Two great guests Chris Keg, Nazi senior vice president, general manager of the Cloud and Managed Services Group of Presidio, and Sam Fattah Gado, VP of Cloud Solutions Group with Presidio both been here in the Cube talking with us many times before. Great to have you guys on. Thanks for coming on Chris and Sam. >>Great. Thank you, John. Thanks for having us. >>We've had many great cloud conversations with your company and engineers. Architects going back, I think 2016 2017, really as cloud hit, that inflection point. Certainly, scaling Public Cloud and on premise is cloud operations. Certainly that has happened as continue to accelerate. Chris, I would like you to explain your relationship with AWS and you're focused at this. Reinvent what's going on with Presidio? What's new in your world? What's changed for you and the customers, >>right? So thank you, John. So Presidio's focus really is, um you know, around developing the right strategies, helping companies realize the full potential of the AWS cloud. Think of it as ah vory strategic approach that aligns technology with business outcomes really on a global scale. Um, this past year, um, if I look back a year ago, it reinvent when Presidio was there. Um, code a global was also there, which was an acquisition that we did. And we closed out, uh, in August and Sam Farr Gado was the CEO of Code Global. So what's really changed for us is taking our legacy business around infrastructure around security around Matic services on bond, combining that with really combining that with what Coda had around the professional services side of cloud engagement and really building out a company that I believe can deliver a very unique offering to clients because we can cover the full spectrum. So for us Ah, lots happened in a year since we were at reinvent attend day. It's really about, you know, business and technical leaders that we have that are really dedicated thio, you know, focusing on customers, their client experience, and really delivering the best business outcome that weekend >>you know, one of the things that we chat in the past, you just mentioned manage services. This is a huge deal because one of the trends that we've been reporting on here in the Cube and on Silicon angle is, you know, a lot of the transformational goals or accelerated Cove it. We see that projects that are doubling down are mostly cloud related, large scale automation, machine learning. But from an executive standpoint, the mandate is everything is a service. So there's a big executive push. See XO, CSOs, whatever for everything as a service. And when you put that out there and put that ball in play, so to speak, it's not easy, right? So when you go when you say hey, make everything is a service, it's not trivial, and then you get okay, How does that work? That's where the hard part happens. I want to get your take on that. Is that something that you're seeing with your customers? They put that ball in play, let's get the manage services and then you got to put it together. Not that easy. What's your take on that? >>I think you know when you think about clients today and what CEOs are looking for, it's really it is a pay by the drink or a consumption based model, right? But at the end of the day, they don't they want to manage their business. They don't want a Mac manage huge I t groups on DSO software developers within within their own business. They wanna pass that responsibility onto experts like Presidio. So I think it za fact. What's what's simple for them? How does how do they move kind of accountability and how did they get to their business outcomes without owning? And I t business within their existing business? So those are some of the changes that we've certainly seen from a mindset perspective, but but we're fully prepared. Thio offer that city >>that's great for your business is certainly a tail when Sam, I want to get to you. Because when you get to that conversation, okay, put his a service a lot in their unpack. I mean, depending on who you're talking to, you know, certainly accelerating it with Presidio. I see that you're now part of Presidio. Take us through what's going on in your world because when you get to the customer. You gotta work backwards from what they're trying to dio not trying to retrofit of technology into their environment. You've got to kind of work with what they got. But actually get them to the cloud. Can you share what you're doing with customers? >>Yeah. Thanks, John. I appreciate that. And one thing I want to say about joining Presidio is that, uh, you know, we, uh, had worked together for a couple of years and really found that we had a great cultural fit and that we had the same goal. And that's to become a W s number one partner globally, providing these kinds of mission critical solutions for clients. We've been told often times that we are Amazonian in terms of our customer obsession are bias for action. And what you just said there is helping them get the benefits of cloud quickly, no matter where they're coming from. Because, you know, they wanna have the availability security scalability, But they also have to integrate in with their existing systems. So what we're finding with clients is they want to transform the way they do business. They want to transform their industry oftentimes, and that's what they're looking for, you know, when they partner with us and they look for leveraging the AWS platform. >>So let me ask you a question then, because certainly we've seen I've interviewed a ton of Amazon customers and executives, and it's some >>of the >>things that's going on with Cove. It has just been amazing what they've enabled people to move so fast and put riel game changing impact, whether it's societal impact or some other transformative thing. And if you look at Amazon traditionally they started as a transactional thing. You get some easy to you by by the drink. Everything's going on. But every reinvent is more announcement. Andy Jassy said one hour keynote turns into a two hour keynote three, our keynote. And now you're looking at more transform inal transformational solutions. You still got some transactions in there. But when you gotta put the holistic, cohesive plan together, that has to be transformative. How do you guys talk to customers when you say it's not just transactional? Transformative? >>Yeah, well, we look, you know, we're doing it, you know, internally ourselves as well. You know, with Presidio now we've gone from transactions. Transactions are important but we really want to transform the way our customers are able to do business. And with co vid, it's been even more important to be ableto get things done without having to be physically present in one location. And so whether it's telehealth or remote learning, remote sales activities making sure that systems are integrated with commerce engines are again are very secure. The cloud and A W S is really bringing a big difference to the marketplace, and we're very immersed in that we have clients. Uh, I'll give you an example. Wheel pros. One of the leading tire after market tire and wheel manufacturers and designers we've talked with with their CEO, Randy White. He said. What we're doing with Presidio and on AWS platform is building the wheel. Pros of the future. What does that look like? He says he wants his systems to be just like his products for his customers. They've got to be high performing. They gotta be high quality, and they've got to deliver a great customer experience. Uh, well, you know, we want to be able to leverage a lot of the services that AWS has to be able to deliver those kinds of things quickly and with high quality. So it's really exciting to be able to see the impact we're having wheel pros, business and other clients like that. >>So when you talk about your solution to take him in to explain what you guys offer a client because you have a Presidio cloud solution, you get a lot of services can just take a minute to explain what people are buying and what they're getting from Presidio. Because, um, that sounds like a great customer success story. What are they? >>What >>are they getting? >>Okay, so what? They're getting really again following kind of the Amazonian way, working backwards, right? So let's start with an idea. Let's let's let's look at something we really want to do that's going to change dramatically. Change and improve the way they delight their customers. So start with that idea. Will help them design it. Welcome. Build it. Welcome. Deploy it. We could help support it. Fully managed service support eso from from the idea through to production and then ongoing support enhancements. They can count on Presidio to deliver all of those capabilities on Dakota Couldn't do all of that on our own. We were really grated application development, data and analytics. Uh, dev Ops and Automation. But with Presidio, we bring everything to the table Onda geun fully supported. Help them from, you know, even managing. You know, they're they're resell, being able to manage the environment, making sure that they're getting the most value out of these critical investments. >>Chris, I want to get your thoughts on this. Um, Sam mentioned you wanna be the number one solution provider for on AWS? Um, great mission, by the way, I wanna unpack that now. Last year, I reported at reinvent one of the feedback items was Amazon's gonna think more about solutions. Certainly Microsoft does that. We've seen that, um, Amazon doesn't really flout a plant. Those solutions very much. I mean, even though they have them there there you guys are a nice fit there. So if you're gonna be the number one solution provider, what do you guys need to do to do that? What a customers expect from you guys? Can you take a minute? Explain your plan? >>Sure. Yeah, absolutely, John. So I think you know, when you think about clients that air transforming their business right. They need to be competitive in their own market. So when they think about business outcomes in what Presidio does, we look at it in really a full life bull approach. If you think about the applications that Sam spoke about creating things that Air Cloud native, perhaps it's a mobile ordering app that's going to make them more competitive, especially in this covert environment. Um, think about their their just their normal consumption of services on the AWS platform. How do we optimize it for them? How do we ensure that they have the right services in a very agile, secure environment? So managing and owning it the full life cycle is really kind of what we deliver from a solution set. But every client is a little bit different, depending on really what their their needs are and what what their business outcomes are. So we can take it everywhere, anywhere from, uh, full development toe Full deployment Onda managing it in a very secure way, um, to adding in their consumption side of it, adding in their licensing component where perhaps they're buying under marketplace or a or a c p p o offering. So what's really unique about Presidio is that we offer that full solution to clients from end to end, and we can manage the entire process, deliver performance, cost savings and very predictable models >>from I love the, you know, a big fan of the entire and people who watch the Cubano. All I do is talk about and to end is really a critical way to look at things holistically if you're looking at something cohesive as a solution with transactional transformative capabilities. But I want to get your thoughts on some of the market demand challenges. And if you guys could react to it, um, Sam and Chris, there's two spectrums we're seeing with this pandemic clients, customers who were, like, have a tailwind. Oh, my God. This is accelerating my value proposition. I need more help. I gotta get to the cloud I gotta transformed quickly. And then the other end of the spectrum is the worst screwed. So we're gonna reset and retool while we're kind of in this bunker down mode and they want to come out of the pandemic with a growth plan. So kind of to spectrums, right? Did you guys see that as well what's the range of psychology or buyer behavior for your customers? Because there seems to be like the airline. They're not really getting a lot of business, but they're redoing their systems. They're being classified. Or, you know, this is an app for zoom or school educational. It's needed. It's in more demand. So you kind of everything in between those Do you guys see that? And if so, or if not >>way, certainly see a component with our client base around saving costs, right? What are they going to do in this environment? Toe save costs. But at the same time, we are seeing a lot of creativity around. What does their future model look like? And how did and what do they need to build? And that's what they're spending money on. Eso. We've seen it across kind of all verticals within the business, but certainly it it's a it's a dual approach. I think customers that go about doing that properly really prepare themselves for when we all do come out of this. That the business was will be set to capitalize on the change in market. That's what I've seen. I'm sure Sam has some additional comments >>Your thoughts? >>Yeah, absolutely. I would say necessity is the mother of invention. Invention. Right. So you know, we're seeing customers that we're thinking about cloud or, you know, considering maybe a new application cloud native application. But, you know, maybe you felt like they had time to do it where, you know, with covert ITT's bold are gonna be the ones that survive and thrive on DSO. Just like we saw when people came out of the 2000 and eight financial crisis. Those that invested in their systems, invested in their people, people skills is another big area right way at Presidio have I think we're upto like 600 AWS certifications across the board from sales through all different technologies. Because, you know, we wanna retain our people. We want to help them develop their skills and make sure that we're bringing the best talent to our clients. Eso yet z you know, it's a it's a difficult time, but it's a time for opportunity. >>Necessity could be business opportunity to capture opportunity, recognition, capture or survival. I mean, it is the mother of invention, you know it is it is a forcing function, guys. Thanks for the >>one of our clients. If I if I could, just mentioned Dunkin Brands, you know, they they couldn't have traffic in their stores. So, you know, mobile ordering became even more important. Um, you know, driving with Dr Drive up pick up and we helped them move from a multi tenant SAS application that was, you know, wasn't performing wasn't a reliable enough to an AWS Cloud native application, and they tripled the traffic while also improving performance and reliability. That's the kind of power that you can have with AWS and Presidio. >>That's a great eggs. And that's a great example looking relate to that. First of all, Dunkin Donuts makes great coffee and from the East Coast originally. So I love Dunkin Donuts. DND um, but great, great brand that mobile app. Good call, because people want to get in the curbside pickup or delivered. I mean, this is the new the new normal guys. Thanks so much for the insight. Final word. If you both can weigh in, um, share with the audience. The focus for this reinvent if you could share the Presidio message for reinvent virtual 2020. What do you think, >>Sam Why don't you go first? >>Well, from my perspective, it's all about, you know, taking it to another level. That's what we feel like we're doing was part of the video now again becoming the number one AWS partner. But it's also helping customers take their most important applications, uh, to the cloud so that they can improve the way they deliver for their customers. That's really what it's all about for me. >>Yeah, I would. I would have to concur with Sam. I mean, you know, our goal. Really like Sam said a few times to be be the number one aws partner. But with that comes, you know, a huge undertaking in a huge responsibility for us, you know, with our teams and and with our customers. At the end of the day, we want all of our clients to think of us first. Um, you know, when we're delivering these solutions and how impactful Presidio has been to their business for their growth onder for their future success. So for us, the customer obsession side of it all is really we want to continue that, and that's what we're gonna get out of this conference is how do we continue that? >>Well, congratulations. Uh, they get the technical chops, um, and having a service offering that accelerates mawr cloud goodness for customers on my, um, Amazon's got a great ecosystem clouds growing like crazy. This is our live keynote analysis. Dave. Great to see you, Andy Jassy again. You know their eight year covering reinvent their ninth year. We're virtual. We're not in person. We're doing it. >>Great to see you, John. Even though we're 3000 miles apart, we both have the covert here. Do going Happy birthday, my friend. >>Thank you. Congratulations. Five years ago I was 50 and they had the cake on stage and on the floor. There's no floor, this year's virtual and I think one of the things that came out of Andy Jessie's keynote, obviously, you know, I met with him earlier. Telegraph some of these these moves was one thing that surprised me. He came right out of the gate. He acknowledged that social change, the cultural shift. Um, that was interesting but he went in and did his normal end to end. Slew of announcements, big themes around pivoting. And he brought kind of this business school kind of leadership vibe to the table early talking about what people are experiencing companies like ourselves and others around the change and cultural change around companies and leadership. It takes for the cloud. And this was a big theme of reinvent, literally like, Hey, don't hold on to the old And I kept thinking to myself, David, you and I both are Historians of the tech industry remind me of when I was young, breaking into the business, the mainframe guys and gals, they were hugging onto those mainframes as long as they could, and I looked at it like That's not gonna be around much longer. And they kept No, it's gonna be around. This is this is the state of the art, and then the extinction. Instantly this feels like cloud moment, where it's like it's the wake up call. Hey, everyone doing it the old way. You're done. This is it. But you know, this is a big theme. >>Yes. So, I mean, how do you curate 2.5 3 hours of Andy Jassy. So I tried to break it down at the three things in addition to what you just mentioned about him acknowledging the social unrest and and the inequalities, particularly with black people. Uh, but so I had market leadership. And there's some nuance there that if we have time, I'd love to talk about, uh, the feature innovation. I mean, that was the bulk of his presentation, and I was very pleased. I wrote a piece this weekend. As you know, talk about Cloud 2030 and my main focus was the last 10 years about I t transformation the next 10 years. They're gonna be about organizational and business and industry transformation. I saw a lot of that in jazz ces keynote. So you know, where do you wanna go? We've only got a few minutes here, John, >>but let's break. Let's break down the high level theme before we get into the announcement. The thematic part was, it's about reinventing 2020. The digital transformation is being forced upon us. Either you're in the cloud or you're not in the cloud. Either way, you got to get to the cloud for to survive in this post covert error. Um, you heard a lot about redefining compute new chips, custom chips. They announced the deal with Intel, but then he's like we're better and faster on our custom side. That was kind of a key thing, this high idea of computing, I think that comes into play with edge and hybrid. The other thing that was notable was Jessie's almost announcement of redefining hybrid. There's no product announcement, but he was essentially announcing. Hybrid is changed, and he was leaning forward with his definition of redefining what hybrid cloud is. And I think that to me was the biggest, um, signal. And then finally, what got my attention was the absolute overt call out of Microsoft and Oracle, and, you know, suddenly, behind the scenes on the database shift we've been saying for multiple times. Multiple databases in the cloud he laid that out, said there will be no one thing to rule anything. No databases. And he called out Microsoft would look at Microsoft. Some people like cloud wars. Bob Evans, our good friend, claims that Microsoft been number one in the cloud for like like year, and it's just not true right. That's just not number one. He used his revenue a za benchmark. And if you look at Microsoft's revenue, bulk of it is from propped up from Windows Server and Sequel Server. They have Get up in there that's new. And then a bunch of professional services and some eyes and passed. If you look at true cloud revenue, there's not much there, Dave. They're definitely not number one. I think Jassy kind of throws a dagger in there with saying, Hey, if you're paying for licenses mawr on Amazon versus Azure that's old school shenanigans or sales tactics. And he called that out. That, to me, was pretty aggressive. And then So I finally just cove in management stuff. Democratizing machine learning. >>Let me pick up on a couple things. There actually were a number of hybrid announcements. Um, E C s anywhere E k s anywhere. So kubernetes anywhere containers anywhere smaller outposts, new local zones, announced 12 new cities, including Boston, and then Jesse rattle them off and made a sort of a joke to himself that you made that I remembered all 12 because the guy uses no notes. He's just amazing. He's up there for three hours, no notes and then new wavelength zones for for the five g edge. So actually a lot of hybrid announcements, basically, to your point redefining hybrid. Basically, bringing the cloud to the edge of which he kind of redefined the data center is just sort of another edge location. >>Well, I mean, my point was Is that my point is that he Actually, Reid said it needs to be redefined. Any kind of paused there and then went into the announcements. And, you know, I think you know, it's funny how you called out Microsoft. I was just saying which I think was really pivotal. We're gonna dig into that Babel Babel Fish Open source thing, which could be complete competitive strategy, move against Microsoft. But in a way, Dave Jassy is pulling and Amazon's pulling the same move Microsoft did decades ago. Remember, embrace and extend right Bill Gates's philosophy. This is kind of what they're doing. They have embraced hybrid. They have embraced the data center. They're extending it out. You're seeing outpost, You see, five g, You're seeing these I o t edge points. They're putting Amazon everywhere. That was my take away. They call it Amazon anywhere. I think it's everywhere. They want cloud operations everywhere. That's the theme that I see kind of bubbling out there saying, Hey, we're just gonna keep keep doing this. >>Well, what I like about it is and I've said this for a long time now that the edge is gonna be one by developers. And so they essentially taking AWS and the data center is an AP, and they're bringing that data center is an A P I virtually everywhere. As you're saying, I wanna go back to something you said about leadership and Microsoft and the numbers because I've done a lot of homework on this Aziz, you know, And so Jassy made the point. He makes this point a lot that it's not about the the actual growth rate. Yeah, the other guys, they're growing faster. But there were growing from a much larger base and I want to share with you a nuance because he said he talked about how AWS grew incrementally 10 billion and only took him 12 months. I have quarterly forecast and I've published these on Wiki Bond, a silicon angle. And if you look at the quarterly numbers and now this is an estimate, John. But for Q four, I've got Amazon growing at 25%. That's a year on year as you're growing to 46% and Google growing at 50% 58%. So Google and and Azure much, much higher growth rates that than than Amazon. But what happens when you look at the absolute numbers? From Q three to Q four, Amazon goes from 11.6 billion to 12.4 billion. Microsoft actually stays flat at around 6.76 point eight billion. Google actually drops sequentially. Now I'm talking about sequentially, even though they have 58% growth. So the point of the Jazz is making is right on. He is the only company growing at half the growth rate year on year, but it's sequential. Revenues are the only of the Big Three that are growing, so that's the law of large numbers. You grow more slowly, but you throw off more revenue. Who would you rather be? >>I think I mean, it's clearly that Microsoft's not number one. Amazon's number one cloud certainly infrastructure as a service and pass major themes in the now so we won't go through. We're digging into the analyst Sessions would come at two o'clock in three o'clock later, but they're innovating on those two. They want they one that I would call this member. Jasio says, Oh, we're in the early innings Inning one is I as and pass. Amazon wins it all. They ran the table, No doubt. Now inning to in the game is global. I t. That was a really big part of the announcement. People might have missed that. If you if you're blown away by all the technical and complexity of GP three volumes for EBS and Aurora Surveillance V two or sage maker Feature store and Data Wrangler Elastic. All that all that complex stuff the one take away is they're going to continue to innovate. And I, as in past and the new mountain that they're gonna Klima's global I t spin. That's on premises. Cloud is eating the world and a W s is hungry for on premises and the edge. You're going to see massive surge for those territories. That's where the big spend is gonna be. And that's why you're seeing a big focus on containers and kubernetes and this kind of connective tissue between the data machine layer, modern app layer and full custom. I as on the on the bottom stack. So they're kind of just marching along to the cadence of, uh, Andy Jassy view here, Dave, that, you know, they're gonna listen to customers and keep sucking it in Obama's well and pushing it out to the edge. And and we've set it on the Cube many years. The data center is just a big edge. And that's what Jassy is basically saying here in the keynote. >>Well, and when when Andy Jassy gets pushed on Well, yes, you listen to customers. What about your partners? You know, he'll give examples of partners that are doing very well. And of course we have many. But as we've often said in the Cube, John, if you're a partner in the ecosystem, you gotta move fast. There were three interesting feature announcements that I thought were very closely related to other things that we've seen before. The high performance elastic block storage. I forget the exact name of it, but SAN in a cloud the first ever SAN in the cloud it reminds me of something that pure storage did last year and accelerate so very, very kind of similar. And then the aws glue elastic views. It was sort of like snowflake's data cloud. Now, of course, AWS has many, many more databases that they're connecting, You know, it, uh, stuff like as one. But the way AWS does it is they're copying and moving data and doing change data management. So what snowflake has is what I would consider a true global mesh. And then the third one was quicksight que That reminded me of what thought spots doing with search and analytics and AI. So again, if you're an ecosystem partner, you gotta move fast and you've got to keep innovating. Amazon's gonna do what it has to for customers. >>I think Amazon's gonna have their playbooks when it's all said and done, you know, Do they eat the competition up? I think what they do is they have to have the match on the Amazon side. They're gonna have ah, game and play and let the partners innovate. They clearly need that ecosystem message. That's a key thing. Um, love the message from them. I think it's a positive story, but as you know it's Amazons. This is their Kool Aid injection moment, David. Educational or a k A. Their view of the world. My question for you is what's your take on what wasn't said If you were, you know, as were in the virtual audience, what should have been talk about? What's the reality? What's different? What didn't they hit home? What could they have done? What, your critical analysis? >>Well, I mean, I'm not sure it should have been said, but certainly what wasn't said is the recognition that multi cloud is an opportunity. And I think Amazon's philosophy or belief at the current time is that people aren't spreading workloads, same workload across multiple clouds and splitting them up. What they're doing is they're hedging bets. Maybe they're going 70 30 90 10, 60 40. But so multi cloud, from Amazon standpoint is clearly not the opportunity that everybody who doesn't have a cloud or also Google, whose no distant third in cloud says is a huge opportunity. So it doesn't appear that it's there yet, so that was I wouldn't call it a miss, but it's something that, to me, was a take away that Amazon does not currently see that there's something that customers are clamoring for. >>There's so many threads in here Were unpacked mean Andy does leave a lot of, you know, signature stories that lines in there. Tons of storylines. You know, I thought one thing that that mass Amazon's gonna talk about this is not something that promotes product, but trend allies. I think one thing that I would have loved to Seymour conversation around is what I call the snowflake factor. It snowflake built their business on Amazon. I think you're gonna see a tsunami of kind of new cloud service providers. Come on the scene building on top of AWS in a major way of like, that kind of value means snowflake went public, uh, to the level of no one's ever seen ever in the history of N Y s e. They're on Amazon. So I call that the the next tier cloud scale value. That was one thing I'd like to see. I didn't hear much about the global i t number penetration love to hear more about that and the thing that I would like to have heard more. But Jassy kind of touched a little bit on it was that, he said at one point, and when he talked about the verticals that this horizontal disruption now you and I both know we've been seeing on the queue for years. It's horizontally scalable, vertically specialized with the data, and that's kind of what Amazon's been doing for the past couple of years. And it's on full display here, horizontal integration value with the data and then use machine learning with the modern applications, you get the best of both worlds. He actually called that out on this keynote. So to me, that is a message to all entrepreneurs, all innovators out there that if you wanna change the position in the industry of your company, do those things. There's an opportunity right now to integrate with the cloud to disrupt horizontally, but then on the vertical. So that will be very interesting to see how that plays out. >>And eventually you mentioned Snowflake and I was talking about multi cloud snowflake talks about multi cloud a lot, but I don't even think what they're doing is multi cloud. I think what they're doing is building a data cloud across clouds and their abstracting that infrastructure and so to me, That's not multi Cloud is in. Hey, I run on Google or I run on the AWS or I run on Azure ITT's. I'm abstracting that making that complexity disappeared, I'm creating an entirely new cloud at scale. Very special guest. Judy Estrin. She's the CEO of J Labs and author of the book Closing the Innovation Gap. She's also well known for being an Internet entrepreneur. Pioneer worked on the initial TCP IP protocol with Vin Cerf from When the A Stanford Great History Computer Science. You have computer systems in your blood, and now you're mentoring a lot of companies. Author you a lot of work, and you're lending your voice to some cutting edge issues here in Silicon Valley and around the world. Thanks for joining me today for the conversation. >> Thank you. It's fun to be here, >> So I love the fact that you're here. You're a celebrity in the commute computer industry circles. You were there at the beginning, when the computer systems or the Internet were being connected as they built out of stone of the whole system's revolution in the eighties, and the rest is history. Now we have cloud computing, and now we're seeing a whole nother level step function of scale. And so you've kind of seen it all. You've seen all all the waves. Actually, something like make is they have seen some of the ways, but you've seen all of them. The most compelling thing I think that's happening now is the convergence of social science and computer science. Kind of our motto. Silicon Angle. You recently wrote to Post on Medium that that has been kind of trending and going viral. I want to get your perspective on that. And they're They're interesting because they they bring a little bit of computer science called the authoritative Authority Terrian Technology Reclaiming Control far too attention, part one. We go into great detail to lay out some big picture computer industry discussions. What's it all about? What's what's the What's the idea behind these stories? >> So let me back up a little bit in that, a Sze Yu said. And we can go into this if you want. I was very involved in a lot of thie, ah, innovation that happened in the Village Valley in terms of microprocessors, the Internet, networking, everything that laid the foundation for a lot of the things we see today incredible opportunities for my career for problems we solved over the last ten years. Ten, twelve years. Um, I began to see a shift and a shift in the culture and a shift in the way technology was impacting us. And it's not all good or bad. It's that it felt like we were out of balance and that we were becoming shorter and shorter, term focused and actually my book in two thousand eight closing the innovation gap. The main message there is let's not forget about the seeds you plant that all of this comes from because we're reaping the benefit of those seeds. We're not planning new seats and that we were becoming in the Valley in the nation the way we thought about things more and more short term focused and technology was causing some of that and benefitting and not been and at a disadvantage because of that. So that started with my book in two thousand eight and then in twenty fourteen, I think it was I did a Ted talk a Ted X talk called Balancing our Digital Diets, and I was even Mohr concerned that we were out of whack in terms of the consequences of innovation, and I drew an analogy to our food's systems, where so much innovation and creating cheap calories and energy and things like high fructose corn syrup that it took years to realize that, Oh, there's some negative consequences of that innovation. And so that was kind of a warning that, um, we weren't thinking enough about the consequences of at that point. Social media. That was before fake news, and I talked about tweets and how truth that lies went faster than truth, not knowing how bad that situation was going to be and then leading up to the election and after the election. We all know and have all learned now about the impacts of these technologies on our democracy, and I believe on our society and humanity. And I don't think it's just about our election system. I think it's about our psyches and how the technology's air impacting the way we think our fear and anxiety level of our kids and us is adults. So I been talking to people about it and advising, and I finally decided as, uh, I was collaborating with people that I felt that a lot of the awareness was in pockets that we talked about data privacy or we talked about addiction. But these air things were all interrelated, and so I wanted to one ad. My voices is technologists because I think a lot of the people who are writing the building, the awareness and talking about it if you are in government or a journalist's or even a social scientist people, it's really easy to say, Yeah, you say that, but you don't understand. It's more complicated than that. You don't understand the technology. So one, I do understand that technology. So I felt adding my voice as a technologist. But I'm also, uh, just increasingly concerned about what we do about it and that we take a more holistic view. So that's what, what what the pieces are about. And the reason I broke it into two pieces is because they're too long for most people, even the way they are. But the first is to build awareness of the problems which we can dig into it a high level if you want. And then the second is to throw out ideas as we move towards discussing solutions. So let me take a breath because you were goingto jump in, and then I can. >> No, it's just because you're connecting the foundational of technology foundation technology, identifying impact, looking at pockets of awareness and then looking at how it's all kind of coming together when you talk like that The first time I saw O subsystem interrupt us connection so someone could get like a operating system. And I think the society that you're pointing out in the article, the first one intention was there only to relate. And I think that's the key part. I think that's interesting because we run into people all the time when we do our cue broadcasts that have awareness here and don't know what's going on this. So this context that's highly cohesive. But there's no connection, right? So the decoupled right but highly cohesive, That's kind of systems. Architecture concept. So how do we create a robust technology's society system where technology and I think that's a threat that we're seeing this? What I cleaned out of the articles was your kind of raising the flag a little bit to the notion of big picture right system, kind of a foundational, but let's look at consequences and inter relationships, and how can we kind of orchestrate and figure out solutions? So what was the reaction to expand on that concept? Because this is where I was. It was provocative to me, >> right? So I think there are two thought trains that I just went down. One is that one of the problems we have that has been created by technology and technology is suffering from again. It's causing both cause and effect is not enough seats, system thinking and so one issue, which is not just this is not just about social media and not just about a I, but over the last twenty years we've increasingly trained, I think, are, Ah, engineers and computer scientists in Mohr transactional thinking. And as we move quicker and quicker to solve problems, we are not training our leaders or training our technologist to think in terms of systems. And so what I mean by systems is two things that you can break, that any problems have pieces. But those pieces air inter connected. We are interconnected, and that you, if you don't keep those things in mind, then you will not design things in a way, I believe that have the longevity and make the right type decisions. The second is the law of consequences when you have a system, if you do something here, it's going to impact something here. And so that whole notion of taking was thinking through consequences. I'm afraid that we're training people as we are focusing on being more and more agile, moving more and more quickly that it's in technology and in society that we're losing some of that system, thinking >> that they kind of think that's the trade off is always around. Whenever he had systems conversations in the past, but my old systems had on trade offs, we have overhead, so we have more memory. How do we handle things? So this is kind of That's just what happens. You tell about consequence, but >> we don't have all those we I'm older than you. But we started at a time when that we were limited. We were limited by memory. We were limited by processing. We were limited by band with and a different times. As thie industry emerged, the constraints were in different areas. Today, you don't have any of those constraints. And so, if you don't have any of those constraints. You don't get trained in thinking about trade offs and thinking about consequences. So when when we come into just what drove me to write, this one set of things are foundational issues and what I mean by foundational it's it's our relationship to technology. And the fact of the matter is, as a society, um, we put technology on a pedestal, and we have, uh, this is not to be taken out of Cut is not to be taken the extreme of talking about people, but overall, our relationship with technology is a bullying, controlling relationship. That's why I called it authoritarianism. >> Upgrade your iPhone to the new version. >> Well, whether it's as a user that you're giving up your your your authority to all these notifications and to your addiction, whether it is the fact that it is the control with the data, whether it is predictive ai ai algorithms that are reading your unconscious behaviors and telling you what you think, because if it's suggesting what you by putting things in front of you. So there are all of these behaviors that our relationship with technology is not a balanced relationship and you could one. You have a culture where the companies that are that have that power are driving towards. It's a culture of moving fast growth only don't think about the consequences. It's not just the unintended consequences, but it's the consequences of intended use. So the business models and at which we don't need to go into, because I think a lot of other people talk about that all end up with a situation which is unhealthy for us as people and humanity and for us as a society. So you take that part and it is. There's a parallel here, and we should learn from what happened with industrial Ah, the industrial revolution. We want progress. But if we don't pay attention to the harm, the harmful byproducts and trade offs of progress, it's why we have issues with climate. It's why we have plastic in our oceans. It's because you, you judge everything by progresses just growth and industrialization without thinking about well being or the consequences. Well, I believe we now face a similar challenge of digitization, so it's not industrialization. But it's digitalization that has byproducts in a whole number of areas. And so what the the article does is get into those specifics, whether it's data or anxiety, how we think our cognitive abilities, our ability to solve problems, All of those things are byproducts of progress. And so we should debate um, where we what we're willing to give up one last thing. And then I'll have to come in, which is one of the problems with both of these is is humans value convenience. We get addicted to convenience, and if somebody gives us something that is going to make things more convenient, it sure is held to go backward. And that's one of the reasons the combination of measuring our goodness as a country or a CZ. Globalization by economic growth and measuring our personal wellness by convenience, if something is more convenient, were happier. Take those two together, and it makes a dangerous cop combination because then our need for community convenience gets manipulated for continued economic growth. And it doesn't necessarily end up in, Ah, progress from, ah, well being perspective. >> It's interesting point about the digitization, because the digital industrial revolution, when the digital revolution is happening, has consequences. We're seeing them and you point them out in your post Facebook and fake news. There's also the global landscape is the political overlay. There's societal impact. There's not enough scholars that I've been trained in the art of understanding into relationships of technology, and Peg used to be a nerd thing. And now my kids are growing up. Digital natives. Technology is mainstreams, and there it is. Politics. You know, the first hack collection, Some of the control, The first president actually trolled his way. That president, I said that I'm the kid. That was my position. He actually was a successful troll and got everyone he trolled the media and you got the attention. These air new dynamics, This is reality. So is you look forward and bring these ideas, and I want to get your thoughts on ideas on how to bring people together. You've been on a CTO Cisco Systems. I know you've been sleeping on a board. This is a cross pollination opportunity. Bring people together to think about this. How do you do You look at that? How do you view how to take the next steps as a as an industry, as a society and as a global nations? It eventually, because cyber security privacy is becoming polarized. Also on a geography bases in China they have. GPR is hard core there. In Europe, he got Asia. With Chinese. You got America being American. It's kind of complicated as a system architecture thinking. How do you look at this? What is the playing field where the guard rails? What's your thoughts on this? Because it's a hard one, >> right? So it is a hard one and it isn't. It isn't easy to pave out a path that says it's solvable. Um, nor does Climate right now. But you have to believe we're going to figure it out because we have to figure it out. So I think there are a lot of pieces that we need to start with, and then we need to adjust along the way. And, um, one piece is and let me back up. I am not. I don't believe we can leave this up to the industry to solve the incentives and the value systems and the understanding of the issues. The industry is coming from an industry perspective, and you can't also. You also can't leave it just two technologists because technologists have a technology person perspective. I don't believe that you just can have government solve it for a variety of reasons. One is, if it takes a spectrum of things to legislation, tends to be retroactive, not forward looking. And you need to be really careful not to come up with regulation that actually reinforces the status quo as opposed to making something better. But I think we need to. We do need to figure out how to govern in a way that includes all of these things. So once >> it's running, it's clear that watching the Facebook hearing and watching soon dark sky in front of the house. Our current elected officials actually don't even know how the Internet works, so that's one challenge. So you have a shift in its every beat >> and it and it's actually, if you think about the way legislation often gets made one of the problems with our democracy right now, I'm not going to put it in quotes. But I want to put it >> out. >> Is that the influence of money on our democracy means that so often the input toe legislation comes from industry. So whether it's again big tech, big pharma, big Oil, big. That's the way this cycle works in places where we have had successful legislation that industry input, what you need industry input. You just don't want industry to be the on ly input that is balanced with other input. And so we need infrastructure in the world. In the country that has policy ideas, technology. This needs to come from civil society, from the academy from non profits. So you need the same way we have environmental sciences. We need to fund from government, not just industry funded that science. That's number one. And then we need ways to have conversations about influencing companies to do the right thing. Some of it is going to be through legislation some of it is going to be for through pressure. This, in some ways is like tobacco in some ways, like it's like food. In some ways, it's like climate on DH. It's so and an underlying any of this to happen. We need people to understand and to speak up because awareness amongst whether it's individuals, parents, teachers, we need to give people the information to protect themselves and to push back on companies and to rally pushback on government. Because if if there's not an awareness of people are walking around saying, Don't take away my service, don't make this less convenient don't tax my soda. Don't tell me my text messages. That's right, so and I'm not saying taxes of the way. But if there isn't what what I'm focused on is, how do we build awareness? How do we get information out? How do we get companies like yours and others that this becomes part of >> our >> messaging of understanding so we can be talking about I >> think it's, you know back, Teo, The glory days of the TCP epi Internet revolution. He sent a package from here to there. It's a step. Take a first step. I personally listening to you talk feel and I said, It's on The Cuban people know that. You know, my my rap know that I've been pounding this. There's a counter culture in there somewhere. Counter culture's is where action happens, and I think you know, tax regulation and, you know, the current generations inherited. It is what it is we have. You're laying out essentially the current situation. John Markoff wrote a great book, What the door Mail said, talking about how the sixties counterculture influence the computer industry from breaking in for getting computer time for time sharing, too hippy revolution question I have for you put you on the spot. Is Is there a counterculture in your mind? Coming a digital hippie quotes is because I feel it. I feel that that let the air out of the balloon before it pops. Something has to happen and I think has to be a counterculture. I yet yet can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's a digital kind of a revolution, something compelling that says Whoa time out. >> All right? I think we need a couple of counter culture's in that in layers of it, because, um, I think there is going to be or is starting to be a counterculture amongst technologist and the technology industry and entrepreneurs who are some it's still small who are saying, You know what? This chasing unicorns and fastest growth and scale, you know, move faxed and break things. But, um, we want to move fast, but we want to think about whether we're breaking what we're breaking is really dangerous, you know, move fast and break things is fine, but if it's oops, we broke democracy. That isn't something that, uh that is I'm sorry you have to think about and adapt more quickly. So I think there is Are people who are talking about let's talk openly about the harm. Let's not just be tech optimists. Let's understand that it's small, but it's beginning and you're seeing it in a I for instance, the people who are saying Look, were technologists, we want to be responsible. This is a powerful weapon or tool. And let's make sure we think about how we use it. Let me just say one thing, which is, I think we needed another kind of counterculture, which I'm hoping is happing in a number of areas, which is societally saying, You know, we have a slow food movement. Maybe we just need a slow down, a little bit movement. So if you look at mindfulness, if you look at kids who are starting to say, You know what? I want to talk to someone in person, I don't. So we we need some of that counter movement where I'm hoping the pedestal starts to come back. In terms of people looking for real connectivity and not just numbers of connections, >> it's interesting, You know, everything has a symmetrical, responsible thing about it. For every fake news payload and network effect is potentially an opposite reaction of quality network effect. It's interesting, and I don't know where it is, but I think that's got it could be filled, certainly on the economic side, by new entrepreneurial thinking, like one observation I'm making is you know this. Remember, they'll bad boys of tech and he's smiling. Now It's bad gals, too, which is growing still lower numbers. So I think there's gonna be a shift to the good, the good folks right moment. But she's a she's a good entrepreneur. She's not just out there to make a quick buck or hey, mission driven za signal we're seeing. So you start to see a little bit more of a swing to Whoa, hey, let's recognize that it's not about, you know, could Buck or >> so, yes, but between you and I, it's teeny compared to the other forces. So that's what those of us who believe that needs to happen need to continue to >> one of those forces money making. >> I think it's a combination of, Ah, money and how much money, Dr. Celebrity culture, um, the forces, the power that's in place is so strong that it's hard to break through, um, short term thinking, not even being trained. So like so many things in our culture, where you have entrenched power and then you see uprising and you get hope and that's where you need the hope. But, um, we've seen it so often in so many movements, from race to gender, where you think, Oh, that's solved, it's not solved and then you come back in and come back at it. So I just I would argue that there is little bits of it, but it needs fuel. It needs continuity. It it. And the reason I think we need some government regulation is it needs help because it's not gonna >> happen. You should question, you know, some successes that I point out Amazon Web services, Google even having a long game kind of narrative they're always kind of were misunderstood at first. Remember, Google was loud by search is not doing too well. Then the rest is history. Amazon was laughed. Amazon Web services was laughed at. So people who have the long game seemed to be winning in these transitions. And that's kind of what you're getting at. You think long term, the long game. If you think in terms of the long term vision, you then going look at consequences differently. How many people do you run in? The valleys actually think like that. Okay, >> so we're talking about two different things. One is long term thinking, and I do think that apple, Google, Amazon have taken long term thinking's. So there are a good example. But if you look at them, if we look at the big companies in terms of the way they approached the market and competition and their potential negative impacts on overall society, they're part of the power. They're not doing anything to change the systems, to not >> have good and continue to benefit. The rich get richer. >> So there this This is why it's complicated. There are not good guys and bad guys there are. These people are doing this and that. So do I think overall dough? I see more long term thinking. Um, not really. I think that the incentives in the investment community, the incentives in the stock market. The incentives culturally are still very much around shorter term thinking. Not that there aren't any, but >> yeah, I would agree. I mean, it tends to be, you know, Hey, we're crushing it. We're winning, you know? Look at us. Growth hack. I mean, just the languages. Semantics. You look at that. I think it's changed. I think Facebook is, I think, the poster child of short term thinking growth hacks move fast, break stuff and look where they are, you know, they can't actually sustaining and brand outside of Facebook, they have to buy Instagram and these other companies to actually get the kind of growth. But certainly Facebook is dominate on the financial performance, but they're kind of sitting in their situation. I think you know the bro Grammer movement, I think is kind of moving through the white common ear culture of Okay, let's get some entrepreneurship going. Great. Rod. I think that's stabilising. I think we're seeing with cloud really science and thinking for good. That's a positive sign. >> Well, I'm I'm glad to hear that from you, you know, and all >> you're probably going with. >> No, no, no, I'll take that and take that into feeding my hope because I hope, >> well, the movement is classic. Look, we're not gonna tolerate this anymore. I think transparency in my final question to you before you get to some of the more entrepreneur Question says, If you look at the role of community on data, science and connectedness, one of the things about being connected is you got potential potential for collective intelligence. So if you look at data, as I said, networks, what if there was a way to kind of hone that network to get to the truth fast? Esther, something we've been working on here, and I think that's something that, you know changes media. It changes the game. But collective intelligent, the role of the community now becomes a stakeholder and potentially laying out. The rule of the of the person your thoughts on >> so I community is a word that is has takes on a lot of meetings, and the problem is when you mean it one way and use it the other way, the same as data driven. So I think there's at one level which is community and conductivity that has to do with collecting input from lots of sources. And when you talk about investigative journalism or they're in environmental situations or all sorts of areas where the ability to collect information from lots of sources that air interested and analyze that information that is one level of community and connectivity and networking because of people you know which is great, there's another type. When people talk about community, they mean a sense of community in terms of what humans need and what that connectivity is. And most online networks don't give you that level. The online needs to be augmented by, Ah, inter personal understanding. And one of the problems. I think with today's technology is we're fitting humans into bits that technology Khun Support, as opposed to recognizing what are our human needs that we want to hold on to and saying There are some things that are not going to fit into somebody's data set. So in that first type of community than absolutely, I think there's lots of benefits of the cloud and wisdom of the crowd. But if you're talking about humans connecting in people. You don't have the same type of, uh, that that really community online tools can help. But we should never confuse what happens in our online world >> with your final question for, you know, we got We're pushing the time here. Thank you for spending time. First of all, it's great conversation. You've seen the movie with venture capital from the beginning. You know, all the original players seeing what is now just where's that come from? Where are we? What's the state of VC? Then? He hope to the future, they all adding value. How do you see that evolving and where are we with? >> You know, I would. I think venture capital has gone through a lot of different phases. And like so many things, especially those of us who want computers, we liketo lump them all together. They're not altogether. There are some small, Yes, like they field. And the I do think, though, that something shifted in the lead up to the dot com. Ah, and later the burst. And what shifted is venture capitalists. Before that time were company builders. They were the financiers, but they saw themselves with the entrepreneur building companies because of the expansion leading up to two thousand, and the funds grew and the people coming into the field were, they became more bankers and they took more financial supposed to balancing financing and entrepreneurship. It felt like it moved. Maurin toe. This is a private equity play, Um, and I think the dynamic with entrepreneurs and the methodology overall shifted, and I don't know that that's changed Now again, not across the board. I think there are some, uh, those firms that have identified our partners within firms who still very much want Teo filled companies and partner with entrepreneurs. But I think the dynamic shifted, and if you view them as that's what they are, is private equity investors. And don't expect something else. If people need money, that's a good pick. How do you guys see in from Attica? Evolving. Going forward, Mostly great messaging. But they still got customers out there that have sold stuff. They want to bring in cloud native new data. What's what's the prospects were in from Attica. >>Foreign Formica, Saudi lawyer. We have this nuanced article data advantage and basically would consider the inflection point between what we call in just 3.0, industry for point. And it's basically now we want to get value out of the data and our data advantage strategy Focus on three pillars. They have engineering wilderness and enable men for as Informatica Isa great component and a great supporter in each of these areas. Right, So, through these study we offer video service is we offer data governance. Studio chief did offer sheet state all of it. Yeah, on. And we partner with Informatica to profile the data to understand what will be the points in which we can find value over the data on off course with the new enterprise catalog to tool to do better governance for our clients. >>I want to get under the hood. I see the catalog is getting a lot of great reviews. Some people think that this is the next big wave in data management, similar to what we've seen in other ways like well, what? Relational databases and every way that comes on cap this catalogue New kind of catalogs emerging. What's your view on this? Is it away? Visit like recycled catalog, is it? >>So get a cataloguing and data. Curation has bean going on for decades, right? But it's never gained traction on, and it's never given Klein's the value because it was so manual takes tons of effort to get it right, right. So what inform Attica is done, which is absolute breakthrough? This embed a i into their enterprise data can log into which kind of accelerates the whole data. Cataloging on basically gives them gives climbs. The value in terms of cutting down on there are packed in terms of how many people, how many data students you need to put together >>So they modernize that. Basically, they exactly all the manual stuff put automation around and put some software to find around at machine learning. Is that kind of the secret to their success? >>Absolutely. And Down Delight has been partnering with Informatica for quite a while. In fact, we are one of the few companies that have a seat on the product advice report s o what we see from the marketplace we cannot feed into in from Attica to say, Hey, here's what you need to build into your products, right? So we be doing that with their MDM solution. For example, we have what we have. Articles indium, elevate. So we build machine learning into their MP and platform and offer. That's a solution similarly, and for America has built the clear platform into their E. D. C s. Oh, that's absolutely driving Valley for clients. And we have a lot of clients that are already leveraging >>a lot of risk and platforms tools, right? I see a lot of data stuff out there that's like like a feature, not a platform, that these guys got a platform, right? So But now the world's changing the cloud. How do you guys take that data advantage program or go to a CDO and saying, Look, you gotta think differently around the data, protect you explain your view on that. >>For us, data is now the center of everything, right? So any business who want to remain competitive in the future needs to get into entire end twin management of the data, getting the value of off data and also understanding what is the data coming from and what is the day they're going to write off course is studded with all the regulations. And now GDP are coming on Friday. It is a big, you know, pusher for companies to realize that over. If >>you have a big party on Friday, a big party or is this what you Katie was a big part. I mean, we do have a lot of clients who need to be compliant on GDP are on informatica is one of the tools that have already pre established the policies, so you can quickly determine where is the data that GPR is gonna be monitoring and looking for compliance on So rather than doing it from a scratch, right? So it takes a lot of it >>for Let's build on this a little bit. So when we talk about different as John was saying, different generations of data management technology, we're coming out of a generation was focused on extract, transform and load where every single application or every single new analytics application wasn't you identify the source is uniquely you build extractions unique. You'd build transformations, you build load scripts. Uniquely all that stuff was done uniquely. Now what we're saying is catalog allows us to think to move into a re use world. We've been reusing code fragments and gets and all these other things for years. In many respects, what we're talking about is the ability to bring a reuse orientation inside the enterprise to data. Have I got that right? You got it >>right. Two minutes. But the most important parties how to get value out of that, right? Because they did >>manage to get value out of using >>it more exactly And understanding, You know, how can improve your operations or you know, the bottom line, or reduce the risk that you have in your data, which is basically CPR is about, >>and one other Salin point is on very scene for America bringing values their completeness of mission. Right. So when you talk about gdp are you need different aspects, right? You need your data integration. Whether it be through cloud around. Promise you need get a governor on top of what you're cataloging, right? You need security data security. Right? So it all comes together in the hole in dramatic solutions. And I think that's very see value is supposed to like pocket pockets >>of guys. I gotta ask you a question. We've seen many ways. I think it's a big way this whole date away. But you guys, you have a term called industry four point. Oh, is what is industry but the Deloitte term. But what is that? What is industry four point? Oh, me. Can you define that? >>You wanna take that door? >>Yeah, sure. So we've seen, you know, revolutions in terms off technology and data on. We've seen people going from kind of the industrial revolution to the dark. Amira, What? Three terms in the street? Four point off where data is annoying, right? So data is an acid that needs to be completely leverage. Not just you look a reactively and retrospectively like How did we do? Right? And not even just for predictive analytics. We've seen that for a few years now. It's also about using data to drive. This is value, right? So are there new ways to monetize data? Are there new ways to leverage data and grow your business? Right? So that's what Industry four. No, no is about. >>That's awesome. Well, we got a lot of things going on here. Thanks for coming on. The Cube had a couple of questions. We go out in the open final question, eyes around the CDO. Who should the chief date officer report to the C I O board? What >>do you >>guys seeing? Because the CDO now picking a strategic role if Davis the new oil. That data is the fourth wave of innovation that we've seen over centuries. What does that mean? For the chief Data Officer? More power? Why'd you report to the C i o? Why is the CEO reported the Chief Data officer? What's your take? >>Traditionally our clients in the past, where the mandate for the studios were more in the data governess, right? As of today, it is going more into enablement the data, right? So more than Analytics case. Still, service is so well seen clients going from the studio moving from under the CEO in tow, the CEO and into the CMO in some cases, more about marketing. However, at the lawyer, our proposition is that companies should do a big shift and funded the new data function as a totally new vertical next to H. R next to finance right, which have his own funding and the CDO being the leader of that function, reporting directly to the CEO or >>enablement side CEO handling much of three things engineering, governance and enablement correct. So the CEO will handle Engineering Dept. Which not just its engineering, full stack developers, possibly our cloud native developers. Governance could come into policy, normal stuff. We've seen enablement more tooling, democratization of things. >>Yeah, yeah, >>yeah. I mean, what we've been seeing right in the real world, Liss, you have, for example, finance transformation that CIA full heads, right? So there's a lot of traction at that point to kind of bring the company together. But then that soon fizzles out. Sometimes you have, ah, the CMO bringing on and marketing campaign and, you know, analytics initiative, right? There's a lot of traction. Then it fizzes out. So you need somebody at the chief data officer of the C suite level to maintain that traction that moment, Um, in order freed value. >>But it seems the key issue is someone who is focused on data as an asset generating competitive returns on data as an asset because and the reason why it could be the CEO, it could be somebody else. Historically, an i t. The asset was the hardware on the argument here is that the asset is no longer the hardware now the data data. So whoever whatever you call it, someone and a group who's focused on generating returns out of data, >>Yes. But it has to have that executive level and that new talent mortal that we're proposing right where everybody knows a little bit of data in a sense. >>And the other thing is that I mean, think about this role that's dedicated to creating value of data, right? So you can understand you know how you create value in one function. Take it to the other function and tell them Hey, here's have helped finance right, get more value and then use the same thing marketing our sales. So it's also the cross pollination of ideas across different functions in an organization. S O n roll like that is helpful in terms of >>just to say, the data could very well become the next shared service's organization. That's because you don't want your salespeople to be great with data and your marketing people to be lousy with data. >>Correct. You're totally right on that. That's what we're proposing, right?
