You know, Microsoft, Of course. You know, one of the store words in technology, but clearly laying out Ah, lot of announcements, books worth of you work of all of the announcement that go out there. And you know, general, take that I get for most people is they definitely are impressed so far. And they're gonna spend all week digging in tow, learn more, >>So we're gonna We're gonna dig in right now. But But I also just want to say that setting the scene doll, this is October 25th. Microsoft was given the jet, announced it was announced it was given the jet I contract. This was a big surprise. And this is Microsoft, which is a distant number two to AWS. Did Sathya seem on a high from that still or what is your impression? >>Unless I missed it, I didn't catch anything about it. Absolutely. I've talked to some people around the show, Talk to somebody appears in the media and analyst community. That air talking about it absolutely was a big surprise. Anybody that's interested in this go check out John. For years written down on this, David Lantz has done a lot of analysis. We've been looking at this quite a bit. Amazon really had one this deal, and it went through courts and Oracle, you know, pushed against really hard to try to make for the Amazon, did it. General Mattis writes about it in his book that I think you came out recently, You know, from the president down to make sure that Amazon did not get this politics entry. The high level is it's $10 billion over 10 years, but when you look into it, number one is the minimum purchase. In the first years only like a 1,000,000. It's expected to be more like 202 150 million in the 1st 2 years, but it is a big deal. Microsoft really spent a lot of time the last couple of years going deeper into public sector, making sure they've got the governance and the compliance sergeant is Kino talked about the 54 azure regions and what they're doing. They're still work that Microsoft needs to do. They don't have the Level six security yet which Amazon does that They've been given less than a year to get that, to make sure that they can fulfill this. But a lot of pieces and there will be lots of other government contracts, but lots of intrigue there. I think it goes back to thing we mentioned trust. Can the government trust that Microsoft will allow them to do all they need to do? There's a lot of office 3 65 in the government. And, of course, Microsoft does. This other thing. There's a bunch of in the government is they use Oracle. We know that Oracle and Amazon are still butting heads. You don't expect to see Oracle on Amazon, you know, shaking hands on stage any time soon. At Oracle OpenWorld This year you saw Oracle allowing their solution to run on Azure in friendly licensing terms because you can run Oracle on AWS. But oracles gonna do everything you can to make sure that the licensing terms her onerous in that environment, they want you to do it on their infrastructure or on their environment and really opening up to Azure. Now, the government contrast that they can run it there. And for me, that trust resident. When I talk to the partner ecosystem, there definitely is some concern about Amazon's power in the marketplace and what they will do. Amazon, to their credit, has a big ecosystem there. Marketplace is phenomenal and they are open and give customers choice. But obviously, just like if you serve on amazon dot com, if it's a Amazon Basics or Amazon provider solution, they're probably going toe move that them in that way. Every company does this for, you know, Google makes sure that they optimize for their ads and everything like that. Microsoft in the past was known for optimizing their licensing revenue. Today they're more trusted. They're more open. I think Santa leaves that on the from the top. But you know so many things that they need to dig into. So Jet I not something I'd expect to spend a lot of time on this week, But thank you for bringing it up happily undertone. Because what the moral of the stories today cloud is AWS and Azure are the clear leaders. Yes, AWS still has a sizable lead. A measure is slowly eating into that lead. But as a as a user, as an enterprise, as any company out there, you can't be wrong by choosing either of those solutions. And one of Microsoft's embracing is that multi cloud environment going back to art will talk about how do I live in that multi cloud world? Eight of us still leads with their hybrid solution and use eight of us don't use other clouds. Azure is more embracing of a multi cloud world. >>So so let's talk about that now. But I just in terms of the trust at a time where there is such deep and tremendous skepticism, a big tech in government right now, the trust really is a crucial element. We're gonna We're gonna talk about that today with a lot of our guests two developments that you're most interested in. And I really want to dig into here as your ark. We're gonna start azure Arkin Power platform. But as your brand new today, uh, your thoughts, your impressions? >>Yes. So, as your ark, I can automate update with my policies across any environment, not just azure. So where I look at this and say, OK, do I manage azure with this? Absolutely. It's got kubernetes in it, so I should be able to move things around if need be. My my data center. In what? I'm putting their all of the azure stack and EJ hub all of these azure pieces in my data center. Can I manage that with us? Of course. The question is, what about if I'm using Google? Service is if I'm using A W S service is in the demo that they ran. They showed 80 was and said, Oh, we can manage that I said, That's great that they can. But will customers actually do that? There's a certain skill set. There's no way a program for it. And of course, AWS has its tooling that everybody uses their. So we've been trying to get that single pane of glass of, you know, for more than my entire career. And the techies I talked to is that pane of glass is nothing but P a. I n is the joke we always make. So it is great that they've done this by the way it's on Lee in Tech preview right now, so it's great that they have this. We've been saying for years that Microsoft, if you talk about hybrid, has the lead when you talk about thought, leadership and solutions. But really, that hybrid solution is azure and data center, and I've got my APs that live everywhere. So 03 65 or in my data center in there. What we're really hearing here is a comprehensive reimagining of hybrid, as we've been talking about it more recently is I really blur the lines between my data center, the public cloud and even the edge. So it's great to see Microsoft do this. I got a lot of friends that are at the V M World Europe Show in Barcelona this week. We've been talking about this in the V M where environment for last couple of years of the VM, where on AWS via where on Azure V M wear on Google, Oracle, IBM and more. So it's great that Microsoft has stepped up here. In some ways. It makes me really think how I thought about Microsoft because Microsoft has been, in my mind a leader and hybrid and realizing that they need to really, really make a significant change to the portfolio. To really deliver on the promise of hybrid and multi My definition of when we will have a true multi con solution is when the value that extract from the system is greater than the sum of the parts. And absolutely that's not where we are today. Microsoft has a lot of pieces. Absolutely. They have a right to be one of the leaders pulling those pieces together. And really, it is a place where you see Microsoft and IBM, where partnering, but also all going to be that leader in the management of my cloud native environment. And we're gonna spend a lot of time this week talking to the developers because that's another area that sought to spend a lot of time. Those two point 6,000,000 citizen developers, as he calls them. I'm sure you must have really loved Rebecca. 61% of job openings for developers are outside of the tech sector. >>Well, exactly, and that is that is such a huge point and that's what Sathya said. That's always been our sweet spot wear for the citizen developers and we want to democratize computing. We want to make sure that you can bring your best self to work and be your most productive self to work in. So many of the tools that they have introduced today are all about creativity, collaboration, time management, productivity, individual time productivity as well as team productivity. So there's a lot of exciting developments today. Let's talk about power platform. Speaking of the parts and pieces What what does it do? What most interests you and excites you about power platform >>boy. So you know, first, the last thing. The citizen developers. It's funny when most people do, you know, where do I start? And I started to excel. And of course, Microsoft is probably the company that most people I'm old enough now that I remember, you know, using the spreadsheets before Excel was the leader that it was there. But the power platform, The thing I've been looking at is way were here a year ago. There was no power platform. Did we talk a lot about a I Absolutely. We talk about data warehousing and business intelligence and all of these things. So I'm trying to understand how much of This is just the new umbrella. Platt, the new umbrella messaging around it and how much there's new products. I talked to a couple people that dig in straight here. I talked to a couple of Microsoft Mbps. Which way? There are lots of them here. I haven't mentioned it, Rebecca already. But the community at the show is excellent. It is welcoming. It is engaging. Diversity is front and center at this show and Microsoft Great kudos for that because it ties into that citizen developers. But when you talk about the power platform, it's about enabling the citizen developers. So a few announcements in their power automate is really there are p a solution. We've got power virtual agents, which is understanding natural language and conversations. Such actually did a cute little thing. He went toe like universal and fought the demi Gorgon from stranger things. Stranger things, fan. I thought it was really cute and everything. But, he explained, he's like, Okay, here's you know it's understanding my name and saying, Get back to me. It's understanding the movements that I'm doing and turning that into what what's happening so way. Understand that we're still relatively early into gaining the full benefits out of a I hear. But there's a lot of tooling, and from what the people I've talked to is the power platform absolutely is much more than just a rebranding. There are acquisitions that have come in. There are software launches and you know, Microsoft in the agile, continuously shipping code mode that everybody is in these days, you know, is going through a lot of veneration. So I believe that you know that the platform was announced back in the spring, and something that I've seen with Microsoft and many companies like Cisco, that air going heavily of software, a platform of software, actually could be a unifying factor forcing function between all of these groups. So rather than saying, Oh my gosh, Microsoft, you've got, you know, 1000 different software packages that I would by no, no, that's not the way you think about it. You know, they don't come on a CD or disk anymore. Instead, it's there's something that I plug into on it, cloud enabled. It's able to be, you know, purchase interruptible model. So we've got number of guests that that power platform absolutely is. You know, hearing good things in the ecosystem and absolutely, you know, you know, it is a strength of Microsoft when you talk about the leverage and use of data in a business environment, on is their legacy. >>And this is a company that is going from strength to strength right now, really firing on all four senators cylinders, azure office, 3 65 windows. We haven't talked about fortnight and the other gaming elements here, but in terms of, um, usage issues, I know there were There were a couple of hiccups last week. >>Yeah, so you know, outages or something. People are definitely worried about the cloud. There was reported last week that there was some availability and performance issues. They were throttling things back. They were saying you couldn't scale and we're like, Wait, you know, infinite compute, infinite storage on demand. That's what we need. And from some of the things I heard from the community, the gaming platforms actually were impacting this and actually gaming that run across both AWS and azure. So it definitely is a little bit of a red flag. You know, your azure, your your your microsoft, and you want to talk about that you are a leader in the face. You can trust them. We're gonna keep you going. Well, you know, cos have spent decades making sure that their data centers have the up time and reliability that we need. You know, when I talk to the big cloud providers, they have some of the same conversation we were having back in the infrastructure world, You know, 15 years ago about data availability and data loss, You know? D u D E l date on availability and data loss. It was a four letter word. You can't have it. You would have war rooms and make for the things you know. Don't go down so little bit of a red flag especially, you know, will there be any contesting of the government deal? You don't want something sitting there saying Oh, hey, wait. I have a critical you know d o d operation. That needs to happen. Wait, We can't speak out when we need it. You know that. That's a no No. >>Right. Exactly. Well, this is these air, all the topics we're going to get into and then some over the next three days, it's gonna be an action packed show. I'm looking forward to it. Lisa Martin and David Lantz wrapping up day one of our coverage of pure accelerate. 2019. Howdy. How do y'all Hey, I >> think I started a trend. >> I think you did. So, Dave, this has been a dice shot out of a cannon. I think, as only you know, pure does. Well, we had lots of conversations. Lots of news this morning, Which was nice to hear. As pure welcomes their 10th anniversary in a couple of weeks. We talked with customers. We talked in many different industries partners, Puritans. Lots of innovation has occurred in their 1st 10 years. Charlie got up on stage this morning. Then he came to the Cube and talked about this modern data experience and the 10 X improvements and many things that they're gonna deliver. Not in the next 10 years. In the next few years. >> Yes. So we're seeing a story of growth here. It's a theme. If you look read yours press releases, they start The first line is the only storage company that's growing, which is true, at least the storage company of size of a billion dollar plus storage company and talking a lot about modern storage. To me, it's a story of entering new markets their second decade tam expansion into new ai ai workloads. Certainly the cloud trying to make the cloud of a tailwind. We have just heard from Carrie Stanton of'em Data protection is an area. You know, years ago, Uh, I remember talking to executive at Netapp Tom George and saying, Hey, we're gonna buy ah, storage backup cos you know, we're gonna preserve our partnerships with whomever con vault and Veritas in vino, whoever they're working with time and you see pure taking a similar strategy E M. C at the time did something different. They vertically integrated. They they bought a company called Llegado. They integrated into compete. And of course, now they're that sort of their stack. And so, if you were small enough now still close to $2 billion at the at the end of this fiscal year that they don't have to necessarily vertically integrate, we'll see 10 Next 10. That's the third decade, what happens there and in the customer input you're seeing. Customers are continuing to invest in pure. They're very happy. What you've seen, Lisa is customers look at pure is shifting. And I said this on the Cube earlier shifting labor in tow. Pure czar and D. Now the hyper scale is like Amazon. They'll spend time of engineering time to save money. I t practitioners of the enterprise. They'll spend money to save time and so they will happily spend money on on products if they can lower the IittIe labor costs. So totally different mindsets and you're you're seeing that's taking hold and pure really has done a great job of that. Now, as I said in my my breaking analysis, you know, a couple weeks ago, analyzing the vendors pure, clearly growing. But these things go in cycles, right? There's hard compares. You're going to see. I guarantee you're going to see these other companies, you know, chewing their models. They're big, pure talks about 10 X. The reality is, you know, Delhi emcees 10 x the size of pure right, so they throw a farm or cash on. So if you're a big whale with a big install base, that's what you do, You mind it If you're pure and you're smaller, you're 1.51 point seven billion. You go hunting. And that's the dynamic worse we're seeing. I don't see that changing dramatically for quite some time until the economy shifts and in the mindset shifts and when. Then we'll see how pure adjusts its business model from, perhaps growth to more profitability. >> And speaking of growth, they're just coming off a very successful second quarter where they announced last month in August, 28% year on year, both adding about seven that new customers a day. A lot of that attributed to innovation and the channel. They did a good job in the last 18 months or so of pivoting. They're smaller medium customer business to the channel, allowing peer to focus on much more enterprise focus. And they actually I think, even in queue to close 50% more multi $1,000,000 deals this last quarter >> and well, and while those seem like great numbers, they actually the stock got hit after the quarter. Why? Because they lowered guidance. Why, Because of this NAND pricing confusion, Nan pricing drops so fast in the quarter faster. They expected it sort of hurt revenues a little bit. They expect that that softness that continue. So they've been conservative going for it. You know, who knows of this smart to be conservative cause I wouldn't say that they're sandbagging. I say they're being conservative, you know, makes a bigger question. You know, it's storage kind of a crappy business, and we'll see. I say, that is, if you're gonna win in storage right these days, you have to gain share. Pure is gaining share della. 0% growth appears to be gaining share 0% growth. It's not a great market. So what's happening, we don't really know is cloud siphoning off demand for the traditional on Prem surgeon Could be. Can these companies make cloud a tailwind or is cloud a zero sum game? I tend to think long term, the Maur cloud, the worse it is for on Prem. So that's why everybody's scrambling for this multi cloud strategy, which is very, very early days. Multi cloud today is largely a a symptom of multi vendor versus you know, a coherent user strategy with right we're management's. Now the Big Five are trying to change that pure is playing its role. Companies like Veum and others are playing their role, so we'll see how that plays out. I do think there's a clear opportunity and multi cloud, but, um, it you know, it's unclear how large that is or whether it's just going to be a series of horses for courses. In other words, the right strategic fit for the right workload. >> So your thoughts on the evolution of their AWS partnership really looking at what they're now doing with eight of us as this bridge toe hybrid cloud customers of choice on from hosted, you know, as a service public cloud your take on this forcing function of bringing pure and AWS together of the customer base. >> Yeah, I think it's actually pretty clever. Move by pure take their engineering. It's okay. We're gonna settle, do all the heavy lifting set up AWS with e c two priority E. C. Two instances networking we're gonna mirror. We're gonna the architect of the basically block storage inside of eight of its front ending s three, which is the cheap object store? Pretty innovative. What it does is it gives customers an option for hire availability block storage that looks like pure but runs on AWS in the cloud. Very clever. And so all the advantages of OPEC's versus cap ex. You know the cloud experience, but it's the pure management experience. Eso very clever. Give pure customers who were happy. An option is there. I'm sure they're hearing from the customers. Hey, we want to go to the cloud where we heard it from the the eight of us Speaker today. Gardner Data. 88% of customers have a cloud first strategy, but 86 continue to spend on print. Right? Okay. So smart by pure to do that, I don't know how big a business that's gonna be, but it's a nice hedge. In case that really, that trend takes off >> and your thoughts on one of the other announcements today. Another first rip your We've talked about that the number of times they have there been first in a lot of things in the last 10 years transitioning offering most of their portfolio as a service and your perspective against the other competitors that you mentioned. How do you see that? >> Yeah, you know, the first your lips, they're bigger than the small companies that people have never heard of, like Zadar, a storage who actually were probably one of the first. But but they're the first again $1,000,000,000 plus company to do this. That's what customers want Customers want. The cloud experience in a big part of that cloud experience is a pricing model in the utility model. That's cloud like when AWS announced outposts, it was a clear sign that the industry had had to respond. I'm not saying this is a response to Outpost, but it's clearly a response to the cloud model so paid by the drink. You know, Op X versus cap packs of being able to have that cloud pricing model and experience across the portfolio is goodness. >> So Charlie, their CEO, talked about this morning, this modern data experience going into the next decade, it's gonna be three. Us is simple, seamless, sustainable. We all want that. I think for anything in life, your take on that from marketing to reality >> I see is anything but simple. Let's be honest. It's seamless is probably the most overused word in a >> knot. I think in future proof >> it's the chance to say that and sustainable >> eh? Well >> sustained from the standpoint, what I love about the model is way. Heard this in the customer today. Well, you know, the five year TCO was kind of a wash, but then beyond five years, it was a no brainer because we're now in that subscription model. So I guess that's that's the sort of sustainability you think its sustainability in different ways. You know, green, I t >> right >> again. I t is not really green. So, you know, good marketing. >> Well, we heard from I think we had three or four customers on today with four to legal firms, one in New Zealand, one in the States we heard from a utility company out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then Mercedes AMG, Petunias Motor Sport. Formula One free, very different industries, similar stories in terms of the management simplicity of pure the evergreen model of being able to swap out and take advantage of those innovations and the things that Piers is doing the r and d on from a cost perspective. But I think those were three kind of common business and I t benefits that I heard articulated by three very different industries of very different sizes. >> I mean, I think it's important. Remember, you get a really effusive commentary from the pure customers, and I'm not trying to B B negative on that. They're very, very clear that companies like pure Nutanix cohesive the rubric wien. They have great customer experiences, and they're different than what companies air used to buying very often. Having said that, when we get these, when we get into these, you know, benefit, cost benefit discussions Typically you're you're you're comparing a modern, you know, circa 2019 platform with something that's, you know, five years old, so you better have a significantly better metrics again. Having said that, you're seeing a different experience, and that's clearly coming through in the customers that you talk to with pure. They started with a clean sheet of paper, didn't have a lot of technical debt, not a lot of baggage, that alone some really smart people that, you know, in Silicon Valley, you know, inundated with all this cloud stuff, and then they brought it forth very hard to build a billion dollar storage company. Pure was the 1st 1 since Netapp. So >> that was a couple of guys going >> to do it compelling couldn't do it. Equal logic couldn't do it after you've never heard of half of these companies, right? It's been it's been many, many years, decades since you saw a billion dollar storage company. That's how hard it is and to achieve escape velocity and fewer did it, which is quite a feat. And now that now the challenge is their market cap. It's so large that four and 1/2 1,000,000,000 and growing right ostensibly that they may be become acquisition proof. Okay, that's a good thing on the one hand, cause we love independent companies. On the other hand, at some point, the Tam Tam expansion within that little niche gets very difficult. That's why, for example, e M. C. Had to go out and buy a company like Llegado, and it made some actually, you know, some other crappy Apple acquisitions that didn't work out. And then they stumbled into VM, where it was gonna part of a TAM expansion strategy, and they lucked out because they the greatest acquisition in the history of I T. But I guess my point is at some point, a billion dollar company becomes a $2 billion company. Maybe give becomes a $5 billion company, and then it's like, OK, what do we do next? How do and you're seeing that app is in there now. Netapp is a growth challenge, Um, and a Tam expansion challenge. But it's too big to get acquired. There were years for their. For years. There were rumors about Cisco required, kept the stock up. It never happened. So stock buybacks tuck in acquisitions, you know, refresh of the portfolio, squeezing out a little bit of growth, some bad quarters. You know, that's That's the nature of the big company so pure at some point we'll hit that, but I think we're a couple of 1,000,000,000 away. >> They have also done a robust job of building a robust partner ecosystem. We talked to a number of them today, Cisco in video we had on the team. Tomorrow's Blanc is on in terms of this growth that you talked about, How well positioned are they with with the strategic and technology partnerships that they are not only building but evolving quite quickly? Where does that factor into your thoughts about their future in the next decade? >> I think, um, I think the key to that is their architecture. In terms of their AP, I, uh, framework. It makes it easy to integrate. Wait, Um and to the extent that they continue to grow, the customers buy their products, loved their products. The high end p s scores all that stuff, it's easier to have a NPS score when you're a billion dollar company is when you're, you know, $50 billion company. But are you with a big portfolio? But customers, clearly you're has momentum. People want to be with a winner. If yours a winner there. Architectures easy to integrate. Relatively speaking. Thio, You know the legacy vendors and it's clean across the portfolio. And so that's that's why I think the ecosystem continues to grow. I'd like to see more growth, you know, I remember service now when they were a billion dollar company and thinking, Wow, it was about this size, you know? Now you go to service now. I mean, you see the big, uh s eyes. You see a lot of niche players bumping into him or jumping up. I'd like to see that here, and I think it will continue. >> Well, this is certainly ah good chunk larger than last year's accelerate, which was about a year and 1/2 ago. And look where we are, Dave, We're in Austin. This is Dell's backyard. This is a bold company. I was telling you earlier today when I was doing some research for our guests, something that catches my attention as a marketer that many companies cannot d'oh and that is very bold and very direct against their competitors and tell customers this is why you should be buying us. I applaud that as a marketer, and as somebody who gets to interview folks on the Q, because it's hard to do. They have this bullish culture that they've always had, and they have grown in the last 10 years. We're seeing expansion, and we're seeing them not afraid to tackle anybody that their customers are looking at. >> So I want to talk about some of the industry dynamics as well. The I T industry loves a vacuum, and I think in some respects the acquisition of the EMS see by Del created a vacuum and pure is taking advantage of that now. For a while, Gel took its eye off the ball and was storage business was affected, and then they got their act together. And now it's 0% growth. It's it's Yeah, okay, I'd like to see better growth there, but they've been doing a lot of work, and pure is referenced this and some of the pressure. This is Dallas consolidating its portfolio, which is exactly the right thing to do. Deli emcees Portfolio is way too complicated, but you have to be careful. You can't just consolidate overnight because you're alienating your customers. So there's still some of that going on. The linchpin of Del strategy is VM wear. That is the key. That's where the future is for those guys. So when AMC was an independent storage company, it would fight tooth and nail. You know, Jeremy Burton was gonna take out net app, and he didn't do it. You have all these crazy videos and they, you know, they were focused, competitive oriented company that loved its customers and was very customer focused in many respects. I mean, they're still competitive, very competitive, but they're not that independent, pure play anymore. It's now it's netapp and pure, and I feel like net episode distracted, you know, with some of the struggles that pure is really, you know, has an opportunity. You know, I I remember Scott decent years and years and years ago told me when they were nobody said We think we could be the next TMC in storage. And I was like, Really? That's a amazingly bold statement when it appeared that the storage industry was kind of disappearing and everybody was getting acquired and it was becoming this vertically integrated converged infrastructure player with storage and networking and service. And that still may happen. A cloud, everything else, Um, but, you know, if you're has an opportunity to really become the leader in in this business in, you know, has an opportunity become the number one storage company takes some time, Uh, for a while. I question is, it doesn't really make sense to have independent stores, But you still see a lot of innovation. Certainly the backup vendors startups, you know, you see smaller companies, VC money still coming in back to something you said earlier. I t generally, and storage specifically really isn't simple. It's very complicated, and it's very hard. >> Well, Dave, we have had a great first day. I'm excited to work with you tomorrow. We've got cause coming on. Kicks coming on some more customers. And in the year since, we've been ableto invest in engineering support, my joining the company in marketing to take this solution, we've been able to save thousands of customers millions of man hours and bring it to a larger number of users. Way >> first saw 10 tree, we said, Wow, this is all about simplification. And Jonah Course you remember that when you go back to the early early Dick Cube days of of'em World, very complex storage was a major challenge. 10 Tree was all about simplifying that. Of course, we know DDN as well is the high performance specialist and have worked with those guys for a number of years. But take >> us >> back Married to the original vision of 10 Cherie. Is that original vision still alive? How was it evolved? >> Well, I'd say that it's, ah, number one reason why we're a part of the DD and family of brands because, as, ah, portfolio company, they're looking good. Bring technologies. I'm the marketing guy for our enterprise or virtual ization audience, and the product sets that cover high performance computing have their own audience. So for me, I'm focused on that. Graham's also focused on that, and, uh, really what continues to make us different today is the fact we were designed to learn from the beginning to understand how virtual machines end to end work with infrastructure. And that's really the foundation of what makes us different today. The same thing, right? >> So from the very beginning we were we were built to understand the work clothes that we service in the data center. So and that was virtual machines. We service those on multiple hyper visors today in terms of being able to understand those workloads intrinsically gives us a tremendous capability. Thio place. I owe again understanding that the infrastructure network storage, hyper visor, uh, weaken view that end end in terms of a latent a graph and give customers and insight into the infrastructure how it's performing. I would say that we're actually extending that further ways in terms of additional workload that we're gonna be able to take on later this year. >> So I know a lot >> of storage admits, although I I only play one on >> TV, but, uh, no, consistently >> throughout the years, right? 10 tree user experiences that is the forefront there. And in fact, they they often some people have said, You know what? I really want to get something done. I grab my tent Reeboks and so it can't talk. Maybe some examples of one example of why the user experience how the user experiences differ or why, why it's different. >> I'll start off by saying that I had a chance being new to the company just two weeks to meet a lot of 10 tree users. And prior to taking the job, I talkto us some folks behind the scenes, and they all told me the same thing. But what I was so interested to hear is that if they didn't have 10 tree, they'd otherwise not have the time to do the automation work, the research work, the strategy work or even the firefighting that's vital to their everyday operations. Right? So it's like, of course, I don't need to manage it. If I did, I wouldn't be able to do all these other things. And I think that's it. Rings true right that it's hard to quantify that time savings because people say, 0 1/2 of it. See, that's really not much of the greater scheme of things. I don't know. 1/2 50. Working on strategic program is a huge opportunity. Let's see >> the value of 10 tree to our end users and we've heard from a lot of them this week actually spent a fantastic event hearing from many of our passionate consumers. From the very beginning. We wanted to build a product that ultimately customers care about, and we've seen that this week in droves. But I would say the going back to what they get out of it. It's the values and what they don't have to do, so they don't have to carve up ones. They don't have to carve up volumes. All they have to do is work with the units of infrastructure that air native to their environment, v ems. They deal with everything in their environment from our virtual machine perspective, virtual machines, one thing across the infrastructure. Again, they can add those virtual machines seamlessly. They can add those in seconds they don't have toe size and add anything in terms of how am I gonna divide up the storage coming in a provisional I Oh, how am I going to get the technical pieces right? Uh, they basically just get place v EMS, and we have a very simplistic way to give them Ah, visualization into that because we understand that virtual machine and what it takes to service. It comes right back to them in terms of time savings that are tremendous in terms of that. >> So let's deal with the elephant in the room. So, so 10 tree. We've talked about all the great stuff in the original founding vision. But then I ran into some troubles, right? And so what? How do you deal with that with customers in terms of just their perception of what what occurred you guys did the eye poets, et cetera, take us through how you're making sure customers are cool with you guys. >> I'm naturally, glass is half full kind of guy from previous, uh, times on the Cube. The interesting thing is, not a lot of people actually knew. Maybe we didn't create enough brand recognition in the past for people to even know that there was a transition. There were even some of our customers. And Graham, you can pile on this that because they don't manage the product every day because they don't have to. It's kind of so easy they even for gotten a lot about it on don't spend a lot of time. I'd say that the reason why we are able to continue. Invest today a year after the acquisition is because retaining existing customers was something that was very successful, and to a lot of them, you can add comments. It wasn't easy to switch to something. They could just switch to something else because there's no other product, does these automatic things and provides the predictive modeling that they're used to. So it's like what we switched to so they just kept going, and to them, they've given us a lot of great feedback. Being owned by the largest private storage company on planet Earth has the advantages of strong source of supply. Great Leverett reverse logistics partnerships with suppliers as a bigger company to be able to service them. Long >> trial wasn't broke, so you didn't need to fix it. And you were ableto maintain obviously a large portion of that customer base. And what was this service experience like? And how is that evolving? And what is Dede and bring to the table? >> So, uh, boy DD and brings so many resources in terms of bringing this from the point when they bought us last year. A year ago today, I think we transition with about 40 people in the company. We're up about 200 now, so Ah, serious investment. Obviously, that's ah have been a pretty heavy job in terms of building that thing back up. Uh, service and support we've put all of the resource is the stated goal coming across the acquisition was they have, ah, 10. Tree support tender by DNC would be better than where 10 tree support was. We fought them on >> rate scores, too. So it's hard to go from there. Right? And >> I would say what we've been doing on that today. I mean, in terms of the S L. A's, I think those were as good as they've ever been from that perspective. So we have a big team behind us that are working really hard to make sure that the customer experience is exactly what we want. A 10 tree experience to be >> So big messages at this This show, of course, multi cloud kubernetes solving climate change, fixing the homeless problem in San Francisco. I'm not hearing that from you guys. What's what's your key message to the VM world? >> Well, I personally believe that there's a lot of opportunity to invest in improving operations that are already pretty darn stable, operating these environments, talking to folks here on the floor. These new technologies you're talking about are certainly gonna change the way we deploy things. But there's gonna be a lot of time left Still operating virtualized server infrastructure and accelerating VD I deployments to just operationalized things better. We're hoping that folks choose some new technologies out there. I mean, there's a bill was a lot of hype in past years. About what technology to choose. We're all flash infrastructure, but well, I'd liketo for the say were intelligent infrastructure. We have 10 and 40 get boards were all flash, but that's not what you choose this. You choose this because you're able to take their operations and spend more your time on the apse because you're not messing around with that low level infrastructure. I think that there's a renaissance of, of, of investment and opportunity to innovate in that space into Graham's point about going further up the stack. We now have data database technology that we can show gives database administrators the direct ability to self service their own cloning, their own, staging their own operations, which otherwise would be a complex set of trouble tickets internally to provision the environment. Everyone loves to self service. That's really big. I think our customers love. It's a self service aspect. I see the self service and >> the ability to d'oh again, not have to worry about all the things that they don't have to do in terms of again not having to get into those details. A cz Morrow mentioned in terms of the database side, that's, ah, workload, the workload intelligence that we've already had for virtual machines. We can now service that database object natively. We're going to do sequel server later this year, uh, being ableto again, being able to see where whether or not they've got a host or a network or a storage problem being able to see where those the that unit they're serving, having that inside is tremendously powerful. Also being able the snapshot to be able to clone to be able thio manage and protect that database in a native way. Not having to worry about, you know, going into a console, worrying about the underlying every structure, the ones, the volumes, all the pieces that might people people would have to get involved with maybe moving from, like, production to test and those kinds of things. So it's the simplicity, eyes all the things that you really don't have to do across the getting down in terms of one's the volumes, the sizing exercises one of our customers put it. Best thing. You know, I hear a lot of things back from different customer. If he says the country, the sentry box is the best employee has >> I see that way? Reinvest, Reinvest. I haven't heard a customer yet that talks about reducing staff. Their I t staff is really, really critical. They want to invest up Kai throw buzzword out there, Dev. Ops. You didn't mention that it's all about Dev ops, right? And one thing that's interesting here is were or ah, technology that supports virtual environments and how many software developers use virtual environments to write, test and and basically developed programmes lots and being able to give those developers the ability to create new machines and be very agile in the way they do. Their test of is awesome and in terms of just taking big amounts of data from a nap, if I can circling APP, which is these virtual machines be ableto look at that on the infrastructure and more of her copy data so that I can do stuff with that data. All in the flying virtualization we think of Dev Ops is being very much a cloud thing. I'd say that virtual ization specifically server virtualization is the perfect foundation for Dav ops like functionality. And what we've been able to do is provide that user experience directly to those folks up the stacks of the infrastructure. Guy doesn't have to touch it. I wanted to pull >> a couple of threads together, and I think because we talked about the original vision kind of E m r centric, VM centric multiple hyper visors now multi cloud here in the world. So what >> are you seeing >> in the customers? Is that is it? Is it a multi cloud portfolio? What? What are you seeing your customers going to in the future with both on premise hybrid cloud public. So where does where does 10 tree fit into the storage portfolio? >> And they kind of >> fit all over the map. I think in terms of the most of the customers that we have ultimately have infrastructure on site and in their own control. We do have some that ultimately put those out in places that are quote unquote clouds, if you will, but they're not in the service. Vendor clouds actually have a couple folks, actually, that our cloud providers. So they're building their own clouds to service customers using market. What >> differentiates service is for serving better d our offerings because they can offer something that's very end end for that customer. And so there's more. They monetize it. Yeah, and I think those type of customers, like the more regional provider or more of a specialty service provider rather than the roll your own stuff, I'd say that Generally speaking, folks want tohave a level of abstraction as they go into new architecture's so multi cloud from a past life I wrote a lot about. This is this idea that I don't have to worry about which cloud I'm on to do what I'm doing. I want to be able to do it and then regards of which clouded on it just works. And so I think that our philosophy is how we can continue to move up the stack and provide not US access to our analytics because all that analytic stuff we do in machine learning is available via a P I We have ah v r o plug in and all that sort of stuff to be able allow that to happen. But when we're talking now about APS and how those APS work across multiple, you know, pieces of infrastructure, multiple V EMS, we can now develop build a composite view of what those analytics mean in a way that really now gives them new inside test. So how can I move it over here? Can I move over here? What's gonna happen if I move it over here over there? And I think that's the part that should at least delineate from your average garden variety infrastructure and what we like to call intelligent infrastructure stopping that can, Actually that's doing stuff to be able to give you that data because there's always a way you could do with the long way. Just nobody has time to do with the long way, huh? No. And I would actually say that you >> know what you just touched on, uh, going back to a fundamental 10 tree. Different churches, getting that level of abstraction, right is absolutely the key to what we do. We understand that workload. That virtual machine is the level of abstraction. It's the unit infrastructure within a virtual environment in terms of somebody who's running databases. Databases are the unit of infrastructure that they want to manage. So we line exactly to the fundamental building blocks that they're doing in those containers, certainly moving forward. It's certainly another piece we're looking. We've actually, uh I think for about three years now, we've been looking pretty hard of containers. We've been waiting to see where customers were at. Obviously Of'em were put. Put some things on the map this week in terms of that they were pretty excited about in terms of looking in terms of how we would support. >> Well, it certainly makes it more interesting if you're gonna lean into it with someone like Vienna where behind it. I mean, I still think there are some questions, but I actually like the strategy of because if I understand it correctly of Visa, the sphere admin is going to see the spear. But ah ah, developers going to see kubernetes. So >> yeah, that's kind of cool. And we just want to give people an experience, allows them to self service under the control of the I T department so that they can spend less time on infrastructure. Just the end of the I haven't met a developer that even likes infrastructure. They love to not have to deal with it at all. They only do it out. It assessed even database folks They love infrastructural because they had to think about it. They wanted to avoid the pitfalls of bad infrastructure infrastructures Code is yeah, way we believe in that >> question. Go to market. Uh, you preserve the 10 tree name so that says a lot. What's to go to market like? How are you guys structuring the >> organizational in terms of, ah, parent company perspective or a wholly owned subsidiary of DDN? So 10 tree by DDN our go to market model is channel centric in the sense that still a vast majority of people who procure I t infrastructure prefer to use an integrator or reseller some sort of thing. As far as that goes, what you'll see from us, probably more than you did historically, is more work with some of the folks in the ecosystem. Let's say in the data protection space, we see a rubric as an example, and I think you can talk to some of that scene where historically 10 Tree hadn't really done. It's much collaboration there, but I think now, given the overall stability of the segment and people knowing exactly where value could be added, we have a really cool joint story and you're talking about because your team does that. >> Yeah, so I would certainly say, you know, in terms of go to market Side, we've been very much channel lead. Actually, it's been very interesting to go through this with the channel folks. It's a There's also a couple other pieces I mentioned you mentioned some of the cloud provider. Some of those certainly crossed lines between whether they're MSP is whether they are resellers, especially as we go to our friends across the pond. Maybe that's the VM it'll Barcelona discussion, but some of those were all three, right? So there are customer their service providers there. Ah ah, channel partner if you want terms of a resellers. So, um, it's been pretty interesting from that perspective. I think the thing is a lot of opportunity interview that Certainly, uh, I would say where we're at in terms of, we're trying to very much. Uh, we understand customers have ecosystems. I mean, Marco Mitchem, the backup spaces, right? Uh, customers. We're doing new and different things in there, and they want us to fit into those pieces. Ah, and I'd certainly say in the world that we're in, we're not tryingto go solve and boil the ocean in terms of all the problems ourselves we're trying to figure out are the things that we can bring to the table that make it easier for them to integrate with us And maybe in some new and novel, right, >> So question So what's the number one customer problem that when you guys hear you say, that's our wheelhouse, we're gonna crush the competition. >> I'll let you go first, >> So I'd say, you know, if they have a virtualized environment, I mean, we belong there. Vermin. Actually, somebody said this bed is the best Earlier again. Today in the booze is like, you know, the person who doesn't have entries, a person who doesn't know about 10 tree. If they have a virtual environment, you know, the, uh I would say that this week's been pretty interesting. Lots of customer meetings. So it's been pretty, pretty awesome, getting a lot of things back. But I would say the things that they're asking us to solve our not impossible things. They're looking for evolution's. They're looking for things in terms of better insights in their environment, maybe deeper insights. One of the things we're looking to do with the tremendous amount of data we've got coming back, Um, got almost a million machines coming back to us in terms of auto support data every single night. About 2.3 trillion data points for the last three years, eh? So we're looking to make that data that we've gotten into meaningful consumable information for them. That's actionable. So again, again, what can we see in a virtual environment, not just 10 tree things in terms of storage of those kinds of things, but maybe what patches they have installed that might be affecting a network driver, which might affect the certain configuration and being able to expose and and give them some actionable ways to go take care of those problems. >> All right, we gotta go marry. I'll give you. The last word >> stated simply if you are using virtual, is a Shinto abstract infrastructure. As a wayto accelerate your operations, I run the M where, if you have ah 100 virtual machine, 150 virtual machines, you could really benefit from maybe choosing a different way to do that. Do infrastructure. I can't say the competition doesn't work. Of course, the products work. We just want hope wanted hope that folks could see that doing it differently may produce a different outcome. Conversation with Dr Rico is the CMO of infinite out. It's still I still have a hard time saying that doctor or an engineer and I love having you on because we could talk storage. We could go deep and we could talk trends and marketing trends, too. But so welcome. Thanks for coming on my sled. So tell me what's new since the scale to win launch that you guys had. Tell me what you know. Is everything shipping Now What's the uptake been like with customers? And the reaction? Yeah, >> they're the reaction has been phenomenal. This, as you may recall, you were there. It was biggest launch in our history, which was fantastic. And the reaction has just been overwhelmingly positive, with customers with partners with analysts. Human scum cases with competitors is an interesting you know, we had a lot of things that were already shipping. They were an early customer release. There were a few things that we had started shipping in December on the things that we said we'd be coming in three Q. We G eight on time. So there, there now all generally available except the stuff that we talked about that would be available in 2020 which right now looks like it's on track. It's doing very, very well. >> So VM wear VM world eyes coming up later on this month, things are obviously changing. There was announcement recently that that VM wears gonna choir pivotal. So a little bit of financial engineering going on stock stock rose 77% on the day when the Dow dropped 800. So okay, the funny money. But things are changing in the V m where ecosystem you certainly saw we we This is our 10th year the M world. We go back and you hear Tod Nielsen back in the day, talk about for every dollar spent on a V M where lice and 15 was spent a Negro system, you know, we're kinda del izing vm wear now, which is sort of interesting, but I'm curious as to what you're seeing what that all means to you. I mean, still half a million 600,000 customers, you've got to be there you guys have great success at that show. So your thoughts what's going on? But VM world this year? Yeah, I >> kind of kind of loaded their first of all congratulations on the milestone. That's great. 10 years is super. Remember, probably seeing you with the 1st 1 there. Of course we knew each other longer. Uh, you know, and sure I get the incestuous, you know, money changing of hand there, I think I think it's it's good in one respect. You certainly CBM where, you know, making big inroads with VM wear on AWS. And this isn't now with Pivotal will be a good launching platform for Della's well, a svm where to be a little bit more in control of their own destiny. And it's certainly the way a lot of people are going. We're doing a lot of that ourselves. Not so much, in a sense. We don't have a cloud platform that we sell is a total encompassing platform. But of course, with new tricks cloud on big players and then certainly a large portion of our our customer base, our cloud service providers, they love our stuff. It helps them compete. It actually gives them in some respects, a competitive advantage, but VM world itself. Lots going on there. We have amplified our presence once again because VM where does represent a large portion of our customer base? So we're we're very proud of that. We're very proud to be a technology alliance partner of the M wears Andi. We're expecting to see a really good show in a really good cloud. A cloud crowd has they return back to their home base in San Francisco for us this year, it's It's gonna be a different experience. Were tellingme or of the software story, more of the portfolio story more about how you scare scale the win. We have a virtual presence this year, which is going to be very helpful in telling that story. Customers can come in and they can see more than just a ah box that in our world is really not important because it's for us. It's all about the software and stuff we do. We even in Booth Theater, we have some private meeting spaces well, to take people into a bigger, deeper drill down. But the virtual experience will allow them to touch and feel stuff that maybe they didn't get to do before, and that's gonna be kind of exciting as well. >> So you mentioned C S P s. We had Michael Gray thrive on a while back, and you know, he was saying that Look, he likes your product because it allows him to do other things. And don't worry about, you know, the old sort of tuning and managing and ableto re shift labor. I felt like that was an interesting discussion, primarily because you've got all these cloud service providers that everybody thought aws was just gonna kill. And if anything, it's elevated them. What are you seeing in the CSP space? Yeah, you know, >> Michael had a lot of interesting things to say that definitely love the fact that we enable multiple workloads without them having to do lots of cautious planning and re planning and shifting and shuffling. And we are seeing C S P is becoming more value. Add to a lot of businesses, especially the mid market and the smaller enterprise where people may want more than just infrastructure. You know, they don't they need that application level support and companies like thrive in some of our other really good customer, US signal and you know they're all capable of Flex Central's. Another one they're all capable of providing service is beyond the hardware they're capable of providing that application support the guidance and, in the case of Thrive, the cybersecurity guidance especial Really, which is really, really critical. So they're growing, and they're also, by the way, working with eight of us and Google and Azure to provide that capabilities well, when necessary. >> Well, that leads me to the sort of multi cloud discussion in our industry. We tend to have this alphabet soup of acronyms like another reason I like talking to you because we can kind of cut through that. And, you know, I love the marketing. I think marketing helps people understand what's going on differentiate. It gives you an indication of where the industry is going, and multi cloud is one of those things that I mean. I've kind of said it's a symptom of multi vendor and more so than a strategy. But increasingly it seems like it's becoming a strategy with customers, and you just gave an example of thrive working with multiple cloud vendors. Clearly, VM where wants to be in that business. What your thoughts on multi cloud and and hybrid. What does it mean for for infinite at What's your strategy there? You know, it's it's interesting because I >> just read an article the other day about you know, the definition of multi cloud on whether it's being abused and, you know, I I look at it as someone just trying to tell their story and give it. Give it some favor. I think at the end of the day, uh, every business is going to be talking to multiple platforms whether they want to or not. You know, there are many customers and companies out there, businesses who are in our customers who have gone the way of the cloud and repatriated. Certain things is they've they found that it it may work. It may not work, and there are many cloud providers who were trying to do things to accelerate migration of applications because they see that certain applications don't work. You know, we got one of the cloud providers buying Ah, now as provider, another one buying very recently, you know, an envy me based flash company to try to pick up those loose workloads where they might struggle today. But the end of the day everybody's going to be multiple. And whether it's because they're using cloud service is from from a software perspective or whether they just need to basically broker and maintain sort of that that independence so that they can maintain some cost control, availability, control, security, control and in some cases it will remain on premises. And some of things will be off just so they could get the applications closer to their end users. So you know what is multi Cloud? Multi Cloud really is just one of those terms that literally means what it says. It's your business running in multiple places. It doesn't have to necessarily be simultaneously by the same application. >> A big part of your value proposition is the simplicity. We've heard that from your customers, and you guys obviously push that out there. I want to ask you because you mentioned repatriation and you know, Cloud keeps growing like crazy. Sure, and the on prem not so much. You guys are smaller company. You're growing your stealing share, So yep. So maybe is that simplicity thing. Here's my question. So it's around automation. The cloud providers, generally an Amazon specifically have have driven automation. They've attacked the IittIe labor problem and they're able to charge for that on Dhe. So my question is, are you seeing that you're able to attack that labor problem in a similar sense and bring forth the value proposition to customers is Look, we can create a cloud like experience on Prem if you want MacLeod. Great. But if you want to stay on Prem, you're gonna get the benefit of being able to shift. Resource is two more strategic things and not have to worry about all this heavy, heavy lifting. You You seeing tangible evidence of that? >> We're seeing significant tangible evidence of that on and, you know, a couple of things. You know, you talk about growth, right? And I think when we did the launch, you know, only a few months ago we were at about 4.6 exabytes of capacity shipped. We just passed 5.1. That's some significant growth in in just a few months. It's like a 33% growth just from the same time last year, which is which is fairly significant. And of course, if you're familiar with the way we talk, you know you have an engineer is the head of marketing. We like to tell the truth. You know, we don't like to mask, do many things and confuse people. We don't like talking about effective storage because effective capacity doesn't really mean much to some people. So that's, you know, this is what we This is what we shipped and it's growing rapidly. And a lot of that is growing, in part because of the significance of the message and in part because of this need to control costs, contain costs and really operate in a more modern way. So get back to your comments about cloud and cloud operation. That's really what people want. People like the consumption model of cloud. They don't always like the cost on hidden costs. So simplifying that, but giving them the flexibility Thio have either an op X or cap ex that allows him to grow and shrink as they move workloads around. Because everybody grows even on Prem is growing. It's just, you know, it's the law of numbers, right? Cloud is growing, absolutely. But on Prem really is growing. And then the other thing I want is they want the operational flexibility. And that's what we talked about in our elastic data fabric. They don't like constantly having to re jigger and re balance workloads. Infinite box by itself. The platform of infinite Box takes away a lot of that mystery and magic, because it it kind of hides all of the complexity of that workload. And it, you know, we take the randomness out of the I o. I think maybe Craig Hibbert mentioned in his video is he was describing in detail how that happens. Remember Michael Gray talking about that as well, you know, So those those things come out in a single infinite box. But even if you said well, I still want to move my workload from, uh, you know this data center to an adjacent data center or perhaps a data center in another facility. Um, excuse me, Another city. So that's closer to the end user. Making that transparent to the applications is critically important. >> Yes, he talked about growth in about 1/2 a PETA bite. Sorry, half an exabyte in just a few months. A couple months? Really Right. That's that's growth. But I want to ask you about petabytes. Petabytes scales. Kind of key of companies that don't do that in a year day, eh? Exactly. So that's a petabytes scale. Is big party of marketing two questions? Why is that relevant? Or is that relevant to VM? Where customers? Why so and then, does it scare some people owe you? Asked a great question. >> It absolutely scared some people. And I know that there are some pundits out their industry pundits who who basically don't agree with our messaging. But this is this is the business problem that we we targeted the solve rate. Um, there are a lot of people out there who don't think they're petabytes scale yet because maybe they're individual applications aren't petabytes scale. But when you add it up, they get there and a lot of our customers are existing. Customers didn't start with infinite at at petabytes scale. They started a couple 100 terabytes, perhaps, but they're petabytes skill now. In fact, over 80% of the customers and systems that we have out there today or above the petty bite. We have customers that are in the tens of petabytes. We have customers that are in the hundreds of petabytes. They grow, they grow rapidly on. Why is that? Well, to two factors. Really. Number one, if you go back to. Probably when I first met you back when I had your hair, at least in quantity, way had way. Were kind of crusting that terabyte mark. Right? Right. And what was the problem? The problem was nobody could figure out how to deal with the performance. Nobody wanted to put that much risk on a single platform, so they couldn't deal with the availability. And they really didn't know how to deal with even the serviceability of that scale. So terabyte was a problem solved No, 25 years ago, and then things were rapidly from there. Now we're at the same juncture, just three orders of magnitude later. Right? >> Well, that's interesting, because, you know, you're right. People didn't want to put all all that capacity under an actuator that cost performance problems. They were concerned about, you know, just availability. And then two things happen so simultaneously, flash comes along. And, you know, you would say was put sort of a Band aid to some of the performance problems. Sure. And you guys came up with, like, this magic sauce to actually use spinning disc and get the same performance or better performance you would argue with flash. And so as a result, you were now able to do a lot Maur with the data, the concerns about that much date under the actuator somewhat attenuated because, I mean, you've got now so much data, you've got to do something that's almost that's flywheel effective. You've got tons of data machine intelligence and a I. Now, coming into the picture, you've got Cloud, which has been this huge tail when for the industry and for data creation in general. And so I see. You know, you see, like the I. D. C numbers and for forecasting growth of data and storage could be low. I mean, the curve could be bending, you know, kind of more than exponentially your thoughts on that. >> Yeah, it's an interesting, interesting observation. I think what it really comes down to is our storyline is math is greater than media, all right? And when you when you look at the flash being, you know, the panacea to performance it was just a step in the evolution, right? You go back and and say, spinning disc was the same solution to the performance problem 20 years ago. 25 years ago, even it was 5400 rpm discs and then very rapidly. Servers got faster. The interconnects got a little bit faster. They were still mostly differential. Scuzzy. There was 7200 rpm discs. And I promise you, by the way, that if you're running 5400 rpm desk, you install 7200 rpm. All yours performance problems will go away until the day you install it. And then it was 10,000 rpm discs and I was 15,000 rpm disc, and it still wasn't getting fast enough because, you know, you went to Fibre Channel One Gig Fibre channel and then to Geek Fibre, Channel four, Gig fibre, Channel eight, gig fibre channel. The unified connects got faster. The servers got faster. That was more cash on the servers. Then this thing came along, cuts called solid state disc. Right. And then it was it was SLC single layer cell technology. But don't worry about it's very expensive. Not a problem. You only need 4% of your application, right? Jerry? No, no, I'm sorry. percent. No, I'm sorry. 30%. What the heck? You know, M l c is now a little bit more reliable, so let's just make make it all slash. Right? So that was the end of the story, right? No. Servers continue to get faster. Uh, the media continue to get faster and denser, right? So now the interconnect isn't fast enough, So envy me. Is that the answer to life? The universe and everything? Well, wait. I got a better answer for your test. CIA storage class memory in parallel with that. By the way, there are some vendors out there who said that's still not fast enough. We want to put more d ram and the servers and do things in memory. We went in memory databases. I guarantee whatever you do from a media perspective on my personal guarantee to you, it's obsolete by the time you're up and running. By the time you get your applications migrated, configured and running with business value, it's already obsolete. Some vendors got something better coming out. The right answers. This stuff you talked about, the right answer is everything that you're doing for your business. APs. It's a it's a Mel. It's solving the problems in software and, you know, you said we use disc and make it fast. It's not despite itself, of course, right? It's D Bram. It's a lot of the Ram, which, by the way, is orders of magnitude faster than flash the NAND flash. And even if its ECM and still orders of magnitude faster than that, what we use the disk for today in the architecture is the cost factor. We take the random ization out in the flash and we take the >> end and in the in the diagram >> and we used the SAS in the back end to manage costs. But we use it in a way that it performs well, which is highly sequential, massively parallel. And we take full advantage of that Beck and Ben with to do that with that massive dear am front end. Our cash ratios are unparalleled in the industry and and we use it even more effectively that way. But if architecture already evolves, so if if SCM becomes more stable and becomes more cost effective, we can replace that that S S D layer with the cm. And if you know, if the economics of Q L C or something beyond that. Come down will replace the back end with that, do you? Do >> you ever look at what you're doing today as sort of a modern day symmetric. So I mean, a lot of things you just said. I mean, you've got a lot of memory. You've got a massive back end. You know, those were two of the characteristics of symmetric snow. Of course. Fast forward. Whatever. 30 years, right. But a lot of it was sort of intelligence and understanding. Sure. So how data works, is it Is it a fair sort of, or is it radically different? Well, in terms of mindset, I mean, I know the implementation is >> right, right? >> Yeah. I mean, it's not an unfair comparison. I mean, tiered storage was around before some metrics. Right? So it's certainly existed existed then, too. It was just at the time. It was a significant innovation course to layer at the time, right? A big cash front, ending some slower media and then taking advantage of the media on the back end. The big difference today is that if you look at what some metrics became through its Evolution's DMX and V Max and now Power Max. It's still tiered storage, you know, you still have some cash. That's that's for unending some faster media with power. Max, you're you're dealing now with us with an SS a back end. But what happened with those types of architectures is the tearing became more automated. But you're still moving information around. You're still moving Information from one said it This to another set of this leader in the cycle. You're still trying to promote things you know, to to the cash up front. We're doing it in real time. We're >> doing it by analyzing >> the data on the way it comes in. We're reassembling it again, taking the random ization out we're reassembling it and storing it across multiple disks in a way that it it increases our probability of pulling that information associated information back when we need it later. So there's there's no movement. Once its place, we don't have to replace it. You know it's already associated with other data that makes sense, and that gives us a lot of value. >> And secret sauce is the outcome of the secret sauce is you're able to very efficiently. Well, historically, you haven't been able to do a lot of garbage collection, a lot of data movement, and that just kills performance. There's >> really no garbage collection necessary in our in our world way. Also use very modern data structures or patents. Ah, lot of them on our neural cash Deal with the fact that we use a try data structure. So we're not using old fashioned hash tables and you know, l are you algorithms, You know it Sze very, very rapid traverse a ll of these trees >> and you're taking advantage of machine intelligence inside the software architecture. That really is some of the new innovation that really wasn't around to be able to take advantage of that 20 years ago. Maybe it was it was just not cost effective. Do the math was there, put it that the math of the mouth was there and >> there there There's been lots of evolutions of that over the years, a swell, but we continue to evolve and innovate. And, you know, one of the one of the cool things I think about working infinite at is is the multiple multiple generations of engineer where you've got people who understand that math they understand the real nuances of what it means to operate in a world of storage, which is quite a bit different than operating, saying networks or proceed be used because data integrity is paramount. There's lots of lots of things that go on there as well. But we also have younger generations, generations who like new challenges and like to re invent things so they find newer and greater ways to do things. >> This is exciting. So systems, thinkers and I mean server thinkers. I mean, people who understand, you know, systems designed it all the way through and and, you know, newbies who are super smart like you say, wanna learn and solve problems? Go back to the petabytes scale discussion, >> solve problems at petabytes scale, right? Even if the customer doesn't need that necessarily to solve that problem is critically important because even if you look at Les, just take, you know NFS, for example, most NFS systems deal with thousands of objects. Hundreds to thousands of objects are an F s. Implementation deals with billions, right? Do you need billions? How many applications you know that have billions of objects, But being able to do that in a way where performance doesn't degrade over time and also do it in a way where we say our nlm implementation isn't impacted by any any type of service events, we can take a note out, and it doesn't impact in ln There's no no degradation and performance. There's no impact or outage in service. All that's important. Even when you're dealing with smaller application sizes because they add up, they really do add up. He also brought up the point about, you know, density and actually intensity. Great. You know, back 25 years ago, when we were dealing with, you know, the first terabyte storage system, you know, how much how much stories did you have on your laptop? How much you have today, right? You know, you're probably more than a terabyte. They were laughing about putting things terabyte on the floor. And now you get more than a terabyte on your laptop. Things changing? >> Yeah. Um, I wanna ask you where you see the competition. We talked about all flash. We've had a long conversation, long, many conversations in the past about this, But you really, you know, the all flashy kind of described it as a Band Aid, essentially my words, but it was sort of a step function. Okay, great. Um, you have one company, really us who achieve escape velocity in that business in terms of pure But is that where you see in competition and you're seeing it from, you know, the hyper scale er's where you Yeah, you know, >> it's interesting. You know, you look at companies like, you know, we admire what they dio, especially with regard to marketing. They do a really good job of that. They also, um I have some really interesting ideas innovating the media, which is which is great. It helps us in the long run as well. Um, we just look at it as a component of our system, not these system, which makes it different. We don't really see the A f a. You know, the small scale a FAA is are the majority of our competition. We do run into them, but typically it the lower end of the opportunity. Even within the bigger companies that have competitors to those products, we run into them and smaller opportunities, not bigger opportunities where we run into them where there's a significant performance advantage as long as you don't mind the scale out approach to solving the problem. Unfortunately, when you're using a phase two skill out, you know you're putting all of the intelligence requirements on some poor storage administrator or system administrator to figure out what those where right, we take all of that away. So once it starts to scale, that's where we come in a plan. We don't see tons of competition there. Certainly, we're seeing competition from the clouds. And the competition from the clouds is more born of customer mandates and company mandates. Sometimes they I'm not quite sure that everybody knows why there who think to the cloud and we're problem they're trying to solve. But once they start to see a story that says, Hey, if the reasons are and you do understand those reasons, if the reasons are agility and financial flexibility and operational agility not as well as his acquisition agility, you know, we have answers to that and it starts to become a little bit more interesting and compelling. >> All right. One of the highlights of the M world each year is your dinner. Your customer I crashed in a couple of years ago when there were no other analysts there. And then last year again, it was in Vegas. Shows a nice steak house. This year we're in San Francisco, but But I had some great conversations with customers. I remember speaking to one customer about juxtaposing the sand thio to infinite debts platform. And you know the difference. The Sands taken off doing really well, but But he helped me understand the thinking from their standpoint of how they're applying it to solve problems and why v san wasn't a good fit. Your system was, um that was just one of many conversations last year had again other great conversations with customers. What do you do in this year? You have a customer dinner. We are? Yeah. We love to have you in and gave the invitation there. Yeah, the invitation. Is that definitely there? You know, a couple of >> years ago we didn't invite analysts, and you know what it was? It was a mistake. We and we learned that lesson into a large part. We credit you for for showing us how wrong we are. Our customers are very loyal. They're some of the most loyal in the industry. Don't take my word for it going. The gardener Pierre Insights and and look at our numbers compared to everybody else's any pick. Pick a vendor. We're at the top of the list with regard to not only the ratings but, more importantly, the customers willingness to recommend in every category, too. By the way, it's It's not just product quality and performance, and it's it's service support. It's easy doing business. It's an entirely different experience. So we love having the customers there, and the customers love having you there, too. They love having you and your appears in the industry there because they love learning from you and they love answering the questions and getting new insights. And we'd love to have you there. We're gonna be in the Mint this year. San Francisco meant not the not the current one that that's pretty coins, but the original historical site on duh. You know we have. We have invitations out thio to about 130 people because there's only so much room we have it at the event, but we're looking forward to a great time and a great meal and good conversation. >> That's great. Everyone keeps live coverage here in Boston. Messages of AWS reinforce That's Amazon. Webster's his first inaugural commerce around cloud security on John Kerry with David Lantz. One of the top stories here, the announced being announced here reinforced is the VPC traffic nearing and we wanted to bring in alumni and friend Mike Banner was the VP of marketing at a Vectra who specializes in networking. Welcome to the Q. We go way back. HP networking got a hot start up here so wanted to really bring you in to help unpack this VPC traffic mirroring product is probably medias announcement of everything on stage. That other stuff was general availability of security have which is great great product, Absolutely. And guard guard duty. Well, all this other stuff have it. But the VPC traffic nearing is a killer feature for a lot of reasons, absolutely. But it brings some challenges and some opportunities that might be downstream. I don't get the thoughts on what is your take on the BBC traffic nearing >> a tte. The highest level brings a lot of value because it allows you get visibility and something that's really opaque, which is the traffic within the cloud. And in the past, the way people were solving this was they had to put an agent on the workload, and nobody wants that one. It's hard to manage. You don't want dozens to hundreds or thousands of agents, and also it's going to slow things down. On third, it could be subverted. You get the advanced attacker in there. He knows how to get below that level and operated on in a way where he can hide his communication and and his behavior isn't seen. With traffic nearing that, we're getting a copy of the packet from below. The hyper visor cannot be subverted, and so we're seeing everything, and we're also not slowing down the traffic in the virtual private cloud. So it allows us to extract just the right data for a security application, which is our case, metadata and enrich it with information that's necessary for detecting threats and also of performing an investigation. >> Yeah, it was definitely the announcement that everybody has been talking about has the buzz. So from a from a partner perspective, how do you guys tie into that? What do you do? Was the value that you bring to the customer, >> So the value that we're bringing really stems from what you can do with our platform. There's two things everybody is looking to do with him at the highest level, which is detect threats and respond to threats. On the detection side, we could take the metadata that we've extracted and we've enriched. We're running through machine learning algorithms, and from there we not only get a detection, but we can correlated to the workers we're seeing it on. And so we could present much more of an incident report rather than just a security alert, saying, Hey, something bad happened over there. It's not just something bad happened, but these four bad things happen and they happen in this time sequence over this period of time, and it involved these other work looks. We can give you a sense of what the attack campaign looks like. So you get a sense of like with cancer, such as you have bad cells in your liver, but they've metastasized to these other places. Way also will keep that metadata in something we call cognito recall, which is in AWS. And it has pre built analytics and save searches so that once you get that early warning signal from cognito detect, you know exactly where to start looking for. You can peel back all the unrelated metadata, and you can look specifically at what's happened during the time of that incident. In order, perform your threat investigation and respond rapidly to that threat. >> So you guys do have a lot of machine intelligence. OK, ay, ay chops. How close are we to be able to use that guy to really identify? Detect, but begin to automate responses? We there yet eyes. It's something that people want don't want. >> We're getting close to being there. It's answer your first question, and people are sure that they want it yet. And here's some of the rationale behind it. You know, like we generally say that Aria is pretty smart, but security operations people are still the brains of the operation. There's so much human intelligence, so much contextual knowledge that a security operations person can apply to the threats that we detect. They can look at something and say, Oh, yeah, I see the user account. The service is being turned on from, you know, this particular workload. I know exactly what's happening with that. They add so much value. So we look at what we're doing is augmenting the security operations team. We're reducing their workload by taking all the mundane work and automating that and putting the right details at their fingertips so they could take action. Now there's some things that are highly repeatable that they do like to use playbooks for So we partner with companies like Phantom, which got bought by spunk, and to Mr which Palazzo Networks acquired. They've built some really good playbooks for some of those well defying situations. And there was a couple presentations on the floor that talked about those use >> cases. Fan of fan was pretty good. Solid product was built in the security hub. Suit helps nice product, but I'll get back to the VPC traffic, not smearing. It makes so much sense. It's about time. Yes, Finally they got it done. This make any sense? It wasn't done before, but I gotta ask first with the analytics, you and you said on the Q. Before network doesn't lie, >> the network is no line >> they were doesn't lie with subversion pieces of key piece. It's better be the lowest level possible. That's a great spot for the data. So totally agree. Where do you guys create Valley? Because now that everyone's got available BBC traffic mirroring How do you guys take advantage of that? What's next for you guys is that Where's the differentiation come from? Where's the value go next? >> Yeah, there's really three things that I tend to focus on. One is we enrich the metadata that we're extracting with a lot of important data that makes it. It really accelerates the threat investigation. So things like directionality, things like building a notion of what's the identity of the workload or when you're running us on prem. The device, because I P addresses changed. There's dynamic things in there, so having a sense of of consistency over a period of time is extremely valuable for performing a threat investigation so that information gets put in tow. Recall for the metadata store. If people have a data leak that they wanna have ascended to, whether it's elastic or spawn, Kafka then that is included in what we send to them and Zeke formatting use. Others eat tooling so they're not wasting any money there. And in the second piece is around the way that we build analytics. There's always, ah, a pairing of somebody from security research with the data scientist. This is the security researcher explains the tools, the tactics, the techniques of the attacker. So that way, the data scientist isn't being completely random about what features do they want to find in the network traffic. They're being really specific to what features are gonna actually pair to that tool, tactic and technique. So that way, the efficacy of the algorithm is better. We've been doing this for five plus years, and history speaks for something because some of the learning we've had is all right. In the beginning, there were maybe a couple different supervised techniques to apply. Well, now we're applying those supervised techniques with some deep learning techniques. So that way, the performance of the algorithm is actually 90% more effective than it was five years ago. >> Appreciating with software. Get the data extract the data, which the metadata, Yes, you're doing. Anyway. Now, It's more efficient, correct, low speed, No, no problems with informants in the agents you mentioned earlier. Now it's better data impact the customers. What's the What's the revelation here For the end of the day, your customer and Amazons customers through you? What do they get out of it? What's the benefit to them? >> So it's all about reducing the time to detect in the time to respond. Way had one of our fortune to 50 customers present last week at the Gardener Security Summit. Still on stage. Gentlemen from Parker Hannifin talked about how they had an incident that they got an urgent alert from from Cognito. It told him about an attack campaign. He was immediately alerted the 45 different machines that were sending data to the cloud. He automatically knew about what were the patterns of data, the volume of data. They immediately know exactly what the service is that were being used with in the cloud. They were able to respond to this and get it all under control. Listen 24 hours, but it's because they had the right data at their fingertips to make rapid decisions before there was any risk. You know what they ended up finding was it was actually a new application, but somebody had actually not followed the procedures of the organization that keeps them compliant with so many of their end users. In the end, it's saved tremendous time and money, and if that was a real breach, it would have actually prevented them from losing proprietary information. >> Well, historically, it would take 250 days to even find out that there was a breach, right? And then by then who knows what What's been exfiltrate ID? >> Yeah, we had a couple. We had a couple of firms that run Red team exercises for a living come by and they said, I said to them, Do you know who we are? And they said, Of course we know where you are. There's one tool out there, then finds us. It's victory. That's >> a That's a kind of historical on Prem. So what do you do for on Pramuk? This is all running any ws. Is it cloud only? >> It's actually both, so we know that there's a lot of companies that come here that have never owned a server, and everything's been in AWS from day one and for I t. Exactly. And for them waken run everything. We have the sensor attached to the VPC traffic nearing in AWS. We could have the brain of the cognitive platform in eight of us, you know. So for them they don't need anything on prime. There's a lot of people that are in the lift and shift mode. It can be on Prem and in eight of us, eh? So they can choose where they want the brain. And they could have sensors in both places. And we have people that are coming to this event that their hybrid cloud, they've got I t infrastructure in Azure. But they have production in eight of us and they have stuff that's on Prem. And we could meet that need to because we work with the V Top from Azure and so that we're not religious about that. It's all about giving the right data right place, reducing the time to detective respond, >> Mike, Thanks for coming and sharing the insights on the VP. Your perspective on the vpc traffic mirror appreciated. Give a quick plug for the company. What you guys working on? What's the key focus? You hiring. Just got some big funding news. Take a minute to get the plug in for electric. >> Yeah, So we've gone through several years of consecutive more than doubling in. Not in a recurring revenue. I've been really fortunate to have to be earning a lot of customer business from the largest enterprises in the world. Recently had funding $100,000,000 led by T C V out of Menlo Park. Total capitalization is over to 22 right now on the path to continue that doubling. But, you know, we've been really focusing on moving where the you know already being where the puck is going to by working with Amazon. Advance on the traffic nearing. And, you know, we know that today people are using containers in the V M environment. We know that you know where they want to go. Is more serverless on, you know, leveraging containers more. I'm John for Michael David. Want Dave? Lot of strategy being discussed. A lot of new product introductions, availability of things and beta. Michael Dell on stage of Pat Nelson, You're starting to tell a lot of great things. Jeff Clarke, master of ceremonies and here with us, Matt Baker was senior vice president's strategy and playing. Works for Jeff Clarke. Re to see you. Thanks for coming on. >> Thanks for having me. It's great to be back. >> So you're the man behind the curtain for Jeffrey. You get mall. Who's their devices? You sending all the place? He's Tom Brady. You're Bill Belichick. I >> don't have my >> so pretty strategic couple years for del sure. So take a step back because you know one of the luxuries of doing the queue for ten years. As we get some one on ones with Michael, we seem in the hallways. We get the child, then he's very approachable. We talk to him before you went private when he went private or three. Dellums buying him. See? And then when he bought the emcee. So serious conversations. But it's always had that vision of scale. Benefits of that and the numbers were off the chart. People's eyes were popping out their head. So a lot of strategy coming in with the founder with the team pretty impressive. Take us through the pieces on the board, What happened, what didn't have and what could have happened and how it all transpired. >> That's that's a long journey, and it could take a little weight. And second, I think, you know, Michael is a visionary. He's always had a vision for something bigger and certainly the history of del shows that scale matters. And, you know, we we saw display out with our competitors and our strategy versus their strategy. They got smaller, we got bigger and you know, so we're sitting here today. Following all of those moves was a vision tio become that, as Michael would say, essential infrastructure provider and in addition to that not just the physical infrastructure but the logical infrastructure of the management of all that. So vision that Michael saw through to, you know, the acquisition of the M C along with the constituent parts that were the federation inside of there being bm where an opportunity to really bring forward a solutions powerhouse that was ableto address this broad challenge that our customers were having, Which is how do you manage all of this stuff? And, you know, putting a lasso around that and figuring out how to help our customers with what is becoming increasingly complicated. It's not becoming simpler. The individual components are becoming simpler, and that's our job. To make each of those elements more automated more, you know, easy to use, more approachable for more people. But ultimately, people are trying to achieve so much with technology today that you gotta drain away the complexity of that and bring a higher order platform and a higher order operating environment to allow people to really realize their goals. >> And one of the things that you've got to do and your job is you also got not only look at that but also cut through the hype. Sure, I mean how many times we heard the PC is dead. Many times we heard that if you're not here there, you're out of business somewhat true when you have transformational markets. But then the day that the value activities that they're involved in a company is pretty simple, they have operations. They sell a product, good or service. They give it to a customer, they collect cash. At the end of the day, this workload. So you look at everything all things being equal. This is a developer operational and a workload kind of challenge to do something. Certainly pretty much. It's so operation leads a big advantage. >> Well, I think that's what our customers are struggling with is that there are very good reasons to choose different operating environments. I mean, tohave things in different localities. Simply you might want to preposition content like you guys do. I'm sure somewhere behind the Cube is a cdn right for distributing content and so that service benefits from geographic distribution. But you shouldn't have to create a diverse operating environment in order to operate a geographically diverse environment. What we're creating is the singular operational hub for your entire environment. You can run workloads in azure. You Khun, run workloads in eight of us, you Khun run workloads in the four thousand VC PP partners that that Pat mentioned during the key note. And you could do that all through a single operational framework. I don't want to stay single pane of glass, but in essence, the sink. Thank you. Single operational framework that allows you to orchestrate and manage your entirety of your operations. Which allows you to choose the best horse for the given course. >> So strategy guy? Yeah, dial back a few years, even maybe before the acquisition. How clear wasn't you? Was it to you? And what gave you the confidence that acquiring Because you guys were quiz, It'd Dell was inquisitive, and I say a lot of them didn't really pan out the way you had hoped. And you're going to bring in this giant PMC cleanup. VM wears cloud strategy, leverage it across the portfolio. Really, Dr Scale Become that sort of arms dealer, if you will. Sure. What gave you confidence at the time or was it more? Hey, this is a great asset. We'LL figure it out. Can you share with us? >> I think you need to roll the clock back much further to the fact that We were partners for a long time with the emcee, and we were certainly one of the largest. And year by year, the largest or second largest partner to VM were. So we were incredibly familiar with one another and incredibly familiar with our capabilities. We were the early company that worked on. I can't remember what it was called. It might have been Oh, my God. I can't even remember the name of a guy. Integration. No, no, I'm talking about the early visa and implementations that went to market with Dell. Right? So we have been collaborating on hyper Converged. We've been collaborating on Cloud management. We've been working with the emcee years prior. In fact, some of the folks that are appearing on you know your show today. Our people that were my partners ten years ago at that Del. So I think we had the confidence and Michael certainly had a long history with with the organization. And I think he saw on opportunity that there was sort of ah, confluence of of opportunities around, you know, the markets, you know, our ability to pull a deal like that off. But I think ultimately Michael had the confidence that this was going to create a powerhouse and those assets were undeniable. And to some degree, what you were saying about, you know, the sort of these zero some assumptions is like Okay, well, software to find it's going to disrupt traditional race. To the extent that it's going to be, there are no zero sum outcomes in it. We continue on, and those markets continue to be robust. In fact, the storage market has been growing quite robustly, so sort of like this is a set up of capabilities that people need. We need to get bigger, not smaller. >> I buy that and I buy this not a zero sum. I heard Bill Clinton at Adele World years ago talk about how it's not a zero sum game and that I thought was pretty credible. However, historically the IT business has been a winner. Take most you know the leader gets most of the the prophet the second makes does okay and the third kind of barely breaks even. And there is no fourth, fifth and sixth. So it is sort of a winner. Take All are going to take most market, isn't it? >> I think to some degree, but it depends on how you define markets and Barney we all. We all tend to participate and find opportunities. Teo to move and cross into new market areas. Market extension is a a basic of strategy, right? Like look for adjacent sees expend. So there's plenty of room in this three plus trillion dollars market for us all to really participate. The job of strategists and business leaders is what air those best opportunities and how do we get after them? And certainly Michael is proven to be the strategist to figure this out. Like what? What? You know Dell's acquiring A and C. It's like, Yeah, way are you know that >> nineteen ninety billion You grew fifty fourteen percent last year. What? Yeah, >> it's always good that the founder around always great to have that leadership in the history. But one of the things I really like about the strategy that you guys are taking is one. I love the bigger scale leverage. I think that's right on the money. We called that right out of the gate. I'm here in the Q right when it happened, but there's nothing that's emerging. I want to get your thoughts on what? I see this clearly with Google. Google has a sorry sight, reliable engineer, and they run measurement for the massive interest for themselves. They're clouds. Not yet. Translating is no one's like Google, right? There's no enterprise that actually just Google, so it's like a tailored suit for one person. Google Operational Consistency is a huge message here. This year has been for a while. This is really important. I want you to take a minute to explain why that strategy and what the impact will be for customers. >> Yeah, well, I think that you just sort of it's the analog within our customers to what you just described with our business. Achieving scale allows you to accelerate growth. Achieving scale, innit operations allows you to achieve scale and accelerate. Your digital transformation is a customer. So if you're able to create the equivalent of these sightless reliability, in other words, creating a highly scaleable environment, there is no lack of demand, for it fueled innovation in any business anywhere today. That's why we're so bullish on the future that were in the middle of this massive investment cycle of digitizing codifying business process into application and growing the footprint and sort of surface area of all businesses. So if you're able tto create this consistent operating level rather than spending all day down in the plumbing of it all, automate that layer and then focus on the business value. That's if you go look through our studies around, you know, digital transformation. What our customers air doing. It shows that to some degree they face did transformation stall right there. They're like, How do I get everybody aligned to this tea? I've got the business increasingly were like You all need to come together as an organization and focus up and helping our people free up and scale themselves to get closer to the business and really be a part of that sort of strategic discussion for the company. It's the same thing it's achieved. Scale works everywhere, achieve scale, innit Operations frees up time and investment dollars tto help the debs to help the business >> rival revenue to drive revenue well, not justa cost issue. You take away that cost, which is a cost consolidation, cost, leverage, efficiency, et cetera. But the flip side is like Bank of America was saying on the keynote. They gotta know we gotta run their business and make money. So the APP developers are critical. Well, tonight could be a part of the revenue stream, >> and I think the sort of basics of it all is that this wee keeps throwing around the term digital transformation. But at the end of the day, people are codifying business process and their customer experiences and all of that into technology. And that's how they're delivering new business products, new experiences for their customers. You know, I have a branch list bank that I use, I have. You know, I adopted them because the technology was great, right, because their experience of banking through them is amazing. If Andre never >> they know you that its data model, that actually is not an account number and >> absolutely so I think that that's the point you're asking. Why is a consistent operating model important? It helps it achieve scale. And some people say, Well, it's all about developments like them. Look, it's the It's the interplay between ops and death. There's two words there. It's not know ops. It's Dev and Ops and Achieve Scale. You need operators who can achieve scale to achieve scale, you need consistent capabilities. Tooling >> excited. So what you're saying about revenue scale is really important because most big acquisitions, they talk about synergies. That's a code word for cut. You guys grew fourteen percent last year, so I'm sure you have, you know, costs energies. But they're our revenues, energies as well to your point >> and customers as well. >> I think we've just been successful, showing the power of the full portfolio and and that's turned into will make a bigger and bigger bets with you. And during the the Post keynote press briefing, you know, it was stated. Look, you know, people I don't necessarily want more and more and more more vendors. They want fewer more strategic vendors for certain elements, and then they want to look for new innovation in in other areas on. So I think that it's sort of we're benefitting from the fact that we are the company that you could turn to to solve this broad challenge of it, and then you can work with others around your specific vertical, what you might do. We've got a huge network of partners that we work with that can help customers with the spoke applications for their specific vertical health care retail. So on and so forth. So, yeah, I think we value chain in the valley. Twenty infrastructure >> suppliers to your point about that zero sum. Um, uh, thesis is not being zero. Sum is infrastructure loves automation. Automation loves data. So if you have an end to end architecture, you have better data. Correct. You have opportunities, you know, being around automation machine learning, too. Set the standard for the next layer >> up. Well, and that consistency extends all the way across. Right? So if I can create a consistent model, that model is also four out in the data. And then I can create a consistent engine to consume that data to Dr Automation that continues to add value in value in value. So putting that loop around it is hugely important to driving value for our >> customers. Do your kids play? Would you rather you know, they say we gotta like this Really? The hot desert or freezing cold, right. So, Matt, would you rather be a fighter test pilot or a college professor? >> You know, you must have read something from my Twitter feed. I would rather >> you gotta answer. Definitely. Fighter pilot. Fighter pie. Okay. How about would you rather be a professional hunting and fishing guide or professional ocean racing skipper? >> Probably the ocean racing skipper. Although I'd like to be closer to my family. Both of those. You're out out of >> the way with your top five jobs. >> That was Those are my theoretical jobs. I love my job. I don't want a new job. I love my job. Like I don't I don't want to go anywhere. But if that was purely theoretical of it, >> Matt, thanks for coming on the Cube. I'LL give you the final word. In short, what's the core strategy of Adele Technologies? >> Well, I think it's to continue to drive value across the totality of this entity that has so much power. And I hope that's on display. An obvious to you both that we're really pulling together to create solutions that deliver a massive amount of value to our customers. And I think that's unmatched in the industry. Everyone's the live Cube covers here in San Francisco for Google Cloud. Next nineteen. I'm Javert Day Volante here on the ground floor, day two of three days of wall to wall coverage to great guests. We got Kartik lost. Meena Ryan, product management director of Cloud Identity for Google and Kim parent chief security officer for Doctor on Demand. Guys, welcome to the Cube. Appreciated Coming on. >> Great to be here. >> Thank you so honestly Way covering Google Cloud and Google for many, many years. And one of the things that jumps out at me, besides allows the transformation for the enterprise is Google's always had great technology, and last year I did an interview, and we learned a lot about what's going on the chip level with the devices you got. Chrome browser. Always extension. All these security features built into a lot of the edge devices that Google has, so there's definitely a security DNA in there and Google the world. But now, when you start getting into cloud access and permissions yesterday and the Kino, Thomas Kurian and Jennifer Lin said, Hey, let's focus on agility. Not all his access stuff. This is kind of really were identity matters. Kartik talk about what's going on with cloud identity. Where are we? What's the big news? >> Yeah, thank you. So clouded. Entities are solution to manage identity devices and the whole axis management for the clouds. And you must have heard of beyond Corp and the whole zero trust model and access. One thing we know about the cloud if you don't make the access simple and easy and at the same time you don't provide security. You can get it right. So you need security and you need that consumer level simplicity. >> Think it meant explain beyond core. This is important. Just take a minute to refresh for the folks that might not know some of the innovations. They're just start >> awesome. Yeah. So traditional on premises world, the security model was your corporate network. Your trust smaller. Lose The corporate network invested a lot to get to keep the bad people out. You get the right people on and that made ten T applications on premises. Your data was on premises now the Internet being a new network, you work from anywhere. Work is no longer a thing. You work from anywhere. What gets done right? So what is the new access? More look like? That's what people have been struggling with. What Google came up with in two thousand eleven is this model called Beyond Core versus Security Access Model will rely on three things. Who you are is a user authentication the device identity and security question and last but not least, the context off. What are you trying to access in very trying to access from So these things together from how you security and access model And this is all about identity. And this is Bianca. >> And anyone who has a mobile device knows what two factor authentication is. That's when you get a text messages. That's just two factor M. F. A multi factor. Authentication really is where the action is, and you mentioned three of them. There's also other dimensions. This is where you guys are really taking to the next level. Yeah, where are we with FAA and some of the advances around multi factor >> s O. So I think keeping you on the highlight is wear always about customer choice. We meet customers where they are. So customers today have invested in things like one time use passwords and things like that. So we support all of that here in cloud identity. But a technology that we are super excited about the security, Keith. And it's built on the fighter standard. And it's inserted this into your USB slot of that make sense. And we just announced here at next you can now use your android phone as a security key. So this basically means you don't have to enter any codes because all those codes you enter can be fished on way. Have this thing at Google and we talked about it last time. Since we roll our security keys. No Google account, it's >> harder for the hackers. Really Good job, Kim. Let's get the reality. You run a business. You've been involved in a lot of start ups. You've been cloud nated with your company. Now talk about your environment does at the end of the year, the chief security officer, the buck stops with you. You've got to figure this out. How are you dealing with all this? These threats at the same time trying to be innovative with your company. >> So for clarity. So I've been there six years since the very beginning of the company. And we started the company with zero hardware, all cloud and before there was beaten beyond Corp. Where there was it was called de-perimeterization. And that's effectively the posture we took from the very beginning so our users could go anywhere. And our I always say, our corporate network is like your local coffee shop. You know, WiFi like that's the way we view it. We wanted to be just a secure there at the coffee shop, you know, we don't care. Like we always have people assessing us and they're looking at a corporate network saying, You know, where your switches that you're, you know, like where your hardware like, we want to come in and look at all like we don't have anything like, >> there's no force. The scan >> is like way. Just all go to the Starbucks will be the same thing. So that's part of it. And now you know, when we started like way wanted to wrap a lot of our services in the Google, but we had the problem with hip a compliance. So in the early days, Google didn't have six years ago. In our early days, Google didn't have a lot of hip, a compliant services. Now they do. Now we're moving. We're trying to move everything we do almost in the Google. That's not because we just love everything about Google. It's for me. I have assessed Google security are team has assessed their security. We have contracts with them and in health care. It's very hard to take on new vendors and say Hey, is there security? Okay, are their contracts okay? It's like a months long process and then even at the end of the day, you still have another vendor out there that sharing your day, that you're sharing your data with them and it's precarious for me. It just it doubles my threat landscape. When I go from Google toe one more, it's like if I put my data there, >> so you're saying multi vendor the old way. This is actually a problematic situation for you. Both technically and what operate timewise or both are super >> problematic for me in terms of like where we spread our data to like It just means that company every hack against that company is brutal for us, like And you know, the other side of the equation is Google has really good pricing. Comparatively, yes, Today we're talking about Big Query, for example, and they wanted to compare Big Query to some other systems and be crazy. G, c p. And And we looked at the other systems and we couldn't find the pricing online. And, like Google's pricing was right there was completely transparent. Easy to understand. The >> security's been vetted. The security's >> exactly Kim. Can you explain when you said the multi vendor of creates problems for you? Why is this? Is it not so much that one vendor is better? The other assistant? It's different. It's different processes or their discernible differences in the quality of the security. >> There are definitely discernible differences in quality, for sure. Yeah, >> and then add to that different processes. Skill sets. Is that writer? Yes, Double click on that E >> everybody away. There's always some I mean almost every vendor. You know, there's always something that you're not perfectly okay with. On the part of the security is something you don't totally like about it. And the more vendors you add, you have. Okay. This person, they're not too good on their physical security at their data center or they're not too good on their policies. They're not too good on their disaster recovery. Like there's you always give a little bit somewhere. I hate to say it, but it's true. It's like nobody's super >> perfect like it's It's so it's a multiplication effects on the trade offs that you have to make. Yeah, it's necessarily bad, but it's just not the way you want to do it. All right? Okay. >> All the time. So you got to get in an S L A u have meetings. You gotta do something vetting. It's learning curves like on the airport taking your shoes off. Yeah. Yeah. And then there's the >> other part. Beyond the security is also downtime. Like if they suffer downtime. How much is that going to impact our company? >> Karthik, you talked about this This new access mall, this three layer who authentication that is the device trusted in the context. I don't understand how you balance the ratio between sort of false positives versus blocking. I think for authentication and devices pretty clear I can authenticate. You are. I don't trust this device. You're not getting in, but the context is interesting. Is that like a tap on the shoulder with with looking at mail? Hey, be careful. Or how are you balancing that? The context realm? >> Yeah, I think it's all about customer choice. Again, customers have, but they look at their application footprint there, making clear decisions on Hey, this is a parole application is a super sensitive as an example, maybe about based meeting application. Brotherly, not a sensitive. So when they're making decisions about hey, you have a manage device. I will need a manage device in order for you to access the payroll application. But if you have you bring your own device. I'm off perfectly fine if you launch a meeting from that. So those are the levels that people are making decisions on today, and it's super easy to segment and classify your application. >> Talk about the the people that are out there watching might say, You know what? I've been really struggling with identity. I've had, you know, l'd app servers at all this stuff out there, you name it. They've all kinds of access medals over the years, the perimeters now gone. So I got a deal to coffee shop, kind of working experience and multiple devices. All these things are reality. I gotta put a plan together. So the folks that are trying to figure this out, what's that? You guys have both weigh in on on approach to take or certain framework. What's what's? How does someone get the first few steps off to go out towards good cloud identity? >> Sure, I only go first, so I think many ways. That's what we try to simplify it. One solution that we call cloud identity because what people want is I want that model. Seems like a huge mountain in front of me, like how do I figure these things out? I'm getting a lot of these terminologies, so I think the key is to just get started on. We've given them lots of ways. You can take the whole of cloud identity solution back to Kim's point. It can be one license from us, that's it and you're done. It's one unified. You I thinks like that. You can also, if you just want to run state three applications on DCP we have something called identity ofher Proxy. It's very fast. Just load yaps random on disability and experience this beyond >> work Classic enterprise Khun >> Yeah, you run all the applications and dcpd and you can And now they're announcing some things that help you connect back with John Thomas application. That's a great way to get started. >> Karthik painted this picture of Okay, it's no perimeter. You can't just dig a moat. The queen wants to leave the castle. All the security, you know, metaphors that we use. I'm interested in how you're approaching response to these days because you have to make trade us because there are discernible differences with different vendors. Make the assumption that people are going to get in so response becomes increasingly important. What have you changed to respond more quickly? What is Google doing to help? >> Well, yeah, So in a model where we are using, a lot of different vendors were having to like they're not necessarily giving us response and detection. Google. Every service we'd wrap into them automatically gets effectively gets wrapped into our security dashboard. There's a couple of different passwords we can use and weaken. Do reporting. We do it. A tremendous amount of compliance content, compliance controls on our DLP, out of e mail out of Dr and there's detection. There's like it's like we don't have to buy an extra tool for detection for every different type of service we have, it's just built into the Google platform, which is it's It's phenomenal from >> detection baked in, It's just >> baked in. We're not to pay extra for it. In fact, I mean way by the enterprise license because it's completely worth it for us. Um, you know, assumes that came out, the enterprise part of it and all the extra tools. We were just immediately on that because the vault is a big thing for us as well. It's like not only response, but how you dig through your assets toe. Look for evidence of things like, if you have some sort of legal case, you need vault, Tio, you know, make the proper ah, data store for that stuff >> is prioritization to Is it not like, figure it out? Okay, which, which threats to actually go after and step out? And I guess other automation. I mean, I don't know if you're automating your run book and things of that nature. But automation is our friends. Ah, big friend of starting >> on the product measures I What's the roadmap looks like and you share any insight into what your priorities are to go the next level. Aussie Enterprise Focus. For Google Cloud is clear Customs on stage. You guys have got a lot of integration points from Chromebooks G Sweep all the way down through Big Query with Auto ML All the stuff's happening. What's on your plate for road map? What things are you innovating around? >> I mean, it's beyond car vision that we're continuing to roll out. We've just ruled out this bit of a sweet access, for example, but all these conditions come in. Do you want to take that to G et? You're gonna look. We're looking at extending that context framework with all the third party applications that we have even answers Thing called beyond our devices FBI and beyond Corp Alliance, because we know it's not just Google security posture. Customers are made investments and other security companies and you want to make sure all of that interoperate really nicely. So you see a lot more of that coming out >> immigration with other security platform. Certainly, enterprises require that I buy everything on the planet these days to protect themselves >> Like there's another company. Let's say that you're using for securing your devices. That sends a signal thing. I trust this device. It security, passing my checks. You want to make sure that that comes through and >> now we're gonna go. But what's your boss's title? Kim Theo, you report to the CEO. Yeah, Awesome guys. >> Creation. Thank you >> way. We've seen a lot of shifts in where security is usually now pretty much right. Strategic is core for the operations with their own practices. So, guys, thanks for coming on. Thanks for the thing you think of the show so far. It's a little tough for me because I have one of my senior security engineers here, and he's been going to a lot of the events and he comes to me and just >> look at all >> this stuff that they have like, way were just going over before this. I was like, Oh my God, we want to go back to our r R R office and take it all in right today. You know, if we could So yeah, it's a little tough because >> in the candy store way >> love it because again, it's like it's already paying for it. It's like they're just adding on services that we wanted, that we're gonna pay for it now. It's >> and carted quickly. Just get the last word I know was commenting on our opening this morning around how Google's got all five been falling Google since really the beginning of the company and I know for a fact is a tana big day that secures all spread for the company matter. Just kind of getting it. Yeah, share some inside quickly about what's inside Google. From a security asset standpoint, I p software. >> Absolutely. I mean, security's built from the ground up. We've been seeing that and going back to the candy store analogy. It feels like you've always had this amazing candy, but now there's like a stampede to get it, and it's just built in from the ground up. I love the solution. Focus that you found the keynotes and all the sessions that's happening. >> That's handsome connective tissue like Antos. Maybe the kind of people together. >> Yeah. I don't like >> guys. Lend great to see you again. Thanks for coming on. >> Great to see you here in Europe. >> We were just saying it's the first time that we've done this on the continent. So another >> first? Yeah. Another first. Been s so pleased to be in the U. S with you guys, that multiple shows. And now we were here in Barcelona, >> so it's a great venue. We've actually done a number of shows here. Then again, it's a pleasure having you on. Let's see, Let's get right to it. What's going on with you guys and Cisco? You got got some news. Let's talk about >> Absolutely. As you know, we don't stop innovating continuous innovation at Cohesity and a number of new things. So last week we announced a new Cisco validated design with hyper flex and Cohesity integrating for snapshot integration for backup and, of course, instant recovery of that critical data center infrastructure. And we're calling it hyper squared. So you get full hyper convergence for your primary and, of course, your backup. Another secondary application. >> And those guys just want to talk about hype reflects anywhere. Still, so it's like infinitive hype. Infinity, hyper flex, >> hyper square, >> so hyper squared. Love it. So you guys will. How does that work? You'll obviously you want to be the provider of data protection provider from Multi Cloud. That's a huge opportunity. So how do you do that? You'll you'll plug into whatever framework that customer wants. Presumably, a lot of customers wanted the Cisco framework out. Is that all? >> Oh, absolutely. Hit the nail on the head. I mean, Cisco, obviously, one of the most respected leaders in the world, tens of thousands of customers globally depend on them. I'm Francisco alum love being back here at the old stomping grounds and Cisco's been an investor in cohesive he now, since our serious sees. So, they really saw the promise in the benefit of what Kohi City offers with hybrid converge solutions for modern backup recovery. And to your point to the cloud. You know, Cisco's talking a lot about multi cloud here and cohesive E with our native cloud integration helps customers protect those backups on or those applications on hyper flex, and then instantly move them to a cloud of choice. And then, as you've mentioned, Cisco has so many fantastic relationships that there are very strong go to market partner with us. And when customers wanted by solution, they could get the whole solution from Cisco, including Cohesive >> Yulin. We're glad we have you on because connecting the dots between something like hyper converge, which we've been talking about for a number of years now, and how that fits into multi cloud. To some, it's a little clunky sometimes goods like. But I've got my data center. Or am I just doing backup to the cloud? Because what we know is customers, a. Cisco says their data is, you know, kind of de centred. It's no longer in the in the data center of all over the place. Companies like Kohi City can give you that centralized data protection. No matter where your environment is, walk us through what you're hearing from your customers. How they look at kind of their data center versus the multi cloud environment and data protection. >> Yeah, so I think it's Ah, you know, I think customers air now understanding that it's not either or right. There was a time when people thought, Wow, I'm going to move everything to the cloud And I really think there's a maturing of an understanding of what's going to work well for me in this cloud First world, what do I want to put there? And then what am I going to keep on premises? So that's one of the things that Cohee City innovated our core technology. A distributed Web scale file system spanning file system, which spans the data center and the cloud world seamlessly. And what we're seeing is customers air really using the cloud for archiving, getting off of tape because then they get that search capability very easy when they need Teo tearing and then, most importantly, disaster recovery. You know, in the event of something man made or natural, many, many organizations moving to the clouds for their second sight. And with Kohi City, that's very easy to make. That transfer happened in a very seamless way with our capability set. So I think what we're seeing is this really maturing of how customers look at it as a really holistic environment. And so Cisco calling it data centered. But we call this, you know, mass data fragmentation. And then with our spanning file system being able to really consolidate that now >> yeah, another thing that needs that kind of holistic view is security. I know it's something that's in your product. There was a random where announcement that you made last week tells how security fits into this world. >> Yeah, well, you know, I think we all hate to say it, but you know that old phrase, the new normal unfortunately ran somewhere, and malware has become the new normal for organizations of all sizes. You know, here in Europe, we have that off the situation with the N HS in the UK last year. Andi, it's happening everywhere. So you know one element that the's attackers air taking is looking at how to disable backups. And so this is really important that as a part of a holistic security strategy that organizations take a look at that attack vector. So what cohesive he's introduced is really unique. It's three steps. It's prevent its detect, prevent and then recover. So detect in terms of capabilities to see if there are nefarious changes being happened to the file system right, and then prevent with Helios automatically detecting and with our smart assistant providing that notification and then, if need be, recover with our instant mass restore capability, going back to any point in time with no performance issue. This is not taking time for the rehydration spanning file system doing this instantly and allowing an organization to basically say, Sorry, not today, attackers. We don't need to pay you because we can instantly restore back to a safe point in time. >> So let's unpack those a little bit. If we could detect piece, I presume there's an analytics component to that. You're you're observing the the behavior of the of the backup corpus is that right there, Which is a logical place because it's got all the corporate data in there >> that that's correct. So last year we introduced Helios, which is our global SAS space management system, as machine learning capability in it. And that's providing that machine learning based monitoring to see what kinds of anomalies may be happening that is then proactively alerted to the team >> and then the recovery piece, a ce Well, like you said, it's it's got to be fast. Gotta have high performance, high performance data movement, and that's fundamental to your file system. Is that what I'm hearing >> that architecture that's correct. That's one of the differences of our modern backup solution. Versus some of the non hyper converge architectures is the distributed Web file system, which our CEO Motorin, he was formally at Google, helped with developing their file system has what's called instant ability to go back into any point in time and recover not just one of'em, but actually at a v M wear. A couple years ago, we demonstrated thousands of'em is at a time, and the reason for that is this Web scale file system, which is really unique to Kohi City. And that's what allows a nightie organization to not be held hostage because they can not have two potentially spend not just ours, but even days with the old legacy systems trying to rehydrate. You know these backups if they have to go back potentially many months in time because you don't know that that ran somewhere may have been introduced, not say yesterday, but might have been several months ago, and that's one of the key advantages of this instant master store. >> I mean, this is super important rights, too, because we're talking about very granular levels of being able to dial up dial down. You could tune it by application of high value applications. You can. You have much greater granularity some of the crap locations that not, maybe not. It's important. So flexibility is key there. How about customers, any new customers that you can talk about? >> Absolutely. So one of the ones since we're here, it's just go live. So Cisco, along with Kohi City, we've been working with one of the largest global manufacturers of semiconductors and other electronic equipment, Tokyo Electron, based in Tokyo but also here in the U. K. On the continent. And they had one of those older backup solutions and were challenged with time. It was taking them to back up the restores not being predictable. So they've gone with Cohesive e running on Cisco UCS. Because we're a software to find platform. We offer our software on our customers, you know, choice of Certified Solutions and Cisco UCS. And so they've started with backup, but they're now moving very quickly into archiving to the cloud, helping reduce their costs and get off of tape and to disaster recovery. Ultimately, so super excited that together with Cisco, we could help this customer modernized their data center and, you know, accelerate their hybrid clouds strategy at the same time. >> Awesome. And then you guys were also protecting the Sisqo Live network here. What? Tell us about that? >> Yes. Oh, you know, Cisco builds an amazing network here. I mean, you've seen the operations center, a huge team of people. But as we all know, things could go wrong. Potentially. And so we are protecting the critical services that Cisco's providing to all of this is go live attendees here. So should something happen, which I'm sure won't. Kohi City will be used to instantly recover and bring backup critical services like DNA and other areas that they're depending on to serve. All of the thousands of showgoers here. >> So super hot space. We talked about this at PM World. Actually, last couple of years. Just how much activity and interest there is and the whole parlance is changing land on one of you could come and I used to be you back up when the world was tape. Now you're talking about data protection data management, which could mean a lot of things to a lot of people to a storage folks. It's, you know, it's pretty specific, but you're seeing a massive evolution of the space cloud. Clearly is the underpinning of the tailwind on it requires you guy's toe. To respond is an industry and cohesive, specifically is a company. So I wanted to talk about some of those major trends and how you guys are responding and you're leading. And, >> yeah, I think you know, folks have been a little bit surprised, like, Wait a minute. What's this kind of sleepy industry? Why is it getting all this funding? I mean, our own Siri's de funding. Middle of last year, two hundred fifty million dollars. Softbank banked along with Sequoia, of course. But really, the trend, as is being talked about Francisco Live, is data is. I don't want to say the new oil, but it's the water of the world, right? I mean, it's absolutely crucial to any business, the's days other than your talent. It's your most important business asset. >> And >> the pressure on the board and the CEO and the CEO and turn to be agile to do more with that data to know what you have because here we are in Europe, GDP are increasing, regulations is super important. And so you know, this has really brought for be need to create holistic ways to organize and manage and have visibility toe all of that data, and it's massively fragmented. We put out that research last year, massive data fragmentation and most of that data has been kind of under the water line in most people's minds. You know, you think about your primary applications and data that's really only twenty percent, and the other eighty percent in test Evan Analytics and Backup has been pretty fragmented in Siloed, and it hasn't yet had that vision of How could we consolidate that and move it into a modern space until folks like Mode Erin, you know, founded Cohesive E and applied those same hyper converge techniques that he did at new tonics. So I think that this investment just further validates the fact that data is the most important business asset, and people are really in need of new solutions to manage it, protected and then ultimately do Mohr with it gain insights out of it. >> You know, just a couple comments on that one is, you know, data. We always joke about data's the new oil. It's even more valuable because you can use data in multiple places. You can only put oil in your car once. And so so companies of being in and to realize that how valuable it is trying to understand that value, how to protect that and the GPR. It's interesting. It's it's really. The fines went into effect in Europe last May, but it's become a template, a framework globally. People, you know us. Compensate. All right, we gotta prepare for GPR. And then local jurisdictions announced thing. Well, that's a decent starting point. And so it's not just confined to Europe. It's really on everybody's mind. >> It is, and you brought up the cloud before. And you know the cloud is a new way for people to be agile, and they're getting a lot of value out of it. But it also continues to fragment their data and the visibility. No. In talking Teo Large CIA O of, ah, Fortune one hundred large organisation. He's actually has less visibility in many ways in the cloud because of the ease of proliferation of test ever. And that is creating Mohr. You know, stress, I would say in the system and need for solutions to both provide an enhanced set agility. Move data to the cloud, easily move it out when you need to. But also with regulation, be able to identify and delete. As you know, with GPR if needed, the information that you know your customer may ask you to remove from your systems. >> Yeah, well, I love this conversation a little following cohesively because you guys are up leveling the entire game. I've been following the data protection space for decades now, and the problem with data protection is has always been a bolt on, and companies like, oh, he city both with the funding your your vision. He really forcing the industry. They're kind of re think data protection, not as a bolt on what is a fundamental component of digital strategies and data strategy. So it's fun watching you guys. Live coverage in Barcelona for Sisqo Live twenty nineteen. John for Rico's Cube with David Lantz. Our next guest is Wendy Marches, the President of Cisco, E. M. R. Europe, Middle East in Africa and Russia. Welcome to the Cube. >> Thank you. >> Thanks for joining us. >> Great to be here. >> So one of the things themes this year certainly is cloud data center coming together. But the other backdrop is besides security and all of the things going on with data is the global landscape. So Cisco, see, North American Windows were going on their school live? What's happening in Europe? Actually, GPR has been hot in the past year. What's new? What's the scene like here? >> You know, I think that certainly the scene is one of huge excitement, you know, from our customers across the whole region of Europe, Middle East, Africa, Russia. It's an incredibly diverse region. But you know, if you look at the different countries, the different markets one thing that absolutely is a constant theme that we hear is the desire and the appetite to gain the benefit from transformation. You know, in the digital transformation and what that value can be and realizing that. And if we look for ours, you know within within Cisco and the positioning around realizing the secure intelligent platform is absolutely resonating, you know, so things like multi cloud and realizing that reinventing the network, the security challenge and dealing with that, how you address it with the multi domain architecture approach so our customers are really engaged in the conversation, want to learn more, but most importantly, want help with how. Show me how to do it. >> You guys must be leading the conversation within Cisco as your team in Europe, Miller's nephew in Russia. Because the complexity around compliance and data has been front and center Now for twenty four months now hitting mainstream global landscape, this >> is really >> impacting the architecture. We look at the how intent based NETWORKINGS developing policy based fill in the blank two. Connecting to multiple clouds so kind of complex. A whole new architecture. Reimagining networking. How are you guys seeing them? Trends now is it's still at the tipping point is it's still early. What's your? What's your assessment of the role of data as it gets more complex, more compliant, driven? >> So I think that it's certainly if you look for organizations, the power of being able to understand the importance of your data where it resides, being able to demonstrate that having the integrity and the quality of that data is extremely important as well. So there's a heightened awareness in the market for organizations, global organizations who conduct business in a mere, you know, of course, and we are one of those as well. So a knowledge and understanding and appreciation ofthe compliance regulation. It's only going to become Mohr intense, you know, as we go for. So for organizations to really have robust and rigorous processes around, all of that on technology could be an enabler in the process as well. What >> are the >> unique aspects? Wendy Inn in the region, you obviously have visibility. And on what goes on in North America, what's different in Europe, especially in the context of cloud multi cloud? Obviously GPR, although it's a framework now for for for everybody get on the world. But what's unique in the region? >> So I think the uniqueness is, you know, if you look from a multi cloud standpoint, for example, where you know organizations are, have been, I would say depending on some of the countries and markets a little bit more hesitant around a movement to cloud. And now there is a movement. But it's more one of, well, what is appropriate for me. And how do I ensure I can embrace multi cloud in a way that makes sense for my business. So, rather than a full move to public, there has been a selected, you know, based on application of workload environments and also understanding the security, back to compliance. And also the regulation impacts have some of those movements as well. And of course, that depends upon the vertical or the industry in which those organizations are operating. So for those who are highly regulated, like health care, you're the pharmaceutical sector. There's a deep inspect that goes on there as well, so I think there's a further requirement for due diligence around some of those topics as well. >> Well, in the you know, the Snowden backlash had some paranoia for sure, with everybody saw going to go to two or three clouds. And that's clearly not been the case. Yeah, you have no many dozens and hundreds of service providers that air that air specialists obviously in the region. So we heard today about a million end to end architecture, which is a a bold and ambitious vision. You have a technical background as well. I wonder if you could just describe sort of how that's all going toe transpire. How do you take the customers on their journey? What are they asking you for help with? And where do you see it going? >> Yeah. So if you look at, you know from David this morning, David, get clear on what he talks about. So really, you know, for those different domains, there are competencies, you know, if you think so. There's the data center. There is the edge. There was security world, the collaboration world. So the reality of it is, though, that as a cousin, enterprise or any organization indeed consumes those things. They want to be able to work across all of those areas. And they want the innovation to work in a seamless manner. Is that the end of the day? The problem to solve. To simplify for me, Anita automate reduced complexity. I wanna roll and deploy policy and a consistent in cohesive way. So in order to make that happen, you have to have these environments able to talk to each other, but more importantly, pushed that policy in a cohesive manor across these environments. So for us, it's a journey, eh? So it's not something you could do over Nice. You have to work within your engineering teams and your ecosystem in order to bring that to life and do it in a way where the custom consider could consume it. >> I think you really nailed that. We see in the trend as well. This cross domain component with AP Eyes now but you're open are pushing data around you, moving data from point A to Point B. Sounds like networking. To me, policy is important, but the configuration the deployment, which used to be hard, is now being automated. So the question I have for you here in the definite zone means packed People are learning about programming. >> What is the >> impact of all this to developers were trying to build APS and your ecosystem. There's gotta be an opportunity there some Mike go the way of the old guard fade away and some new kinds of providers might rise up. >> Yeah, you know, this huge opportunity here, and I think it's opportunity around the requirement for new skills, new competencies, but also around you capability to bring this the life. Because if you look from a development standpoint, if you look at how you realize value with organizations and where does the money flow between some of these environments is interesting and the ecosystem itself. You know, Francisco, what What I believe makes us even more powerful is bringing to life on them and accelerating with the ecosystem, because at the end of the day, the customer will buy an ecosystem style environment. So for us to be able to work with all of those parties as we have over many years and there will be new players, the I s. P community, the developer community that we work with that will be really powerful >> forces with system growing significantly, ecosystem grow >> Absolutely, absolutely awesome. Example. Just lookit here because of the organizations that are here. >> I think the development trends clearly intersecting with networking as more programmable right? >> Yeah. >> That's the big takeaway for us. You can program the network. You have infrastructure as code. That's the devil. Promise that now here. Question we're looking at is okay. What's it going to be? The impact of value creation. So from a customer, what does it mean to me? So so, as we look at that, I sent the thing about the Cisco original business model enabling technology. How would you answer that Question of what's being enabled today. What's the big half a customer's? What are you guys enabling for your partners in your >> S o? I think a big part of it is we see now a lot of the conversation there's around What is is the use case. So it's not just a I've got some cool stuff. Show me the cost ofthe that work is how do I apply that into my environment to derive value and that value, maybe around efficiency and maybe a brand provisioning in a more rapid manner, automating in a more realized manner. Lots of different instances where organizations they don't see the benefit associated with that, but also it allows them to free up time of their people. And their teams to move into new areas as well as they move their own business models. Because, you know, it's a massive transition that's happening in the industry. Overall, it's not just were not just changing for the sake of change were changing because the market is asking us to do that >> well. And so customers have to make bets on who they're multi cloud providers, maybe, and obviously Cisco's coming out that from a position of networking strength, which is a good place to come from. But there are other there alternatives because the Bigg market headed strategic. What gives you confidence that Cisco's the right solution? What are you telling your customers in that regard? >> So you know, if I look at the, what gives me confidence is the fact that we have an openness. You know, if you look from A from a P I standpoint of developer standpoint, we've always operated in a mode of an openness so that you have an environment where anyone could write to that's people want that it's incredibly importance or not. Having a proprietary stance is very powerful, but I think also being able to work with a ecosystem that's there where you are a dependency on others, and you meet with the meat in the channel on certain solutions and innovations as well. So you empower a greater community to start to drive that acceleration with you? A swell. You know, I will. Look at the you know, we talk about reinventing the network. It's happening. It's happening now, you see, is doing it. And just how important the network is more than ever before in this transition, you know, ran a number of areas with security with policy, and it's way see it come to life now. >> Well, the old saying the network is the computer will do you no. Cisco's the network. Yeah. I gotta ask you about Brexit is someone who's based in the UK thoughts on effects that that has. I mean, obviously, sir Francisco Global Company. But your perspectives on Brexit >> s So if I look for, you know, as someone who lives in the U. K. You know, clearly we hear about brexit a loss, you know, you do in your country as well. And I would say four words. We over. You know what Cisco is? A global company were very fair. We're very familiar with working with these types of instances and situations. The UK remains for us is an incredibly important market and will continue to be on We'll, you know, we'll continue to invest from a capabilities and a skill standpoint, and I think just force now, you know, working with our teams there. I'm making sure that there's we minimize any impacts based on scenarios, you know, to our customers and apartments. The rules get through. >> Rules change. Adept. I >> could ask >> you about our The Russia piece rushes of GDP is about the size of Spain from correct, interesting that you carve that out of a distinct opportunity. How's the business going there and maybe some comments around >> you're so I can't talk directly about business performances were in quiet period. But I guess we call it out specifically because it is not part of Europe, Middle Eastern Africa, but is a very important part of our region of Vermeer. And if I look for cores of, you know, we believe that there is significant opportunity for us in that market. We have a fantastic team that were closely where there again with our customers and partners. And, you know, we believe there's, you know, absolutely opportunity for Sisko in that market >> development team there as well. Our way >> have we have capability there that works locally with all of our all of our teams and, you know, engineering Competent sale steams etcetera as well. Yeah. >> Good. Good math. >> Wendy, how are you guys organized in your territory? How do you guys maintain close to the customer in the countries? Is the country strategy had just people don't. >> It is a country strategy. So we have, you know, about one hundred twenty three countries within a mere on, we have teams that live and operate in all of those countries. That's Avery close to us from a regional perspective. So want team, you know, that really drives that scale. I'm a fantastic opportunity to go and visit those teams. You know, I spent a lot of time on the road on DH. You know, I enjoy Ascend and they do to, you know, >> is there anything you could talk to your customers that are watching here? Anyone interested, as you guys have transformed as a company, Certainly looking what Cisco is done over the past few years a complete transformation building on your base You've been through You've been agile getting nimble being Mohr use case driven Central, Central. What have you learned? What's your learnings? And what would you pay it forward in terms of advice? >> Yeah, So, you know, if I if I look at it, we're not through, we're still you know we're still on the journey and I think a big part of it is accepting and acknowledging a need for change is really important. But a big part of this change is culture. You're a friend of Ford's within Sisko, and the culture of our teams are people on having an attitude in a style of a desire, a curiosity, Onda willingness for change is really, really important. And as we talk about the transformation topic, you need both. You know, technology's incredibly important and powerful, but you need a spirit and a culture and your people in your teams you want to drive that change with you >> in their culture starts in trouble.
