Along with Justin Warren, I'm John Walls, and we're now joined by Phil Tee, who is the CEO and co-founder of Moodsoft. Phil, good to see you this afternoon. >> Great to be with you, thank you for inviting me along. >> You bet, nice to have you. In fact, I'm going to be the only guy without a charming accent on this set as a matter of fact. A UK and an Aussie here. Your world's data, right? And it kind of reminds me of the old movie Jaws when Robert says we're going to need a bigger boat, right? AI ops, is that your bigger boat? Is that how you're handling this world of data? >> I think that's exactly spot on and one of the things we observe at Moodsoft with our customers is just this crazy complexity that they have to deal with. I mean, we cover everything from large financials, telephone companies, e-commerce businesses, and the drive to adopt agile and cloud and software defined in the the enterprise has driven complexity to the point where the poor old human brain is just out of luck, right? The unaided "I'll figure it out by myself" approach, dead in the water, and you've got to use this artificial intelligence approach precisely as your "bigger boat" to go catch that shark. >> Right. So tell us, there's a lot of hype around AI, and machine learning, and all of these different buzzwords are getting thrown around. Dial us in a little bit. Explain what you mean by AI in the context you're talking about things with Moodsoft. >> So, I think that's very perceptive. There's a tweet going around at the moment which describes the difference between machine learning and AI as, if it's written in Python it's probably machine learning, if it's on a Powerpoint deck it's probably AI. Which is kind of funny, but to the point. And there is a ton of hype going around artificial intelligence. There are some purists who claim there is no such thing as AI and everything we talk about today is really machine learning or data driven algorithms. And there's some truth in that. Really, what we mean by AI is the full panoply of both feature detection, you know, looking for patterns that are not obvious to the human eye all the way through to deep learning, neural nets, convolutional neural nets, where you are training a system to recognize features of the data as representative of something underlying that you're hunting for. So in the case of AI ops it's looking for the cause of, or looking for the presence of, a potential service-impacting outage in the data that we monitor, in the events. But one thing it's not going to do is, it's not going to unplug itself from the internet and come and kill you anytime soon. It's really quite benign and very useful to our customers with what they deal with. >> So, to that point, because you have so much data, and it seems like, I hate to say, most of it isn't needed or most of it isn't of value, but a lot of it isn't, if not most. How do you then decern, how do you assess value and assign value to what really is important and then, put it to use today, when you're getting so much more information than you were even a year ago? >> So just to put a little bit of context on the amount of data, way back before the cloud and virtualization, a typical enterprise, a high event rate would have been 100, 200, events a second. Nowadays, in an average customer of ours, you add a zero or two to that rate, maybe even three. And it's one of the reasons why the legacy systems really struggle with that data. So, job one is, if you accept, and I certainly do, that most of that data is junk. Most of it is inconsequential. You've got to have an algorithmic way of getting rid of that. You know, the old-fashioned way was creating lists of "ignore it because it's a certain severity", "ignore it because it comes from this list of hosts", you know, the whole listing approach. What we do is we use information science. So we can measure the semantic content, and the informational content, of an event to work out whether it's telling us something of import. And we use that technique with great effectiveness to eliminate as much as ninety, ninety-five, percent of the inbound data as effectively affecting nothing. So that narrows the data lake, you feel, down to a point where we can process it in real time through much more computer-intensive AI algorithms to kind of get that high-quality indication of an instance or a potential instance. >> A lot of machine learning and AI is based on learning from history, so, "we've seen all this stuff before and we know what that means", or, even encouraging the machines to go and look at the historical data and then pull out the details as you said. Even things that a human might miss, you'll look at that data and then learn new things. How does that work when we're doing all of this innovation? When there's all of this change and novelty coming in, how does the AI system cope with that kind of environment? >> So, you have to have a dual approach. I mean, I guess everyone's familiar with Mikolas Nassim Taleb's book, The Black Swans. He was trying to explain why it is that you can get a bunch of Nobel Prize winners in a room to design a hedge fund and it can still go bankrupt in the blink of and eye, like the long-term capital management. And the truth of the matter is, yes, an awful lot of the techniques that are supervised and based upon a training set are vulnerable to the "unknown unknowns" to misquote Donald Rumsfeld, and that's why we use a combination of unsupervised feature detection and supervised learning. The unsupervised feature detection just knows something as an unusual, highly correlated, pattern or feature in the data and needs no prior understanding of what's going on. Now, interestingly, there are some hybrid techniques now. You may have heard of something called transfer learning, which is the idea that you partially train a neural net on some kind of standard corpus. It'd be like the stuff that you already know and adapting that sort of partially trained net to something that is literally very, very, very adapted to the system that it's monitoring, it does that very quickly rather than having to wait for a certain critical amount of data before the net is converged. And so those sort of techniques, which we also experiment with at Moodsoft, I think are going to be interesting directions for us in the future with our platform, but there's maybe a hundred PhDs a week given out in AI and machine learning these days. It's definitely getting a lot of focus and there's a ton of innovation that's coming down the line. One thing that we're particularly committed to is shortening the distance between when something's invented and when we can get it into our customer's hands. >> There's usually quite a lag, historically, it's about ten years before someone discovers something and then it actually makes it into the business world so if we could shorten that cycle that would be quite useful. >> We know an academic called professor Maggie Bowden who's just getting ready to retire and she was one of the original authors of the neural net papers in the 1960's, so that kind of gives you an idea of the lag, it could be many, many, decades and it's a shame because the truth of the matter is the pressure on all the people coming to a show like this that want to benefit from the public cloud, new ways of thinking about the application development toolchain, they don't have time to wait around for that innovation to come to them. We've got to drive it a lot faster and, certainly, we view that as one of our missions at Moodsoft, as being passionately involved and sort of shortening that gap between innovation and a production implementation as something really cool. >> So what have you seen at the show so far that you think you want to take to your customers and say, "oh, actually, this is happening and you need to get on to this now"? >> One thing I've observed here is, I guess if we would've been here two years ago, nobody was talking about AI ops. I mean essentially the entirety of how people looked at the cloud was "same old stuff, just lives somewhere different, we can use all of the old techniques". You walk around here, there's a bunch of startups, more established companies, recognizing that a new approach is necessary and my sense of it is that this market which, I mean, let's be honest, we were pretty lonely in it two or three years ago, is starting to feel like it's a little more populated and that's goodness, we're very happy about that, so that is definitely a take away. You know, to go to customers and say "this is no longer bleeding edge, it's simply leading edge". >> Not just a gap in the market, there is actually a market in that gap. >> You're the bigger boat. >> Well, we hope so. >> Phil, thanks for being with us. Lisa Martin with steam in a man's way are Day one of our coverage of Cisco lie from San Diego. We're gonna be here for three days of coverage, but a great day so far. And we're pleased to welcome back one of our Cube alumni, Kenny Christiansen, the practice director from Insight with the Cloud and Data Center transformation group. Kitt, welcome back. >> Thank you for a little while. >> It has been a little while. So give our audience a little overview of inside your partnership with Cisco and some of the history of how you got to Insite. >> Um, yeah, so you remember US. Data like way were smaller company than we are now. Focus on Cloud Davidson transformation. We've talked it della vincey and see events. Things like that way We're Cisco partner for about 10 years and recently we were acquired and we did with name sounds like cloud and Data Center transformation. We've talked about cloud in the channel and all these other things um inside acquired us Insight has kind of four major service solution sets, if you would. Some people look at them is a supply chain company, and it's a great large supply chain company, Microsoft Largest global partner. Some people understand it for the device in use devices that's called connected workforce. Each of these air pretty big businesses, you know, compared to what we are. What was Data link is now what's called Cloud David Senate transformation. Um, so we're helping people with the journey to the cloud and the hybrid cloud and all that other stuff. Francisco right, Dead center in the middle of that and then the 4th 1 is really excited to go diddle diddle innovation. And that's a couple of companies Blue Metal, Cardinal, etcetera again 1,000 people. Microsoft I'll Tee and aye, aye, partner of the year. So all of that is a pretty large channel organization. If you want. >> That's great stuff can. And we always. We love to talk to the channel as the folks on Wall Street to It's like you know we do. A channel check is okay. You know, Cisco's got a few areas that have, you know, stronger growth in the market overall, security's doing well. A few other spaces that are, you know, growing faster overall than the market helping grow where we're Cisco's going. So give us the reality. What's happening with your customers? What's driving, you know, since the most growth in your business. And you know where is where is Cisco kind of leading the pack? >> So we're doing really well a system, and I don't know if it's because we're helping clients build solutions that truly lied to business outcomes. We're not order takers, so we're actually moving up. We're now 54th largest partner. We're growing well, high single digits growth, which is pretty phenomenal and such a big number. We're talking $1,000,000,000 now and growing that level on DH. There's a number of reasons, you know, some of it is there's a lot of great technology and get into some of those way. See, the economy is being pretty good. Not bad. Yet you know everybody for it. Worried about what might happen. You mentioned security. We could get into a little bit of that. That's driving a lot of network refreshed and stuff like that. Um, you know, a little bit of Inter company, you know that we're getting our stuff together. So this large company with 15,000 customers, you know, acquires a company with 2,000 customers, and now we're getting introduced into the 15,000 with less friction. So that's helping us. And that's helping Francisco business. >> So here we are at Cisco Live, 30th time that they've done a customer partner. Event network has not only changed dramatically since their first event in 89 which was called networkers, I believe. But networking technology has also massively changed. You mentioned security, and now in this multi cloud world, no longer can you just put a firewall around Data Senate, right? Obviously, that the work we have, this core cloud edge very a Morpheus environments proliferation of mobile of mobile data traversing the network's talk to us about when you're talking with customers who need to transform their data centers. Where do you start from? A networking conversation perspective, where automation comes in where security comes in, >> you know, a lot of the cloud names. Their transformation says to me the edge of the network, you know, converts, infrastructure, stuff of that that's on the edge. The network security guys, which I'm not. You know, I work with them very closely, but there we almost separated, sells out from the data center. Networking security. But security's in the end to your point, right? I've got software to find access. I've got mobile access points I've got, you know, te Trae Shin. I've got you know, all of these products that are helping people that in the past they were just patching holes in the dyke, you know? Hey, this happened. Let's put this off for product. This happened. Let's put this in. We actually built a security practice like the last three or four years ago. It's growing. You know, the number of people that are, whether it's regulation compliance. You know, I got some real problem. I think I've got a problem and I don't know what it is. Our ability to come back and sit down and say, Let's evaluate what your situation is. So I was talking to the networking guys, so wow, enterprise network is up way up. What's driving that I need to transform or is that you know what isn't there like a lot of times it's something our long security that's making them step back and reevaluate. And then sometimes that draft transfer translates into entire network refresh. >> So you mess in Cisco te Trae Shin? That's one I've heard a number of times having some growth. What? What else? What are some of the, you know, hot products out there in your >> eyes based software to find FT. When hefty access. >> So one of the things I just don't understand Cisco actually has a few solutions and some of those areas any specific products that you call out or, uh, you know, the >> enterprising, that working I wouldn't go through each and every individual one. I think this is my view of the layman, right, Because I'm the data center guy and here's the security guy hears them working. Got I think Francisco started acquiring all these security companies three years ago and you watched it. It looked like a patchwork quilt and said, This doesn't fit together now. It fits together. That story is really solid. And so we've got clients that have had the luxury of either salmon. I'm going to do a refresh because I don't want to keep plugging hole, and maybe my technology was ready for it anyway because there's a lot of reasons to refresh right. My technology do digital transformation. I need to get my network ready for Io ti etcetera. But I keep hearing security over and over, right. I've got compliance and regulation and all of this other stuff. >> But in your core space, the data center world, you know, and any products that are kind of leading the leading the charge right now, >> you know, one of the things that's happening in data center from a Cisco perspective because their babies, right, 10 years old in data centers, they didn't really have data center before that we were there at the beginning. And that's really how CDC t built our David Senate practice. So you know, when you talk multi cloud at the end of the day, even if I'm cloud first, I'm going to end up with some of these mission critical work clothes. They might be boring the running the company right there, not the innovative Deva Coyote. I think that seems cool running the company, and that's still a converged or a hyper converse play. And some of those you know, there's a lot of opportunities. We've been talking about all day with the Sisko be used. You know, some of those are ready for refresh, right? So there's a great opportunity that's going and say, OK, what's next? You know, we've added, you know, the latest server technology. We've had all these things in the server technology, obviously all flashing the storage technologies in all of that. So that's you. And then, you know, Cisco continues to innovate in data center solutions with things like Hyper flex, which were, you know, talked a little bit about getting started off a little slow, because again, just like they weren't servers. Why are they here? Why are they in hyper converts like get it? And now that product has slowly improved and improved and improved, and we're seeing tremendous growth there. And I think luxury they have on a data center solution is that some of the other guys have to do. Ah or hey, I'm the leading hyper converts technology. But it's me or everybody else, right? Um, and then this goes in and write that I could connect those things together. >> So let's talk about some customer examples you can feel free to anonymous days. I'm seeing a smile on your face when you come into an organization, whether it's 100 year old bank or it's a one of the cloud orders, maybe a smaller, more nimble organization that needs to undergo transformation did isn't a transformation. What was the conversation like with respect to helping them take all of these disparate, presumably to sprint solutions, whether they're 10 15 different security solutions, how does insight come in and help them? I want to say integrate, but almost plug these things in together to extract value and help them make sure that what they're implementing, much technology perspective is necessary and also an accelerator of their business. >> Yeah, lose a lot there. So we have this, you know. So a year ago, everybody wanted to talk about Cloud, and then they had the security guys. But now you have a lot of change. Agents of transformation, their title right? And so we have this belief you're not going to digitally transform Now. There are people that are born digital, but companies that were buying Cisco 10 years ago need to go through a digital transformation, and you can't go through a digital transformation and tell you have a data center transformation, wherein I transformation. So we've done studies. What slows people down? What makes he failed legacy stuff? Security concerns. I mean, these are the top three things, right? Budget. I was just running the pretty and so we start there that says, Where do you want to get to? And then most of it is Let's understand what you have, what? Your objectives, ours, an organization. I want to get to this. I want to get to that Well, before we start talking about technologies and it's very it's very services or even write. I can't just go in there and throw your bomb and say, This is going to fix your problem because everybody's different. So it is very custom and very services, or >> you're saying >> I was just going to say It's a pattern I've seen quite a bit for the last couple of years is step one is modernized the platform and then step two. You can worry about your data and application story on top of that in that multi cloud world. >> Step one, admit you have a problem. Yeah. So we actually did a study? Yeah. You know, we do this All right? Well, why does everybody keep stalling? Why we've been stuck in this. Nobody's refreshing things and stuff like that. Well, there's a lot of new technology. They don't get it. But, you know, do you want a digitally transform? Understand what you need to do, but we ask questions like rate your infrastructure just raided B minus across a lot of large companies. That was what the grade they gave themselves. So there's a lot of opportunities. Say, Okay, where do you wanna be? Yeah, and where do we >> start? 90% of people think they are above average drivers, so >> drivers, but they think they have a B minus in infrastructure and is like to consider that a problem. >> So once you as we wrap here in the next minute or so, once you get them to admit, yeah, there's there's problems here that incite other partners come and come in and improve data center transformation, modernizing that infrastructure, but it's got to be concurrent, was starting to modernize and transform other areas, right? >> Absolutely so you know, there's so many places you could start. Sometimes you just go and say, Well, what's your appetite Every once in a while, you get somebody who's ready to go through an entire transformational process, you know, $20,000,000 arm or whatever, and we get those opportunities. Those are awesome. Now we get to start back and figure out where you want to be and how to get there most efficiently. A lot of people have to pick up juice. You know? What's your concern right now on DH? So we'll help them figure that out again. It could be security. It could be. You know how many people we have over 1,000 enterprise customers around X equal two thousand eight? That's a problem, right? Because that's in the support within a year, right? That's a problem. That's, you know, opportunity. So they are still trying to figure out these things and then, ah, picture on where I want to get to what you kind of always said. And that's where that digital innovation group they've got all these Aye aye projects. And as we sit here and talk about those things that kind of born in the cloud, but they're common part of the infrastructure. It was easy to give the GPO in the cloud, but I'm going to have to start. So we actually have all the latest Cisco technology and storage technology of A I stuff in our labs and stuff like that. So there's a lot going on is our CEO said would say, It's a really exciting time to be in this business. >> It sounds like it. It's a pleasure and riel honor to be on the show today. >> So this morning's Kino we were talking before we went live starts with lots of energy news announcements, partnerships, collaboration, walking, you. You're in industry veteran, which will dig into, I'm sure during the segment. >> Thirty five years. >> Thirty five years. That's >> amazing. Thirty five years is how old tells going tto be tthe when the next week. >> Thirty five years. >> That's a magic number. Congratulations. Thank you Virtus Dream. Talk to us about the integration you lead those efforts. Massive acquisition. What's going on now? What's exciting? You >> Well, I think it's kind of amazing what happened in the integration. This is the largest Tak integration in the world. Sixty seven billion dollars. Shortly after Del goes private, they're going to acquire Delhi, M. C, I, E, M, C and V M, where the huge undertaking thousands of people work on it less than ten months from the time it was announced. October of fifteen. It goes live on September seven sixteen. That's amazing, and our customers reacted and are partners in a just a kn amazing way. It's almost like it didn't happen. You know, I'm biased. I think it went really well. But look at the numbers. Look at the reaction in the marketplace. The growth, the synergy, the revenue, the kinds of impact. And then you see today at Del Adele Technology World. Michael does a keynote. He talked about the impact. Karen comes up and talks about giving back and the work that we're doing around Pathetic and printing three D and artificial intelligence based your limbs. I If you're not fired up about that, you can't get energized. And then you top that off with just a GN amazing discussion about the partnership between VM wear and Del Technologies on the Del Cloud And then the work that we're doing with Microsoft and Satya comes on stage with Michael and >> Pie. I >> mean, this is a power pack woman, and we put this company just three years ago together and look at the kind of impact its house in the industry. Amazing, just amazing. >> So worry. Yeah, I think Jeff Clarke said it well this morning. He said, If you're into technology and can't get excited by what's going on, you know, May maybe you're you know, it's kind of you know, my words. Maybe you're not in the right space. You've got a few of the interesting pieces of the Del Technologies family they talk about. You know, the massive acquisition of DMC with V M. Where Purchase dream Not such a small acquisition itself. Over a billion dollars, one point two billion dollars to billion dollars. And, you know, I remember back Bhumi wasn't out that long ago either, for you know, it was less than a billion dollars, but it was a >> ***. *** is an amazing set of technology. I know you're going tohave Chris McNab on later today. Chris and I have worked on what he called the gloomy acceleration plan the last two years. Way with that team have put in a strategy around taking advantage of just an amazing set of technology. Boo Mi's cloud integration software, I believe, is the absolute best on the planet and the work that we've done. We've doubled that business in the last eighteen months. We've added probably a billion dollars of market valuation they've reached. They add thousands of customers every quarter to that portfolio, the reach and touch and how that's going to drive the way data and applications talk in the cloud era. It's just at the beginning of the impact there. And then you look at a company like Virtus Dream. It's the leader in mission Critical application Work loads on the cloud. This is a company born on the cloud. It's based on the cloud nine years ago. It's the one hand to shake. Customers choose us with their most important applications and data because they need to know that it's gonna work and that we have the experience to Planet Tau migrated, optimize it and bring it to the cloud to cloud of fire and that were the single hand to shake. What's different about us is we have an eye *** way had the infrastructure as a service. We have a software stack with extreme software. Take time. I get fired up about Bloomie's technology Virtus Stream Extreme software. Amazing. And then on top of that, you layer on a white glove said of application and professional services. Very cool. But what was the coolest? Where some of the announcements today and how we're playing with its all of'Em went bare VM were based on, uh, Virtus Dream. And when they announced the partnership with Azure and the idea of V M wear work, clothes on Azure that's actually running will be running and running on. And we've been working with Microsoft and IBM where a virtuous string and it's and then and then you know >> when you say it's running on Virtue Stream, Is it your data centers? Is it part of the soft? Oh no, The >> data, the data centers air all Adger. It's using our software and our technology team have built that said, a technology that we've been in partnership for months with Microsoft and IBM, where to create this offering as one of the Cloud Service partners foundational. It's pretty foundation and you know it. But at the end of a think about del technology is one in the ingredient brand. Sure, that's foundational. This is a company built for the next ten years. Del Technologies. And the impact it's gonna have in the industry is just beginning. Where is it going to go? You saw it this morning in the Kino. Michael has some big, big ideas, >> so worry. A lot of times we look at things in the industry and people is like, Oh, it's binary. It's public cloud or Private Cloud. I've worked with a lot of service providers, and when you look at the world multi cloud, it's really more of an end in putting. That is together. Many of the service providers that air You know where I am seeing her del partners before you know, three or four years ago Oh my gosh, A ws and Microsoft. Well, okay. A partner a little like us off, But Amazons, the enemy. And today it's well, I have our stuff and I'm partnering and I probably have connections between them. Help us. Paint is toe where virtue stream fits into this. You know this spectrum today? >> Your stew. You're on the right point about multi cloud. We just did a press release today at a virtuous stream where we partnered with Forrester. We do, ah, whole industry study on the cloud and the future of the cloud multi cloud ninety seven percent of customers. We spoke to that force or spoke to have a multi cloud strategy for their mission. Critical applications at eighty nine percent of them plan to increase their spend on multi cloud mission critical activities. How we play in that space is that we're the trusted player we've done over eighteen hundred ASAP migration. Where an epic health care leader go talk to Novaya. They asked them how it's gone on Virtus Dreams Cloud amazing set of mission critical capability. But what we're taking is there's this infrastructure is a service in the software stack on the services that software stack is extreme. What we want to do is enable that software stack to manage data and applications in a private environment, a public environment on Prem, and it's all based on the M where so it ties directly into Jeff and Pat's announcement This morning, where they talked about Veum, where being a platform and how they're going to create the Del Cloud on that platform. Virtus Dream is one of the destinations for mission critical workload, but because it's based on VM, where technology it seamlessly begins to integrate across that and allows us to manage data and applications linking our extreme software with the BM, where capabilities that allowed that data and the AP eyes to exchange data and flow freely in a multi cloud world, ninety seven percent of the customers and the forest to research we just released are going to go multi cloud for mission critical, not just based. This's for their most critical applications data >> so future your energy is outstanding in your enthusiasm for this. What are some of the early reactions that customers air having to some of this exciting, groundbreaking news that's coming out today? What do your expectations? >> Well, you know, I spent time with customers, uh, every week and we talk about it, but I've actually talked to customers this day today about it. They found the energy, the passion that the technology that was introduced this morning was sort of game changing because to Stu's point, they are going in a multi cloud era and they know it's going to be multi cloud. And there's going to be on Prem public private. It's gonna link altogether. They need the technology trusted advisors that can work with them, not with a single answer. That only fits one way. Adele Technologies. You want to run on Prem? We have those capabilities you want to run on public count. We have those technologies you want to run in a hybrid kind of solution or a private cloud. We're going to create the ability with these announcements today, tow link it together and create the ability to do it seamlessly, efficiently, productively, cost effectively that allows Our customers too dramatically transformed their business to take them on that digital transformation to disrupt their industries and win. Because when our customers win, we win. That's what we do. Adelle Technologies, we and able our customers to win, and it's all about the customers every single day. You talked about the integration when Michael said every day when we were doing the integration, he said on every decision. When we were building the company, we basically built a new company level by level, he said. The guiding principle that every decision is customer in How does this matter of the customer? How does it make a difference for the customer? And I think we live that everyday. There's fifty fifteen thousand of our closest friends here in Las Vegas there, pretty excited to be here. And why did they take that time? Because we're one of their trusted partners on their digital transformation journey. That's not a bad place to be. If you can't get excited about that, >> Yeah, I'm Rory in the wrong industry. It was amazing to me how fast that immigration work happened. We talked to Howard Elias a bunch along the journey. I'm glad we finally get to you, get you on the record for >> Howard's in the Be's and Guy. What an awesome partner. >> And so you know, one of them's dried. It's ten months is you know, if this thing had taken twenty four months, so much of the industry would have changed by the time from when you went into when you went out. So I guess How do you how do you look at kind of those massive waves versus you know where you need to be with products today in the market and where customers are because you know the danger. You say I want to listen to the customers. Well, you get the old saying if you ask customers they wanted, you know Ah, faster buggy. You know how right you are so right, You make sure you're, you know, hitting that next wave and keeping up with it. I look at you know, all the pieces you have of the puzzle that is the family and in different places along the spectrum. >> Well, I think there's, you know, there's value in the diversity of thought, right, and we talk about on Workforce. But it's a business. The idea that Del technologies is this group of businesses and all these experiences coming together and the interactions with customers from the smallest mom and pop shops farms toe all the way to the most Jake Ganic industry. Transformational companies. You were exposed to a lot of things, and with the kind of forty, one hundred and forty thousand professionals working together and with Michael's vision and the El Tee's vision, there's an ability to see that future, and he is always looking at the future. It's interesting. I worked for a lot of interesting people, but you know, Michael's ability to Teo understand data and of you, he said. It's about having a big year, right? Your ears be twice the size of your mouth. I mean, you gotta listen. And I seriously think he must have a tree of Keebler elves creating data and information. I've never seen so much someone with more data and information. And he he listens. He values the input. He's quick to make a decision, but the team rot rallies around that idea. How can we find that future? And if we make a mistake, let's fix it fast. Let's learn really quick. Make that decision, learn quickly, adjust and capture the opportunity. And it's all about speed and what matters to the customer. I've seen it firsthand. I've been here four years. I spent twenty three years at IBM. I spent five years in Lenovo as their CEO and president. I was CEO and president of Advanced Micro Devices. It's amazing environment where you create a place where technological leaders come every day to solve the most difficult solutions with the founder of the company. That's one of the industry icons, and it's just an amazing privilege and honor to be part of it. And I think you feel that from every person you talk to, that's part of Del Technologies. I am being part of that. Integration was one of the most proudest experiences of my life, and you know what we did way never ran it as an integration office. We kept the decisions with the line with the business, and we had a rapid pays to get through it and decided, and we learned quickly and we adjusted as we went. It wasn't perfect, but it wass pretty close. It's pretty close and I'm bias. I got it. I buy just But it was good. It was good. It was really a great thing. And Howard, amazing guy. But it was because people believed in the vision and they all work together. And when people work together, you can grow, do amazing and great thing. >> You're right. Live from Orlando, Florida I'm Lisa Martin with Peter Burress, and we're welcoming to the keep for the first time. Jeff Fully senior business development manager from Siemens. Jeff. Thanks for joining Peter and me today. >> Thanks for having me appreciate >> it. So everybody knows Seaman's in some form or fashion or capacity. Ah, here we are in a cyber security event. Talk to us a little bit about what Seamen's and Fortinet are doing together as partners and a little bit about your role in business. >> Sure, so the organization the part of semen that I'm a part of, is more of a digital industries. So what we do is ah, lot of NT operational technology environment area. So it's it's more of the harsh environments oil and gas, waste water, rail transportation. So we do a lot of the communication and the cyber security around that. We're working with Fortinet in order to bring the best of the practices on cybersecurity into that OT environment. So we're doing a collaboration between the two because there's that communication that needs to happen. They still need that access point into at OT environment >> Now. Explain why? Because because, you know, guys have grown up presuming that everything was going to be connected and a lot of business leaders presume that everything's going to be connected. The okey guys have had to work in a very, very different world where they had to do real time work, sometimes for thirty years. So take us a little bit through that dynamic. And why is it that today we actually Khun, start having conversations about how these two things come together, work together and generate value together? >> Sure, so typically from operational technology environment when they put something together, is normally for a twenty or thirty year span. They want to put something in the network and the environment that's going to last. That's going to be out there. It's not. They don't change it. They don't upgrade it normally, as they do in the ninety environment, which typically has like a five year life cycle. So in OT environment, what's happening? Noah's know times are changing and all these cyber attacks are happening. They're being mandated to do this. A good example is, in two thousand five, President Obama signed into a legislative order that you, we must in the US secure critical infrastructure and part of that securing that, saying We're going to make sure that you know we're not going to be happy because in the utility market, if we take down four of the major interconnects between their power grid than that stated that us had become a third world country in eight days. So what we're doing is >> not do that. >> No, we're trying to help prevent that. So by doing so, we need to add security. And historically, from noti environment, it's always been about there's not been remote access. There's not been that connectivity. It's always been about electrical and mechanical devices. But now is these devices are getting smarter. They're getting Mohr intelligent. There's more information to get out of it. You get more efficiency and more information out of so you can know. Do your job better. You could do remote access. And like in Florida, here we have a bunch of hurricanes. There's the ability to say after a hurricane, I could get remote access or I could do that communication out to these devices where you wouldn't be able to do periodically in the past. So because of that, because connectivity we need to start securing our infrastructure to make sure that no, as we get access to that potential, that the bad guys get access to those devices, too. So we're working with our product portfolio and partners like Fortinet in order to make sure that we're applying the best of the security in the O t world. >> So when this convergence, we're talking probably with folks who are not used to change. Change is hard for everybody. However, as you said and back in two thousand five became a presidential mandate. But also it >> was two thousand fifteen >> two thousand five. Obama signed in tow the listen president till two thousand. And I'm sorry. >> Thank you for the mass >> housing one. >> Yeah, just years ago on the math expert. So just a few years ago, there was this mandate from President Obama which we clarified was only four years ago. So but historically, folks that are not used to having to change system so quickly. Yet here's this mandate. There's also this increasing abundance of separate tax. How do you have those, I presume, difficult conversations with Theo Teesside about the opportunity for OT convergence and the benefits and why they have to get on board with this. >> So historically, from the OT side, they've been very reluctant to do something like this. They want to own their own environment. They want to do that. It's always been the perception that if you bring that cyber security of the world into that OT environment, it's going to hinder their operations. But that's not really the case. The convergence of T and O. T has been happening for decades now. I started my job seem it's in two thousand in the telecom world, and we were doing that convergence of n ot back in two thousand when we're doing voiceover. I pay right because that was happening back then. So this convergence of Tino Tee is It's an ongoing thing. It's just in. Different markets are different industries, so now that we're doing that, we're bringing it in there. They're starting to have that conversation, but then it becomes a really who owns that The operation are who owns that security? No ot still wants to drive their own. They want to own their own. Where I saying, Look, I know we have the knowledge we have experience. Let's help you get there So there's generally a demarcation point that they've come to an agreement on where I Teo say we're going to help you to this point. And then you can own all the critical assets out on the far end. >> So let's talk about that demarcation point. What constitutes what characterizes that demarcation point? What are where are we today? Because we're moving from hardwired, uh, thirty year footprint to increasingly wireless, uh, faster. We're moving towards that, but we're how far our way when you talk to customers. What is what are the attributes of that demarcation point? It's >> interesting because we sew it. That goes everything we saw of customers that are on dialogue, communication, serial communication, Ethernet fiber, wireless. Lt s o. There's a broad range of that we call the pipe. So you know the pipe is the communication just between the side down to the OT side really helps to find that demarcation is when you get down to what are the critical assets, what's really the operation or what's making money for that company on those of the assets, which really the operational organization's own and then the side really provides that communication down to that to that ball. >> Got it. So it's really business specific. But are we starting to see Are we started to see? Well, it's got a little bit more processing power or it's got a little bit more. There's the's security attributes that are associated with it or ot guys picking up on T related security, starting elements of it faster than others >> they are on. But really, it's it's ah, it's region and as industry specific and it's really what's driving it So like in the U. S. Like I meant in the utility sector, three utility sector has requirements called no exit, and these narcs IP requirements said you must do these things and they get very specific to the point of. You must have something that will detect anti virus or malware. You must do this if you look into Canada. Canada just recently passed away. Be requirements for Ontario and those are based upon framework cyber security framework to do that. So it's really debate the industry that they're in and the region that they're in. That's what's really driving that our how deeper and far they're going to go. >> And it goes back to your original point that it's being driven by regulatory edict or a past exposure and trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. >> They don't want to make the news, and they don't want to be pushed by the government. But those were really the two things in the operational technology or environment that's really driving for that cyber. >> Thank you, Sierra, One of your favorite success stories that really highlights the opportunities that O. T. And I t Convergence have enabled for customers of forty nine Seaman's >> Oh yeah, there's, ah again because I'm global experience. No, I've got around the world, but actually one of the favorites is Actually, there's two of them that have happened just here in North America, Oneness in Texas and one is in Canada. And both of these requirements came to say that they had a specific date, that they needed to make requirements to meet the regulatory otherwise, that they were going to get fined and they came to us and it is both home were pretty last minute. So what we're able to do is to say, Look, we have this platform that's rated for harsh environment. That's no into your networking to provide that communication. So then what we could do is we can work with our partners, put that application on that OT environment and then install and get certified for your application. So there was two of you, Like I said, one in the U. S. And one in Canada. Which way made the deadline's where they came back and said, No, thank you very much, very appreciative. >> And how quickly were you able to get this up and running is that they didn't miss the deadline and we're able to certain gleanings value from this. >> I just did a write up on one. We got a phone call on a Friday that they needed to provide a solution. So we worked over the weekend, and on Monday we proposed a solution. So once you do that, no, obviously they need to go through their value chain to get to sign offs, and we have to go through our process. But it was within thirty days were able to install it make their deadline and make sure that they were compliant. >> That's a pretty good marketing message to deliver that you guys could enable Such It is such a big convergence and it's a month's period >> of thirty days. >> Pretty impressive. >> That was, That was That was one thing that I think we all worked out. There was a deadline. We all work toward that. It was a trusted partner thing, you know. The customer came to us, they were asking for some stuff. They trusted us to do that. So like I said, we worked over the weekend, help them do that. We felt we had the right solution to address their requirements and at the end of the day were ableto meet that thirty day deadline. >> But the trust is not just with you. It's not just a seaman's. It's with an expanding array of cos it Seaman's is working. That's correct. What is it like working with a company like Ford Net to try to ensure that these new domains that are characterized by enormous uncertainty, technological operational organisational are not undermined by challenges of crafting that sushi solution together in such ways, it can be implemented quickly and with a high degree facility. >> I think it's a great opportunity for saying it's important not to be working together only from the fact of Fortinet has got the history. They've got the technology. They've got the name in their market space on DH. They've got the capability to deliver that Siemens. And for if you look from our customer space in our environment, no, we're very well developed, well entrenched in our customer. So to be able to bring the technology and the experience and the know how and bring that those cyber security requirements which are now being pushed down into the OT environment in and no amount of time it's not. There's no development needed, there's no additional stuff fourteen and already has that knowledge from the space. So to bring that into the environment, it's very beneficial. I think both of us, in order to help drive their customer opportunities in our market. >> And they talked a lot this morning during the keynote about where they are from the competitive leadership perspective that was peppered, ah, lot throughout the first at least ninety minutes of the keynote. But presumably obviously everybody has choice. Everybody likes choice. Simons has choice there. I'm just curious to get your take on some of the announcements that came out today from Fortinet. Does that excite Seaman's? Were you involved in that? In terms of being able to take the next set of customers who have the same challenge that you describe with the Texas based on Canada based customers and show them we can help you together? Seaman's importing that transform in thirty days. >> I think it's very exciting with fourteen that's doing in the new capabilities and functional yet they're coming out with. I think that's really going to be able to enhance our offering because it's really a differentiator for us. If you look at us from the operational technology side, there's not a lot of people out there that can actually do with porting that's able to bring to the table. So all these additional features functionality that was coming out by Fortinet to be able to put it on to our platform and our environment and to be able to offer that in the operational technology side. So I think it's a big differentiator from our competitors for both forty and for seeming to be able to jointly provide this offering to our customers. >> Just one question about your competition. A lot of companies like Siemens, especially that especially strong in the OT space, not just your customers. But suppliers like yourselves have also struggled a bit as they try to find a Z trying navigate that way forward to convergence of tea. No tea on appropriate convergence of tea. No tea. What is it about Seamans that has allowed you to not stub your toe or cut off your leg? Like some of the competitors, >> I believe that's because we've had a long history in both the A I T o T space. If you look at the vertical, are the digital industry that we're in right now. It's been very much ot centric for the last twenty five thirty years, but we have seen minces No. Three hundred seventy nine thousand people worldwide strong. We're very embracing the newer technology and the newer capabilities myself coming. No, starting with Siemens twenty years ago with a nice background being able to bring that knowledge that ability and doing that convergence of the idea no t within Seaman's for so long. I think we understand our customers, and we've been listening to them. And then we're partnering up with companies like Fortinet. Health says, Bring that technology that capability to our customers >> said that expertise, that partnership, What's your recommendation has be wrapped things up here for customers who are at the precipice of being able to understand why I know Teenie to converge with your recommendation for them to tackle this challenge successfully. >> I think the best advice I could have is let's sit down and have that conversation. Let's see what the requirements are. Let's see what they're trying to accomplish because I believe with the solutions that Siemens has between communication, the network in the security and then they technology and the capability that forty nets bring to the table we can to help design a customized solution for their environment in order to make sure that they can address their cyber security needs >> and do so quickly.
