We are at Stanford University, as you know we are every year, having some wonderful conversations with some very inspiring women and men in data science and technical roles. I'm very pleased to introduce Tracy Zhang, my co-host, who is in the Data Journalism program at Stanford. And Tracy and I are pleased to welcome our next guest, Rhonda Crate, Principal Data Scientist at Boeing. Great to have you on the program, Rhonda. >> Tracy: Welcome. >> Hey, thanks for having me. >> Were you always interested in data science or STEM from the time you were young? >> No, actually. I was always interested in archeology and anthropology. >> That's right, we were talking about that, anthropology. Interesting. >> We saw the anthropology background, not even a bachelor's degree, but also a master's degree in anthropology. >> So you were committed for a while. >> I was, I was. I actually started college as a fine arts major, but I always wanted to be an archeologist. So at the last minute, 11 credits in, left to switch to anthropology. And then when I did my master's, I focused a little bit more on quantitative research methods and then I got my Stat Degree. >> Interesting. Talk about some of the data science projects that you're working on. When I think of Boeing, I always think of aircraft. But you are doing a lot of really cool things in IT, data analytics. Talk about some of those intriguing data science projects that you're working on. >> Yeah. So when I first started at Boeing, I worked in information technology and data analytics. And Boeing, at the time, had cored up data science in there. And so we worked as a function across the enterprise working on anything from shared services to user experience in IT products, to airplane programs. So, it has a wide range. I worked on environment health and safety projects for a long time as well. So looking at ergonomics and how people actually put parts onto airplanes, along with things like scheduling and production line, part failures, software testing. Yeah, there's a wide spectrum of things. >> But I think that's so fantastic. We've been talking, Tracy, today about just what we often see at WiDS, which is this breadth of diversity in people's background. You talked about anthropology, archeology, you're doing data science. But also all of the different opportunities that you've had at Boeing. To see so many facets of that organization. I always think that breadth of thought diversity can be hugely impactful. >> Yeah. So I will say my anthropology degree has actually worked to my benefit. I'm a huge proponent of integrating liberal arts and sciences together. And it actually helps me. I'm in the Technical Fellowship program at Boeing, so we have different career paths. So you can go into management, you can be a regular employee, or you can go into the Fellowship program. So right now I'm an Associate Technical Fellow. And part of how I got into the Fellowship program was that diversity in my background, what made me different, what made me stand out on projects. Even applying a human aspect to things like ergonomics, as silly as that sounds, but how does a person actually interact in the space along with, here are the actual measurements coming off of whatever system it is that you're working on. So, I think there's a lot of opportunities, especially in safety as well, which is a big initiative for Boeing right now, as you can imagine. >> Tracy: Yeah, definitely. >> I can't go into too specifics. >> No, 'cause we were like, I think a theme for today that kind of we brought up in in all of our talk is how data is about people, how data is about how people understand the world and how these data can make impact on people's lives. So yeah, I think it's great that you brought this up, and I'm very happy that your anthropology background can tap into that and help in your day-to-day data work too. >> Yeah. And currently, right now, I actually switched over to Strategic Workforce Planning. So it's more how we understand our workforce, how we work towards retaining the talent, how do we get the right talent in our space, and making sure overall that we offer a culture and work environment that is great for our employees to come to. >> That culture is so important. You know, I was looking at some anitab.org stats from 2022 and you know, we always talk about the number of women in technical roles. For a long time it's been hovering around that 25% range. The data from anitab.org showed from '22, it's now 27.6%. So, a little increase. But one of the biggest challenges still, and Tracy and I and our other co-host, Hannah, have been talking about this, is attrition. Attrition more than doubled last year. What are some of the things that Boeing is doing on the retention side, because that is so important especially as, you know, there's this pipeline leakage of women leaving technical roles. Tell us about what Boeing's, how they're invested. >> Yeah, sure. We actually have a publicly available Global Diversity Report that anybody can go and look at and see our statistics for our organization. Right now, off the top of my head, I think we're hovering at about 24% in the US for women in our company. It has been a male majority company for many years. We've invested heavily in increasing the number of women in roles. One interesting thing about this year that came out is that even though with the great resignation and those types of things, the attrition level between men and women were actually pretty close to being equal, which is like the first time in our history. Usually it tends on more women leaving. >> Lisa: That's a good sign. >> Right. >> Yes, that's a good sign. >> And we've actually focused on hiring and bringing in more women and diversity in our company. >> Yeah, some of the stats too from anitab.org talked about the increase, and I have to scroll back and find my notes, the increase in 51% more women being hired in 2022 than 2021 for technical roles. So the data, pun intended, is showing us. I mean, the data is there to show the impact that having females in executive leadership positions make from a revenue perspective. >> Tracy: Definitely. >> Companies are more profitable when there's women at the head, or at least in senior leadership roles. But we're seeing some positive trends, especially in terms of representation of women technologists. One of the things though that I found interesting, and I'm curious to get your thoughts on this, Rhonda, is that the representation of women technologists is growing in all areas, except interns. >> Rhonda: Hmm. >> So I think, we've got to go downstream. You teach, I have to go back to my notes on you, did my due diligence, R programming classes through Boeings Ed Wells program, this is for WSU College of Arts and Sciences, talk about what you teach and how do you think that intern kind of glut could be solved? >> Yeah. So, they're actually two separate programs. So I teach a data analytics course at Washington State University as an Adjunct Professor. And then the Ed Wells program is a SPEEA, which is an Aerospace Union, focused on bringing up more technology and skills to the actual workforce itself. So it's kind of a couple different audiences. One is more seasoned employees, right? The other one is our undergraduates. I teach a Capstone class, so it's a great way to introduce students to what it's actually like to work on an industry project. We partner with Google and Microsoft and Boeing on those. The idea is also that maybe those companies have openings for the students when they're done. Since it's Senior Capstone, there's not a lot of opportunities for internships. But the opportunities to actually get hired increase a little bit. In regards to Boeing, we've actually invested a lot in hiring more women interns. I think the number was 40%, but you'd have to double check. >> Lisa: That's great, that's fantastic. >> Tracy: That's way above average, I think. >> That's a good point. Yeah, it is above average. >> Double check on that. That's all from my memory. >> Is this your first WiDS, or have you been before? >> I did virtually last year. >> Okay. One of the things that I love, I love covering this event every year. theCUBE's been covering it since it's inception in 2015. But it's just the inspiration, the vibe here at Stanford is so positive. WiDS is a movement. It's not an initiative, an organization. There are going to be, I think annually this year, there will be 200 different events. Obviously today we're live on International Women's Day. 60 plus countries, 100,000 plus people involved. So, this is such a positive environment for women and men, because we need everybody, underrepresented minorities, to be able to understand the implication that data has across our lives. If we think about stripping away titles in industries, everybody is a consumer, not everybody, most of mobile devices. And we have this expectation, I was in Barcelona last week at a Mobile World Congress, we have this expectation that we're going to be connected 24/7. I can get whatever I want wherever I am in the world, and that's all data driven. And the average person that isn't involved in data science wouldn't understand that. At the same time, they have expectations that depend on organizations like Boeing being data driven so that they can get that experience that they expect in their consumer lives in any aspect of their lives. And that's one of the things I find so interesting and inspiring about data science. What are some of the things that keep you motivated to continue pursuing this? >> Yeah I will say along those lines, I think it's great to invest in K-12 programs for Data Literacy. I know one of my mentors and directors of the Data Analytics program, Dr. Nairanjana Dasgupta, we're really familiar with each other. So, she runs a WSU program for K-12 Data Literacy. It's also something that we strive for at Boeing, and we have an internal Data Literacy program because, believe it or not, most people are in business. And there's a lot of disconnect between interpreting and understanding data. For me, what kind of drives me to continue data science is that connection between people and data and how we use it to improve our world, which is partly why I work at Boeing too 'cause I feel that they produce products that people need like satellites and airplanes, >> Absolutely. >> and everything. >> Well, it's tangible, it's relatable. We can understand it. Can you do me a quick favor and define data literacy for anyone that might not understand what that means? >> Yeah, so it's just being able to understand elements of data, whether that's a bar chart or even in a sentence, like how to read a statistic and interpret a statistic in a sentence, for example. >> Very cool. >> Yeah. And sounds like Boeing's doing a great job in these programs, and also trying to hire more women. So yeah, I wanted to ask, do you think there's something that Boeing needs to work on? Or where do you see yourself working on say the next five years? >> Yeah, I think as a company, we always think that there's always room for improvement. >> It never, never stops. >> Tracy: Definitely. (laughs) >> I know workforce strategy is an area that they're currently really heavily investing in, along with safety. How do we build safer products for people? How do we help inform the public about things like Covid transmission in airports? For example, we had the Confident Traveler Initiative which was a big push that we had, and we had to be able to inform people about data models around Covid, right? So yeah, I would say our future is more about an investment in our people and in our culture from my perspective >> That's so important. One of the hardest things to change especially for a legacy organization like Boeing, is culture. You know, when I talk with CEO's or CIO's or COO's about what's your company's vision, what's your strategy? Especially those companies that are on that digital journey that have no choice these days. Everybody expects to have a digital experience, whether you're transacting an an Uber ride, you're buying groceries, or you're traveling by air. That culture sounds like Boeing is really focused on that. And that's impressive because that's one of the hardest things to morph and mold, but it's so essential. You know, as we look around the room here at WiDS it's obviously mostly females, but we're talking about women, underrepresented minorities. We're talking about men as well who are mentors and sponsors to us. I'd love to get your advice to your younger self. What would you tell yourself in terms of where you are now to become a leader in the technology field? >> Yeah, I mean, it's kind of an interesting question because I always try to think, live with no regrets to an extent. >> Lisa: I like that. >> But, there's lots of failures along the way. (Tracy laughing) I don't know if I would tell myself anything different because honestly, if I did, I wouldn't be where I am. >> Lisa: Good for you. >> I started out in fine arts, and I didn't end up there. >> That's good. >> Such a good point, yeah. >> We've been talking about that and I find that a lot at events like WiDS, is women have these zigzaggy patterns. I studied biology, I have a master's in molecular biology, I'm in media and marketing. We talked about transportable skills. There's a case I made many years ago when I got into tech about, well in science you learn the art of interpreting esoteric data and creating a story from it. And that's a transportable skill. But I always say, you mentioned failure, I always say failure is not a bad F word. It allows us to kind of zig and zag and learn along the way. And I think that really fosters thought diversity. And in data science, that is one of the things we absolutely need to have is that diversity and thought. You know, we talk about AI models being biased, we need the data and we need the diverse brains to help ensure that the biases are identified, extracted, and removed. Speaking of AI, I've been geeking out with ChatGPT. So, I'm on it yesterday and I ask it, "What's hot in data science?" And I was like, is it going to get that? What's hot? And it did it, it came back with trends. I think if I ask anything, "What's hot?", I should be to Paris Hilton, but I didn't. And so I was geeking out. One of the things I learned recently that I thought was so super cool is the CTO of OpenAI is a woman, Mira Murati, which I didn't know until over the weekend. Because I always think if I had to name top females in tech, who would they be? And I always default to Sheryl Sandberg, Carly Fiorina, Susan Wojcicki running YouTube. Who are some of the people in your history, in your current, that are really inspiring to you? Men, women, indifferent. >> Sure. I think Boeing is one of the companies where you actually do see a lot of women in leadership roles. I think we're one of the top companies with a number of women executives, actually. Susan Doniz, who's our Chief Information Officer, I believe she's actually slotted to speak at a WiDS event come fall. >> Lisa: Cool. >> So that will be exciting. Susan's actually relatively newer to Boeing in some ways. A Boeing time skill is like three years is still kind of new. (laughs) But she's been around for a while and she's done a lot of inspiring things, I think, for women in the organization. She does a lot with Latino communities and things like that as well. For me personally, you know, when I started at Boeing Ahmad Yaghoobi was one of my mentors and my Technical Lead. He came from Iran during a lot of hard times in the 1980s. His brother actually wrote a memoir, (laughs) which is just a fun, interesting fact. >> Tracy: Oh my God! >> Lisa: Wow! >> And so, I kind of gravitate to people that I can learn from that's not in my sphere, that might make me uncomfortable. >> And you probably don't even think about how many people you're influencing along the way. >> No. >> We just keep going and learning from our mentors and probably lose sight of, "I wonder how many people actually admire me?" And I'm sure there are many that admire you, Rhonda, for what you've done, going from anthropology to archeology. You mentioned before we went live you were really interested in photography. Keep going and really gathering all that breadth 'cause it's only making you more inspiring to people like us. >> Exactly. >> We thank you so much for joining us on the program and sharing a little bit about you and what brought you to WiDS. (upbeat music) >> Hi, everyone, welcome to this program sponsored by HPE. I'm your host, Lisa Martin. We're here talking about being confident and trusting your server security with HPE. I have two guests here with me to talk about this important topic. Cole Humphreys joins us, global server security product manager at HPE, and Ann Potten, trusted supply chain program lead at HPE. Guys, it's great to have you on the program, welcome. >> Hi, thanks. >> Thank you. It's nice to be here. >> Ann let's talk about really what's going on there. Some of the trends, some of the threats, there's so much change going on. What is HPE seeing? >> Yes, good question, thank you. Yeah, you know, cybersecurity threats are increasing everywhere and it's causing disruption to businesses and governments alike worldwide. You know, the global pandemic has caused limited employee availability originally, this has led to material shortages, and these things opens the door perhaps even wider for more counterfeit parts and products to enter the market, and these are challenges for consumers everywhere. In addition to this, we're seeing the geopolitical environment has changed. We're seeing rogue nation states using cybersecurity warfare tactics to immobilize an entity's ability to operate, and perhaps even use their tactics for revenue generation. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is one example. But businesses are also under attack, you know, for example, we saw SolarWinds' software supply chain was attacked two years ago, which unfortunately went unnoticed for several months. And then, this was followed by the Colonial Pipeline attack and numerous others. You know, it just seems like it's almost a daily occurrence that we hear of a cyberattack on the evening news. And, in fact, it's estimated that the cyber crime cost will reach over $10.5 trillion by 2025, and will be even more profitable than the global transfer of all major illegal drugs combined. This is crazy. You know, the macro environment in which companies operate in has changed over the years. And, you know, all of these things together and coming from multiple directions presents a cybersecurity challenge for an organization and, in particular, its supply chain. And this is why HPE is taking proactive steps to mitigate supply chain risk, so that we can provide our customers with the most secure products and services. >> So, Cole, let's bring you into the conversation. Ann did a great job of summarizing the major threats that are going on, the tumultuous landscape. Talk to us, Cole, about the security gap. What is it, what is HPE seeing, and why are organizations in this situation? >> Hi, thanks, Lisa. You know, what we're seeing is as this threat landscape increases to, you know, disrupt or attempt to disrupt our customers, and our partners, and ourselves, it's a kind of a double edge, if you will, because you're seeing the increase in attacks, but what you're not seeing is an equal to growth of the skills and the experiences required to address the scale. So it really puts the pressure on companies, because you have a skill gap, a talent gap, if you will, you know, for example, there are projected to be 3 1/2 million cyber roles open in the next few years, right? So all this scale is growing, and people are just trying to keep up, but the gap is growing, just literally the people to stop the bad actors from attacking the data. And to complicate matters, you're also seeing a dynamic change of the who and the how the attacks are happening, right? The classic attacks that you've seen, you know, in the espionage in all the, you know, the history books, those are not the standard plays anymore. You'll have, you know, nation states going after commercial entities and, you know, criminal syndicates, as Ann alluded to, that there's more money in it than the international drug trade, so you can imagine the amount of criminal interest in getting this money. So you put all that together and the increasing of attacks it just is really pressing down as literally, I mean, the reports we're reading over half of everyone. Obviously, the most critical infrastructure cares, but even just mainstream computing requirements need to have their data protected, "Help me protect my workloads," and they don't have the people in-house, right? So that's where partnership is needed, right? And that's where we believe, you know, our approach with our partner ecosystem this is not HPE delivering everything ourself, but all of us in this together is really what we believe the only way we're going to be able to get this done. >> So, Cole, let's double-click on that, HPE and its partner ecosystem can provide expertise that companies in every industry are lacking. You're delivering HPE as a 360-degree approach to security. Talk about what that 360-degree approach encompasses. >> Thank you, it is an approach, right? Because I feel that security it is a thread that will go through the entire construct of a technical solution, right? There isn't a, "Oh, if you just buy this one server with this one feature, you don't have to worry about anything else." It's really it's everywhere, at least the way we believe it, it's everywhere. And in a 360-degree approach, the way we like to frame it, is it's this beginning with our supply chain, right? We take a lot of pride in the designs, you know, the really smart engineering teams, the designer, technology, our awesome, world-class global operations team working in concert to deliver some of these technologies into the market, that is, you know, a great capability, but also a huge risk to customers. 'Cause that is the most vulnerable place that if you inject some sort of malware or tampering at that point, you know, the rest of the story really becomes mute, because you've already defeated, right? And then, you move in to you physically deployed that through our global operations, now you're in an operating environment. That's where automation becomes key, right? We have software innovations in, you know, our iLO product of management inside those single servers, and we have really cool new GreenLake for compute operations management services out there that give customers more control back and more information to deal with this scaling problem. And then, lastly, as you begin to wrap up, you know, the natural life cycle, and you need to move to new platforms and new technologies, we think about the exit of that life cycle, and how do we make sure we dispose of the data and move those products into a secondary life cycle, so that we can move back into this kind of circular 360-degree approach. We don't want to leave our customers hanging anywhere in this entire journey. >> That 360-degree approach is so critical, especially given, as we've talked about already in this segment, the changes, the dynamics in the environment. Ann, as Cole said, this 360-degree approach that HPE is delivering is beginning in the manufacturing supply chain, seems like the first line of defense against cyberattackers. Talk to us about why that's important and where did the impetus come from? Was that COVID, was that customer demand? >> Yep, yep. Yeah, the supply chain is critical, thank you. So in 2018, we could see all of these cybersecurity issues starting to emerge and predicted that this would be a significant challenge for our industry. So we formed a strategic initiative called the Trusted Supply Chain Program designed to mitigate cybersecurity risk in the supply chain, and really starting with the product life cycle, starting at the product design phase and moving through sourcing and manufacturing, how we deliver products to our customers and, ultimately, a product's end of life that Cole mentioned. So in doing this, we're able to provide our customers with the most secure products and services, whether they're buying their servers for their data center or using our own GreenLake services. So just to give you some examples, something that is foundational to our Trusted Supply Chain Program we've built a very robust cybersecurity supply chain risk management program that includes assessing our risk at all factories and our suppliers, okay? We're also looking at strengthening our software supply chain by developing mechanisms to identify software vulnerabilities and hardening our own software build environments. To protect against counterfeit parts, that I mentioned in the beginning, from entering our supply chain, we've recently started a blockchain program so that we can identify component provenance and trace parts back to their original manufacturers. So our security efforts, you know, continue even after product manufacturing. We offer three different levels of secured delivery services for our customers, including, you know, a dedicated truck and driver, or perhaps even an exclusive use vehicle. We can tailor our delivery services to whatever the customer needs. And then, when a product is at its end of life, products are either recycled or disposed using our approved vendors. So our servers are also equipped with the One-Button Secure Erase that erases every byte of data, including firmware data. And talking about products, we've taken additional steps to provide additional security features for our products. Number one, we can provide platform certificates that allow the user to cryptographically verify that their server hasn't been tampered with from the time it left the manufacturing facility to the time that it arrives at the customer's facility. In addition to that, we've launched a dedicated line of trusted supply chain servers with additional security features, including Secure Configuration Lock, Chassis Intrusion Detection, and these are assembled at our U.S. factory by U.S. vetted employees. So lots of exciting things happening within the supply chain not just to shore up our own supply chain risk, but also to provide our customers with the most secure product. And so with that, Cole, do you want to make our big announcement? >> All right, thank you. You know, what a great setup though, because I think you got to really appreciate the whole effort that we're putting into, you know, bringing these online. But one of the, just transparently, the gaps we had as we proved this out was, as you heard, this initial proof was delivered with assembly in the U.S. factory employees. You know, fantastic program, really successful in all our target industries and even expanding to places we didn't really expect it to. But it's kind of going to the point of security isn't just for one industry or one set of customers, right? We're seeing it in our partners, we're seeing it in different industries than we have in the past. But the challenge was we couldn't get this global right out the gate, right? This has been a really heavy, transparently, a U.S. federal activated focus, right? If you've been tracking what's going on since May of last year, there's been a call to action to improve the nation's cybersecurity. So we've been all in on that, and we have an opinion and we're working hard on that, but we're a global company, right? How can we get this out to the rest of the world? Well, guess what? This month we figured it out and, well, it's take a lot more than this month, we did a lot of work, but we figured it out. And we have launched a comparable service globally called Server Security Optimization Service, right? HPE Server Security Optimization Service for ProLiant. I like to call it, you know, SSOS Sauce, right? Do you want to be clever? HPE Sauce that we can now deploy globally. We get that product hardened in the supply chain, right? Because if you take the best of your supply chain and you take your technical innovations that you've innovated into the server, you can deliver a better experience for your customers, right? So the supply chain equals server technology and our awesome, you know, services teams deliver supply chain security at that last mile, and we can deliver it in the European markets and now in the Asia Pacific markets, right? We could ship it from the U.S. to other markets, so we could always fulfill this promise, but I think it's just having that local access into your partner ecosystem and stuff just makes more sense. But it is a big deal for us because now we have activated a meaningful supply chain security benefit for our entire global network of partners and customers and we're excited about it, and we hope our customers are too. >> That's huge, Cole and Ann, in terms of the significance of the impact that HPE is delivering through its partner ecosystem globally as the supply chain continues to be one of the terms on everyone's lips here. I'm curious, Cole, we just couple months ago, we're at Discover, can you talk about what HPE is doing here from a security perspective, this global approach that it's taking as it relates to what HPE was talking about at Discover in terms of we want to secure the enterprise to deliver these experiences from edge to cloud. >> You know, I feel like for me, and I think you look at the shared-responsibility models and, you know, other frameworks out there, the way I believe it to be is it's a solution, right? There's not one thing, you know, if you use HPE supply chain, the end, or if you buy an HPE ProLiant, the end, right? It is an integrated connectedness with our as-a-service platform, our service and support commitments, you know, our extensive partner ecosystem, our alliances, all of that comes together to ultimately offer that assurance to a customer, and I think these are specific meaningful proof points in that chain of custody, right? That chain of trust, if you will. Because as the world becomes more zero trust, we are going to have to prove ourselves more, right? And these are those kind of technical credentials, and identities and, you know, capabilities that a modern approach to security need. >> Excellent, great work there. Ann, let's go ahead and take us home. Take the audience through what you think, ultimately, what HPE is doing really infusing security at that 360-degree approach level that we talked about. What are some of the key takeaways that you want the audience that's watching here today to walk away with? >> Right, right, thank you. Yeah, you know, with the increase in cybersecurity threats everywhere affecting all businesses globally, it's going to require everyone in our industry to continue to evolve in our supply chain security and our product security in order to protect our customers and our business continuity. Protecting our supply chain is something that HPE is very committed to and takes very seriously. John for a maiko stupid demon devil on things out around the floor. Getting stories, getting scoops. Of course, we're here with Sadeer has Bay. Who's the director of product management? Google Cloud. So great to see you again. Go on Back on last year, I'LL see Big Query was a big product that we love. We thought the fifty many times about database with geek out on the databases. But it's not just about the databases. We talked about this yesterday, all morning on our kickoff. There is going to be database explosion everywhere. Okay, it's not. There's no one database anymore. It's a lot of databases, so that means data in whatever database format document relational, Unstructured. What you want to call it is gonna be coming into analytical tools. Yes, this's really important. It's also complex. Yeah, these be made easier. You guys have made their seers announcements Let's get to the hard news. What's the big news from your group around Big Queria Mail Auto ml Some of the news share >> the news. Perfect, I think not. Just databases are growing, but also applications. There's an explosion off different applications. Every organization is using hundreds of them, right from sales force to work today. So many of them, and so having a centralized place where you can bring all the data together, analyze it and make decisions. It's critical. So in that realm to break the data silos, we have announced a few important things that they went. One is clouded effusion, making it easy for customers to bring in data from different sources on Prum Ices in Cloud so that you can go out and as you bring the data and transform and visually just go out and move the data into Big query for for analysis, the whole idea is the board and have Dragon drop called free environment for customers to easily bring daytime. So we have, like, you know, a lot of customers, just bringing in all the data from their compromise. The system's oracle, my sequel whatever and then moving that into into big Query as they analyze. So that's one big thing. Super excited about it. A lot of attraction, lot of good feedback from our customers that they went. The second thing is Big Query, which is our Cloud Skill Data warehouse. We have customers from few terabytes to hundreds of terabytes with it. Way also have an inline experience for customers, like a data analyst who want to analyze data, Let's say from sales force work, they are from some other tools like that if you want to do that. Three. I have made hundred less connectors to all these different sense applications available to our partners. Like five Grand Super Metrics in Macquarie five four Barrel Box out of the box for two five clicks, >> you'LL be able to cloud but not above, but I guess that's afraid. But it's important. Connectors. Integration points are critical table stakes. Now you guys are making that a table stakes, not an ad on service the paid. You >> just basically go in and do five clicks. You can get the data, and you can use one of the partners connectors for making all the decisions. And also that's there. and we also announced Migration Service to migrate from candidate that shift those things. So just making it easy to get data into recipe so that you can unlock the value of the data is the first thing >> this has become the big story here. From the Cube standpoint on DH student, I've been talking about day all week. Data migration has been a pain in the butt, and it's critical linchpin that some say it could be the tell sign of how well Google Cloud will do in the Enterprise because it's not an easy solution. It's not just, oh, just move stuff over And the prizes have unique requirements. There's all kinds of governance, all kinds of weird deal things going on. So how are you guys making it easy? I guess that's the question. How you gonna make migrating in good for the enterprise? >> I think the one thing I'll tell you just before I had a customer tell me one pain. You have the best highways, but you're on grams to the highway. Is that a challenge? Can you pick that on? I'm like here are afraid. Analogy. Yeah, it's great. And so last year or so we have been focused on making the migration really easy for customers. We know a lot of customers want to move to cloud. And as they moved to cloud, we want to make sure that it's easy drag, drop, click and go for migration. So we're making that >> holding the on ramps basically get to get the data in the big challenge. What's the big learnings? What's the big accomplishment? >> I think the biggest thing has Bean in past. People have to write a lot ofthe court to go ahead and do these kind of activities. Now it is becoming Click and go, make it really cold free environment for customers. Make it highly reliable. And so that's one area. But that's just the first part of the process, right? What customers want is not just to get data into cloud into the query. They want to go out and get a lot of value out off it. And within that context, what we have done is way made some announcements and, uh, in the in that area. One big thing is the B I engine, because he'd be a engine. It's basically an acceleration on top of the query you get, like subsequently, agency response times for interactive dash boarding, interactive now reporting. So that's their butt in with that. What we're also announced is connected sheets, so connected sheets is basically going to give you spreadsheet experience on top ofthe big credit data sets. You can analyze two hundred ten billion rose off data and macquarie directly with drag drop weakened upriver tables again. Do visualizations customers love spreadsheets in general? >> Yeah, City area. I'm glad you brought it out. We run a lot of our business on sheep's way of so many of the pieces there and write if those the highways, we're using our data. You know what's the first step out of the starts? What are some of the big use cases that you see with that? >> So I think Andy, she is a good example of so air. Isha has a lot of their users operational users. You needed to have access to data on DH, so they basically first challenge was they really have ah subsequently agency so that they can actually do interact with access to the data and also be an engine is helping with that. They used their story on top. Off half now Big Quit it, Gordon. Make it accessible. Be engine will vote with all the other partner tooling too. But on the other side, they also needed to have spread sheet like really complex analysis of the business that they can improve operation. Last year we announced they have saved almost five to ten percent on operational costs, and in the airline, that's pretty massive. So basically they were able to go out and use our connective sheets experience. They have bean early Alfa customer to go out and use it to go in and analyse the business, optimize it and also so that's what customers are able to do with connected sheets. Take massive amounts of data off the business and analyze it and make better. How >> do we use that? So, for a cost, pretend way want to be a customer? We have so many tweets and data points from our media. I think fifty million people are in our kind of Twitter network that we've thought indexed over the years I tried to download on the C S V. It's horrible. So we use sheets, but also this They've had limitations on the han that client. So do we just go to Big Query? How would we work >> that you can use data fusion with you? Clicks move later into Big Query wants you now have it in big query in sheets. You will have an option from data connectors Macquarie. And once you go there, if you're in extended al far, you should get infection. Alfa. And then when you click on that, it will allow you to pick any table in bickering. And once you link the sheets to be query table, it's literally the spreadsheet is a >> run in >> front and got through the whole big query. So when you're doing a favour tables when you're saying Hey, aggregate, by this and all, it actually is internally calling big credit to do those activities. So you remove the barrier off doing something in the in the presentation layer and move that to the engine that actually can do the lot skill. >> Is this shipping? Now you mention it. Extended beta. What's the product? >> It's an extended out far for connected sheets. Okay, so it's like we're working with few customers early on board and >> make sure guys doing lighthouse accounts classic classic Early. >> If customers are already G sweet customer, we would love to get get >> more criteria on the connected sheets of Alfa sending bait after Now What's what's the criteria? >> I think nothing. If customers are ready to go ahead and give us feedback, that's what we care of. Okay, so you want to start with, like, twenty twenty five customers and then expanded over this year and expand it, >> maybe making available to people watching. Let us let us know what the hell what do they go? >> Throw it to me and then I can go with that. Folks, >> sit here. One of the other announcements saw this week I'm curious. How it connects into your pieces is a lot of the open source databases and Google offering those service maybe even expand as because we know, as John said in the open there, the proliferation of databases is only gonna increase. >> I think open source way announced lot of partnerships on the databases. Customers need different types of operational databases on. This is a great, great opportunity for us to partner with some of our partners and providing that, and it's not just data basis. We also announced announced Partnership with Confident. I've been working with the confident team for last one place here, working on the relationship, making sure our customers haven't. I believe customers should always have choice. And we have our native service with Cloud pops up. A lot of customers liked after they're familiar with CAFTA. So with our relationship with Khan fluent and what we announced now, customers will get native experience with CAFTA on Jessie P. I'm looking forward to that, making sure our customers are happy and especially in the streaming analytic space where you can get real time streams of data you want to be, Oh, directly analytics on top of it. That is a really high value add for us, So that's great. And so so that's the That's what I'm looking forward to his customers being able to go out and use all of these open source databases as well as messaging systems to go ahead and and do newer scenarios for with us. >> Okay, so you got big Big query. ML was announced in G. A big query also has auto support Auto ml tables. What does that mean? What's going what's going on today? >> So we announced aquarium L at Kew Blast next invader. So we're going Ta be that because PML is basically a sequel interface to creating machine learning models at scale. So if you have all your data and query, you can write two lines ofthe sequel and go ahead and create a model tow with, Let's say, clustering. We announced plastering. Now we announced Matrix factory ization. One great example I will give you is booking dot com booking dot com, one of the largest travel portals in the in the world. They have a challenge where all the hotel rooms have different kinds off criteria which says they have a TV. I have a ll the different things available and their problem was data quality. There was a lot of challenges with the quality of data they were getting. They were able to use clustering algorithm in sequel in Macquarie so that they could say, Hey, what are the anomalies in this data? Sets and identify their hotel rooms. That would say I'm a satellite TV, but no TV available. So those claims direct Lansing stuff. They were easily able to do with a data analyst sequel experience so that's that. >> That's a great example of automation. Yeah, humans would have to come in, clean the data that manually and or write scripts, >> so that's there. But on the other side, we also have, Ah, amazing technology in Auto Emma. So we had our primal table are normal vision off thermal available for customers to use on different technologies. But we realized a lot of problems in enterprise. Customers are structured data problems, So I have attained equerry. I want to be able to go in and use the same technology like neural networks. It will create models on top of that data. So with auto Emel tables, what we're enabling is customers can literally go in auto Emel Table Portal say, Here is a big query table. I want to be able to go out and create a model on. Here is the column that I want to predict from. Based on that data, and just three click a button will create an automated the best model possible. You'LL get really high accuracy with it, and then you will be able to go out and do predictions through an FBI or U can do bulk predictions out and started back into Aquarian also. So that's the whole thing when making machine learning accessible to everyone in the organization. That's our goal on with that, with a better product to exactly it should be in built into the product. >> So we know you've got a lot of great tech. But you also talk to a lot of customers. Wonder if you might have any good, you know, one example toe to really highlight. Thie updates that you >> think booking dot com is a good example. Our scent. Twentieth Century Fox last year shared their experience off how they could do segmentation of customers and target customers based on their past movies, that they're watched and now they could go out and protect. We have customers like News UK. They're doing subscription prediction like which customers are more likely to subscribe to their newspapers. Which ones are trying may turn out s o those He examples off how machine learning is helping customers like basically to go out and target better customers and make better decisions. >> So, do you talk about the ecosystem? Because one of things we were riffing on yesterday and I was giving a monologue, Dave, about we had a little argument, but I was saying that the old way was a lot of people are seeing an opportunity to make more margin as a system integrated or global less I, for instance. So if you're in the ecosystem dealing with Google, there's a margin opportunity because you guys lower the cost and increase the capability on the analytic side. Mention streaming analytics. So there's a business model moneymaking opportunity for partners that have to be kind of figured out. >> I was the >> equation there. Can you share that? Because there's actually an opportunity, because if you don't spend a lot of time analyzing the content from the data, talk aboutthe >> money means that there's a huge opportunity that, like global system integrators, to come in and help our customers. I think the big challenges more than the margin, there is lot of value in data that customers can get out off. There's a lot of interesting insights, not a good decision making they can do, and a lot of customers do need help in ramping up and making sure they can get value out of that. And it's a great opportunity for our global Asai partners and I've been meeting a lot of them at the show to come in and help organizations accelerate the whole process off, getting insights from from their data, making better decisions, do no more machine learning, leverage all of that. And I think there is a huge opportunity for them to come in. Help accelerate. What's the >> play about what some other low hanging fruit opportunities I'LL see that on ramping or the data ingestion is one >> one loving fruit? Yes, I think no hanging is just moving migration. Earlier, he said. Break the data silos. Get the data into DCP. There's a huge opportunity for customers to be like, you know, get a lot of value. By that migration is a huge opportunity. A lot of customers want to move to cloud, then they don't want to invest more and more and infrastructure on them so that they can begin level Is the benefits off loud? And I think helping customers my great migrations is going to be a huge Obviously, we actually announced the migration program also like a weak back also way. We will give training credits to our customers. We will fund some of the initial input, initial investment and migration activities without a side partners and all, so that that should help there. So I think that's one area. And the second area, I would say, is once the data is in the platform getting value out ofit with aquarium in auto ml, how do you help us? It must be done. I think that would be a huge opportunity. >> So you feel good too, dear. But, you know, build an ecosystem. Yeah. You feel good about that? >> Yeah, way feel very strongly about our technology partners, which are like folks like looker like tableau like, uh, talent confluence, tri factor for data prep All of those that partner ecosystem is there great and also the side partner ecosystem but for delivery so that we can provide great service to our customers >> will be given good logos on that slide. I got to say, Try facts and all the other ones were pretty good etcetera. Okay, so what's the top story for you in the show here, besides your crew out on the date aside for your area was a top story. And then generally, in your opinion, what's the most important story here in Google Cloud next. >> I think two things in general. The biggest news, I think, is open source partnership that we have announced. I'm looking forward to that. It's a great thing. It's a good thing both for the organizations as well as us on DH. Then generally, you'LL see lot off examples of enterprise customers betting on us from HSBC ends at bank that was there with mean in the session. They talked about how they're getting value out ofthe outof our data platform in general, it's amazing to see a lot more enterprises adopting and coming here telling their stories, sharing it with force. >> Okay, thanks so much for joining us.
