>>Hey everyone, welcome to this event, HPE Compute Security. I'm your host, Lisa Martin. Kevin Dee joins me next Senior director, future Surfer Architecture at hpe. Kevin, it's great to have you back on the program. >>Thanks, Lisa. I'm glad to be here. >>One of the topics that we're gonna unpack in this segment is, is all about cybersecurity. And if we think of how dramatically the landscape has changed in the last couple of years, I was looking at some numbers that H P V E had provided. Cybercrime will reach 10.5 trillion by 2025. It's a couple years away. The average total cost of a data breach is now over 4 million, 15% year over year crime growth predicted over the next five years. It's no longer if we get hit, it's when it's how often. What's the severity? Talk to me about the current situation with the cybersecurity landscape that you're seeing. >>Yeah, I mean the, the numbers you're talking about are just staggering and then that's exactly what we're seeing and that's exactly what we're hearing from our customers is just absolutely key. Customers have too much to lose. The, the dollar cost is just, like I said, staggering. And, and here at HP we know we have a huge part to play, but we also know that we need partnerships across the industry to solve these problems. So we have partnered with, with our, our various partners to deliver these Gen 11 products. Whether we're talking about partners like a M D or partners like our Nick vendors, storage card vendors. We know we can't solve the problem alone. And we know this, the issue is huge. And like you said, the numbers are staggering. So we're really, we're really partnering with, with all the right players to ensure we have a secure solution so we can stay ahead of the bad guys to try to limit the, the attacks on our customers. >>Right. Limit the damage. What are some of the things that you've seen particularly change in the last 18 months or so? Anything that you can share with us that's eye-opening, more eye-opening than some of the stats we already shared? >>Well, there, there's been a massive number of attacks just in the last 12 months, but I wouldn't really say it's so much changed because the amount of attacks has been increasing dramatically over the years for many, many, many years. It's just a very lucrative area for the bad guys, whether it's ransomware or stealing personal data, whatever it is, it's there. There's unfortunately a lot of money to be made into it, made from it, and a lot of money to be lost by the good guys, the good guys being our customers. So it's not so much that it's changed, it's just that it's even accelerating faster. So the real change is, it's accelerating even faster because it's becoming even more lucrative. So we have to stay ahead of these bad guys. One of the statistics of Microsoft operating environments, the number of tax in the last year, up 50% year over year, that's a huge acceleration and we've gotta stay ahead of that. We have to make sure our customers don't get impacted to the level that these, these staggering number of attacks are. The, the bad guys are out there. We've gotta protect, protect our customers from the bad guys. >>Absolutely. The acceleration that you talked about is, it's, it's kind of frightening. It's very eye-opening. We do know that security, you know, we've talked about it for so long as a, as a a C-suite priority, a board level priority. We know that as some of the data that HPE e also sent over organizations are risking are, are listing cyber risks as a top five concern in their organization. IT budgets spend is going up where security is concerned. And so security security's on everyone's mind. In fact, the cube did, I guess in the middle part of last, I did a series on this really focusing on cybersecurity as a board issue and they went into how companies are structuring security teams changing their assumptions about the right security model, offense versus defense. But security's gone beyond the board, it's top of mind and it's on, it's in an integral part of every conversation. So my question for you is, when you're talking to customers, what are some of the key challenges that they're saying, Kevin, these are some of the things the landscape is accelerating, we know it's a matter of time. What are some of those challenges and that they're key pain points that they're coming to you to help solve? >>Yeah, at the highest level it's simply that security is incredibly important to them. We talked about the numbers. There's so much money to be lost that what they come to us and say, is security's important for us? What can you do to protect us? What can you do to prevent us from being one of those statistics? So at a high level, that's kind of what we're seeing at a, with a little more detail. We know that there's customers doing digital transformations. We know that there's customers going hybrid cloud, they've got a lot of initiatives on their own. They've gotta spend a lot of time and a lot of bandwidth tackling things that are important to their business. They just don't have the bandwidth to worry about yet. Another thing which is security. So we are doing everything we can and partnering with everyone we can to help solve those problems for customers. >>Cuz we're hearing, hey, this is huge, this is too big of a risk. How do you protect us? And by the way, we only have limited bandwidth, so what can we do? What we can do is make them assured that that platform is secure, that we're, we are creating a foundation for a very secure platform and that we've worked with our partners to secure all the pieces. So yes, they still have to worry about security, but there's pieces that we've taken care of that they don't have to worry about and there's capabilities that we've provided that they can use and we've made that easy so they can build su secure solutions on top of it. >>What are some of the things when you're in customer conversations, Kevin, that you talk about with customers in terms of what makes HPE E'S approach to security really unique? >>Well, I think a big thing is security is part of our, our dna. It's part of everything we do. Whether we're designing our own asics for our bmc, the ilo ASIC ILO six used on Gen 11, or whether it's our firmware stack, the ILO firmware, our our system, UFI firmware, all those pieces in everything we do. We're thinking about security. When we're building products in our factory, we're thinking about security. When we're think designing our supply chain, we're thinking about security. When we make requirements on our suppliers, we're driving security to be a key part of those components. So security is in our D N a security's top of mind. Security is something we think about in everything we do. We have to think like the bad guys, what could the bad guy take advantage of? What could the bad guy exploit? So we try to think like them so that we can protect our customers. >>And so security is something that that really is pervasive across all of our development organizations, our supply chain organizations, our factories, and our partners. So that's what we think is unique about HPE is because security is so important and there's a whole lot of pieces of our reliance servers that we do ourselves that many others don't do themselves. And since we do it ourselves, we can make sure that security's in the design from the start, that those pieces work together in a secure manner. So we think that gives us a, an advantage from a security standpoint. >>Security is very much intention based at HPE e I was reading in some notes, and you just did a great job of talking about this, that fundamental security approach, security is fundamental to defend against threats that are increasingly complex through what you also call an uncompromising focus to state-of-the-art security and in in innovations built into your D N A. And then organizations can protect their infrastructure, their workloads, their data from the bad guys. Talk to us briefly in our final few minutes here, Kevin, about fundamental uncompromising protected the value in it for me as an HPE customer. >>Yeah, when we talk about fundamental, we're talking about the those fundamental technologies that are part of our platform. Things like we've integrated TPMS and sorted them down in our platforms. We now have platform certificates as a standard part of the platform. We have I dev id and probably most importantly, our platforms continue to support what we really believe was a groundbreaking technology, Silicon Root of trust and what that's able to do. We have millions of lines of firmware code in our platforms and with Silicon Root of trust, we can authenticate all of those lines of firmware. Whether we're talking about the the ILO six firmware, our U E I firmware, our C P L D in the system, there's other pieces of firmware. We authenticate all those to make sure that not a single line of code, not a single bit has been changed by a bad guy, even if the bad guy has physical access to the platform. >>So that silicon route of trust technology is making sure that when that system boots off and that hands off to the operating system and then eventually the customer's application stack that it's starting with a solid foundation, that it's starting with a system that hasn't been compromised. And then we build other things into that silicon root of trust, such as the ability to do the scans and the authentications at runtime, the ability to automatically recover if we detect something has been compromised, we can automatically update that compromised piece of firmware to a good piece before we've run it because we never want to run firmware that's been compromised. So that's all part of that Silicon Root of Trust solution and that's a fundamental piece of the platform. And then when we talk about uncompromising, what we're really talking about there is how we don't compromise security. >>And one of the ways we do that is through an extension of our Silicon Root of trust with a capability called S Spdm. And this is a technology that we saw the need for, we saw the need to authenticate our option cards and the firmware in those option cards. Silicon Root Prota, Silicon Root Trust protects against many attacks, but one piece it didn't do is verify the actual option card firmware and the option cards. So we knew to solve that problem we would have to partner with others in the industry, our nick vendors, our storage controller vendors, our G vendors. So we worked with industry standards bodies and those other partners to design a capability that allows us to authenticate all of those devices. And we worked with those vendors to get the support both in their side and in our platform side so that now Silicon Rivers and trust has been extended to where we protect and we trust those option cards as well. >>So that's when, when what we're talking about with Uncompromising and with with Protect, what we're talking about there is our capabilities around protecting against, for example, supply chain attacks. We have our, our trusted supply chain solution, which allows us to guarantee that our server, when it leaves our factory, what the server is, when it leaves our factory, will be what it is when it arrives at the customer. And if a bad guy does anything in that transition, the transit from our factory to the customer, they'll be able to detect that. So we enable certain capabilities by default capability called server configuration lock, which can ensure that nothing in the server exchange, whether it's firmware, hardware, configurations, swapping out processors, whatever it is, we'll detect if a bad guy did any of that and the customer will know it before they deploy the system. That gets enabled by default. >>We have an intrusion detection technology option when you use by the, the trusted supply chain that is included by default. That lets you know, did anybody open that system up, even if the system's not plugged in, did somebody take the hood off and potentially do something malicious to it? We also enable a capability called U EFI secure Boot, which can go authenticate some of the drivers that are located on the option card itself. Those kind of capabilities. Also ilo high security mode gets enabled by default. So all these things are enabled in the platform to ensure that if it's attacked going from our factory to the customer, it will be detected and the customer won't deploy a system that's been maliciously attacked. So that's got >>It, >>How we protect the customer through those capabilities. >>Outstanding. You mentioned partners, my last question for you, we've got about a minute left, Kevin is bring AMD into the conversation, where do they fit in this >>AMD's an absolutely crucial partner. No one company even HP can do it all themselves. There's a lot of partnerships, there's a lot of synergies working with amd. We've been working with AMD for almost 20 years since we delivered our first AM MD base ProLiant back in 2004 H HP ProLiant, DL 5 85. So we've been working with them a long time. We work with them years ahead of when a processor is announced, we benefit each other. We look at their designs and help them make their designs better. They let us know about their technology so we can take advantage of it in our designs. So they have a lot of security capabilities, like their memory encryption technologies, their a MD secure processor, their secure encrypted virtualization, which is an absolutely unique and breakthrough technology to protect virtual machines and hypervisor environments and protect them from malicious hypervisors. So they have some really great capabilities that they've built into their processor, and we also take advantage of the capabilities they have and ensure those are used in our solutions and in securing the platform. So a really such >>A great, great partnership. Great synergies there. Kevin, thank you so much for joining me on the program, talking about compute security, what HPE is doing to ensure that security is fundamental, that it is unpromised and that your customers are protected end to end. We appreciate your insights, we appreciate your time. >>Thank you very much, Lisa. >>We've just had a great conversation with Kevin Depu. Now I get to talk with David Chang, data center solutions marketing lead at a md. David, welcome to the program. >>Thank, thank you. And thank you for having me. >>So one of the hot topics of conversation that we can't avoid is security. Talk to me about some of the things that AMD is seeing from the customer's perspective, why security is so important for businesses across industries. >>Yeah, sure. Yeah. Security is, is top of mind for, for almost every, every customer I'm talking to right now. You know, there's several key market drivers and, and trends, you know, in, out there today that's really needing a better and innovative solution for, for security, right? So, you know, the high cost of data breaches, for example, will cost enterprises in downtime of, of the data center. And that time is time that you're not making money, right? And potentially even leading to your, to the loss of customer confidence in your, in your cust in your company's offerings. So there's real costs that you, you know, our customers are facing every day not being prepared and not having proper security measures set up in the data center. In fact, according to to one report, over 400 high-tech threats are being introduced every minute. So every day, numerous new threats are popping up and they're just, you know, the, you know, the bad guys are just getting more and more sophisticated. So you have to take, you know, measures today and you have to protect yourself, you know, end to end with solutions like what a AM MD and HPE has to offer. >>Yeah, you talked about some of the costs there. They're exorbitant. I've seen recent figures about the average, you know, cost of data breacher ransomware is, is close to, is over $4 million, the cost of, of brand reputation you brought up. That's a great point because nobody wants to be the next headline and security, I'm sure in your experiences. It's a board level conversation. It's, it's absolutely table stakes for every organization. Let's talk a little bit about some of the specific things now that A M D and HPE E are doing. I know that you have a really solid focus on building security features into the EPIC processors. Talk to me a little bit about that focus and some of the great things that you're doing there. >>Yeah, so, you know, we partner with H P E for a long time now. I think it's almost 20 years that we've been in business together. And, and you know, we, we help, you know, we, we work together design in security features even before the silicons even, you know, even born. So, you know, we have a great relationship with, with, with all our partners, including hpe and you know, HPE has, you know, an end really great end to end security story and AMD fits really well into that. You know, if you kind of think about how security all started, you know, in, in the data center, you, you've had strategies around encryption of the, you know, the data in, in flight, the network security, you know, you know, VPNs and, and, and security on the NS. And, and even on the, on the hard drives, you know, data that's at rest. >>You know, encryption has, you know, security has been sort of part of that strategy for a a long time and really for, you know, for ages, nobody really thought about the, the actual data in use, which is, you know, the, the information that's being passed from the C P U to the, the, the memory and, and even in virtualized environments to the, the, the virtual machines that, that everybody uses now. So, you know, for a long time nobody really thought about that app, you know, that third leg of, of encryption. And so a d comes in and says, Hey, you know, this is things that as, as the bad guys are getting more sophisticated, you, you have to start worrying about that, right? And, you know, for example, you know, you know, think, think people think about memory, you know, being sort of, you know, non-persistent and you know, when after, you know, after a certain time, the, the, you know, the, the data in the memory kind of goes away, right? >>But that's not true anymore because even in in memory data now, you know, there's a lot of memory modules that still can retain data up to 90 minutes even after p power loss. And with something as simple as compressed, compressed air or, or liquid nitrogen, you can actually freeze memory dams now long enough to extract the data from that memory module for up, you know, up, up to two or three hours, right? So lo more than enough time to read valuable data and, and, and even encryption keys off of that memory module. So our, our world's getting more complex and you know, more, the more data out there, the more insatiable need for compute and storage. You know, data management is becoming all, all the more important, you know, to keep all of that going and secure, you know, and, and creating security for those threats. It becomes more and more important. And, and again, especially in virtualized environments where, you know, like hyperconverged infrastructure or vir virtual desktop memories, it's really hard to keep up with all those different attacks, all those different attack surfaces. >>It sounds like what you were just talking about is what AMD has been able to do is identify yet another vulnerability Yes. Another attack surface in memory to be able to, to plug that hole for organizations that didn't, weren't able to do that before. >>Yeah. And, you know, and, and we kind of started out with that belief that security needed to be scalable and, and able to adapt to, to changing environments. So, you know, we, we came up with, you know, the, you know, the, the philosophy or the design philosophy that we're gonna continue to build on those security features generational generations and stay ahead of those evolving attacks. You know, great example is in, in the third gen, you know, epic C P U, that family that we had, we actually created this feature called S E V S N P, which stands for SECURENESS Paging. And it's really all around this, this new attack where, you know, your, the, the, you know, it's basically hypervisor based attacks where people are, you know, the bad actors are writing in to the memory and writing in basically bad data to corrupt the mem, you know, to corrupt the data in the memory. So s e V S and P is, was put in place to help, you know, secure that, you know, before that became a problem. And, you know, you heard in the news just recently that that becoming a more and more, more of a bigger issue. And the great news is that we had that feature built in, you know, before that became a big problem. >>And now you're on the fourth gen, those epic crosses talk of those epic processes. Talk to me a little bit about some of the innovations that are now in fourth gen. >>Yeah, so in fourth gen we actually added, you know, on top of that. So we've, we've got, you know, the sec the, the base of our, our, what we call infinity guard is, is all around the secure boot. The, you know, the, the, the, the secure root of trust that, you know, that we, we work with HPE on the, the strong memory encryption and the S E V, which is the secure encrypted virtualization. And so remember those s s and p, you know, incap capabilities that I talked about earlier. We've actually, in the fourth gen added two x the number of sev v s and P guests for even higher number of confidential VMs to support even more customers than before. Right? We've also added more guest protection from simultaneous multi threading or S M T side channel attacks. And, you know, while it's not officially part of Infinity Guard, we've actually added more APEC acceleration, which greatly benefits the security of those confidential VMs with the larger number of VCPUs, which basically means that you can build larger VMs and still be secured. And then lastly, we actually added even stronger a e s encryption. So we went from 128 bit to 256 bit, which is now military grade encryption on top of that. And, you know, and, and that's really, you know, the de facto crypto cryptography that is used for most of the applications for, you know, customers like the US federal government and, and all, you know, the, is really an essential element for memory security and the H B C applications. And I always say if it's good enough for the US government, it's good enough for you. >>Exactly. Well, it's got to be, talk a little bit about how AMD is doing this together with HPE a little bit about the partnership as we round out our conversation. >>Sure, absolutely. So security is only as strong as the layer below it, right? So, you know, that's why modern security must be built in rather than, than, you know, bolted on or, or, or, you know, added after the fact, right? So HPE and a MD actually developed this layered approach for protecting critical data together, right? Through our leadership and, and security features and innovations, we really deliver a set of hardware based features that, that help decrease potential attack surfaces. With, with that holistic approach that, you know, that safeguards the critical information across system, you know, the, the entire system lifecycle. And we provide the confidence of built-in silicon authentication on the world's most secure industry standard servers. And with a 360 degree approach that brings high availability to critical workloads while helping to defend, you know, against internal and external threats. So things like h hp, root of silicon root of trust with the trusted supply chain, which, you know, obviously AMD's part of that supply chain combined with AMD's Infinity guard technology really helps provide that end-to-end data protection in today's business. >>And that is so critical for businesses in every industry. As you mentioned, the attackers are getting more and more sophisticated, the vulnerabilities are increasing. The ability to have a pa, a partnership like H P E and a MD to deliver that end-to-end data protection is table stakes for businesses. David, thank you so much for joining me on the program, really walking us through what am MD is doing, the the fourth gen epic processors and how you're working together with HPE to really enable security to be successfully accomplished by businesses across industries. Welcome Charlie Mulrooney global presales engineering manager at Athi John saws also of Shi joins this global pre-sales technical consultant. And back with me are Terry Richardson, north American channel chief and Dr. John Fry, chief technologist, sustainable transformation at HPE. Welcome gang. Great to have you all here. >>Thank you, Lisa. Thanks. You good to be here? >>All right, Charlie, let's go ahead and start with you. Keeping the earth sustainable and minimizing carbon emissions. Greenhouse gases is a huge priority for businesses, right? Everywhere. Globally. Can you talk Charlie about what Shi is seeing in the marketplace with respect to sustainable? It? >>Sure. So starting about a year and a half, two years ago, we really noticed that our customers certainly our largest enterprise customers were putting into their annual reports, their chairman's letters, their sec filings that they had sustainability initiatives ranging from achieving carbon neutral or carbon zero goals starting with 2050 dates. And then since then we've seen 20, 40, and 2030 targets to achieve net neutrality and RFPs, RFIs that we're fielding. Certainly all now contain elements of that. So this is certainly top of mind for our largest customers, our fortune two 50 and fortune 500 customers. For sure. We're, we're seeing an onslaught of requests for this. We get into many conversations with the folks that are leading these efforts to understand, you know, here's what we have today. What can we do better? What can we do different to help make an impact on those goals? >>So making an impact top of mind, pretty much for everyone, as you mentioned, John SAS, let's bring you into the conversation. Now, when you're in customer conversations, what are some of the things that you talk about with respect tohis approach to sustainability, sustainable it, are you seeing more folks that are implementing things tactically versus strategically what's going on in the customer space? >>Well, so Charlie touched on something really important that, you know, the, the wake up moment for us was receiving, you know, proposal requests or customer meeting requests that were around sustainability. And it was really around two years ago, I suppose, for the first time. And those requests started coming from European based companies, cuz they had a bit of a head start over the us based global companies even. And what we found was that sustainability was already well down the road and that they were doing very interesting things to use renewable energy for data centers utilize the, they were already considering sustainability for new technologies as a high priority versus just performance cost and other factors that you typically have at the top. So as we started working with them, I guess at beginning it was more tactical cuz we really had to find a way to respond. >>We were starting to be asked about our own efforts and in regards to sustainability, we have our headquarters in Somerset and our second headquarters in Austin, Texas, those are lead gold certified. We've been installing solar panels, reducing waste across the company, recycling efforts and so forth charging stations for electric vehicles, all that sort of thing to make our company more sustainable in, in, in our offices and in our headquarters. But it's a lot more than that. And what we found was that we wanted to look to our vast number of, of customers and partners. We have over 30,000 partners that would work with globally and tens of thousands of customers. And we wanted to find best practices and technologies and services that we could talk about with these customers and apply and help integrate together as a, as a really large global reseller and integrator. We can have a play there and bring these things together from multiple partners that we work with to help solve customer problems. And so over time it's become more strategic and we've been as a company building the, the, the, the, the forward efforts through organizing a true formal sustainability team and growing that, and then also reporting for CDP Ecova and so forth. And it's really that all has been coming about in the last couple of years. And we take it very seriously. >>It sounds like, and it also sounds like from the customer's perspective, they're shifting from that tactical, maybe early initial approach to being more strategic, to really enabling sustainable it across their organization. And I imagine from a business driver's perspective, John saws and Charlie, are you hearing customers? You talked about it being part of RFPs, but also where are customers in terms of, we need to have a sustainable it strategy so that we can attract and retain the right investors we can attract and retain customers. Charlie, John, what are your thoughts on that? >>Yeah, that's top of mind with, with all the folks that we're talking to, I would say there's probably a three way tie for the importance of attracting and retaining investors. As you said, plus customers, customers are shopping, their customers are shopping for who has aligned their ESG priorities and sustainable priorities with their own and who is gonna help them with their own reporting of, you know, scope two and ultimately scope three reporting from greenhouse gas emissions and then the attracting and retaining talent. It's another element now of when you're bringing on new talent to your organization, they have a choice and they're thinking with their decision to accept a role or not within your organization of what your strategies are and do they align. So we're seeing those almost interchangeable in terms of priorities with, with the customers we're talking to. And it was a little surprising, cuz it, we thought initially this is really focused on investors attracting the investors, but it really has become quite a bit more than that. And it's been actually very interesting to see the development of that prioritization >>More comprehensive across the organization. Let's bring Dr. John Fry into the conversation and Terry your next. So stay tuned. Dr. Fry, can you talk about HPE and S H I partnering together? What are some of the key aspects of the relationship that help one another support and enable each other's aggressive goals where sustainability is concerned? >>Yeah, it's a great question. And one of the things about the sustainability domain in solving these climate challenges that we all have is we've got to come together and partner to solve them. No one company's going to solve them by themselves and for our collective customers the same way. From an HPE perspective, we bring the expertise on our products. We bring in sustainable it point of view, where we've written many white papers on the topic and even workbooks that help companies implement a sustainable it program. But our direct sales forces can't reach all of our customers. And in many cases we don't have the local knowledge that our business partners like Shi bring to the table. So they extend the reach, they bring their own expertise. Their portfolio that they offer to the customer is wider than just enterprise products. So by working together, we can do a better job of helping the customer meet their own needs, give them the right technology solutions and enhance that customer experience because they get more value from us collectively. >>It really is better together, which is in a very appropriate name for our segment here. Terry, let's bring you into the conversation. Talk to us about AMD. How is it helping customers to create that sustainable it strategy? And what are some of the differentiators that what AMD is doing that, that are able to be delivered through partners like Shi? >>Well, Lisa, you used the word enabling just a short while ago. And fundamentally AMD enables HPE and partners like Shi to bring differentiated solutions to customers. So in the data center space, we began our journey in 2017 with some fundamental design elements for our processor technology that were really keenly focused on improving performance, but also efficiency. So now the, the most common measure that we see for the types of customers that Charlie and John were talking about is really that measure of performance per wat. And you'll continue to see AMD enabled customers to, to try to find ways to, to do more in a sustainable way within the constraints that they may be facing, whether it's availability of power data center space, or just needing to meet overall sustainability goals. So we have skills and expertise and tools that we make available to HPE and two Shi to help them have even stronger differentiated conversations with customers. >>Sounds like to me, Terry, that it's, that AMD can be even more of an more than an enabler, but really an accelerator of what customers are able to do from a strategic perspective on sustainability. >>You you're right about that. And, and we actually have tools, greenhouse gas, TCO tools that can be leveraged to really quantify the impact of some of the, the new technology decisions that customers are making to allow them to achieve their goals. So we're really proud of the work that we're doing in partnership with companies like HPE and Shi >>Better together. As we said at the beginning in just a minute ago, Charlie, let's bring you back in, talk to us a little bit about what Shi is doing to leverage sustainable it and enable your customers to meet their sustainability goals and their initiatives. >>So for quite a while, we've had some offerings to help customers, especially in the end user compute side. A lot of customers were interested in, I've got assets for, you know, let's say a large sales force that had been carrying tablets or laptops and, you know, those need to be refreshed. What do I do with those? How do I responsibly retire or recycle those? And we've been offering solutions for that for quite some time. It's within the last year or two, when we started offering for them guarantees and assurances assurances of how they can, if that equipment is reusable by somebody else, how can we issue them? You know, credits for carbon credits for reuse of that equipment somewhere else. So it's not necessarily going to be e-waste, it's something that can be recycled and reused. We have other programs with helping extend the life of, of some systems where they look at well, I have a awful lot of data on these machines where historically they might want to just retire those because the, the, the sensitivity of the data needed to be handled very specifically. We can help them properly remove the sensitive data and still allow reuse of that equipment. So we've been able to come up with some creative solutions specifically around end user compute in the past, but we are looking to new ways now to really help extend that into data center infrastructure and beyond to really help with what are the needs, what are the, the best ways to help our customers handle the things that are challenging them. >>That's a great point that you bring up. Charlie and security kind of popped into my head here, John Saul's question for you when you're in customer conversations and you're talking about, or maybe they're talking about help us with waste reduction with recycling, where are you having those customer conversations? Cause I know sustainability is a board level, it's a C level discussion, but where are you having those conversations within the customer organization? >>Well, so it's a, it's a combination of organizations within the customer. These are these global organizations. Typically when we're talking about asset life cycle management, asset recovery, how do you do that in a sustainable green way and securely the customers we're dealing with? I mean, security is top sustainability is right up there too. O obviously, but Charlie touched on a lot of those things and these are global rollouts, tens of thousands of employees typically to, to have mobile devices, laptops, and phones, and so forth. And they often are looking for a true managed service around the world that takes into consideration things like the most efficient way to ship products to, to the employees. And how do you do that in a sustainably? You need to think about that. Does it all go to a central location or to each individual's home during the pandemic that made a lot of sense to do it that way? >>And I think the reason I wanted to touch on those things is that, well for, for example, one European pharmaceutical that states in their reports that they're already in scope one in scope two they're fully net zero at this point. And, and they say, but that only solves 3% of our overall sustainability goals. 97% is scope three, it's travel, it's shipping. It's, it's, it's all the, the, all these things that are out of their direct control a lot of times, but they're coming to us now as a, as a supplier and as, and, and we're filling out, you know, forms and RFPs and so forth to show that we can be a sustainable supplier in their supply chain because that's their next big goal >>Sustain sustainable supply chain. Absolutely. Yes. Dr. John Fry and Terry, I want to kind of get your perspectives. Charlie talked about from a customer requirements perspective, customers coming through RFP saying, Hey, we've gotta work with vendors who have clear sustainability initiatives that are well underway, HPE and AMD hearing the same thing Dr. Fry will start with you. And then Terry >>Sure, absolutely. We receive about 2,500 customer questionnaires just on sustainability every year. And that's come up from a few hundred. So yeah, absolutely accelerating. Then the conversations turn deeper. Can you help us quantify our carbon emissions and power consumption? Then the conversation has recently gone even further to when can HPE offer net zero or carbon neutral technology solutions to the customer so that they don't have to account for those solutions in their own carbon footprint. So the questions are getting more sophisticated, the need for the data and the accuracy of the data is climbing. And as we see potential regulatory disclosure requirements around carbon emissions, I think this trend is just gonna continue up. >>Yeah. And we see the same thing. We get asked more and more from our customers and partners around our own corporate sustainability goals. But the surveying that survey work that we've done with customers has led us to, you know, understand that, you know, approximately 75% of customers are gonna make sustainability goals, a key component of their RFIs in 2023, which is right around the corner. And, and, you know, 60% of those same customers really expect to have business level KPIs in the new year that are really related to sustainability. So this is not just a, a kind of a buzzword topic. This is, this is kind of business imperatives that, you know, the company, the companies like HPE and AMD and the partners like I, that really stand behind it and really are proactive in getting out in front of customers to help are really gonna be ahead of the game. >>That's a great point that you make Terry there that this isn't, we're not talking about a buzzword here. We're talking about a business imperative for businesses of probably all sizes across all industries and Dr. Far, you mentioned regulations. And something that we just noticed is that the S E C recently said, it's proposing some rules where companies must disclose greenhouse gas emissions. If they were, if that were to, to come into play, I'm gonna pun back to Charlie and John saws. How would Shi and, and frankly at HPE and AMD be able to help companies comply if that type of regulation were to be implemented. Charlie. >>Yeah. So we are in the process right now of building out a service to help customers specifically with that, with the reporting, we know reporting is a challenge. The scope two reporting is a challenge and scope three that I guess people thought was gonna be a ways out now, all of a sudden, Hey, if you have made a public statement that you're going to make an impact on your scope three targets, then you have to report on them. So that, that has become really important very quickly as word about this requirement is rumbling around there's concern. So we are actually working right now on something it's a little too early to fully disclose, but stay tuned, cuz we have something coming. That's interesting. >>Definitely PED my, my ears are, are, are perk here. Charlie, we'll stay tuned for that. Dr. Fry. Terry, can you talk about together with Shi HPE and AMD enabling customers to manage access to the da data obviously, which is critical and it's doing nothing but growing and proliferating key folks need access to it. We talked a little bit about security, but how are from a better together perspective, Dr. Fry will start with you, how are you really helping organizations on that sustainability journey to ensure that data can be accessible to those who need it when they need it? And at these days what it's real time requirements. >>Yeah. It's, it's an increasing challenge. In fact, we have changed the H HP story the way we talk about H HP's value proposition to talk about data first modernization. So how often do you collect data? Where do you store it? How do you avoid moving it? How do you make sure if you're going to collect data, you get insights from that data that change your business or add business value. And then how long do you retain that data afterward and all of that factors into sustainable it, because when I talk to technology executives, what they tell me again, and again, is there's this presumption within their user community, that storage is free. And so when, when they have needs for collecting data, for example, if, if once an hour would do okay, but the system would collect it once a minute, the default, the user asks for of course, once a minute. And then are you getting insights from that data? Or are we moving it that becomes more important when you're moving data back and forth between the public cloud or the edge, because there is quite a network penalty for moving that equipment across your network. There's huge power and carbon implications of doing that. So it's really making a better decision about what do we collect, why do we collect it, what we're gonna do with it when we collect and how we store it. >>And, and for years, customers have really talked about, you know, modernization and the need to modernize their data center. You know, I, I fundamentally believe that sustainability is really that catalyst to really drive true modernization. And as they think forward, you know, when we work with, with HPE, you know, they offer a variety of purpose-built servers that can play a role in, you know, specific customer workloads from the largest, super computers down to kind of general purpose servers. And when we work with partners like Shi, not only can they deliver the full suite of offerings for on premise deployments, they're also very well positioned to leverage the public cloud infrastructure for those workloads that really belong there. And, and that certainly can help customers kind of achieve an end to end sustainability goal. >>That's a great point that, that it needs to be strategic, but it also needs to be an end to end goal. We're just about out of time, but I wanted to give John saws the last word here, take us out, John, what are some of the things Charlie kind of teased some of the things that are coming out that piqued my interest, but what are some of the things that you are excited about as HPE AMD and Shi really help customers achieve their sustainability initiatives? >>Sure. Couple comments here. So Charlie, yeah, you touched on some upcoming capabilities that Shi will have around the area of monitoring and management. See, this is difficult for all customers to be able to report in this formal way. This is a train coming at everybody very quickly and they're not ready. Most customers aren't ready. And if we can help as, as a reseller integrator assessments, to be able to understand what they're currently running compare to different scenarios of where they could go to in a future state, that seems valuable if we can help in that way. That's, those are things that we're looking into specifically, you know, greenhouse gas, emissions, relevant assessments, and, and, and within the comments of, of, of Terry and, and John around the, the power per wat and the vast portfolio of, of technologies that they, that they had to address various workloads is, is fantastic. >>We'd be able to help point to technologies like that and move customers in that direction. I think as a, as an integrator and a technical advisor to customers, I saw an article on BBC this morning that I, I, I think if, if we think about how we're working with our customers and we can help them maybe think differently about how they're using their technology to solve problems. The BBC article mentioned this was Ethereum, a cryptocurrency, and they have a big project called merge. And today was a go live date. And BBC us news outlets have been reporting on it. They basically changed the model from a model called power of work, which takes a, a lot of compute and graphic, GPU power and so forth around the world. And it's now called power of stake, which means that the people that validate that their actions in this environment are correct. >>They have to put up a stake of their own cryptocurrency. And if they're wrong, it's taken from them. This new model reduces the emissions of their environment by 99 plus percent. The June emissions from Ethereum were, it was 120 telos per, per year, a Terra terat hours per year. And they reduced it actually, that's the equivalent of what the net Netherlands needed for energy, so comparable to a medium sized country. So if you can think differently about how to solve problems, it may be on-prem, it may be GreenLake. It may be, it may be the public cloud in some cases or other, you know, interesting, innovative technologies that, that AMD HPE, other partners that we can bring in along, along with them as well, we can solve problems differently. There is a lot going on >>The opportunities that you all talked about to really make such a huge societal impact and impact to our planet are exciting. We thank you so much for talking together about how HPE AMD and SSHA are really working in partnership in synergy to help your customers across every organization, really become much more focused, much more collaborative about sustainable it. John we've been watching the evolution of H HP to HPE. We've seen GreenLake when Antonio Neri, I called it. I called it burn the boats. He goes, no, no, no, it wasn't burn the boats. I said, well, okay, burn the bridges. But it was all in on as a service on, on GreenLake. And we're gonna talk about that. Brad Shapiro is here. He's the vice president and managing director of the enterprise business at HPE financial services. Brad. Good to see him. Good to see >>You as well. >>Yeah, you guys got it all started. When, when Antonio kinda laid down, the gauntlet said, this is where we're going. Let's make it happen now. Cause the first place he turned I would imagine is the financial services said, okay, how do we start this today? Can you help us? And they take us back to that >>And yeah, sure. So, you know, uh, yeah, HP financial services, um, it's kind of a foundational element cuz when you think about it, asset management is really what we're doing here. And I know asset management's a, a big word, right? And it can mean lots of things to, to different people. Um, in this context, uh, we started looking at how do customers manage assets over the life cycle and a lot of customers while they were interested in a consumption model and looking at GreenLake for their private cloud, they were certainly looking at public cloud for certain workloads and then maybe even traditional data center for other activities that, that they're running. So it's really that hybrid environment. Uh, but they were stuck going well, Hey, I'm in a CapEx model today. How do I get out of CapEx and really get into this hybrid model? >>And that's where asset management comes in. So one of the, the biggest initial focus is, and we continue to have that focus. We call it our accelerated migration offer and it's really us going in and acquiring the customer assets, moving it on the HPE balance sheet and then figuring out what are we gonna do with those assets, which are gonna stay in use under a consumption model, which are excess. And we can put through our, uh, asset up cycling process, we monetize the majority of that, put that back into reuse and then maybe a small amount gets recycled. So, so really focused on the assets and accelerating customers transition to GreenLake. Did you >>See, or are you seeing a difference between like Le traditional leasing customers who already have kind of on that model versus like what you just described as sort of the, the CapEx was more complicated, you gotta get, I presume procurement involved the legal issues and was there a lot less, was it less friction with the, the leasing customers? Well, >>You know, I, I look at leasing and financing, very similar to CapEx. It's, it's a much more traditional model versus this new as a service experience. Um, so if, if they were in a leasing model, we could convert those leases into GreenLake. I wouldn't say one was any more difficult than the other. Yeah. Um, they were both really traditional mindset, um, and not really looking at a consumption model. So I think we had our fair share of both. And I think we, we have and are able to address both customers moving in into a consumption >>Mode. Right. How does this tie into sustainability? Because you know, we have on one end of the spectrum, the, the high end sustainability, you know, the, the science and sure. And the behind it, tactically speaking companies still now want to operate in this kind of, there's a sustainable angle here. Yeah. Talk about that piece of it. How does that tie in obviously consumption versus CapEx you're building, you're not building, what, what does that thread through the sustainability angle? >>Yeah. So, so first let me just say sustainability is really important to our customers. Um, and, and we're seeing it all over and it is real. Um, the good thing is that you can get business value out of the solutions and have a more sustainable model. So when I think about, and I talk to customers about sustainability, uh, there's a number of fronts they're focused on one, their customers believe it's important, right? So, so they're focused on making sure they're driving sustainable models. Uh, I've seen an increasing number of customers, both commercial and public sector have sustainability requirements in their tenders, in their RFPs. And you have to be able to, to comply with those. Um, second, uh, they, they look at it and go, how do I attract talent? It's increasingly important for them to attract talent. And then really if you, because >>They wanna work for a mission driven company that's >>Sustainable. Absolutely. Absolutely. And, and the third area is investors. You know, the investment community is now looking at ESG and whole and you know, certainly environmental impacts, um, in where they're making an investment. So quick personal story, I was talking, uh, to a friend of mine who works for a hedge fund and he was telling me over the last year, they've hired a whole team. That's focused on just doing analysis of companies, ESG initiatives, determining where they're gonna invest their money. So it's, it's a wall street thing now. So this is real from a number of angles where, where sustainability has an impact. Now, how we play in that. Um, clearly when you go to a GreenLake consumption model, the idea is improving utilization of the asset. So driving higher utilization means you need less assets. You know, over time, the, the secret is we're gonna sell you less, right? >>You're gonna have less assets, but you're gonna have higher utilization. That's good for the environment where HPE Fs comes in is when those assets are done. We put those assets back into reuse. So we have a remark, we have remarketing facilities, one in, in Andover, mass, one in kin Scotland. And then we have 80 different facilities. We have partnerships around the world and our focus is how do we drive more reuse, 85% of the assets we get back, go into reuse. And when you look at servers and PCs and things like that, it's over 95% go into reuse. So a real focus on reuse is good for the environment as well. And then needless to say, the new technology that goes into a GreenLake deal, we're seeing like 30% energy savings coming, coming out of those environments. So all really good stuff related to it's >>Interesting. I mean, a couple points there is one is, you know, Benoff kind of got it all started pre pandemic. He was out talking about, you know, sustainability and ESG. And a lot of people were like, no way. It's all about bottom line profits. And so he was ahead of that. And I guess, you know, back to at least you were, oh, you were always in the residual value game, but now it's a little different, isn't it? Absolutely. It's, it's it's yes. You gotta figure out what the value of that asset's gonna be, but also there's a sustainability aspect of it as >>Well. Yeah, absolutely. And the, the pretty cool thing here is while you drive sustainability, we're also seeing customers that, that go into GreenLake. Um, we had a good example with Kern county, a 42% savings over their CapEx environment when they moved to GreenLake. So it was better for the environment and significant savings. So you can have kind of like have your cake and eat it too. You, you get better environmental, uh, impacts and you're getting better bottom line, uh, performance. >>It's a business case there too do. Now we kind of, I was talking upfront about the, the early days of GreenLake where, you know, they were, it was a financial model. Yeah. And now it's evolving to actually a technology model. We heard Alma with the platform. How has that, or has that changed the way that financial services your >>Group >>Yeah. Approaches the, the, the market. >>Yeah. So, um, yeah, that's a great point. You know, when people talk about GreenLake, they think about the old days. And, and look, I've been around a while. I remember the flex capacity, right? Yeah, of course this isn't flex capacity. I mean, the platform's amazing and it really starts to bring to life the whole thought, when we talk about hybrid, right, there are workloads sure. They might belong best in the public cloud. Right. There, there are workloads that belong best in the private cloud, under the HPE GreenLake model. And there are still workloads that customers may say, Hey, look, I've got legacy applications. I'm gonna continue to run them in a traditional data center. And so from an H P E Fs perspective, you know, we look at this, not as a leasing and financing company, we're looking at this on how do we leverage the customer's existing assets? >>How do we create incremental budget using those existing assets? And then what kind of model best serves that workload? And then how do you optimize the capacity and the spend on that? So, you know, an interesting note in the past year, we put 500 million back into customer budgets by just leveraging their existing it estate. And, and it does, it's not all HPE product, you know, we're, we're, we're monetizing third party products in the data center, in the network, in the workplace. So we can really look at, we call it any tech any time, anywhere we look at all the technology and really assess what's the best way to leverage that investment. Yeah. And, and get the most out of >>It. Yeah. I mean, it's really evolved from just recycling assets for profit, but integrating the business model into the value proposition, the core value proposition in GreenLake. That's great innovation. Um, and, and congratulations on that. Sure. My, my question for you is more kind of zooming out at the market. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, from your perspective in financial services at HPE, what has the pandemic proven to you guys? How has it changed? How you guys work and how has it changed the customer environment? Cuz you mentioned assets. I think real estate. Oh no. One's going back to work. Yeah, no one's been in the office. How has the market changed with hybrids as a steady state now coming outta the pandemic? What are customers doing with the assets? What are some of the trends that you're seeing in the customer base? >>Yeah. So, so look, I'll give you my personal perspective of what I think about as a business leader. And when I talk to customers, I think we're all thinking about the same thing. So I start with experience, what experience do I wanna create for my customers and very closely linked to that, my colleagues, right? So it, the, the people working in our organization, what experience am I creating for them? So they can in turn, create that experience for partners and customers externally. So experience is one thing. The second is innovation, right? We spend a lot of time thinking about what's next? Where do we want to go? What's the innovation and more and more that innovation is all digital, right? So digital transformation is huge within my organization. And it's huge within all of our customers. Dave, I think the last time we talked, I was in my living room on a little laptop screen and zoom and, and I think I use the analogy E every business is now a digital business, even my pizza shop in jerseys. >>Yeah. Right. I mean, everything was online curbside pickup. So what I'm finding is the, the trends in terms of how to leverage technology is how do you create that customer experience? And then how does digital now blend as we're coming out of the pandemic? And, and you're, you know, now able to go into restaurants and stores, how do you blend digital with that in person experience and maybe leverage the best of both. Right. And, and how do you do that in a seamless way to really give customers choice and give them that smooth, seamless experience. So that, that's what I see happening. And you know, what we are trying to do with our asset management plays with the financial modeling we do is how do we get more of that spend going to innovation versus maintenance. And, and that's a big key because, you know, you have to be fast. So I talk about innovation. I talk about customer experience, speed to market. I mean, you know, and the bar keeps getting higher, right? It's like, as soon as you think you're fast, you're slow. We, because you have to keep, it all keeps rolling. >>We heard yesterday on the cube from, uh, one of the HP point, next executives said, you gotta perform and transform >>At the >>Same time at the same time. And you gotta know where the people are gonna land. Absolutely. And how the assets are gonna be distributed. >>And to your point, Brad, you know, from our virtual interview, you're so right. I mean, every business has to be a digital business. And you know, my, my personal story, John, you know, my brother Richie was the executive chef at legal seafood. Right. Pandemic. So then that was a, a place you wanted to go to that restaurant, famous restaurant in Boston when they reopened, they weren't ready. Right. They didn't have the digital story together. They ended up having to, we were just at Smith and Linsky, they ended up selling to Smith and Wilensky's oh, and you, you drive around, you see a lot of these retail businesses is shut down. Yeah. Right. And so, okay. So we're, they weren't able to get through that, you know, cross that chasm in digital transformation. Yeah. A lot of businesses were able to and make it a tailwind. >>Yeah. And, and look, the other thing I think all businesses are focused on right now, uh, with the labor market is talent. And, and so when you think about all of these things tying together, you want to drive, uh, you know, innovation. You want to drive your digital transformation. You wanna make that environmentally sustainable. And, and I think all of that, if you start putting all that together, those are the companies that are gonna attract the talent in the marketplace. I called it burn the boats. Yeah, you guys got it all started. it's kind of a foundational element cuz when you think about it, asset management is moving it on the HPE balance sheet and then figuring out what are we gonna do And I think we, we have and the, the high end sustainability, you know, the, the science and sure. We're pleased to welcome Phil Maru. Who's the executive vice president and general manager of HPE Aruba. And he's joined by David Hughes, the chief product and technology officer at HPE Aruba gentleman. Welcome to the cube. Good to see you. Thank you. Thank >>You. >>Okay, so you guys talk a lot, Phil, about the intelligent edge. Yep. Okay. What do you, what do you mean by that? >>Yeah, so we, well, we're kind of focused on, is providing technology to customers that sits out at the edge and typically the edge would be, uh, any location out of the data center or out of the cloud. So for the most part, our customers would deploy our technology either in their office premises or maybe retail premises shops, uh, maybe deploying out of the home where their employees are on a factory floor. And we're really talking about technology to connect both people and devices back to, um, systems and technology throughout an organization. So, but >>I, I, you know, sometimes I call it the near edge and the far edge yeah. Near, near edge. Maybe as we saw home Depot up on the stage yesterday far, Edge's like space. Right. You're including all of that. Right. That's >>Edge. >>Yeah. And actually we, we, we, you know, we've got a broad range of technology that actually works within the data center as well. So, you know, what we are focused on is providing, uh, network technology, software and services. And, you know, for the most part, our heritage is at the edge, but it's more pervasive than that. So >>If you have the edge, you got connectivity and power, that's an edge. How much, um, is the physical world being connected now you're seeing robotics automation. Yeah. Ex and with machine learning specifically in compute, really driving a new acceleration at the edge. What you, how do you guys view that? What's your reaction? Yeah. >>I think, look, it, I think as connectivity is improving and that's both in terms of wifi connectivity, so, you know, wifi technology continues to, uh, advance and also you've got this new kind of private 5g area, just generally connectivity is becoming more pervasive and that's helping some industries that haven't previously embraced it. And I think industrial is, is one of the big ones. So, you know, historically it was difficult for kind of car manufacturers to really enable a factory floor. But now the connectivity is connectivity is better. That gives them the opportunity to be able to really change how they do things. So >>David, if you do take an outside in view, mm-hmm <affirmative>, uh, and, and, and when you talk to customers, what are they telling you and how is that informing your product strategy? >>Yeah, well, you >>Know, I think there's, there's several themes we hear. One is, you know, it's really important, better work from anywhere they wanna enable their employees, um, to get the same experience, whether they're at home or on the road or in their branch office or at headquarters. Um, you know, people are also concerned that as they deploy, deploy all of this IOT and pursuit of digital transformation, they don't want those devices to be a weak point where someone breaks into one device and moves naturally, um, across the network. So they want to have this great experience for their customers and their users, but they wanna make sure that they're not compromising security, um, in any way. And so it's about getting that balance between ease of use and, and security. That's one of the primary things we hear, >>You know, Dave, one of the things we talked about many, many years ago was when hybrid and was starting to come out multi-cloud was on the, on the table early on. Uh, we were, we were saying, Hey, the data center is just a big edge, right? I mean, if you have cloud operations and you see what's going on with GreenLake here now, the momentum hybrid cloud is cloud operations, right? An edge off data centers to a big edge on premises. And you got the edge as you have cloud operations, like say GreenLake, plugging in partners and diverse environments. You're connecting, not just branch offices that are per perimeter based. You have no perimeter and you have now other companies connecting mm-hmm <affirmative> so you got data and you got network. How do you guys see that transition as GreenLake has a very big ecosystem part of it, partners and whatnot. >>Yeah. So, you know, I think for us, um, the ecosystem of partners that we have is critical in terms of delivering what our customers need. And, you know, I think one of the really important areas is around verticals. So, um, you know, when you think about different verticals, they have similar problems, but you need to tailor the solutions. Um, to each of those, you know, we are talking a bit about devices and people. When you look at say a healthcare environment, there can be 30 devices there for each patient. And, um, so there's connecting all those devices securely, but we have partners that will help pull all of that together that may be focused on, um, you know, medical environment that may focused on stadiums. They may be focused on industrial. Um, so having partners that understand those verticals and working closely with them to deliver solutions is important in our go to market. >>So another kind of product question and related to what you just said, David, I got connectivity, speed, reliability, cost security, or maybe a missing something. But you, you said earlier, you gonna gotta balance those. How do you do that? And do you do that for the specific use cases? Like for instance, you just mentioned stadiums and 81 and how do you balance those and, and do you tailor those for the use cases? >>Yeah, well, I think it depends on the customer and different people have different views about where they need to be. So some people are, are so afraid about security. They wanna be air gapped and completely separate than the internet. That would be one extreme mm-hmm <affirmative> other people, you know, look at it and see what's happening with COVID with everyone working from home with people being able to work from Starbucks or the airport. And they're beginning to think, well, why is the branch that much different? And so what I think we are seeing is, you know, a reevaluation of how people connect to, um, the apps they're using and, uh, you know, you, you, you've probably for sure heard people talking about zero trust, talking about micro segmentation. You know, I think what we we see is that people wanna be able to build a network in a way where rather than any device being able to talk to any device or any person, which is where the internet started, we wanna build to build networks where people or devices can only talk to the destinations that are necessary for them to do their job. >>And so a lot of the technology that we are building into the network is really about making security intrinsic by limiting what can talk to what that's >>Actually micro, micro segmentations, zero trust, um, these all point to a modern, the modern network, as you say, Antonio Neri was just on the cube, talking about programmability, substrate, the words like that come to mind, what is the modern network look like? I mean, you have to be agile. You have to be programmable. You have to have security. Can you describe in your words, what does the modern network these days need to look like? How should customers think about architecting them? What are some of the table stakes and what are some of the differentiators that customers need to do to have a modern network? >>Yeah, well, you covered off a coup a few quarter, one there with clarity and so on. So let me pick one that you didn't mention. And, and I, you know, I think we are seeing, you know, a lot of interest around network as a service. And, you know, when we think about network as a service, we think about it broadly, um, you know, for consumers, we're getting more and more used to buying things as a service versus buying a thing. When you, when you get Alexa, you care about how well she answers your questions, you don't care about what CPU is or how much Ram Alexa has. And likewise with networking, people are caring about the outcomes of keeping their employees connected, keeping their, their devices and systems running. And so what for us, what NASA is all about is that shift of thinking about a network as being a collection of devices that get managed to being a framework for connectivity and running it from the point of view of those outcomes. >>And so whether, you know, it's about CapEx versus OPEX or about do it yourself, managing the network yourself versus outsourcing that, um, or it's about the, you know, Greenfield versus brownfield, each of our customers has got a different starting point, but they're all getting heading towards this destination of being able to treat their network as a service. And so that is, you know, a key area of innovation for us and whether it's big customers like home Depot that you heard about yesterday, um, where we kind of manage everything for them on a, as on a store basis, um, for connectivity, um, or, you know, the recent, um, skew based nest that we launched, which is a really scalable foundation for our partners to build nest offerings around. Um, we see this as a key part of network modernization. Yeah. >>And one of the things, again, that's great stuff. Uh, infrastructure is code, which was really kind of pioneer the DevOps movement in cloud kind of as platform level. And you got data ops now and AI at the top of the stack, we were always wondering when network as code was gonna come, uh, and where you actually have it, where it's programmable. I mean, we all know what policies do do. They're good. That's all great network as code. >>Yeah. >>And that's the concept that's like DevOps, it's like, make it work just seamlessly, just be always on. And >>Yeah. And smart, you know, people are always looking for the, for the easy button. Um, and so they want, they want things to operate easily. They want it to be easy to manage. And, you know, I actually think there's a little bit of a, um, a conflict between networkers code and the easy button, right? So it depends on the class of customers. Some customers like financials, for instance, have a huge software development organizations that are extremely capable that could, that can go with program ability that want things as code. But the majority of the, of, of the verticals that we deal with, um, don't have those big captive software organizations. And so they're really looking for automation and simplicity and they wanna outsource that problem. So in Aruba central, we have invested a lot to make it really easy for our customers to, um, get what they need, you know, is that movement of zero code. It's more like zero code. They want, they want something packaged now >>The headless networks. Yeah. Low code, no code >>Kind of thing. Yeah, that's right. And, you know, obviously for people that have the sophistication that want to, um, do the most advanced things, we have APIs. And so we support that kind of programmable way of doing things. But I'd say that that's that's, those are more specialized customers. So >>Phil, yeah. Uh, is that the strategy? I mean, David listed off a number of, of factors here is that Aruba's strategy to modernize networks to actually create the easy button through network as a service is as simple as dial tone. Is that how we >>Should think? I mean, the way I think about the strategy is I think about it as a triangle, really, along the bottom, we've got the products and services that we offer and we continue to add more products and services. We either buy companies such as silver peak a couple of years ago, or we build, uh, additional products and by, and by the way, that's in response to customers who are frustrated with some other suppliers and wanna move on mass over to, uh, companies like ourselves. So at the bottom layer of the product and services, and then the other side of the triangle one would be NAS, which we talked about, which is kind of move to buying network and as a service. And then the other side of the triangle is the platform, which for us is river central, which is part of HP GreenLake. And that's really all about, you know, kind of making it easy for customers to manage networks and Aruba central right now has got about 120,000 live customers on it. It connects to about 2 million devices and it's collecting a lot of data as well. So we anonymously collect data from all of our customers. We've got one and a half billion data points in the platform. And what we do is we let that data kind of look for anomalies and spot problems on the network before they happen for customers. >>So Aruba central predated, uh, uh, GreenLake GreenLake. Yeah. And, and so did you write to GreenLake through GreenLake APIs? How, what was the engineering work to accomplish that? >>Yeah, so really, um, Aruba central is kind of the Genesis of the GreenLake platform. So we took Aruba central and made it more generic okay. To build the GreenLake cloud platform. And you know, what we've done very recently is bring, bring Aruba into that unified infrastructure, along with storage and compute. So the same sign-on applies across all of HP's, um, products, the same way of managing licenses, managing devices. And so it provides us, uh, great foundation going forwards to, um, solve more comprehensively. Our customers automation requires. >>So, so just a quick follow. So Aruba actually was the main spring of GreenLake from the standpoint of okay. Sing, like you said, single sign on a platform that could evolve and become more, more generic. Yes. So, okay. So that was a nice little, um, bonus of the acquisition, you know, it's now the whole company >><laugh> Aruba taking over. >>Yeah. There's been a lot of work to, to, uh, you know, make it generic and, and widely applicable. Right. Yeah. Um, so, but >>You were purpose >>Built for yeah. Well it's foundational. Yes. So foundational for GreenLake, they built on top of it. Yeah. So you mentioned the data points, billions of data points. So I gotta ask you, cuz we're seeing this, um, copy more and more with machine learning, driving a lot of acceleration, cuz you can do simulations with machine learning and compute. We had Neil McDonal done earlier. He's a compute guy, you got networking. So with all this, um, these services and devices being put on and off the network humans, can't actually figure this out. You can discover what's on the network. How are you guys viewing the discovery and monitoring because there's no perimeter okay. On the network anymore. So I want to know what's out there. Um, how do you get through it? How does machine learning and AI play into this? >>Yeah. I mean, what we are trying to do is obviously flag trends for customers and say, Hey look, you know, we can either see something happening with your network. So there's a particular issue over here and we need to, I dunno, free up more capacity to solve that. Or we're looking at how their network is running and then comparing that with anonymized data from all of our other customers as well. So we're just helping find those problems. But yeah, you're right. I mean, I think it is becoming more of an issue for organizations, you know, how do you manage the network, >>But you see machine learning and AI playing a big part. >>Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I think, uh, AI massively and, and other technology advances as well that we make. So recently we, uh, also announced the availability of location awareness within our access points. And that might sound like a simple thing. But when network, when companies build out their networks, they often lose or they potentially could lose the records as to, well, where were the access points that we laid out and actually where are they not within, you know, 20 feet, but where actually are they? So we introduced kind of location, finding technology as well into our, uh, access points to make it easy for >>Customers. So Aruba one of the best, if not the best acquisition. I think that HP E has made, um, it's made by three par was, you know, good. It saved the storage business. Okay. That was more of a defensive play. Uh, but to see Aruba, it's a growth business. You guys report on it every quarter. Yeah. It's obviously a key ingredient to enable uh, uh, GreenLake and, and a that's another example, nimble was similar. We're much smaller sort of more narrow, but taking the AI ops piece and bringing it over. So it's, it was great to see HPE executing on some of its M and a as opposed to just leaving them alone and not really leveraging 'em. So guys, yeah. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. >>Well, thanks for free with us today. >>Great to be back here after three years away. Yeah. Sit on stage yesterday in front of a massive sea of people. The energy here is electric. Yeah. Must have felt great yesterday, but you, you stood on stage three years ago and said buy 20, 22. And here it is. Yeah. We're gonna deliver our entire portfolio as a service. What was it like to be on stage and say we've done that. Here's where we are. We are a new company. >>Well, first of all, as always, I love the cube to cover HP discover, as you said, has been many, many years, and I hope you saw a different company yesterday. I'm really proud of what happened yesterday, because it was a pivotable moment in our journey. If I reflect back in my four years as a CEO, we said the enterprise of the future will be edge centric, cloud enable and data driven in 2018. And I pledged to invest 4 billion over four years. And you see the momentum we have at the edge with our business. And then in 19, to your point, Lisa, we said, by the end of 2022, we will offer everything as a service. When you look at the floor behind us, everything is a as a service experience from the moment you log through IHP GreenLake platform to all the cloud services we offer. So for me, it is a proud moment because our team worked really hard to deliver on that province on the face of a lot of challenges, >>Tremendous challenges, the last couple years that nobody could have predicted or even forecast, how can we tolerate this? Talk to me about your customer conversations and how they have changed and evolved as every company today has to be a data company. >>Well, even this morning, up to this interview, I already met four customers in, in less than an hour and a half. And I will say all of them, first of all, really appreciated bringing HP discover back. And what they really appreciated was the fact that they had the opportunity to meet and greet and talk to people. The energy that comes from that engagement is second to none. And I think says something right about the moment we are at this time, where the return to work and everything else. I think this is a wake up call in many ways, but customers are telling us is that they want to engage with a partner that has a vision that can take them to their journey, whatever that journey is. And we know digital transformation is core to everything, but ultimately they are now more focused on delivering outcomes for the organization they're running in it. And that's why HP GreenLake is incredible well positioned to do so, you >>Know, just picking up on that. I, I, I counted Antonio. I think I've been to 14 HP and HPE discovers when you include Europe. Yeah. I mean, Frankford, London, Barcelona Madrid, of course, you know the us, and I've never seen why I've tweeted this out. I've never seen this type of energy. Right. People are excited to get back. That's part of it. The other big part of it is course the focus. Yeah. So that focus on as a service was a burn, the boat moment for HPV. >>I don't think it was a burn the boat moment. It was a moment that we have to decide how we think about the future and how we become even more relevant for customers. And we are very important to all the customers they buy from us. Right. But I think about the next 3, 5, 10 years, how we position the company, enter the future to be relevant to whatever they need to do. >>Well, what I mean by that is you're not turning back. No, the bridge is gone. You go, you're going forward. And so my question is, did the pandemic accelerate that move or did it, did it hinder it? And, and, and how so >>Actually it was an, a moment for us to think about how we go further and faster to what we call this journey to one, one platform, one experience. And, and we felt as a team, as an organization, this was a unique moment in time to go further, faster. So to us, it was a catalyst to accelerate that transformation. >>Yeah. Now I, I want to ask you a question in your keynote. I love this, cuz you say I'm often asked by customers, what workload should we move to the public cloud and what should stay on prem? I'm like, yeah, I get that question all the time. And I was waiting for the answer. You said, that's the wrong question. And I was like, wait, but that's the question everybody's asking. So it was really interesting that you said that. And I wonder if you could, you could comment. And I think you said basically the world's hybrid is your challenge with, with the customers in this initiative to actually get people to stop asking that question. Right. And not think about that. >>No, I think the challenge we all collectively have is that how we think about data and how we drive what I call a data first modernization, you know, strategy for our customers in an age to cloud architecture, which basically says you are living a hybrid world is not a question which workloads are put in the public cloud, which workloads are put OnPrem. You know, the, all the issues around data gravity and whatnot is a question of how I bring the cloud experience to all your workloads of data, wherever they live. And that's where, you know, the opportunity really exists. And as customers understand more and more about the new environments, how they work, how they enable these new experiences is all driven by that data. And that data has enormous value. So it's not about which cloud use is about how you bring the cloud experience to your data in workloads. >>When you're talking to CIOs, especially transformational CIOs, what's the value pro to those CIOs that wanna transform and need to transform with the power of HPE. >>More and more of them are becoming conscious about the fact that they need to go faster in everything they do. We have done some interesting analysis with the brands that have done a better job or have become way more proficient on extracting insight from the data. They are actually the brands that winning the marketplace, not just with customers driving the preference, but also in the market capitalization because they become where more sophisticated in driving better efficiency, which is a necessity today. Second is the fact that also they need to improve their security aspect of it, but they are creating new experiences and new revenue streams. And those transformational CIOs are transforming their business in the way they run it into more an innovation engine. And so that's why, you know, we love working with them because they are advanced and the push has to think differently in the way we think about the innovation. How >>Do you help customers go from data, rich insight, port to data, rich insight, rich actions, new revenue, streams, new services. >>Well, first of all, you have to deploy the right architecture, which starts with a network, obviously because digital transformation requires an on-ramp and the connectivity is the first step. Second is to make sure you have a true end to end visibility of that data. And that's why we announced yesterday with the data fabric, right? A, a revolutionary way to think about that age to cloud architecture from a data driven perspective. And then the third piece of this is, is the aspect of how we bring that intelligence to that data. And that's where, you know, we are enabling all these amazing services with AI machine learning with, with, you know, HP GreenLake, which is ultimately the way we are gonna enable them. >>What's your favorite announcement from this week? >>I think HP GreenLake, you know, I think I >>Mentioned a lot of GreenLake, >>36 times HP GreenLake. And to me, you know, as I think about what comes next, right, is about how we innovate now on the platform at the pace that customers are demanding. And so for me, there is a lot of things there, but obviously the private cloud enterprise edition was a big moment for us because that's the way we bring the cloud operating experience on-prem and at the edge, but also all the hybrid capabilities that Brian showed during the demo is something that I think customers now say, wow, I didn't know. We can do that. >>And thinking about your business, you know, despite some macro headwinds and, and like you, you reaffirmed your guidance on the, on the last earnings call. Does GreenLake give you better visibility or is it harder to predict? >>No, I think the more we get engaged with customers in running their workloads and data, the more visibility we get, you know, I said, you know, customers voted with the workloads and data. And in, in that context, you know, we already have 65,000 customers more than 120,000 users. And the one interesting stat, which I hope it didn't go lost during that transition was the, the fact that we now have under the GreenLake management over an next bite of data. And so to me, right, that's a unique, a unique opportunity for us to learn and improve the whole cycle. >>So obviously a big pillar of your strategy is the data. And I wanted, if you could talk more about that because I, I would observe, you know, we, the cube started in sort of as big data, you know, started to take off and you saw that had ecosystem and, and that ecosystem has dispersed now. Yeah. So gone into the cloud, it's got snowflakes pulling and some in Mongo. Now you have the opportunity with this ecosystem yeah. To have a data ecosystem. How do you look at the ecosystem and the value that your partners can build on top of GreenLake and specifically monetize? Well, >>If you walk through the floor, one of the things we changed this time is that the partners are actually in the flow of all our solutions, not sitting on a corner of the show floor, right? And, and, and that's because what we have done in the last three years has been together with our partners, but we conceive HP GreenLake with the partners in mind, at the core of everything we do in the platform. And that's why on Monday we announced the new partner one ready vantage program that actually opens the platform through our APIs for allowing them to add their own value on the platform, whether in their own services to the marketplace or the other way around they to use our capabilities in their own solutions. Because some of these cloud operating capabilities are hard to develop, whether it is, you know, metering and billing and all the other services, sometimes you don't don't have to build yourself. So that's why, what we love about our strategies, the partners can decide where to participate in this broad ecosystem and then grow with us and we can grow through them as well. >>So GreenLake as a service, the focus is, is very clear. Hybrid is very clear. What's less clear to me is, is that I'll and I'll ask you to comment, is this, we go a term called super cloud and super cloud is different than multi-cloud multi-cloud oh, I run in AWS or, and, or I run in Azure. I run in, in, in GCP, Supercloud builds a layer above that hides the underlying complexity of the primitives and the APIs, and then builds new value on top of that, out to the edge as well. You guys talk about the edge all the time. You have Aruba a as an asset, you got space space born. You're doing some pretty edge. Like, well, >>We have it here. Yeah. Yeah. We are connected to the ISS. So if you were to that show floor, you can actually see what's being processed today. >>I mean, that's, you don't get more edge than that. So my question is, is, is that part of the vision to actually build that I call super cloud layer? Or is it more to be focused on hybrid and connecting on-prem to the cloud? >>No, I, I don't like to call it super cloud because that means, unless you are a superpower, you can't do what you need to do. I, I think I call it a super straight okay. Right. That we are enabling to our H to cloud architecture. So the customers can build their own experiences and consume the services that they need to compete and win in today's market. So our H to cloud approach is to create that substrate with connectivity, obviously the cloud and the data capability that you need to operate in today's >>Environment. Okay. So they're fair enough. I would say that your customers are gonna build then the super cloud on top of that software. >>Well, actually we want to give it to them. They don't have to build anything. They just need to run the business. Well, they don't have the time to really build stuff. They just need to innovate that's our, our value proposition. So they don't have to waste cycles in doing so if it comes ready to go, why you want to build it? >>Well, when I say build it, I'm talking about building their business on top of it things you're not gonna, I agree with that, bringing their tools, financial services companies with their data, their tools, their ecosystem, connecting OnPrem to the clouds. Yeah. That above that substrate that's their as a digital. >>Yeah. And that's why I said yesterday with our approach, we're actually enabling customers to power the next generation business models that they need. We enable the substrate, they can innovate on the platform, these next gen business models, >>Tap your engineering mind. And I'd like you to talk about how architectures are changing you along with many, many other CEOs signed a letter to, to the us government, you know, urging them to, to, to pass the chips act. As I posted on LinkedIn, there were, there were a few notables missing apple wasn't on there, meta wasn't on there, Tesla wasn't on there. I'd like to see them step up and sign that. Yeah. And so why did you, you know, sign that? Why did you post that? And, and, and why is that important? >>Well, first of all, it's important to customers because obviously they need to get access to technologies in a more ubiquitous way. And second it's important for the United States. We live in a, in a global economy that today is going to a refactoring of sorts where supply chain disruption has caused a lot of consternation and disruption across many industries. And I think, you know, as we think about the next generation supply chains, which are built for resiliency and obviously inclusion, we need to make sure that the United States address this problem. Because once you fall behind, it takes a long time to catch up. Even if we sign the chips act, it's gonna take many years for us, but we need to start now. Otherwise we never get what we need to >>Get. I, I agree. We're late. I think pat Gelsinger has done a very good job laying out the mission, you know, to bring, I mean, to me, it's modest, bring 20% of the manufacturing back to the us by the end of the decade. I mean that that's not gonna be easy, but even so that's, >>That's, we need stuff somewhere. Absolutely. You know, we are great partners with Intel. I really support the vision that path has laid out. And its not just about Intel again, it's about our customers in the United States, >>HP and HPE now cuz H HP labs is part of, of HPE. I believe that's correct state. Well, >>We refocus HP labs as a part of our high performance. Yeah. And AI business. Yes. >>But H HP and, and now HPE possess custom Silicon expertise. We may, we always >>Had. >>Yeah, exactly. And, and you know, with the fabulous world, do you see, I mean, you probably do in some custom Silicon today that I don't really, you know, have visibility on, but do you see getting more into that? Is there a need for >>That? Yeah. Well we already design more than 60 different silicons that are included in our solution. More and more of that. Silicon is actually in support of our other service experience. That's truly programmable for this new way to deploy a cloud or a data fabric or a network in fabric of sorts. When you look our, our age portfolio as a part of green lake through our Aruba set of offerings, we actually have a lot of the Silicon building. Our switching portfolio that's program. Normally give us the ability to drive intelligent routing in the network at the application layer. But also as you know, many years ago, we introduced our own ILO, the lights out technology, the BMC type of support that allows us to provide security to the root of our systems. But now more implement a cloud operating security environment if you will, but there is many more in the analog space for AI at scale. And even the latest introduction with frontier. When you look at frontier that wonderful high performance exit scale system, the, the magic of that is in the Silicon we developed, which is the interconnect fabric. Plus the smart mix at massive massive scale for parallel computing. And then ultimately it's the software environment that we put on top of it. So we can process billion, billion, square transactions per second. >>And when you think about a lot of the AI today is modeling, that's done in the cloud. When you think about the edge actual real time in, you're not gonna send all that back to the cloud. When you have to make a left turn or a right turn, >>Stop sign. I think, you know, people need to realize that 70% of the data today is outside the public cloud and 50% is at the edge. And when you think about the real time use cases, actually 30% of that data will need to be processed real time. So which means you need to establish inference the rate at the edge and at the same time run, you know, the analytics at the edge, whether it's machine learnings or some sort of simulation they need to do at the edge. And so that's why, you know, we can provide inference. We can provide machine learning at the edge on top of the connectivity and the edge compute or cloud computing at the edge. But also we can provide on the other side, AI at scale for massive amount of data analytics. And >>Will that be part of the GreenLake? >>We already offered that experience. We already offered that as a HPC, as a service is one of the key services we provide at scale. And then you also have machine learning operations as a service. So we have both and with the data fabric, now we're gonna take it to one step forward so we can connect the data. And I think one of the most exciting services, I actually, I'm a true believer. That is the capability we develop through HP labs. Since you asked for that early on, which is called the swarm learning technology. Of >>Course. Yeah. I've talked to Dr. GU about there you >>Go. >>So, so he >>Will do a better job than me explaining, >>Hey, I don't know. You're pretty, pretty good at it, but he's awesome. I mean, I have to admit on your keynote, you specifically took the time to mention your support for women's rights. Yes. Will HPE pay for women to leave the state to have a medical procedure? >>Yeah. So what happened last week was a sad moment in a history. I believe we, as a company felt compelled to stand up and take a position on the rights of women to choose. And as a part of that, we already offer as a part of our benefits, the ability to travel and pay all the medical expenses related to their choice. >>Yeah. Well thank you for doing that. I appreciate it. As a, as a father of two daughters who have less rights than, than my wife did when she was their age, I applaud you for your bravery and standing up and, and thank you for doing that. How excited are you for Janet Jackson? >>I think is gonna be a phenomenal rap of the HP discover, I think is gonna be a great moment for people to celebrate the coming together. One of the feedback I got from the meetings early on from customers is that put aside the vision, the strategy, the solutions that they actually can experience themselves is the fact that the, the, the one thing that really appreciated it is that they can be together. They can talk to people, they can learn with each other from each other. That energy is obviously very palpable when you go through it. We've been having some great conversations today. So far. We've got three full days coming at you. This is close to the end of day one. We're gonna have an interesting conversation next with a may the executive vice president and chief people officer at HPE. Alan. Welcome to the cube. >>Thanks Lisa. Great to be here. Thanks Dave. >>It's great to be back in person. The keynote this morning, standing room, only people are ready. People are ready to be back to hear what HPE has been doing the last couple of years since the last conference, but I've heard you and Antonio talk about the human side of change. It's challenging humans. Humans are uncomfortable with change, right? Unfortunately we are, but it is a big challenge. How, what are some of the things that you're seeing as organizations are really looking and have to transform digitally? They gotta bring the humans along >>Well. You know, our folks as anybody is just bombarded with data these days bombarded with issues and, and it's really down to share of mind when it comes down to it. If, if you're asking someone to change first, you gotta break through the clutter. There's so many things going on in their world and in their life as individuals. But to me, the foundation is you really have to define what is the mission and purpose of the organization, and then make sure that individual feels safe and comfortable participating at work. I know those sound like soft things, but at the end of the day, you're not gonna have the gumption or the desire to change unless you care about something bigger than yourself and that you feel safe bringing your authentic self to work. >>So you have to be kind of, yeah. Have to be good at sales, I guess, because you have to sell the mission. Well, what do you do if somebody's not comfortable? If they, how do you get them to align? I mean, you, you, it's always a challenge. And that's like, I think what makes the people side of the equation so hard? What's your sort of secret sauce there? >>Well, I wouldn't say it's secret sauce, but you know, we define our mission is improving the way people work and live. Now that sounds so general. But the good thing about that is I think about every one of our 60,000 associates around the world can write theirselves into that mission. Sign >>Up >>For that. Yeah. It's not so specific that you think am I opting in, I am opting out. The other piece is you've gotta give employee voice. You have to give your team members an opportunity, not just to, you know, follow blindly, whatever you're saying, you don't want that. You actually want them to challenge it. You want 'em to say, Hey, what does that really mean, Alan? What does that mean, Antonio? When you say we're improving the way, you know, people work and live, what does it mean when we say commit and go or force for good, these are not just pithy phrases. They're ways to engage dialogue. That's how you get people to think and to create and innovate and to change >>And creating that employee experience and changing that and, and transforming that as obviously the world change, especially the last couple of years, but the employee experience and what they think. And are they, are we part of the vision? Are we, part of the mission is directly relates to the customer experience. Those two things to me are inextricably linked well >>In, in our company, it's all about innovation, but not innovation just for the sake of designing things, but to meet customer needs. So you've actually gotta inculcate in your workforce. A couple of things. One obviously is that freedom to be creative, but the other piece is actually actively listening to our customers and recognizing and understanding what they need and how we can satisfy those needs. When you can bring both of those things together, I tell you, you can do all kinds of things with your workforce. >>So, I mean, I'm hearing you obviously look for common ground, but sometimes there's, there's the dissonance, right? The, you know, creating that great human condition might not necessarily be advantageous for short-term profits. You're a public company. So, so how what's that discussion like, and, and, and I presume there's gotta be a long-term vision, but still how, how do you handle those types of >>Things? Well, that, that's what I call dynamic tension. Good, great organizations, encourage dynamic tension. They don't simply ask people to blindly adhere to whatever they're saying. They actually ask their employees to think and to create and to debate and to argue respectfully, of course, that's how you really get to that virtuous circle of innovation and people moving forward. Now, look, I, I'm not naive. We don't have 60,000 team members totally aligned on every point every day. But I think we've got the vast majority knowing ultimately where we're going. And frankly, some of the fun is figuring out how to get there. And that means that you've gotta have those open discussions to get there. >>Well, you talk about dynamic tension and at the first sort of thought of it, it sounds like it can be a challenging thing, but it also sounds like it can really be an accelerant to the culture and the ability for the company to move forward and obviously meet those customer demands. >>Well, if you're defining what's new in the world, that's the only way you get there because nobody has, you know, basically a lock on innovation or what's the best next thing. When you have the power of bringing a diverse set of individuals together and really create forms for them to explore debate, argue, as I mentioned, that's where you really move forward. >>How do you think about how, how, how has your thinking changed? The company's thinking changed post pandemic with regard to hybrid work, you have something Elon Musk, you gotta come to work at least 40 hours, or you're gone. We, we, we heard someone on wall street have similar things, say similar things and others have said, Hey, we have no headquarters anymore. You know, we're moving to, you know, someplace remote what's H HP's point of view on >>That. Well, thanks for that question in particular. And Dave, what you outlined is we seem to have a world of two extremes out there. Yeah. Where either companies say it's back to the old days pre COVID and you're not working unless I see the sweat on your brow and you're there at eight o'clock on Monday morning, then we have other companies say, Hey, it doesn't matter. Mail it in wherever you are around the world. You know, we're in between that, we think it's important that people do get together face to face. And in fact, we've asked our team members to come back a couple of three days a week in the office, but to do it in a purposeful, thoughtful way, it doesn't mean just coming in, swiping your bad shame that you were there. It means coming in to collaborate, to meet with customers, to celebrate, to innovate, to work with groups. >>So what we're trying to do now is orchestrate those moments that matter for our team members, for a reason, for them to be together. Now, there's no reason for them to come in the office. If they're on zoom or team meetings all day, we know that. But the fact is we believe that our culture thrives when people get together at least a bit during the week. So we're looking for that happy medium. I can't say we've got it all figured out, but I can tell you right now, we're not on those two extremes. We're absolutely center the plate. >>So you encouraged that. That was a great description. If somebody says, Hey, but I, I really want to go move to Bozeman, you know, and hang out there and I'll work remote and I'll, I'll be productive. You, you enable that as well. Or would you discourage that? Yeah. We've >>Hired people all over the world and we actually have people based upon their job classified. If they're so-called hybrid employees, the, the, the situation I mentioned, which is you're not required to come to the office, but we encourage it. In some cases we do have telecomm commuters. If they have the kind of job where they can work from Bozeman or from Bangalore or from any place else, we're open to that as well. Cuz we don't wanna rule out that talent. But the vast majority of our folks, we'd like to be pretty close to one of our centers of excellence to one of our offices, to one of our locations because that fuels our customers, our, our culture, and really it creates community. Now I can't predict the future, but frankly, a lot of the issues that we've seen through a, the, the pandemic around mental health, around isolation, around increased stress, those are not all gonna go away because people are getting back together. But I do think that the pandemic accelerated and exacerbated, some of those conditions, people do want to be together and we're gonna make that happen. >>I, I can't predict the future, but I often try and I, I predict, I think the hybrid model, it will be the dominant model going forward. And I think that that, that smart organizations will put incentives in place to get people together. Not, oh, you won't get promoted. No, but you're gonna, you're gonna actually enjoy getting together periodically with, with your teammates and we're gonna support you, you know, wherever you want to live. >>Yeah. >>What are some of the key skill sets these days that HPE is looking for to attract these folks in an increasingly digital world? What are some of those things you say ABC gotta have it. >>Well, interesting. You ask that. Get asked that question a lot. And people expect me to say, they gotta know C plus plus they've gotta, you know, know all the latest on AI. They gotta be a mathematical wizard to do all kinds of things that we do in algorithms. You know, it's not, it's not those factors. It's the behavioral factors. We're looking for people. First of all, that have intellectual curiosity. They thrive to learn. They thrive to innovate. They don't want to just do a job. They want to come in and they want to create something big. So I think that's first and foremost, the second one is we look for people that have some resiliency have they had in their experience broadly in life ever had to deal with stress with resistance, with, you know, uncomfortable situations. Not because that's our work environment, but because that's the world, the world is an actively changing one. >>And we need people who have got that resilience and that intellectual curiosity to kind of move forward. And then last but not least. And this goes back to our founder DNA. I, I talk about this a lot. Our founders, bill and Dave talked a lot about basic things, respect for one another collaboration, teamwork. That's our culture. Now that's not the culture that a lot of other firms have out there. And in some companies they have maybe a harder edge, but those are the things that really propel our organization. Those are the things our customers appreciate the most. >>What's your point of view on the, the so-called great resignation? Is it a sort of a media created dynamic? Is it something that is maybe a, a somewhat of a knee jerk reaction in the post isolation economy? How do you think about that? >>You know, I, it's real obviously, and, and we've seen some uptick in our, our turnover, although I'm happy to say our turnovers a half to a third of what our competitors are. So we, we seem to have been able to retain our folks pretty well. But I do think that coming out of the pandemic was a, an inflection point. For many people. It was such a searing experience in so many ways. It caused people to really reflect and say, do I want to do something different now? That's great. But I'd like to have them do something different in HPE, if they're one of our employees. So what we're focusing on is gigs. What's your next opportunity to learn something new, do something new, move to a different area. You know, we used to call it career development. Those days are gone of just job ladders and wait for the next job and wait for the next promotion. It's all about how can you give someone a new opportunity and challenge them. And when you're able to do that, I think you can create a real positive dynamic that results in greater retention. But I do think the great resurrection it's real, it's gonna persist one other data point. Well, before COVID supply and demand, I'm an economist, not a psychologist. And at the end of the day, we have fewer and fewer people available to do the kinds of work that we're trying to hire. So those two factors together do create some, some turnover. >>You know, what's interesting is certainly pre pandemic. The prediction was that machines were gonna replace humans, which has always happened, but for the first time ever, it's in cognitive functions. And there's a lot of concern in the press about, you know, the impact on, on jobs and employment seems like the reverses happened, which is often the way, but, but, but longer term, what's your point of view on, on, on that, that piece of, of the equation, people are talking about digital transformation, AI, we see robotic process automation. Initially, a lot of employees are really concerned. Whoa, they're gonna replace my job. We've certainly seen that. And you know, if you were, you see kiosks at the airport, people used to actually put up, you know, billboards and with, with the glue and paper and you know, those jobs are gone, but now other jobs are, are, are at risk. How do you think about that? What, what should companies like HPE and society do to help people get to the point where they can thrive in that environment? >>Yeah. Look, I, it, it's an observation that, that I could say based upon my career, I've seen for many, many years, I can remember back manufacturing when at least from a us perspective, many of those manufacturing firms were shedding jobs because of automation. And there are short term disruptions and those are real. Those are human. And we do have to help people through those. Now I think one obligation an employer has, is let's start with our own folks. Let's make sure we retrain them. Let's make sure we expose them to the latest skills. Let's give them an opportunity to grow and develop. So I think if we do those things, we can help people through those transitions over the long haul. I'm actually very optimistic. I believe that over time, people self-select, these things don't happen overnight. I'll give you one tiny little anecdote before the pandemic. All of this world about autonomous vehicles can eliminate truck drivers. Well, you know, back in the day I actually drove a truck and it's not just driving. You've gotta interact with somebody in a dock door. You've gotta do all kinds of other tasks that can't be automated. And so things will happen over time, but I don't think we're gonna see this massive social disruption people were worried about. There is an incumbent responsibility on firms to train their own people and to keep them up to speed. And that's something we're deeply committed to at HPE >>Is information technology, employment, a parallel. I mean, everybody thought the cloud was gonna destroy the it, you know, worker that didn't happen. They just sort of changed their skillset. They became, you know, cloud experts or cloud architects. Is there a parallel there? >>Yeah, I think there's absolutely a parallel. And while probably the, the rate of change is quicker in, in some tech industries than perhaps others. All we're doing is creating new markets and new opportunities. And ultimately the lack of, of skill that we have, the lack of talent in the external marketplace is gonna mean that it's still very much an opportunity for people to learn, grow, develop, and be employed. >>Do you think that's, it's a matter of, of, of awareness on people not really understanding that whether it's still fear? >>Well, I, I think there may be some of that, but again, I, I, I do think from a, a broader social perspective, there's probably some things that in the public policy we can do to improve education and training, particularly for new entrants and make sure they're learning the skills for tomorrow's jobs and not just today's, but can I'm optimistic. And I actually think most responsible companies get this. And if you talk to their CEOs, the top tier or three issues that they have include access to talent. So why don't we recycle repurpose and reuse to use the sustainability phrase instead of throwing people outta work that have all kinds of intellectual property and capability to be very productive. And that's what we do at HPE. >>And that curiosity, that's something that you can't teach, right? Exactly. Have it, or >>You don't. Exactly. >>So last question, in terms of, of looking at culture corporate culture, as a, as an accelerant, as a catalyst of digital transformation, how do you advise leadership teams? >>Well, I, we've done a fair amount of work in the last five years, defining the culture in very small frankly soundbites. And the way you make that come to life is back what I mentioned before. You have to engage people and ask them to debate it. What does it mean to say, commit and go? What does it mean to say force for good, those kind of conversations, help your culture evolve, help your culture become real and not just a bunch of words on some piece of paper or, or posters someplace. I will say from my experience, and, and particularly with a new entrance to the workforce, if you can't define your culture quickly for this next generation coming in, you're, you're, there's no way you're gonna attract that talent. And so put me on the spot. HPE is here to help people live and grow and work better, and we try to be a force for good. We focus on that and we create work that fits your life. Not the other way around. That's my elevator speech. It sounds pithy, but it's an invitation to have a deeper discussion. >>I love it. And I think this is only day one for us here, but I think that we're, we're seeing, and we're feeling that culture there's 8,000 or so HP folks, executives, partners, customers, ready to come back and innovate with each other. We've got a couple of guests here with us next, gonna be talking about industry transformation, please. Welcome, brought off director of global industry and sustainability marketing and Andy Hulk, halter senior director at worldwide industry sales programs, guys from HPE. Thanks for joining us. You bet. >>Thank you for having to >>Be here, >>Industry transformation. That's a big term. It's not a new concept, but we see so much going on. Andy, talk to you about industry transformation, from your perspective, where are customers, how are they capitalizing to really make data a true currency? >>Right? Well, underlying all this is, is the data that is becoming so complex, but at the same time, there's specialization required in each industry with the different applications that the industries are running and our ability to bring that forward and connect all those things is a big trend going on. And as we see that developing over time, um, we're getting more, um, connecting those different applications that are running is becoming more, uh, every day we're doing more of that. >>One more. >>So where do you wanna start? What's your favorite industry to, to transform? Uh, I mean, financial services is, you know, got the right, the whole blockchain thing going on, uh, industry 4.0 and manufacturing, you know, retail, everybody has, uh, you know, an Amazon war room, you know, energy now with EVs and, and solar and everything else and the price of oil. And, and now you throw in inflation and supply chain and you, I mean, it's just, every industry is getting disrupted. I, I wanna make an observation. You guys tell me what you think. Yeah. You know, think about the, the incumbent industries. They, they generally have data at the outskirts. It's all siloed and they're trying to put it at the core and that's a big challenge for them. What are you guys seeing in terms of who is having success with that? Do you have examples? What role do you play? Yeah, we have so much to talk about, right? Yeah. >>Yeah. Let me I'll jump in here. Um, I mean, I think one of the unique ideas is all this interest industries you mentioned, there are all trying to learn from each other, right? If you're a financial institution, you wanna understand what retail is doing because you wanna serve your customers better. Right. You wanna look at, you know, some of these technologies, how they're being applied. Um, you look about like sustainability industries are trying to learn how to do that better from each other. So there's this notion of industry and transformation is it's kind of twofold. It's one. How are these industries almost like entering new markets? I mean, you look at, at all the tech, tech companies out there, they're all getting in into payments, for example. Right. You know, Google pay app. Yeah. Mm-hmm <affirmative> so that's just like one example of where you're seeing the kind of, that, that blurring of lines between industries happening >>Content, uh, Amazon getting into grocery. And so in, in the premises, that data is the enabler. I mean, right. For decades, we've seen a, a, a stack, a vertical stack within an industry where, yeah. Where, whether it's, you know, research and development, manufacturing, sales, and distribute marketing, you were in that industry stuck for life. Right. And now all of a sudden data allows you to traverse industries. Yeah. This dual disruption agenda that you mentioned, right? >>Yeah. It's, it's, it's really, as it's core is because these companies have the ability to take advantage of that data even more. And they're trying to serve their customers even better that that's kind of opening up these new doors for them to, to do that because that's, you know, and again, there's so many good examples out there. Uh, automobile manufacturing are looking towards the gaming industry, you know, to how do they design controls, you know, that kind of stuff is, you know, as example. So you see, you know, all kinds of that. You mentioned also that, you know, everybody's trying to bring the data to the core. I don't, I don't think that's necessarily true. I think you heard earlier today in the keynote, you know, that that companies want to be able to, to take advantage of the data, data, wherever it is. Um, if it's the edge and a factory floor, if it's in a, you know, it's patient data sitting somewhere, you want to, you know, handle it where it is, and there's a cost to doing that, to bring it all >>Together. Yeah. So by the way, I wanna clarify you're absolutely right. The data by its very nature is distributed. Sure. When I say core, I mean, put it at the core of their business. Sure. That's >>What, I mean, >>Fair enough by data first, but your point is really, we're gonna talk about that. Yeah. Because it brings, brings so many other challenges with how you deal with that. But please jump in Lisa. Yeah. >>I was just gonna ask you, Brad, you talk about the blurred lines between industries. Yeah. And talk to us about how is HPE a facilitator of those industries learning from each other. You have such breadth in so many different industries as Dave mentioned, but how are you that enabler, if you will, of allowing them to, to be able to have data be that key. >>Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think it just comes through the experience of working with these customers, um, you know, in these various industries. And then, um, there's so many times where customers come to us and they want us brief and again, they wanna learn for these other industries. So we're an aggregator of that technology. We obviously UN understand the technology with the cloud or, you know, edge or, you know, anything we're doing in with data. So we're using those, you know, those lessons and just applying those out there, um, you know, to those industries. So it's, I think it's just us as an aggregator. >>You, you, how how's the customer experience changing any we heard from home Depot this morning, they were focused on the customer experience and, and their associate experience. Right? Yeah. Bringing those together maybe. >>Well, you know, what we also heard this morning is the different personas, right. That are out there and being that are looking to transform their business. Yeah. And each of those personas is still linked together by the data, but they want to use it in different ways with different applications and the ability to connect all those things. Again, they're learning from each industry. So what home Depot learns about their mobile apps, maybe something that we can deploy in, uh, manufacturing, um, as far as locating things on the floor and connecting the edge data in, bring it in to, and then use that to analyze, use AI models, to do predictive behavior, uh, preventative maintenance, all these things are similar uses of connecting the data, but then applying to the specific industry use case. Yeah. And that pivot of that horizontal use of the data into those specific demands by, uh, at the personas within the, the, the different industries is what we're, we're >>Focused on. Yeah. And the technology is like an accelerate, you know, here. So you're think about like something like 5g, right. 5g is gonna accelerate, you know, a lot of transformation in various industries. Um, throughout that, I mean, tech, you know, the technology alone is not really what the, the, the customer cares about it. They, they care about what do I do with that? What kind of outcome can I get? Right. >>I wanna ask you, Andy, about the customer conversations, you talked about the personas, we've been talking about data democratization for a very long time. Mm-hmm, <affirmative> obviously is a challenging thing to do, but how were you seeing customer conversations, change and evolve, especially over the last couple of years where every L B has to have access to data and be a driver of its value. >>Right. Well, the customer, you know, historically H HP's, uh, background is in infrastructure and we've served industries in the data center for a legacy, right. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, but now they're saying it's more, you know, I've gotta talk to, uh, more people in my business as a data center owner, I've gotta serve these folks, understand their business. And as a supplier, to me, you need to understand them as well. And sometimes help me with that conversation and help me see the things to make those connections that I may not know as a data, you know, as a, as an it professional. Um, and how do we challenge the business to think about different ways of doing things in the industry? So how do we, we think about, um, you know, bringing those connections from other industries in, and, and, uh, uncovering, uh, opportunities or problems anticipating problems in those deployments that they may not have seen by their staying in their swim lane. >>Yeah. You know, I'm, I'm touring on this topic because on the one hand, I think about the, the big data era and, and, and I know a, of, a lot of failures to, to return, you know, the expectations and it wasn't a fail fast. It took a decade, you know, to get there. And part of the failure domain was to your earlier point, Brett, everything was sort of shoved into this centralized location. Yeah. You have this hyper specialized data team, and everybody has to go through them, but organizations I think are now realizing it, like, like your thoughts on this, that data has to go out to the lines of business. It has to be contextualized. People are now talking about building data products and monetizing data. And yeah, that's really, to me what digital transformation is about. So, but generally speaking, most companies are not great at data. They have a lot of data. Yeah. A lot of, lot of data line around insights. I think we heard in the morning keynote are scarce. Right. So what's your vision for how this evolves? >>Yeah. I think, I think, you know, from the data perspective that again, the, at the core is how do I serve my customer better? Right. So, you know, whether that is actual, you know, customer data that you want to sort of up personalized offers for, or, you know, make decisions of, you know, medical decisions for their, you know, for their, you know, better patient outcomes. So if they keep that in mind, then, you know, as far as how it's used by the different lines of business there, you know, that's where we can help facilitate, you know, in many ways. And that's where, you know, cloud becomes a, you know, a really key technology, um, you know, having that flexibility to, to move it around as needed, create the, you know, um, deliver the workload where the customer needs it, that, you know, that sort of idea is, is where we're, we're going with this. >>I think, yeah. I'd, I'd like to give you an example, um, please, in the FSI industry, uh, out here on the floor, we've got a demo on payment systems, right. And we've been doing that, uh, with our nonstop, uh, product and supporting that, uh, in the, in the banking industry for 10 years or more. And it's evolved over time to be one of the, you know, it's a ubiquitous across the, in the support. Yeah. Um, but now we're talking about new regulations with all the global events that are going on, you know, crazy stuff that more pressure on the banks to, to comply with that, um, worries about money laundering and fraud prevention. Well, connecting those, the data from those payment systems into the AI modeling that is now being deployed to do more sophisticated fraud detection and Mon money laundering detection and all of those kinds of things, how you connect those together as an example, what we're seeing, how we get more insights by, uh, by the combination that we can bring together. >>And the insights is critical. Yes. Right. I mean, without it, the data isn't very useful. >>Right, right. Right. And I think even, you know, these, these concepts like swarm learning right. Where you're actually trying to aggregate a lot of those, you know, a lot of that data and, and provide, you know, even a broader data set to, to learn from is even, you know, more beneficial. >>I think the, when you think about the, the principles of this, this decentralized world, that's that it starts with an organization saying, look, we recognize that we can't shove it all into a data warehouse or a data hub or a single data lake. Yeah. We're gonna have all of those. And those are just kind of nodes in the mesh, like it's steel as Youma the GHI term <laugh> and, and, and, and increasingly data as product that can be monetized. We're hearing a lot more about this, and those are organizational yeah. Considerations. I mean, HPE can maybe facilitate that through whiteboard sessions, but, but the, that leads to, in order to, to democratize data, I need self-service infrastructure and I need data that can be shared and governed. I, I don't know about the last one, but you definitely are. Number three self-service infrastructure simplification. Yeah. Your version of cloud. How do you see that, uh, your, your role in that little vision that I just laid out? Do you buy that? >>You wanna take that or, >>Well, I, I think that we have, um, we definitely, because we, we see the data in all these different places and we're, we're trying to be agnostic to, um, you know, where it comes from, who owns it. It's how do you get it together and make it useful? And you don't have to capture it. You don't have to own it, but you may own some of it. You may borrow some of it. You may rent some of it. You may buy it and you may bring it together and they'll use it for the purpose. And then move on to expand into new things that you learn from that you may then monetize, um, in all those different ways. So we have a role of making that platform in a way that you can see it in different ways and use it consistently and repetitively and GRA gain more value of it, and then apply your applications and, you know, all those other things that you do. But that, that bringing together agnostically is a big part of our offering. >>And, and am I, am I not correct? I'm in my thinking on H HP's value is providing that infrastructure, uh, to be able to do just, just that that's your swim lane, if you will. And >>It is, but we're being asked to move up the stack and provide not only the infrastructure now, the platform, the ability to offer that platform, uh, in our HPE GreenLake offering where we're, we now can, you know, have cloud-like services on prem. It doesn't really matter where the data sits, um, and then plug in the applications and even manage those applications for the >>Customers. Okay. So, I mean, I see you as I, as, and Paz, which that up to stack yeah. The ability to, okay. I want whatever Python or open shift, I wanna build applications now on that. Interesting. The management piece is something I, I excluded, um, be because an organization may say, Hey, we need help managing this stuff. Right. But I see that, that I, as in pass, as infrastructure, you're not getting into applications where you're getting, you're not >>No other than letting, letting customers, you actually build on top of that. Right. Right. There's a >>Lot of customer, you're an enabler. >>Absolutely. Yeah. You look at some of the things we're doing with, you know, with our escrow platform and things like that. Right. You know, we're providing that development platform in a, in a really streamlined way of, of, you know, pushing, you know, applications out. I mean, little known fact, right. Is that most banks right now are hiring more developers right now than, than finance people. So all these, all these industries are becoming tech companies and that's, you know, that's the whole launch of the FinTech industry many years ago, and it's, you know, continued to evolve >>And they want to bring AI, they wanna bring data into their applications. And you, HPE I see is an enabler of >>That. Absolutely. Absolutely. >>Give us last question. As we wrap up here, give us the vision, like the next five years, what are some of the industry transformation elements you are forecasting if you have a crystal >>Ball. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think number one, just an increased focus on personalization and customization. Uh, you know, you look at, you know, personalized offers when you add location based services, things like that, combined 5g, you know, like all this technologies, you're seeing a lot of that custom manufacturing, so those kind of trends are gonna continue. And we know that's, you know, those are the workloads that we gotta, you know, know know is coming, you know, down the pike and, and, and address those. Um, secondly I think AI, right, AI is gonna, is gonna be, you know, it's gonna impact every industry in a big, big way. You know, when like Andy talked right about, you know, fraud detection, uh, you know, manufacturing, robotics, those kind of things. Uh, and then I think, um, you know, lastly, just, just this more convergence, you know, of these industries, right. You know, tech is just, you know, impacting everything in such a big way. And so you're gonna see more of that, that blurring of lines between, between industries. So they jump into jump outta their normal swim lanes. Right, right. >>Be between machine learning and AI, we're gonna see efficiencies by doing things better, with less, uh, deviations and driving, uh, lower cost. And we're gonna see new capabilities come to the forefront and that's gonna be consistent across all industries. And it's gonna be based on the data. Both of those require the models, you know, the data go in and drive their models. Do >>You think any industry is more ripe for disruption? I mean, timeframe wise, you got healthcare, you know, like I always wonder, you know, how is AI gonna help doctors make better diagnoses already is yeah. Will, will AI make the diagnoses? Yeah. You know, retail, I mentioned before, you know, energy, you know, government is changing entertainment, media entertainment is, do you see any industry patterns where one is being disrupted more than the other? >>When we talk to customers, every industry thinks their industry is not going fast enough. And so it's like, you know, I think everybody is just so hyper focused on, you know, what they are involved in and then their domain that, uh, you, you, depending on who you talk to. Yeah. I, you don't, everybody needs to do it faster, you know, more economically, um, and more efficiently. Right. And so >>I think, and they're all being disrupted now, too. Absolutely. It's not only have to do faster, but they've got to, um, transform to keep up with the demands of their >>Customer. Nobody's safe. >>Yeah. And the technology's just gonna continue to accelerate that. And that's the thing. And, and, and the market's becoming, you know, less forgiving as, as we go. So people have to react really, really fast in these markets, you know, and especially with all the other changes going on around us, uh, to, to actually, you know, make that impact. >>Interesting. Because it brings, brings so many other challenges with how you deal with that. You have such breadth in so many different industries as Dave mentioned, but how are you that enabler, understand the technology with the cloud or, you know, edge or, you know, anything we're doing in with data. Yeah. Well, you know, what we also heard this morning is the different personas, right. Um, throughout that, I mean, tech, you know, the technology alone is not really what the, Mm-hmm, <affirmative> obviously is a challenging thing to do, but how were you seeing customer conversations, I may not know as a data, you know, as a, as an it professional. and, and I know a, of, a lot of failures to, to return, you know, the expectations and make decisions of, you know, medical decisions for their, you know, for their, you know, better patient outcomes. And it's evolved over time to be one of the, you know, And the insights is critical. a lot of those, you know, a lot of that data and, and provide, you know, even a broader data set to, I think the, when you think about the, the principles of this, this decentralized world, to, um, you know, where it comes from, who owns it. uh, to be able to do just, just that that's your swim lane, if you will. offering where we're, we now can, you know, have cloud-like services on prem. But I see that, that I, as in pass, as infrastructure, you're not getting into applications No other than letting, letting customers, you actually build on top of that. of, you know, pushing, you know, applications out. And they want to bring AI, they wanna bring data into their applications. Absolutely. elements you are forecasting if you have a crystal And we know that's, you know, those are the workloads that we gotta, you know, Both of those require the models, you know, you know, energy, you know, government is changing entertainment, And so it's like, you know, I think everybody is just so hyper focused on, It's not only have to do faster, but they've got to, and, and the market's becoming, you know, less forgiving as, as we go. Lisa Martin, here with Dave Velante of a couple of guests from red hat. You may have seen some news yesterday. We're gonna be talking about that. Please. Welcome Ryan King, the senior director of hardware partner ecosystem, and Lori Fontine joins us as well. The senior director of global commercial partner ecosystem. Welcome to the program guys. >>Thanks for having us. Yeah, >>Thank you so great to be back in person and nobody word has summit was just last month or so. That's right. Ryan. Talk about hybrid cloud. It's all the buzz. We've been talking a lot about it in the last hour and a half alone. What are some of the trends that, that red hat is seen with respect to hybrid cloud? >>Well, I, I mean, hybrid cloud of red hat has been a trend for quite some time. In fact, we were very early in setting our course towards hybrid cloud with our products and platforms. And that's been a key part of our strategy in terms of the number of transformations have been happening in the enterprise. And with HPE, we're super excited about, you know, we're hitting our stride with OpenShift. I've been working with OpenShift for the better part of my 10 years here at 12 years at red hat, 10 years with OpenShift. And we're very excited about seeing the pattern of going where customers want to build their cloud. It's very important that where, where the market is going. So we're seeing trends from the public cloud now go into edge and telco and 5g and really exceed, see them expanding their infrastructure footprint out to those use cases. And again, we see REL everywhere. So re has continued to expand as well. And then Ansible automation platform has also been a great means of kind of bringing together community for that last mile of automating your entire infrastructure. >>Well, the Lin, the functionality of Linux continues to improve OpenShift is everywhere. I mean, I remember at the red hat summit, I mean, well, we, we, we coined this term super cloud, which is this layer that floats, you know, on-prem took across clouds out to the edge we had Verizon on. They were talking about, you know, 5g developers and how they're developing using, you know, a combination of, of, of OpenShift. So guys have been really crushing it with, with OpenShift. I remember, gosh, I mean, we've been covering, you know, red hat summits for a long time now. And just to see that evolution is actually quite amazing. >>Yeah. It's actually really neat to see our CEOs align too. Right. So the messaging that we've had around hybrid cloud from red hat, like you said, we were kind of the pioneers, honestly, this we've been talking about hybrid cloud from the very beginning. We always knew that it wasn't gonna be public cloud or private cloud. We had to have, you know, hybrid. And, and it's interesting to see that Antonio, you know, took that on and wanted to say, we're gonna do everything as a service right. A few years ago. And, and the whole theme was around hybrid cloud and giving customers that choice. Right? So it's exciting for us to see all of that come together. And I actually worked for HP for like 17 and a half years. So it's really fun for me to be on this side now with red hat and see the messaging come together, the vision come together and just really being able to align and move forward on >>This tremendous amount of transformation in the last few years >>Alone. Oh my gosh, we >>Talk about, you know, customers need choice. They want choice, but you also talked about, we have to meet customers where they are. That seems the last few years to have accelerated, there is no more option for companies. You've gotta meet the customers where they are. >>Exactly. Yeah. And it's all about choice, like you said, and it, everybody's got, you know, their own way to do everything as far as consumption goes and we have to be available and spot on with it, you know, and be able to move quickly with these trends that we're seeing. And so it's great to be aligned. And >>From a partnership standpoint, I mean, you, you mentioned H HP 17 years. I mean, it was, it was a hard to follow company. You had, you had PCs over here, you had services, the kind of the old EDS business. Now there's such a focus absolutely. On this mission, absolutely. Of as a service. And, you know, obviously a key part of that is having optionality and bringing open source tooling into that. I mean, we heard about this in, in spades, at, at red hat summit, which is really interesting this year. It was a smaller VIP event in Boston. And I, and I loved it, you know, cuz it was really manageable. We had all the execs on and customers and partners. It was awesome. What's new since red hat summit. >>Well, I mean, I would say that obviously GreenLake and what we've announced this week is a big new thing for us, but really like we're just continuing on our pattern. We are. Now, if you look at the Q1 report from IBM, you'll see that the growth of the customer base for OpenShift that they reported just continues to go up into the right. You'll see that now, like AMIA is saying that we're like 47.8% of the containers market for the enterprise. You'll see that like we're now in 65% of the fortune 500 with OpenShift, 90% with red hat in general. So we've established our footprint. And when you establish your footprint and customers start taking you out to the edge, we're going into these 5g use cases, we're, we've got an incredible amount happening in the AI space, all these emerging areas of where people are building their cloud, like we're now going to that next level of saying, how do they want to consume it? >>So what's really important to me about that is, is so Omni data around 50% of the market is, is open shift. A people may not realize a lot of people use, you know, do Kubernetes for free, you know, Hey, we're doing Kubernetes, but they don't have that application development framework and all the recovery and all the, the tooling around it. And the reason why I think that's so important, Laurie is ecosystems wanna monetize. So people are paying for things that becomes more interesting and it actually starts to attract people just naturally. >>Yeah, absolutely. And speaking of ecosystem, I mean, that's the beauty of what we're doing with GreenLake too. We're taking on a building block approach. So we're really, it's kind of ISV as a service if you will. And you know, personally, I, this was my baby for the past couple years, trying to make sure that we took into consideration every partner use case, every customer use case. So we created an agreement that would make sense to be able to scale, but also to meet all the demands of our customers. And so the, the what's really exciting about this is now we have a chance to take this building block approach, scale it out to all types of partner types, right throughout the entire ecosystem and build offerings together. That is really exciting for us. And that's where we see the real potential here with GreenLake and with red hat, >>What's actually available inside a GreenLake. >>So we are starting with OpenShift. So OpenShift will be available in Q3 that will follow in Q4 with re and then after that Ansible. So we're, we're moving very quickly to bring our platforms into it and it's really our strategic platforms, but it's all based on customer demand. We know we're seeing amazing transformation of customers moving to Kubernetes. You said, you know, OpenShift is Kubernetes with useful additions to it and an ecosystem around it, right? So that transformation is also happening at the bare metal layer. So we're seeing people move into Kubernetes bare metal, which is an amazing growth market for us. >>Explain those useful additions if you would. So why shouldn't I just go out and, and get the free version of Kubernete? Why should I engage red hat and, and OpenShift? What do I get? >>So you get all the day, two management stuff, you get, we have a whole set of additional stuff you can purchase around it, OpenShift platform. Plus you can get our ACM, our advanced cluster management. So you wanna manage multiple clusters, right? You get the ACS, the security side of it. You can also get ODF. So you get storage built into it as well. And we've done all these integrations. You can manage the whole thing as a cluster or as multiple clusters with the whole enterprise support and the long term support that we provide for these things up to 10 years. So >>When you look at the early days lease of, of Kubernetes, it was really, the focus was on simplicity. You had other platforms that were actually doing more sophisticated cluster management. And the, the committers that in Kubernetes said, you know, we're not gonna do that. We're gonna keep it simple. And so that leave some holes and gaps and you know, they're starting to fill those, but what if, if correct me if I'm wrong, but what red hat has done is said, okay, we're gonna accelerate, you know, the, the, the closing of those gaps and stay ahead and actually offer incremental value. And that's why you're winning in the marketplace. >>Well, we're an open company, so we're still doing everything upstream and open source as we do, of course, sticking with, you know, the APIs and APIs to make this all work, both, you know, in terms of what the community's trying to drive, what we're trying to drive for our customers on their behalf. And then just where things are going from a technology basis, make it a lot of investment, >>But you have to, you have to make a red hat, has to make a choice as to where it puts its commitments. You can't spread yourself too thin, so you gotta pick your spots. And you've, you've proven that you're pretty adept at doing that. >>That just comes back to customer centricity, right. And just knowing where our customers need to take the platform. That's, >>That's easy to say, but it's, it's an art form. And a little bit of science. >>Remember these customers have experts that are deep in this space. So it's like, you know, those experts trust us with where they needed to go. And they trust us to help shepherd that and deliver that as a platform to them. So it's not like anybody tell us what you want, right? Like it's really about like, knowing what's the best way to do it. And working with the people that can help you understand how to apply that to their use case >>And within the customer environment, who are you working with? Who is that key constituent or constituents that are guiding red hat in this direction? >>Well, it's certainly infrastructure folks. So it's your, it's your standard folks that are looking at the, how do we lay down our infrastructure? How do we manage it? How do we grow it? It goes out to the application developers. They're trying to deliver this in a cloud native way. And we have new personas, you know, coming in with the AI practitioners, right? So we've announced at before summit at Invidia's event, their new offering called Invidia AI enterprise. And so that's them bringing in enterprise support for GPU, for Kuda and for a software stack above that to start offering some more support there. So they're certifying OpenShift, we're both certifying the servers that run underneath it, and then they're offering support for their stuff on top of it. And that's a whole new use case for us. >>And, you know, I should also mention that even though this paper use with the GreenLake is new for us, and we just had this big announcement, we have done GreenLake deals though. We've done numerous GreenLake deals with our annual subs, right? So I, so even though this is new to us, as far as, you know, monthly utilization and being able to do this cloud consumption this isn't new to us as two companies coming together, we've been doing GreenLake deals for the past couple years. It's just, now we have this cloud consumption availability, which is really gonna make this thing launch. So, >>So what have been some of the customer benefits so far, you've been doing it for a couple years. The announcement was yesterday, but there's obviously feed on the street going on. What are some of the, the big outcomes that you're seeing customers actually bring to reality? >>I think speed and agility, right? That's the biggest thing with, with our products, being able to have it everything predictable and being able to have it consumed one way, instead of having this fragmented customer experience, which is, you know, what we've seen in the past. So I think that's the biggest thing is speed agility and just, you know, a really good customer experience at this point. >>Go get it, please. >>I would say the customer experience is critical. Yes. That's one of the things that we know that in terms of, of patients wearing thin the last couple of years, people expect to have a really strong consumer experience regardless of what you're doing, regardless of what industry and so attention and mind on that is a differentiator in my opinion. >>Absolutely. Yeah. And we've gotta constantly keep our eye on that. I mean, that's, that's our north star, if you will. Right. So, and Lori, >>I know you've saying you're, you've done GreenLake deals in the past, but what feels different to me now in that it's actually coalescing some of the things that Alma Russo announced this morning, the platform on which, you know, ISV is a service. I think you, you called it. Yeah. You, it, it now seems like, you know, look a couple years ago, HP said, okay, this is the direction that we're going. Yeah. They weren't there at that time. And they're still not there. There's a lot of work to be, to be done. But now it's starting to form. You're seeing, you know, the pieces come together, the puzzle pieces that sort of substrate being laid out. And now you're hoping that we see the steep part of the S-curve and that's what customers I think are expecting. >>Right. And it's bringing that operating model to move to a monthly model so they can do pay as you go. Right. And that pairs up nicely with like the cloud native capabilities we're bringing to OpenShift and hybrid cloud in general. So it's, it just shows like we're already getting demand from customers. It's saying like, this is part of our model. Like we know a certain amount of infrastructure we wanna own, and we just wanna own it outright, but there's a lot that they want to have flexibility on. And so being able to add that portion to it is just, you know, gonna help us both. >>And you think about the critical aspects of, of the cloud operating model. It's obviously pay as you go it's, you know, massive scale it's ecosystem enablement, and also automation. I mean, that is, that is a key, what's your point of view on that? You guys with Ansible, you, you, you know, you go back to a couple years ago and it was, you know, there was this, there were a lot of other tooling, but now, I mean, Ansible is really taken off. Yeah. >>It's just, you know, Cinderella story, right? Like it really an amazing community driven thing where we just knew, we all know this, right. You have, when you get to the very last mile of doing infrastructure management, there's a variety of devices, there's variety, a variety of vendors. And then you have like the variety of skills of the people that have to figure out how to do automate all of this. And what Ansible did is it provided a common language across all of that. And so what we do with automation, our, an ible automation platform is we make it. So now teams can manage all of this together and they can share their playbooks and they can host that privately for all their enterprise stuff that they need to do. So it's just, you know, it fits our DNA so well to have something so community driven now with a really nice enterprise message wrapped around it. And it's playing out very well for where, you know, hybrid cloud. Right. Cause there's some more additional variety. You need to be able to manage, you know, across all of your different footprints, because really it's like, it's not just about flexibility and scale up scale down it's where do you need it to run at what time? Right. And that, that last leg Ansible plays a key role in that. >>And we actually, Ansible will be coming further down the, you know, the patch. I know we're gonna talk a little bit about what's available today versus what's available down the road, but yeah, we have that on the radar. So right outta the gate, we're working on OpenShift, obviously bare metal. And we see that happening in Q3 and then behind that as well in Q4 and then Ansible is gonna be right behind that. So that's kind of the order that, and there's other pieces, right? So our whole portfolio is basically available to HP right now. It's just making sure that we can operationalize everything and have the best experience >>All inside of GreenLake, >>All inside a GreenLake. Yeah. Pretty neat. Lori >>Question for you. You've been, you were with HP for a very long time. This is obviously the first discover in three years in person. Exactly. You know, three years ago, Antonio near stood on stage and said, we are going to buy 20, 22. And here we are deliver everything as a service, as a partner and as a former HP, what are you seeing at this discover 22? >>It's it's so interesting. I it's such a sea change if you will. Right. And having come from HPE, I actually led the software as a service organization for a while on the software side of things. And we thought that was like state of the art and cutting edge that was 10, 11, 12 years ago. Right. So to actually see this come to life, because we were all thinking really, everything is a service. How are you gonna do that? Like your entire portfolio is gonna be available. Like that is lofty. Right. And having worked at HP, I thought, wow, I don't, you know, I know things take time. And, but actually just even being around the showcase here and watching everything come to life is amazing. Cause I, I, you know, I, I was very positive about it, but at the same time, it's like that, that was a big goal three years. Right. And it's, I'm seeing it happen >>A big goal in two of those years during a pandemic. Right. So right. Talk about lofty. Oh my gosh. Quite a bit of accomplishments guys. It's the cube live on the show floor at HPE discover 2022, the first in person discover in three years, there are about 8,000 people here. The keynote was standing room only Lisa Martin here. I got a powerhouse group joining me for this keynote analysis. Dave ante joins us, Keith Townsend, John farrier, guys. Lot of news. It's all about HPE GreenLake. What were some of the things Dave, that stuck out to you? >>Well, I'll tell you right now, I gotta just quote, Antonio OIR said, Neri said four years ago, I declared that the enterprise of the future would be edge centric, cloud enabled and data driven. As a result, we launched HPE GreenLake. It kind of declared victory. Now I would say that what they're talking about and what they announced, I would consider table stakes. You know, I wish it started in 2014. I wish Antonio took over in 2015 instead of 2018, but I have to give credit, he's brought a focus and uh, and a, he think he's amped it up, John. I mean, if he's really prioritizing, uh, the, as a service they're going on in all in they're burning the boats, uh, and it's good. They got a lot of work to do. They >>Got a lot of work to do three years ago, John Antonio stood on this very stage saying we, and by 2022, we're gonna be delivering our entire portfolio as a service here we are with GreenLake. What I wanna get your thoughts on Keith's as well. >>Yeah. Well, first of all, I think that the crowded house was, uh, and a sign of people wanna come back together. So it's, to me, that was the first good news I saw, which was the HP community, their customer base. They're all here. They're glad to be back and forth. So it shows that they, their customer base it's resonating their value proposition of annual recurring revenue as a service plus the contract values with GreenLake are up. So this resonance with the customers, Dave, on the new operating model, that's a great check the box there. Um, I would say that I don't think HP's, as far along as Antonio had hopes, he'd be the pandemic was a setback. Um, but GreenLake is a real shining star. It's, uh, it's producing some green if you will money for them in terms of contracts, but they still got a lot more work to do because they're in a really interesting zone, Dave, because edge the cloud, although relevant and accurate where the, the shift is going, are they really there with, with the goods? And to me, I'm looking forward to seeing this discover if they have it or not. Certainly the messaging's good, but we're gonna UN UN unpeel that onion back and look at it. But >>Keith they're on the curve, right? At least they're on the cloud curve. >>They're absolutely on the curve. They have APIs, they have consistent developer experience. They announced the developer portal. They're developer centric. You can now consume your three par storage array services via a Terraform, uh, provider. They speak the language of cloud practitioners. You might struggle a little bit if I'm a small startup, you know, why would I look towards HPE? They kind of answered that a little bit. They had evil genius as a customer on stage, not a huge organization. A lot of the pushback they've been given is that if I may startup, I can simply go to a AWS portal, launch, a free trial service and run it. HPE kind of buried the lead. They now have, at least they announced preannounced the capability to, to trial GreenLake. So they're moving in the right direction. But you know, it's, it's it's table states. Well, >>Here's the thing. Here's the dynamic day that's going on. This is something that we've got got we're first of we've been covering HPE HP for now 11 years with the cube and look at Amazon's success and look at where Amazon's struggling. If you can say that they're having crossed overs to the enterprise, uh, cuz the enterprises are now just getting up to speed. You're seeing the rise of lack of talent. It certainly changing, uh, cyber security. You can't find talent. Kubernetes, good luck with that. Try to find someone. So you're seeing the enterprise aren't really geared up or staffed up for doing what I call, you know, high end cloud. So the rise of managed services is, is what we're seeing out there right now. You want Kubernetes clusters is a great set of managed services. You want other services? So that's the tell sign that the enterprises H HP's customers are now walking before they can run. They're crawling, they're now they're walking. So it's they have time to get in the Amazon lane in my opinion. Well, you >>Think about the hallmarks of cloud, obviously there's as a service, there's consumption based pricing. There's a developer, you know, friendliness, uh, there's ecosystem, which is really, really important. I think today, a lot of the ecosystem is partners, resellers and managed service providers. And to your point, Keith table stakes are things like single sign on being able to have, you know, a console being able to do it from a, from a URL to your point about startups is really interesting because that's one of the other hallmarks of cloud is you attract startups. And Lisa, we were at the snowflake summit and I asked the same question, can snowflake attract startups with their own super cloud. And what you saw was ecosystem partners developing in the snowflake cloud and monetizing. And that's something that we're waiting to see here. And I, I think they know >>You're suggesting way you suggesting that HP's gonna attract startups. >>Well, >>I, I think that's a sign if they can do that. That's a sign. And, and right now, I mean, you heard the example that Keith Keith gave. Uh, but, but not, not many. >>Yeah. I'm hoping that H I don't think HP is gonna ever attract startups, but I think the opportunity GreenLake affords the ecosystem is build clouds or purpose driven clouds around GreenLake. Mm-hmm <affirmative> whether it's the agreement with Equinix or all the cos and semi clouds, I think GreenLake gets most small CSPs, a leg up or 80% of the way there, where they can add that 20% of the IP and build services around GreenLake. And then that can attract the, the startup >>Or entrepreneurs. So the, the big question is, okay, where are these developers gonna come from? They could come from incumbents inside of companies. You know, the, the, the DevOps crowd from the enterprise, the really ops dev crowd. Right? I mean, yeah, don't you see that as a sort of a form of innovation startup, even though it's not a true startup. >>Yeah. Even though it's not, >>So Todd's making faces over there, we <laugh> >>Look, it, look it, they have >>Listen, if they don't, if they can't >>Do that, no, this is their focus is not startups. I agree with Keith on this one, they have to take care of business, home Depot. They have big customers and they have a lot of SMBs as well. They've got a great channel. H HP's got amazing infrastructure and, and client action going on. They gotta get the operating model, right job one as a service ARR, and then contract value and, and nail that with GreenLake. >>Who's their ideal customer profile. >>Their ideal is their install base. Look what Microsoft did with 365, they were going down. Their stock price was 26. At one point go to the, they went to the cloud 365, moved everything to the cloud and look at the success they're having. HP has the same kind of installed base. They gotta bring them along. They gotta get the operating model, right. And the developers that they're targeting are the ones inside the company and, or manage services that they're gonna go to the ecosystem for. That's where the cloud native comes in. That's where thing kind of comes together. So to me, I'm bullish on the operating model, but I'm skeptical that HP can get that cloud native developer. I haven't seen it yet. I'm looking for it. We're gonna look for it here. >>A key to that is going to be consistently. I, the, one of the things I'm looking for on the tech side, I, I hate to compare what HPE is doing to what VMware did with vCloud error years ago, but vCloud error on the outside looked >>Wonderful. Yes, >>It did. Once you tried to use it, it was just flaky underneath. And that's the part I'm looking to see customers pounding on it and saying, you know what API call after API I call, can I, uh, provision 10,000 pods a day? Does it scale down? Does it scale? And is it consistent? Is it >>Fragile Al roo she's co seasoned veteran? Uh, she was at V VMware cloud. She saw that movie. She gets a Mulligan, Dave. So I think her leadership is impressive. And I think she could bring a lot to the table to your point about don't make that same mistake and they gotta get this architecture, right. If they get the operating model right with GreenLake, they can double down on that and enable the developers that are driving the digital transformation. That to me is the, the key positions that they have to nail. And they do that. The rest is just fringe work. In my opinion, >>The reason why Alma was brought in, sorry, Lisa, it was, and then you gotta chime in here was to really build out that platform so that internal people at HPE can actually build value on top of it and the ecosystem that's her priority. >>We're gonna hear a lot from the ecosystem in the next couple of days, but I wanna get your perspective on, you've been following HPE a long time, all three of you. What are some of the things that you're hearing right now that are differentiators? We were just at Dell technologies. We talking about apex. We saw the big announcement they had with snowflake. We were at snowflake two weeks ago. I wanna get all three of your opinions on what are you seeing? Where is HP leading? >>I mean, HPE and Dell will, both with Dell, with apex are go, they're both gonna differentiate with their strengths. And, you know, for Dell, that's their breadth and their, their portfolio. And for, for HPE, that's their sort of open posture. I mean, John, you, you know this well, uh, that's their, their ecosystem, which I know has to evolve. And to me, their focus, you know, Antonio laid out some of the key differentiators. I, I, I think some of them were kind of, you know, pushing the envelope a little bit. Uh, but, but I think they're focus on as a service burning the, the, the boats telling wall street, this is our business. I think that's their differentiator. Is that they're, they're all in. >>Yeah. I, I think they, they try to highlight it by re announcing their private cloud service. I don't even know why they needed to announce that they have a private cloud. GreenLake is a cloud it's is a private cloud >>With block storage, hit disaster recovery. It's like good >>With like everything you get. But I think the, the key is, is that all of that is available today and you can get it in all kinds of frame of, of formats and, and frames specifically, if I'm a customer and I wanna get outta the data center and you, you know, Dave, we go back and forth about this all the time, and I wanna repatriate some workloads to Kubernetes on prem. I don't need to spend up another data center. I can go to Equinix, get GreenLake min IO, object storage on the back end, HPE lighthouse, all those services that I need for Kubernetes and repatriate my workloads without buying a new data center. And I get it as a service. I can get that Dave from HPE GreenLake, Dell apex is on the way. The >>Other thing they're differentiating with Aruba, that's something that Dell doesn't have. Yeah. And, and that is their edge play, I think is stronger than >>Of the others. Mean the, to me, the differentiator for HP is their, their history. Their channel's amazing. They got great Salesforce and they have serious customers and they have serious customers that have serious problems, uh, cyber security, uh, infrastructure, the security paradigm's changed. Uh, the deployment is changed how they deploy applications in their customer base. So they gotta step up to that challenge. And I think their differentiator is gonna be their size, their field and their ability to bring that operating model. And the hybrid model is a steady state. That's clear multi-cloud is just hybrids stitched together, but hybrid cloud, which is basically on premises and cloud to edge operating model is the number one thing that they need to nail. And if they nail that right, they will have a poll position that they could accelerate on. And again, I'm really gonna be watching how well they could enable cloud native developers, okay. To build modern agile applications while solving those serious problems with those serious customers. So again, I think hybrids spun in their direction. I'm not gonna say they got lucky, cuz they've always been on the hybrid bandwagon since we've been covering them. But I thought they'd be for a long day, but they're lucky to have hybrid. That's good for them. And I think do what Microsoft did convert their customers over and they do that, right? >>I think the key to that is gonna be ecosystem. Again, the developers need to see, especially the data piece, they talk about the cloud operating model. I think they're really moving that direction. The data piece to me is the weakest. Like they'll, they'll make claims that we can do anything that the cloud can do. You can't run snowflake, can't run data bricks, can't run Mongo Atlas. So they gotta figure out that data layer and that's optionality of, of data stores. And they don't have that today. >>Yeah. They, they, they have an announcement coming and I can't pre-announce it, but they're, they've, I've deemed them against it. They have the vision, Emeral data services, their data fabric multi-protocol access is a great start. They need the data network behind it. They need the ability to build a super cloud, a across multiple cloud providers, bringing some Google infos love inside of, uh, right next to your data. They have the hardware, they have the infrastructure, but they don't have the services. >>That's a key thing. I think one, you just brought up great point, Keith, and that is, is that at the end of the day, Dave, we're in a market now where agility and speed can be accomplished by startups or any company and HP's customers. Okay. Can move fast too. Okay. And so whoever can extend that value. If HPE can enable value creation for their customers, that's gonna be truly their, their task at hand, they got the channel, they got some leverage, but at the end of the day, the customers have alternatives now and they can move faster to get the value that they need to solve their serious problems. Uh, like cyber, like scalable infrastructure, like infrastructures code, like data ops, like AI ops, it's all here. And it's all coming really fast. Can GreenLake carry the day. And >>By the way, everything we just said about GreenLake in terms of table stakes and everything else, it applies for Dell. >>Yeah, absolutely. >>No question. It does guys.
