Yeah, I'm half Greek, half German so I can expect, okay. Is smart. Good. So Derek, I gotta ask you, so IOT is hot. Explain quickly your role at AWS because you're not an I-Team specifically define your scope. So my scope is owning all or my team's sculpt is owning old software services and tools that deal with non it equipment. >>So when you go to AWS and look for IOT, all the service that you'll find, that's the scope of my teams and this it group which have all the it stuff and just feels like cars, manufacturing sensors, all of the axioms for the NFL, all that good stuff. So women, you're going to see Edelweiss so I go AWS, amazon.com and then you're fine either. means all of our compute, all of our databases, all of our storage and there's also all of our and Melanie and I and then there's an IOT section and there you find all of the goodness that we do for IOT. You know, it's exciting. Stu and I talking about all week here, the whole cloud native, you take the T out of cloud native, it's cloud naive. You've got the general commercial business and public sector barely getting their act together. They're transforming, they're doing it now. >>He's $1 trillion on a vouch. Trillions of dollars of of change coming. Good up business opportunity. But if they're having trouble transforming, you get this whole new world of industrial edge which requires computing cars manufactured. This is a hot area. So a lot of change happening. What is the most important story people should pay attention to in your area that that's notable for this collision of all this transformation? I think maybe the most notable story that we currently have is a corporation that they do with the VW, which is the largest a car manufacturer. And you were just lucky that via their CIO mountain Huffman being part of Verona for good's keynote, our CTO. So if you haven't seen that, just go and review the keynote of Verner and then as the larger part then he was talking about all of that, what he calls industrial 4.0, this digitization fourth revolution. And Martin did an awesome job explaining what are we doing together with them to build their industrial cloud. Yeah. >>Uh, well, one of the things we've been really watching is the, the extent that Amazon services are starting to push out. Uh, I've been super excited, really looking at some of the growth of there. Your team did a bunch of announcements ahead of the show including the one that caught my eye the most was the IOT green grass sport for Lambda and Docker. Maybe start there and walk us through some of the new pieces that in your org. Okay. >>Maybe for us to understand the offer three type of offerings for our customers. One is device software, which might sound strange that a cloud company actually gives you a software that it's not running on the cloud, but then you're talking about IOT. You need software running on your devices in order to be able to be controlled and communicate with the cloud and we have an offering in that area which is called IOT Greenglass, which is a software runtime that you can install on edge devices like gateways for example, and via announced junior additions to our IOT Greenglass. One is Docker supports, which was very important because up till now green were supporting machine learning at the edge and Lambda, which is our service offering, but many companies now more established enterprises said, you know what, I have legacy applications which I can package. Can I deploy them as well? >>Now you can deploy Docker containers, Lambda functions, and a melody edge all with one goal with green glass at the edge. So that was one of the announcements we did for our device >> software. They're, I want to get your thoughts on an area that we're reporting on and doing a lot of investigation, collecting a lot of data, talking to a lot of people and that's around the industrial IOT or IOT, industrial IOT. And one of our big concerns, I want to get your reaction to this and thoughts is security is of paramount importance because it's not just a DDoS attack or some malware which is causing credit card data or these kinds of theft. You could actually take over machines. People could die this and serious issues around the guarantee. This is the number one conversation. What is the state of the art security posture in your area around software and the edge? >>So at AWS, whether it's IOT or any other workloads, we always say if you have two primary zeros, one is security and one is operations. Because if any company puts their faith in us, if we are down, their business is down and if there would be any security issues, of course all the trust would be broken and we do the exact same approach. Now with IOT, so we built our services with security in mind. For example, when you connect to AWS IOT core, every single individual device needs to have certificates to be identified. If you require that you can encrypt your data, it doesn't even lo you to connect to the cloud without encryption. We have software, as I said, at the edge with Amazon free artists and Greengrass where we support all of the hardware TM modules that you have security postures there. If you have secrets managers, they even have an award winning clout. >>If you're like security tool, which is called IOT device management, but at any given point in time audits but the you configured correctly and does something like detection. If something's going wrong, like when you get your credit card and said, Hey, by the way, have you been in this country? Candy making any purchase? If you figure out if something's going wrong with your device >> and you feel good that it's built in from zero, I mean you've got DNS tax going on. What? I mean you feel comfortable that it's, I mean we believe whatever we build, you can never be 100% sure and security is always evolving. But we believe that we are at the forefront of being, you're always the latest and greatest technology at the hands of our customers. >>Jerks. That's really powerful. Cause I saw one of the other announcements was really taking the Alexa voice service integration, but if I understand it rightly, it pulls that core along. So you know part of me was like, it's like okay Alexa enabled everywhere. That's great. I don't need 700 devices in my house that all have that. But the security piece is going to be needed everywhere. So help us tease that out. >>Maybe, maybe don't understand what we did you ask about the other launches. We also launched something called AVS integration for IUT and AVS stands for Alexa voice services. So if you know Alexa, that's our digital assistant that runs for example an equity devices, but if you want to build a device as a third party, which you can directly talk to media, there's microphones and speakers that is called AVS or Alexa built in devices and if you wanted to build one today you needed to put quite some resources onto this device because it needs to understand you. It needs to have a lot of audio processing. That means there's a lot of memory involved and quite some processing. Now I'm using some technical terms. You need something like a cortex, a CPU which makes this device expensive. So the bill of material is quite elevated and we were working with our Alexa team saying is how can we make this really, really affordable? >>If you found a trick where we said let's offload all of this audio processing to the cloud that you an eSense can build very dumb devices. The only thing that these devices don't need to do is have microphones, have our speaker and what we call a week work detection. They need to wake up and you say, Alexa, echo computer, everything else gets streamed to the cloud. Ptosis sits there and comes back so that you can reduce cost for those devices by at least a factor of half. And we had a great customer on stage as well because if you can make so cheap Alexa built in devices, you can put this into a light switch and iDevices now believe it or not, non-sales light switch. Yup. Which you can now directly talk to, reach, talks back and place your music. They're talking about your role. Again, I want to understand that you are not technical side, your development teams. What are you, what do you do on a daily basis? What's your job? So officially I'm a VP of engineering, so I'm a tech guy, so I love the hoodie. By the way. This is tech. That's because I'm on video. Okay. >>It looks great. So I'm an engineer by Heights and at Amazon we don't have a separation between businesses and product management and engineering. They call it a single thread of leaders that we believe the teams have to own it all. So that means my teams on everything from the conception of their services, the development operations that what be called dev ops and also the business behind. So that means all of the services, whether it's free outro, screen grabs at the edge, but it's IOT core device management and defender or our data services like IOT analytics or your talked about industrial site wise, their health or being conceived by my teams. They have all been developed and they are all operated today so that all customers can use that as it make. What should people >>totally does. Thanks for clarifying. That's awesome. Uh, what should people pay attention to? What should we be reporting on in your area? What are some of the key things that people watching this should pay attention to in this, in your IOT area? What are the most important items and products and services that you're doing? I think >>one of the most important things to understand is be talk just before the interview about this, that a lot of the technical hurdles actually solve that because we have the software on devices, we have the connectivity controlled services, and we have all the analytic services to make sense of the data that you can take actions. You don't need to be an expert in machine learning anymore to do machine learning at AWS. You don't have to be an embedded software developer to get connected devices. You don't have to be a data scientist to understand what your data does. The most interesting part though is there is a cultural aspect of this because in the past you had to ideally most likely in your old company join said, Oh, I would like to connect something, so do I have a purchase acquisition? Can I go to my finance team? Does it install this today? You don't need that anymore. With AWS IOT, the same thing that happens with the cloud and it happens with IOT. So understanding that via very powerful tools for engineers in the company that you can build at any given point in time. I think that's maybe the most, >>and I think the it, I think that whole process of the time it takes, they go to the airport on Thanksgiving, go through TSA and knows all that pre ocracy. And then the other thing too is that the other IOT used to be kind of a closed system self, um, form dot devices. Now you've got with Clough, you've got a lot more range and compatibility. Can you talk about that address, address that issue? Because there might be still legacy out there and no problem. It's data's data, but those are the days come in the cloud. But there's now a new shift happening where it's not just, you know, fully monolithic OT devices if it, so the pasta >>monolithic what's called machine to machine, close systems, IOT is the opposite there. It's where you say now all the devices and connections can be done in between the devices and the cloud. So it's system of systems. And in order to make that happen. For example, when you call it the legacy systems, we also announced on Monday and our IOT day additional features for IOT core that you can migrate legacy systems much easier to the cloud without that you need to update your devices. >>Yeah. Dirk, one of the things I find most interesting about your space as you span between the consumer and the enterprise piece, so I remember a few years ago there was like a hackathon on building skills for Alexa and it got lots of people involved. There was a giveaway of lots of the devices there. You know, we used to talk about the consumerization of it. How is what's happening in the tumor world? You know, how is the enterprise going to take care of take that and transform business as we see IOT permeating everywhere. >>So the capabilities that you need, whether you're going in industrial or in consumer or in the medical or pick your favorite other vertical is in essence the same. You need to connect the devices. You need to ensure that they're secure. We talked about security. You need to make sense of the data, whether you do this in the home with your television or your light switch or your robot, or you do the exact same thing with the most sophisticated robot in the industry. It's the same thing. The good thing about us handling all of those sites is that the scale that we gain with literally hundreds of millions of devices now managed by our service in the backend of course means we will handle all of that scale also in the industry and the security and postures and complexity that we need to handle an industrial also benefits computer, so our consumer side, so you benefit from both sides, very cheap and scale on the one industrial benefit. Very complex. How do you solve that consumable benefit, so it's very fruitful synergies if you like, >>Oh, you guys love to solve problems at Amazon that's going to eat those. Yeah. Derek, thank you so much for coming on and sharing the insights and what you're working on and what's important. Congratulations on all your success. Thank you so much. The threaded leader here. Final question for you. Eighth year of reinvent. It gets bigger every year. Louder. Crazier for parties, more business development more. Exactly. I mean just, it's crazy. Yeah. It's just say work hard, play hard. What is your favorite thing going on here? What's the coolest thing that you've seen? >>I think the coolest thing, and it might sound a little cheeky, is, is the excitement from all of our customers and partners coming here every year. >>PR tells you to say, I'm not about fraud. I mean, you're talking about products. I love my products. I'm still so happy about that. I mean, I can talk to a light switch now. Well, you see the comma car and the other quad had the area that we have yet. It's a very different experience that you can do. Don't talk to your lights, which when you get home your wife will think you're going crazy. I love that. Thank you for coming on. Really appreciate it. Thanks for having cube coverage here. Two days of coverage, we're on day two, learning a lot about the global security, cyber security, and protection. Market place and Solutions. Our next guest is Alex Miroshnichenko. Also know as Alex Miro. Great to have you on. And great chatting with you prior to coming on camera. Thanks for coming on. >> My pleasure, thank you. >> So Vice President of Cyber Infrastructure for Acronis, essentially looking at your platform. That's essentially the hyperconverged stack underneath the platform software you're enabling, kind of the critical infrastructure for-- >> That's, yeah that's one-- >> the platform. >> one way to describe it. It is infrastructure we provide the complete stack. All the way whatever you're ran on top of. The standard comminuting hardware, including the virtualization layer. Capability to run the still standard container workloads. And essentially optimized for whole cyber platform. It's good enough. >> You know you're interesting background. We were talking before we came on camera about your background. Certainly you've seen waves of innovation, you've been a high performance, storage enterprise, infrastructure, engineer and developer, and executive. A lot has change in past couple of years, and certainly the past decade. You're on the vSAN wave, you saw that storage wave, and now we're in a cloud wave. Now we're on premise with hybrid. >> All right. >> So hybrid, certainly now a big part of the operating model. >> Correct. >> So the operating system is not just storage anymore, it's a system view. What's your personal opinion on where storage is now? I've heard software defined data center from VMware for years. We've even joked about software defined storage, software defined compute. >> Everything. >> I mean everything software defined, but software is the game. Scale's a game, high performance is a requirement. What's changed in storage right now? >> Well in everything and in nothing at the same time. As I said, like, remember going back to thirty years ago. It's like, "Oh gosh, the storage is exploding!" You know, soon we're going to have like two gigabytes. (laughter) You know a company server, my God! And, or, where's it going to be coming from. Like imagining when people started recording music, like they seeing this MP3 things is coming up so. >> Yeah. It's the same game, different year. More game, more storage. >> It's just like, It's this exponential curve. It's like the shape of the curve stays the same. And to be honest, I, part of me never believes that. Like come on, how much bigger can it get, and now everybody's like we get IUT line, we got like those cameras. Streaming things 24/7 and every possible thing you can think of. And of course we're going to store everything, but we obviously don't know what to do with it, but. So from that point of view, the demand keeps growing and you need, you have technologies to handle that appropriately. >> Yeah. >> And again, it's just not a matter of kind of throwing the bits somewhere and forgetting about them. It's just keeping them in the predefined order, and actually being able to process them. And Acronis in the business of a cyber protection. Some people say: "Oh you guys are just "like a back up company." I mean yeah, that's the fundamental part of that, but as you pointed in our pregame chat, as you call it. (laughter) Is, the traditional data protection guys, be that backup, you know you can think about as the various, like a raid as a way to protect your data. They are all about defending against like physical disruption as you call it, right. My disk died, my data center died. You know, my power went out. >> Yeah >> So what do I do? I was the data. But it does not protect you, what I call a logical destruction. I mean back in the classical. >> Logical disruption, what does, >> Disruption >> Okay yeah logical disruption >> Did I say this destruction?. Okay. >> Disruption. It's almost the same thing. >> Right >> I mean, ransomware is pretty much destructive. I mean it's hostage at that point. Logical meaning nonphysical, not like an event like a hurricane or outage or something like that. >> I mean you remove the wrong file, the right file and you didn't notice that. And then you went through several back up cycles and then you realize, " Oh, I want my files back" but then you, the back up that had that file is gone. I mean what are you going to do right? Nothing got disrupted, destructed or destroyed. (laughter) But your files gone. >> So logical disruptions or destructions that's happening, certainly your security points that out. >> But the security is the big thing. That's what the people didn't think about it back, definitely not like me, back twenty years ago. It's like, they. So what happens if you see some got hacked or like people, like a ransomware, right. It's specifically the product designed to muck with your storage. Encrypted, deleted, whatever they want to do there. And again, next thing you know, you're backing up junk that will keep a virus somewhere. And then you go to your back ups and then it's like oh my God, where's everything? Because it's all dead. >> So you're saying people have really strong back up and recovery, but they're recovering malware that they stored. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. >> It's like. (laughter) >> So that seem like an obvious problem, but nobody but Acronis as actually provides an integrated solution to deal with that. I mean there are different, I mean people know what the problem is and there companies out there, like we'll scan your backup archives, and will find malware backup. Fine, great. But then anybody could try to really deal with their restore, in a critical situation, knows that even without the malware concerns, it's stressful shall we say. >> Yeah and it's not always predictable. And it's post haste too. After the fact. >> Right. But if the malware is involved that's, you know, it becomes and extremely expensive and sometimes impossible operation. Acronis takes care of that. Because you know we can actually monitor your back ups. We can find out where was the last time you were clean. It's a post-hoc. We're purposely practical sort through, kind of real time scanning for viruses. So it's a multilevel cyber protection. Which is fairly, I think, >> New >> I think it's unique in the industry. >> Well I think it's interesting how you guys have brought data protection concepts and paradigm, and practice by the way into cyber with much more holistic view. >> Right. >> And I think that's like an operating system kind of thinking. And thinking holistically is about systems. And systems has consequences. If something goes wrong over here it's affecting it, all over the place. >> Right. You've got to the right software for that. >> And I have a very strong system background or DNA as they sometimes like to say that. And in fact the first virtualization solution and containers for that matter, were built by the Acronis engineering team. More than fifteen years ago, way before anybody in the Linux world new how to spell container or what they mean. So our storage layer, software defined storage, >> Yeah. it's fully blown HCI product. Complete around, understand who built that. That gives us a unique advantage among the security companies. >> You know I got to ask you a question. I'm fascinated, I'm a student of history and also of competitive advantage when it comes to technology platforms, and the one thing I always say and see is entrepreneurs whether they're young or old, is that there's two types of entrepreneurs: there's a systems thinker and a coder, right. And I think with platforms you can't short cut a platform because there's trajectory benefits, economies of scale for putting the work in. You can't just put a platform out there over night. You got to have a, you got to build it and it takes time. So there's some people trying to exhilarate platforms. Some have done the work, you guys have done it for a long time. What's your view on that whole: "Well I'm going to throw a whole platform out there." What are some of the things that get exposed when I try to push a platform too fast? >> Well, the platform presumes that you have an ecosystem, people actually using it and building stuff on top of that. Like every, you talked about the coders, every programmers, software developer, or most of them at least. They dream of two things: To write and create a new programming language. Finally the one. >> Yeah, yeah. (laughter) Or the other kind of guy is like, I'm going to write a new operating system. I went through that phase mostly an operating system. Log time ago. And it's a process. I mean whatever you build has to actually serve the purpose. >> Yup. >> There are a lots of platforms in all areas of technology that people's like: "Oh, we're going to create a set of API's "and anybody can plug into us." It's like unless you solved the real problem and really simplify life for people, they're not going to do that. They're not going to do, use a platform for the sake of using the platform. Our cyber platform is different because we're essentially exposed our API's to our technology that's out there and people has been using. I mean, I don't know you saw the keynote yesterday, there was a demo the way how to write, let's go to plug in for the sake of better term. For the person who's interviewed. When people can add their own policies to cyber protect workflow. Which could be specific to what they're doing. You know they notarize things like that. That plan the platform makes sense because it's already out there and it responds to customer demands. We love what you guys do but we have this special, a specific set of requirements. If it's general enough, incorporate it into the product but there's also a lot of things which could be specific to a vertical or even to a specific company. >> Yeah. >> We just want to enable them to do stuff. >> Well that's what platforms are they're enabling >> Right. >> They have to enable some capabilities that provides value to >> Right. >> that use case. And that can be custom or domain specific. >> I'm sorry what? >> That could be domain specific. >> Yes, I'm sorry. >> A platform enables capabilities for someone to do something. (mumbles) >> Yes, but again the key point to the platform is, it has to kind of solve a real problem, not be there for the sake of elegance, or solution, or API's or thing of that nature. >> Final question for you Alex. I'm a CIO or CSO or I'm there decision making, man you know what, I got to rethink my enterprise architecture, I got to think about, I got IoT coming, I got industrial IoT and just regular IoT, I want to have a comprehensive platform. Why Acronis, what's the pitch? And what's different than the traditional SAN's and storage and other solutions out there? What's that pitch to that enterprise decision maker about Acronis? >> Well. You kind of, like you said, you have a tremendous growth in your data flows, the number of data sources are exploding. That's actually going back to your previous question. I think that's what one of the difference is. That it's not just the volume of data, it's the breadth of the data sources you're getting that. So you kind of have to manage that cat zoo some how or it's not even a cat, I don't know. I don't know what the right world analogy for that. So how you guys going to manage that if you have to protect it? At least you have to know what your exposure is, and what the things there. And just throwing out a bunch of you know, like standard cyber, >> Point products. >> technology point products is not going to solve it. I mean yes you can hire lots of people, you can build your own thing, you would be effectively reinventing lot of wheels in the process while we already have that solution for you. >> I like the platform idea because it makes data more addressable horizontally scalable. It's not a side load. >> Right. >> (mumbles) product that you can actually work and enable the data. Data's moving around and you got to be acting on. >> Yes. >> You need software to do that. >> Yes, exactly. So that's another thing. It's not, it's like a structure data, resting on structured data. There's discussions been going on for many years. You know the reality is you will always have both types and you always have the need to process them in both ways. And that's the flexibility. >> I have one more question final question since I just popped in my head. So final, final question. What's in the infrastructure platform that you're involved in that people should know about, that they might not know about that's important to investigate? Is there a killer feature, is there a killer thing in there that is notable that they should know about? What's under the hood on the infrastructures side for Acronis? >> Well lots of things. >> What's your favorite features? >> What are you talking about? >> What's your favorite feature? What's the one thing? >> Gosh you know it's like I have lot of data and I love them all. It's kind of hard >> Yeah you can't take sides. >> It's not sides. Let's say I've been writing storage most of my career. So I like storage. But that doesn't mean it's more important or less important than other things. >> Yeah. >> Unless you have a comprehensive compute layer on top of that. The storage is just, then it becomes a storage vendor, niche vendor, so that's not who we are. I'm really fascinated by actually the integration with the like cyber feature in the security because that's on one hand it's not something that I've been doing in my previous career for most of the time, but I do have a lot of kind of understanding of the workflow issues and integration points. >> Yeah. >> And that excites me. Yes, but again the key point to the platform is, What's that pitch to That it's not just the volume of data, I mean yes you can hire lots of people, I like the platform idea because it makes data and enable the data. to do that. You know the reality is you will always have What's in the infrastructure platform Gosh you know it's like I have lot of data But that doesn't mean it's more important for most of the time, That's one the reasons. We're on J to learning a lot about the global security, cybersecurity and protection marketplace and solutions. Our next guest is Alex Amir Shenko, also known as Alex Miro. Great to have you on and great chatting with you prior to coming on camera. Thanks for coming on. So vice president of cyber infrastructure at Krones. Essentially looking at your platform, that's essentially the hyperconverged stack underneath the platform software. You're enabling kind of the critical infrastructure for it. >>Yeah, that's the one we did a lot of way to describe it. It is infrastructure. We provide the complete stack all the way, whatever you run on top of the standard commodity get hardware, including the virtualization layer to keep that bit different around this, the standard container workloads and essentially optimized for, you know, they all work for the cyber platform. >>You know, your interesting background, we were talking before we came on camera about your, your background. Certainly you've seen waves of innovation, you've been a high performance storage enterprise infrastructure, um, you know engineer and developer and a executive and lot's changed in the past couple of years and certainly the past decade if you're on the V San wave, you saw that storage wave. Now we're in a cloud wave, now we're on premise with hybrid. So hybrid certainly now a big part of the operating model. So the operating system is not just storage anymore, it's, it's a system view. What's your personal opinion on where storage is now? I've heard software defined data center from VMware for years we've been joked about software defined storage, software defined compute, I mean everything software defined but but software is the game scales a game. High performance is a requirement. What's changing storage right now? >>Well and like everything and nothing at the same time. As I said, like, you remember going back to like 30 years ago, I was like, Oh gosh, you know, if the storage is exploding, you know, sooner we're going to have like two gigabytes, you know, company server. Oh my God. You know, and uh, was like, Oh, or you know, where's it going to come in through all like imagining when people started recording music or you know, like they seeing this MP3 thing coming up. So, uh, it's the same game different year, but it's just like, it's, >> it's like this exponential curve. It's like the shape of the curve stays the same. And to be honest, like I like part of me, like never believes that I was like, Oh, come on, how much bigger can it get? And now everybody's like, Oh, we've got IUT line. >>We've got like those cameras streaming things 24, seven, every possible thing you can think of. And of course we've got to store everything. Well, I'm not certain know what to do with it. But um, so from that point of view of the demand keeps growing and you need to have technologists, your handle that appropriate plan. And again, it just not a matter of of kind of throwing the bid somewhere and forgetting about them, it's just keeping them in the predefined water and actually being able to process that. And says in the business of a Cypress perfection and some people say, Oh, you guys just like a up got pain. Yeah. That's the fundamental part of that. But as you pointed out again in our pre game chat is, is uh, the traditional data protection guys be the backup, you know, you can think about as the various, like a raid as a way to protect your data. >>They are all about defending against like physical disruption as a cold. Right? Okay. My DS guy, you know, it was like my data center die like my followup in towels. So, so what do I do? I was the day dependent defendant does not protect it, what I call a logical destruction. I mean back in the, like the classic law school disruption, >> disruption, logic to say destruction, disruption disrupt the same thing. I mean ransomware is pretty much destructive. I mean it's hostage at that point. But I mean you are logical, meaning nonphysical, not like an event like as hurricane or outage or something like that. You removed the wrong file, the right file and you didn't notice that and then you answered several backup cycles and then you realize, Oh I want my file back. But then you like the backup that it had, that file is gone. >>I mean, you know, what are you going to do? Right? Nothing got disrupted and destroyed. Then you files gone. That's a logical disruptions or destructions that happen that's happening. Certainly security points that out. But the secret is, the big thing though is what did, people didn't think about it back. Definitely not like me. Like, like 20 years ago is like the, so what happens if your system got hacked or like people, you know, you know like ransomware, right? It's specifically the product designed to like, you know, knock Vizio storage and I'll lay encrypted, deleted or whatever they want to do there. Um, and again, next thing you know, you like Becking up junk that Villa kid by rest somewhere and then you go to your backups and it's like, Oh my God, where w where does everything, because it's all, it's all that and people have a really strong backup and recovery, but they're recovering malware that they stored. >>Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Basically it's like, that seems like an office problem, but um, like nobody, but a Chronos is actually provides an integrated solutions to build as that, I mean there are different, I mean, people know what the problem is and the, there are companies out there where like, will scanning your backup archives, you'll find them all the way back. Fine. Great. But then anybody could try to like really deal was the restore in a critical situation knows that even it was out. The malware, it concerns, it's, uh, it's stressful. yeah. And it's not always predictable and as old as predictable. Right. Uh, that if the malware isn't wold it's, you know, it becomes an extremely expensive and sometimes, uh, you know, impossible operation that chronic state takes care of that because, you know, weight can actually monetary backups, you know, we can uh, find out where was the last time your, you know, you're clean, it gets into post hoc in a wearable sleeve practical suit gun, that real time scanning for viruses. >>It's a multilevel cyber protection and which is terribly, you know, I think it, I think it's unique in the industry. >> Well I think it's interesting how you guys have brought data protection, uh, concepts and paradigm and practice by the way into cyber was much more holistic view. Right? And I think that's like an operating system kind of thinking and thinking holistically is about systems and systems has consequences. Something goes wrong over here. It's affecting it hopefully to write software for that. And you know, we have a very strong system background photo DNA as they sometimes like to say that. And then in fact they first virtualizer a virtualization solution and containers for that matter were build by the Chronos engineering team. A building 15 years ago, way before, like anybody in the Linux roles knew how to spell container and what they hoped with the name. >>Um, so that's like our storage layer, software defined storage. It's fully blown the HCI product completely around understanding how to build that. That's, it gives us a unique advantage in the security companies. You know, I've gotta ask you a question. I'm, I'm a, I'm fascinating. I'm a student of history and also student of competitive advantage when it comes to technology platforms. And the one thing I always say is, and see it as entrepreneurs, whether they're young or old, is that there's two types of entrepreneurs. There's a systems thinker and a coder, right? And I think with platforms you can't shortcut a platform because there's trajectory benefits of condoms of scale for putting the work in. You can't put a platform out there overnight. You gotta have a, you gotta gotta build it and it takes time. So people try and accelerate platforms. Some, I've done the work, you guys have done it for a long time. What's your view on that whole, well, I'm gonna throw a platform out there. What are some of the things that get exposed when I try to, you know, push a platform too fast? Uh, well the platform presumes that you have an ecosystem, people actually using it and building stuff on top of that. >>Like everybody have you talked about the coders, right? So everybody program or a software developer are, you must have them, at least they dream of two things. They're right. You are like at creating a new programming language. Finally, the one that gets goes for the other guy and guys like, I'm going to write any operating the system. I went through that phase most elaborate in the system long time ago. And it's, you know, it's a process. I mean, whatever you build has to actually serve the purpose. If you would like. There are lots of platforms in all areas of technology and then people's like, Oh, we can a greatest set of API APIs and anybody can plug in into us. It's like, unless you solve a real problem and really simplify life, people, uh, they're not gonna do that happen. I mean, right. They not going to do like you as a platform for the sake of using the platform. >>Our cyber platform is different because we essentially expose, uh, our API to our technology that's out there and people have been using, I mean, I don't know if you saw the keynote, uh, yesterday, there was the demos the way how to write let's go with a plug in for the sake of a better term for purpose of this interview when people can add, uh, you know, their own policies to a cyber protect workflow, which could be specific to what they're doing, you know, you know, they notarized and things like that, that kind of platform makes sense because it's already out there and that's a respond to customer demands. Like, you know, look, uh, will love, what do you guys do? But we have the specialist is specific set of requirements and uh, keep it general enough, incorporated into the product. But there was also a lot of things which would have been specific to a vertical or even to a specific company. We just want to enable them to do this stuff. >>Of course the platforms are there, enabling enables some capabilities that provides value to that right use case. And that could be custom designed domain specific, but I'm sorry, letting that, that could be domain specific. So the platform is enabled capabilities for someone to do something. >>Yes. But again, the key point to the platform is he, it has to kind of solve a real problem, not be there for the sake of elegance or solution or API and things of that nature. >>Final question for you, Alex. So I'm, I'm a CIO or CSO or I'm out there with decision making. I'm like, man, you know what I gotta get up. I gotta rethink my enterprise architecture. I've got to think about, I got IOT coming, I've got industrial IOT and just an regular IOT. I want to have a comprehensive platform. Um, why Chronis what's the pitch and how do you, and what's different than the traditional Sans and storage and other solutions out there? What's the, what's the, what's that pitch to that enterprise decision maker? >>he kinda like to say as you say, I mean you have a tremendous growth in your, in your, in your data flows, the number of data sources, uh, exploding. It's actually going back to a previous question. I think that's what one of the differences that it's not just a volume of data, it's the like the breadth of the data sources are getting better. So you've got to, to manage that gets a little somehow or it's not an Academy. I don't know. I don't know what they're writing and all. I was like, who all the analogy for that so you can like how do you guys get into manage that? Do you have to protect it please? You have to know what your exposure is of what the things there and just throwing out a bunch of, you know, like standard nuts, technologists when product is not going to solve it. >>I mean, yes, you can hire lots of people. You can build your own thing. You would be effectively reinventing the wheel. Lots of wheels in the process of why have we already have that solution for you? I like the platform idea because it makes data more addressable, horizontally scalable. It's not just a siloed right slot product out there. You can actually work and enabled with data. Data is moving around. You've gotta be acted on yes. And software to do that. Yes, exactly. Exactly. So that's, that's another thing cause it's not, uh, it keeps like in a structured day tourism's unstructured data. There's dispatch discussion's been going on for many years. Uh, you know, they've, the reality is you will always have both types into Google. All of us have, they need to process them in both ways. Um, and let's have one more final question that just popped in my head so I can, final final question. >>What's in the infrastructure platform that you're involved in that people should know about that they might not know about that is important to, to investigate? Well, lots of things they don't understand. What's your favorite feature about that? What's your favorite feature? What's the one thing? Gosh, you knows like I have lots of babies. I love them all. I mean hard counting sides. A lot of size. I mean like let's say like, okay, I've been writing storage all my most of my career. I like storage, but that does mean it's more important or less important than other things. You know, unless you have a comprehensive compute layer on top of that, this storage is just then become a storage vendor, a niche for the them. >>So that's not who we are. I'm really fascinated by actually the integration was the like cyber feature in the security because that's on one hand it's not something that I've been doing in my previous carrier for most of the time, but I do have a lot of Ghana understanding how they work flow way. She has an integration points and that's excites me. Something I, that's one of the reasons I integrated platforms is I think the key thing. Thanks for coming on, Alex. It's theCUBE covering Cisco Live Europe, brought to you by Cisco and its ecosystem partners. >> Hello everyone welcome back to theCUBE's live coverage here in Barcelona, Spain for Cisco Live Europe 2019. I'm John Furrier with theCUBE, with Stu Miniman and Dave Alonte also here doing interviews. Our next guests, two guests from the DNA center platform, Cisco, the agent platform team, Prakash Rajamani, director of product management, Cisco and Ronnie Ray, vice president of product management, Cisco, the DNA center platform growing 70% of the use cases, software distractions, API automation. Congratulations. Great success. Thanks for joining us. >> Thanks John. >> Big Fan of the DNA center. You guys have made great progress. Take a step through us. The positioning, how things are rolling, what's some of the feedback? Where's the DNA center platform at right now for Cisco? >> Yup. >> So DNA center was launched about 80 months back and it's probably one of the products in Cisco that has completely started to transform how we do the selling motions. So this is one of the key drivers of Cisco moving into light sensing mode switch, more software like. Now as part of how we do management Typically and traditionally it has been very much a manual driven process there's some reporting but it is a lot of expert light capabilities that you need to have to do management of the infrastructure then it's kind of moving that access to where you can now do machine-lift management. Of course it doesn't solve all the use cases absolutely as you mentioned, more than 70% but there's a whole host of new capabilities that you have to put on top and that's where developers come in because this is a platform that's built for developers to be able to extend it's capabilities to really look at solving problems for our customers. >> I think you know, after listening to all the announcements in temp based networking, ACI anywhere, hyperflex anywhere, data at the center of the value, data centered as you guys say, it's clever but I think it highlights what you guys are doing because you're talking about programmability of the network as two worlds collide actually three worlds collide, Cloud, On Premises and Edge into one network, you have a network, the network is key it's getting bigger, to cross domains is a big theme here, these are hard problems that are being solved by Cisco more complex cause there's more moving parts but it still has to operate as one network. This is essentially highlights the success of the DNA platform, am I kind of getting it right or is that kind of in line with how you guys see it? >> Sure, I mean I think Cisco DNA centered I mean if you look at the evolution we started in the network domain. You're absolutely right we have kind of extended to the brand change, there's nine integrations that are happening with the data center integrations, happening with the cloud, so yeah absolutely looking at the fabric that we launched about 18 months back now extending and stretching to all of those domains and wherever users connect and wherever users go to and that's of Cisco data center but think about that as we kind of do that, yes there is a change that also required not just in the product but also in the IT process because earlier companies had silos of things and now those silos will be forced to work together and CI was one that our network folks that support us because really they want to see cross domain bring power to the organizations but we are the enabler of making that happen. >> No brainer. >> Prakash, I'd love for you to take us inside ya know, we love looking at the product management piece here because you've had a lot of constituencies. You've got the internal product teams that all I'm sure want to get in and mature and expand their used cases. You've got all your partners that are building the platform. You've got the customers asking for feedback You've got a - ya know, a lot of options to choose from which is a good thing but you've obviously got limited resources. So take us inside that, what you've learned over the last year and how you helped prioritize and move this product forward so fast over the last 18 months. >> So one of the main things we did when we started with Data Center is to start thinking and having the vision to get a data center platform. With that in mind, every feature, every capability that we built in the product was built API first before we built a UI around it. Right? That has helped us immensely in the last couple releases we've started delivering features as APIs even before it had a face to it, and I think that has helped us prioritize and make sure that we are able to meet the demands going demands of customer or partner we had a customer who was like "I need this feature now" and we were hands strapped, we had a big back log, we couldn't get things done but the fact that we were able to get the APIs we were able to work with the customer and say "Hey here you can wire these three APIs and you can get what you're looking for" and he was like "Wow, that's so simple and I'm on my own" he was happy, we are happy we are able to manage our back log better. So I think the main strategy for us that's working is going API first on a pragmatic basis. This is us moving completely software driven as Ronnie was highlighting earlier in that relevant process that is helping us get there and that's part of it >> Well, it's customers a lot I mean they get to roll their own if you will without having be customized, it's still standardized with the APIs >> That's right, right? I mean the benefit is as you start getting into the 30% used case where "Hey, what's coming out of the box is not meeting exactly what I do today" we provide very grander APIs to very business driven, simplified interned APIs. The grander APIs allows the customer who wants to say I want A, B and then D and E to move forward compared to intern based API who is using the pride in the simplicity in driving that formula. >> Yeah, Ronnie I'm wondering if we can up level for a second here cause feedback I've gotten over the last year. Ya know, a year ago we heard Cisco is moving heavily towards software. When I talked to a lot of the partners both technology partners and channel partners they said this had a ripple effect inside Cisco it's not so much okay here's the skews and here's the new boards and here's the products but I need to sell a solution and therefore that's platforms that I have to have and therefore everything needs to work together and I have to think API first and like it does significant changes to how Cisco is, the joke I used to have is Cisco is like 100 companies and some people were like "Well, maybe it's 100, maybe it's 200." But today it's now something like platform is a unifying place, is that what is your solution set part of that drive and is that something you're seeing more broadly inside Cisco? >> Certainly, I think you're absolutely right that is does have a unifying effect if I might put it that way. >> Yeah Right? Because there's so many different capabilities that existed in different tools that are coalescing on Cisco data central and which is becoming part of the platform which is now customizable by our entire development community but think how fast that happens in a now within the sales force, within Cisco as a company there is no more cross domain knowledge that'll be required because now it operates different parts it can tune different things, that also means that is supposed to change the business model because going into software and kind of bringing it together and is increasing Cisco is obviously ya know foyering into softer subscriptions, this is a key product that's kind of supporting that, so in many ways it's not just the technology, it's not just APIs but also as a business process that's changing Cisco just like it'll change customers. >> One of the things we're seeing is a lot of design thinking principles this year. Love the new positioning bridged to the future bridged to tomorrow, wherever it goes but it's clean. Connecting the worlds are connecting together through the network get that. What has been some of the challenges and opportunities you guys are seeing around simplicity? Love this API, exposing API allows for customization, I love the broader intent based templates are great but it's hard to make things simple. Can you just elaborate on how you guys are thinking about the product short, medium, long term in terms of continuing to work the back log, I'm sure the feature list is growing like crazy but you got a challenge to make it simpler. >> Absolutely >> How hard is it? What does it entail? Share some insight there. >> So lets take the question in two parts and Prakash can talk to the product simplicity because that is a certainly something that we've got to manage very very carefully but think about also when simple doesn't just mean usable product, it also means a product that can fit into the ecosystem and make the process simpler. So there's a lot of deeper understanding that we are developing through the learning as we work with customers and how do we embed how do we make customers life easier how do we make the process easier and then after goal is how do we make their operational expenses lower? Because we want them to go faster, we want them to go faster at a lower cost and so there's a certainly both learning and investment that's happening there and the product side Prakash. >> On the product side it's about how we used to build to how we are building right now the way we used to do was a new feature comes in it goes to the device layer first the device team builds it puts CLI around it ships it off, sends it to the management team and the management team says "Oh, I got to support this feature" They go, they wrap a UI around it to support the feature, ships. Now we have flipped it turn completely around we start with like what is a customer's work field? What do they need to do and how can we do it in the minimal steps? Once we identify that we push that down to saying "Here is what the user interface looks like here are the three steps that they need to do. That trickles down to saying what we need as an APA on the device layer to develop the feature so we've gone down from going a bottom up way to build a product to a top down, customer driven, used case driven way to build a product. That means we are addressing the customer head on from a simplicity perspective and that's basically what has made us successful in moving the ball forward on this one. >> What has been some of the customer feedback? Can you share some anecdotes around some of the early customers you started rolling this out and what are the ones receiving on the receiving end today saying? >> So when you see from a simplicity feedback perspective I have a large retail store rolling out like maybe 60 APs in a single store over night and they've gone from having that be done over three nights to one person spending 20 minutes putting all the APs up going to the tool and the tool recognizing everything that's come up and deployed. So it's a night and day transformation on how it used to be to how it is right now. So the simplicity >> Sounds like the old way was >> Sounds like you saved a night in a day >> Manually configure, go put a wireless ping to it >> Yep, the old way was yeah you go you plugged the AP, you come back you look at the tool, the AP is there >> Check the channel, stuff is there. >> Map it to the right controller, do all the mappings Now you don't have to do anything just plug the APs and upload preloaded to say these APs are going to the store. The tool takes care of the rest of the stuff that's how simple it is become >> It's almost like old way new way What why are we doing that? And it's good when they have consistent environments with policies there's definitely more expansion. I get that, what about other used cases? Wireless is one hot one, I could see that branch off it's deployments what are some of the popular used cases that you're seeing in the customer base I know you got a broad base but what are the ones what are the patterns that are emerging out of this? >> So let me start another then have Ronnie chime in on the used cases he's seen. Some of the ones that are probably very transformational is that on the policy based used case, we have companies turning around and creating small subdivisions within their organizations. We have a large government in Yasha who is deploying that, they have 20 divisions. Earlier to do that it's extremely complex. They have to go in, they have to understand what division, who is using on which device, which ports mapped to them, just planning that it says it's so huge. For the new policy different approach that we have going, they don't have to know about anything they just need to know Prakash works for division A, Ronnie works for division B assign me to respective divisions, as I come in my policy gets right over to the network. I deploy the network as is, as I speak that is basically the level of simplicity that has changed and that all ties back to doing your network from a policy perspective not a networking from a feature perspective. >> Got it, Ronnie any comments on used case on your end? >> Yeah absolutely so think about we've talked about assurance we launched segmentation that's doing very very well of course even with when all of the public acknowledgement that goes with it but an interesting used case that's come up which is in fact in the keynote this week at Cisco live is about IUT extensions. So Data seto owa is extending to the factory floor, the production equipment and transportation and these are tremendous neo opportunities that are both for companies to kind of look at IT and OT and how this comes together, again going back to the unification simplification theme that do many more things at the same time they try to make it in a rationally much more operable. >> Okay so lot of progress in 18 months give us the road map going forward. We're at the beginning of 2019 what you'll be looking for, can a high level show show us what we should expect to see down the road >> K so from a road map perspective it's in a think about that we've been very focused on getting the customer value. Now the lens is kind of shifting to how do we deal with large enterprise capabilities? So both the hardening of the system itself, how do we look at, for example multiple clusters opening up in diverse locations will give us geo diversity and support there from that perspective and high availability. So these are enterprise class features every large customer requires it and as they move from smaller deployments to full scale deployments that is something that the labs look to need >> Yeah, Prakash when I heard you talking about things I need to think a little bit differently. It's like okay I'm used to going into the deploy and it's going to take me three days wait how do I learn about the fact that I can do it now in a couple of hours? What kind of training or retraining or education is that part of what you're doing in your team or where does that happen? >> It's part of the education, part of the videos we double up and publish to customers so that they don't think about this as I'm going to approach my same 20 steps and think that I'm going do that through data center except that I'm going to do that through a user interface. The first thing that we tell them is like "You're going to do 20" You're going to do two. Right? So the immediate feedback is oh does it address everything I want to do? And so that's the 70% used case more would rather say yes it addresses only thing is we have simplified it, we have compressed it so you don't have to go and go through all these 20 steps but instead get it done in two, so the watts have helped some of the trainings that you have done has helped even talking to from a sales process the customer to know "Hey this is what I'm embracing" so when they come in they don't come in with I'm going to run my network the same way but no no I'm going to run it differently has helped us immensely to make the transition >> Well guys, congratulations on a great successful product, big fan I love that thing, I think it's going to be the future there's a lot more head room there that's cause we're looking at automations the devnet zone we're in is showing massive growth. The appetite for automation the appetite for configuration and scale and managing the complexity is a sweet spot I think that you guys had a nice formally hear looking forward to it. Final question for these guys Ronnie and Prakash are going to both answer it. Say something about DNA center platform that people should pay attention to that they might not hear in the mainstream chatter that's important that they should maybe want to kick the tires or understand it further, an area that they should know about that they might not hear about or they should know about what's the most important feature. Share some, share some insight. >> So again just looking at a little bit into the future of Cisco data center platform, right now we're kind of talking of APIs, there's capability that's coming in the future that will also deal with work flows and the work flows will be built on something which is machine built so there will be a lot of analytics in fact in a data center not only does automation but also extends data analytics so a lot of cool stuff that'll come there and again we'll talk about it more as we get to the next Cisco live. >> Prakash anything? >> I'm going to go a little more ground level people tend to talk about simplicity, talk about how we can do things way differently with data center and people tend to forget that we have not forgotten the network engineer who has been managing the network. We have APIs for you to do the same things you've done all along, create articles create re-lance, do some of the basic networking stuff so that it's not about this just as simple we also have the more detailed breakdown of the API so that you can still continue to know the nuts and the bolts and other things as well as much as the simple stuff so it's the >> It's an empowering all personas in the network from network engineer low level getting down and dirty to large scale automations, whatever the use case is you got the empowerment. >> Yep that's basically what I would like to >> That's awesome, well congratulations Again big fan, DNA center takeover here in the Devnet zone I'm John Furrier with Stu Miniman Cube coverage day two of three days stay with us for more after this short break. Xavier Poisson & Eugene Viskovic | HPE Discover 2017 Madrid

This is theCUBE, the leader in live tech coverage. My name is Dave Vellante. I'm here with my co-host Peter Burris. And many-time Cube guest Xavier Poisson is back. He's the vice president of Cloud28+ and service providers worldwide for Hewlett Packard Enterprise. And he's joined by Eugene Viskovic, who is the chief business officer at Veon, a Cloud28+ partner. Gentlemen, welcome to theCUBE. Welcome back, Xavier, it's good to see you again. >> Thank you, hi. >> Hi. So give us the update on Cloud 28. It started out as sort of this focused European effort. It has exploded now globally. What's the update? >> So I don't remember, I don't know if you remember it. It was last year, the same event. We were in London, I believe. And we were saying, "Okay, we are 300. "How many will be next year?" I took that back. It will be 700. We are 700. >> Dave: Wow, congratulations. >> 700 members. We have been expanding in the different geographies. So also in Europe, Middle East, and Africa, but we expanded in North America, in A-Pac, Latin America, and Caribbean. So now we are present in 60 countries. We are proposing 24,000 cloud services, so the catalog has been expanding dramatically. We are offering capabilities, data center capabilities from all partners in 33 countries. And we can offer from 400 data centers already. So average we have 40,000 hits per month on the platform, acquiring members and so on. And, yes, it has been a delight to launch that everywhere. It's really taking off very, very quickly. >> And the basic value proposition, you are essentially enabling cloud partners to create cloud-like business capabilities. >> Yeah, so what we do is, first of all, we enable the partners to get known on the market on this side, to publish all their services built and consume also. So it's not only IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, but also integration services as well because it's a comprehensive value chain. Then, what we do, we're not a marketplace where people go and leave. In the center, they can speak everyday. So they publish articles, full leadership articles around security, big data, manufacturing, and so on and so on. This year, only this year, they have published 600 articles. So when you're a customer, you go to this platform. You can see the offering, but you can see how the vendor is positioning himself around the market, his value-add, and what they are doing. So digital marketing a lot, also for them. We have been increasing the value on the market of many of our partners with social media because we are very good activity in this area, and also lead-generation engine because now we have so much offerings that we can target specific campaigns for our partners in specific geographies and generate a lot of leads on the market. Last, but not least, the market is evolving. We have a lot of partners, so we create platform-connected offerings. Example we have done is a specific cloud-in-a-box for manufacturing for plants where, in six clicks, you can provision from Cloud28+ all your information system for a plant. So this is also the kind of things that we do. >> Great, okay, Eugene, tell us about Veon. Why are you in business? What's your story? >> Okay, yes. Just talk a few minutes about Veon because it's not a very well-known name around the world, and don't be ashamed if you don't know Veon because it still is the seventh largest mobile operator in the world. It's significant. We are, today, around 42,000 employees, over 12 different countries. I have to say, very unusual countries. Not the type of countries you may choose to go for holidays, but it would be a shame because, honestly, some of them are good like, you know, all Eurasia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Russia. We have also emerging market, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Algeria, and one, only one European market, which is Italy with WIND, WIND Three. Which means it's a very large region. We are dealing with 10, more than 10% of the total population of the globe, 235 million customers, which is significant. And within this organization, there is an enterprise division, which I'm leading, which is around 4,500 people dedicated for enterprise and wholesales. Full revenue around $3 billion, just to give you a scale on who we are. Again, not very well-known, but definitely within our footprint we are the number one in this particular region of the world. >> It's sizable, substantial business. >> Eugene: Exactly, yes. >> So what's driving your business today? Obviously mobile is exploding. >> Yes, it's clear we came from the mobile business. We are number one mobile operator in the majority of these countries. We are what we call some fixed business. And since the last two, three years when I joined the organization, we completely reorganized our business model and moving more into the what we call value added services, ICT services. And one of the components, definitely, was to try to find a partner for our cloud proposition. You need to understand that we're in a very emerging market for this type of subject. We are sitting in a very traditional way, you know, how enterprise operating. They own the infrastructure, they own data center, they own the servers, the management platform, and their own people. And they have not yet shifted to this new model, which is to try to outsource some of the infrastructure. And this is where we came into the game as a global provider in order to have enterprise really to operate the shift. There is also another interesting situation is every time we bid a cloud proposition, usually we try to centerize it and have different country. In our part of the world is not possible. We have to set up a cloud platform in every single of our countries for regulatory constraints, which is not very economical, but definitely it's an opportunity for us to lead this market especially with HP Enterprise. >> Well, it allows you to differentiate, as well, from some of the mega-cloud providers that everybody knows, everybody talks about. So is that a primary way in which you compete? >> Oh, completely. It's clear the big players today are not very well-implemented in this part of the world because of this particular constraint, outside of Italy which is a little bit different game. But it's clear in Russia and Eurasia, yes. Today there is a opportunity. We believe that we want to be the single provider within this region operating across different market segments because we're covering from SO up to multinational accounts, even government. And having a set of value propositions we can offer across every single of our countries. >> Xavier, is it common that, amongst the Cloud28+ partners, there's that theme of local presence, of course, but is there also a differential in terms of what the partners will do, the types of work they'll do, customizations? >> Yeah, typically the case of Veon is very specific because they address very specific markets. Some other players will ask different things. But what is very important in the case of Veon is, first of all, to have a ready-to-deploy solution that you can industrialize in different countries. So this is the reason why we played with one of the technology partners of Cloud28+, with Ormuco, who has a cloud-in-a-box solution that can be deployed and managed remotely if needed. But that was fitting the needs of the market. Then, what we need to do is really to engage locally. So, in this particular case, what we're going to do is to engage with the HP organization in order that when we have the needs for our customers to go for cloud computing kind of workloads, we say, "Okay, we have the solution. "We have a partner, a Cloud28+ partner, "who took the decision to go with us, "and we trust each other. "So you, Mr. Customer, you want to do "backup as a service, disaster recovery "as a service, compute, storage as a service, "or security as a service, Veon is there." And the good point is Veon is there on very qualified hardware of HP synergy with a very good solution, which is one of the solution ready for service providers of HPE and operated by a very serious tech operator with the number six on the market, this is Veon. And we go together. So in this particular case, what was interesting was to have a solution that can be deployed everywhere the same with workloads that may fit with the different expectations of the market, engage the HP people to play with and, then, we market and with Cloud28+ we'll amplify their message. We will be able to drive lead generation campaigns. We'll be able to onboard our resellers because one thing I believe is that in this kind of regions, people don't go, as you say, Eugene, directly to the cloud. They continue to go to their resellers and, "What do I need to do?" And here, you know that we have the largest reseller network in the industry. So we will introduce this solution to our resellers in order that when a reseller of HPE is in front of such a case, it can have the mind to say, "Okay, let's engage with Veon." So this is the way we are going to operate. >> So when I think of many of the Akistan countries, I think of natural resources, challenging topography, challenging terrain. How does the physical reality and the industries that typify that region impact the way you're providing cloud services? >> It's clear, we're talking sometime a very, very large geography in terms of country size. When you take only in Russia. >> Mountainous. >> Eleven time zones you have in one single country. And when we operate, yes we have to spread our capability in order to be able to touch every single country, including in some infrastructure. Especially as a carrier, I like to imagine how much we need to pull fiber, cable, across the country and have these different set up of infrastructure, cloud propositions, to make sure we can serve better in term latency especially when we're talking about financial sections and so on, which brings some level of complexity and, as I said earlier, also some level of efficiency in term investment because we are not in a perfect world, especially when we talk about the regulatory constraints, which, yes, we need to find some middle way. How we can have a better, being still competitive, but as sometimes still delivering the expected quality. But you are right. This particular part of the world require a lot of work in term of physical infrastructure and also in our team. Our people are spread across these different countries, and for that reason yes, it's not an easy situation. >> Does it drive, are you likely to see a higher demand? HPE talks about the intelligent edge. Are you likely to see a higher demand for things like the intelligent edge because of the nature of the natural resource industry's petrochemical, et cetera, mountainous regions and a lot of communities that you serve, is that going to be a driver of new services or is it going to be something else? What do you think? >> Well, I think there would be two aspects. The first one, there is, definitely, a requirement driven, very often, by very large, multinational corporations. You'll be surprised how this multinational corporations are covering this part of the world. You have natural resources. All the western industry is present. And because they are present, they need to bring their standard in term of infrastructure they are using within this particular country. That the reason, yes, the demand is coming from there. At the same time, you have the rest of the market in term of large, local businesses where it's clear. They are moving. If you're looking in our part of the world, we are exactly where we were 10 years ago in Europe, in North America, and in Asia. We are really into emerging in face, in adopting this type of infrastructure. It's clear it's going to go much more quicker because, on top of that, enterprises have big pressure to reduce costs, but at the same time not to sacrifice the quality, what they're looking. Which, again, together we're capable and we can demonstrate they can get better for less. And this is a big work, and that's the reason when Xavier was mentioning about working together in each of the countries, this was one of the critical element in choosing with HP Enterprise because I'm a mobile operator and fixed. I'm not yet organized as an ICT services or cloud. It was very important for me, if we wanted to go very quickly to associate a brand with a leading organization like HP. And I have to say, I have tested several times. Every time we say, "Okay, we are in "partnership with HP Enterprise. "We are partnered with Cloud28+." This ring immediately the bell of the enterprise we are meeting, and it's easier for us to move quicker. But, definitely, I think we have a big, big opportunity. Large market to address, but definitely something interesting to go after. >> And it's early days, it's only been two years now, what do you want from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and what are you guys going to deliver? Let's talk road map a little bit. First, from the partner/customer. What are you driving HPE and Xavier to deliver? >> For me there would be three axes in term of development. The first one in term of value proposition. We want to be able, over the next 12, 18 months to be able to offer to the market a full set of propositions, as you mentioned earlier. But Xavier, in term of public, private, hybrid cloud, and moving to different solution, we're talking about security. And, also, we're moving into more vertical market approach. We're talking about IUT where will also be some direction. This is the first ax. The second one, it's in term of countries. We're not going to launch a platform in every single, as I said earlier. We need to do it country by country. We are starting with Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan will come behind, Algeria. Very quickly, over the next 12 months, we are going to launch one by one these different countries. And the last element for us, which is also very key, is market segment. We are organized, as I said, by market segment. SO, small-medium enterprise, large key account, multinational corporation, and government. And each of these segments have different requirements. And we need to customize our approach. This is where where working with HP and Ormuco, we want to have a very customized, bi-market segment from highly customized to off-the-shelf type proposition. But, for me, these would be the three key axes in term of development working with HP Enterprise. >> And Xavier, how does that align with your roadmap? >> Well, you know, it's fully alligned in the sense that, first of all, we are expanding a lot the value prop of Cloud28+ with ISV software vendors. And the problems of telcos and service providers moving to the cloud, that's correct there is ICT branding, and there we can help. But this is the content because one day or another, they will face what the others have been facing, even in these countries, meaning yes is not enough. So if you have a portfolio of applications, verticals, horizontal applications, that they can use to continue to satisfy the demand of the market, so it will be great for them, and we are investing a lot in this order. The other thing is today I believe that we have now reached a maturity on digital marketing with Cloud28+, which is impressive. We had a big event yesterday. I will not give to you the number of impression we had only in four hours. It has been massive. If we take that, we put this at the disposal of this partner in every single country, we will speed them on the market. So these are the two big elements. The third element is what I said about this platform connected solutions because the more we go, the more we see that our outside-in approach with Cloud28+, thinking customers first, is excellent. We need to continue on that. But, as you were mentioning, the move to the edge, we see more and more solutions for energy, for manufacturing, oil and gas, environment, that we need pure hybrid because you cannot put everything into a cloud. And where we are lucky with Veon is that they have the network. So you can imagine, they have their big cloud in a country that they could deploy also some private cloud very, very quickly in specific area within an oil and gas land or I don't know where in energy, mining, or where you have not that. And you cannot, because of latency issues you cannot go directly to the cloud, but you need to handle at the edge, send back to the cloud for analytics or AI or so on, and this will be at the disposal for them. And I believe the combination of the two for that will be for the benefit of the customer. So this is my opinion. >> I completely agree. I think they approach, in term of the partnership, as I said, I think when we're going to deal with very large organizations is going to be very infrastructure-type discussion driven. But when we're going to cool down, it's purely, definitely Sowasis, content. I want to be able to address, for example, the marketing department, how we can help them to understand the behavior of a consumer by using data, big data, you know, analytics. In term of delivery for an organization, using fleet management. In term of manufacturing, using more IUT. But when you look at these different solutions, what is below is a type of infrastructure. Is to have a cloud infrastructure where we can rely on a strong partnership, bringing this solution, and offering to our customer definitely a very cost-effective but also agile, very, you know, able to move with the market demand in a very vertical way, but definitely this is a way we want to work together. >> Excellent.
